Confirmed: Queen’s iPod includes Obama’s speeches

posted at 7:37 pm on April 1, 2009 by Allahpundit

Hey, you never know when Hopenchange fee-vah might strike. She could be sitting there, listening to show tunes, and suddenly think, “You know what I’m in the mood for? Obama’s 2004 convention speech.” Only a quick menu-scroll away.

And to think, you guys thought this gift wasn’t special.

Uploaded onto the iPod:

* Photos from the Queen’s 2007 White House State Visit
* Photos from the Queen’s 2007 Jamestown, Va., Visit
* Photos from the Queen’s 2007 Richmond, Va., Visit
* Video from the Queen’s 1957 Jamestown Visit
* Video from the Queen’s 2007 Jamestown Visit
* Video from the Queen’s 2007 Richmond Visit
* Photos from President Obama’s Inauguration
* Audio of then-state senator Obama’s speech at the 2004 Democratic National Convention, and
* Audio of President Obama 2009 Inauguration Address

Here’s the songlist. Believe it or not, Jake Tapper’s eating crap from the left for blogging this story even though, had Bush pulled something like this, (a) it would be in constant rotation on MSNBC and likely have been the top story on “Countdown,” and (b) the same nutroots morons who are hassling JT would have wet themselves with glee over the hay they could make from it. Exit question: How’d Team Barry forget to pre-load that ass-covering speech on race he gave last year — which, I believe, was the last time he dared to utter a syllable on the subject? Isn’t that supposed to be the greatest work of American literature since “Huckleberry Finn” or something? Way to cheap out on the Queen!

Instead of granting GM’s request for up to a further $16 billion in loans, the administration pledged only to fund GM’s operations for the next 60 days while it develops a more sweeping restructuring plan under new leadership.

TheBigOldDog on April 1, 2009 at 9:03 PM

Example of how the grownups handled this sort of thing:

From the comments at Ace of Spades:

Here are some examples of what President and First Lady George and Laura Bush gave the queen during her ’07 visit.

the principals conducted a leader to leader gift exchange in the Red Room of the White House immediately after the arrival ceremony. President and Mrs. Bush gave Her Majesty a bronze statuette “High Desert Princess” with a personal inscription on the bottom of the base. It is a replica of the original life size statue that is located in front of the National Cowgirl Museum and Hall of Fame in Ft. Worth, Texas.

President and Mrs. Bush gave The Prince Philip an exclusive sterling silver eagle box by Tiffany & Co. with personal inscription on the inside lid.

President and Mrs. Bush gave Their Majesties a leather presentation box filled with a collection of documents from the National Archives. One of the items was a copy of an original letter from President Roosevelt to her father, King George, written in 1938. There were also photos from previous royal visits and a DVD of the footage from the Queen’s visit to the United States when she was Princess Elizabeth in 1951.

Their Majesties gave President Bush a sterling silver oversized plate by William & Son with gold seals including: the Presidential seal, the Royal seal and a center seal with the star of Texas surrounded by roses. There was a personal inscription on the back of the plate. They gave Mrs. Bush a gold and crystal clock with the Royal seal by William & Son.

The Office of the Chief of Protocol assists the President and First Lady in the selection and presentation of gifts to foreign leaders.

Because so far, it looks like either he doesn’t know or he doesn’t listen to them.

Let’s take a walk down memory lane, shall we?

http://hotair.com/archives/2009/03/05/obama-the-cheapskate-25-dvds-for-gordon-brown/

Mr Brown’s gifts included an ornamental desk pen holder made from the oak timbers of Victorian anti-slaver HMS Gannet, once named HMS President.

Mr Obama was so delighted he has already put it in pride of place in the Oval Office on the Resolute desk which was carved from timbers of Gannet’s sister ship, HMS Resolute.

Another treasure given to the U.S. President was the framed commission for HMS Resolute, a vessel that came to symbolise Anglo-US peace when it was saved from ice packs by Americans and given to Queen Victoria.

Finally, Mr Brown gave a first edition set of the seven-volume classic biography of Churchill by Sir Martin Gilbert.

What did Obama give Brown in return?

25 DVD’s that didn’t even play in the UK.

Once again: it is a TIME-HONORED TRADITION for heads of state to exchange UNIQUE GIFTS.

This is the SECOND TIME Obama seems to go out of his way to completely ignore this tradition.

Not to detract from the Bush’s legacy, but they probably took the advice for their gifts from some sort of protocol specialist who lives and breaths this sort of thing, as they should. Obama has obviously either fired or ignored these people, believing he can wing it just fine because Bush was a complete idiot, right?

I seriously doubt that Obama even realizes what a dumbass he looks like because who among his advisors (knowing, as they should, how thin-skinned and vindictive he is) would be willing to point out his lack of class and inept social skills? Obama must have caught some kind of flack over the Brown DVD gaffe, because atleast a little thought went into the gifts besides the I-pod, but it still looks like he is a fumbling amature.

The Office of the Chief of Protocol is in the Department of State.

It appears Obama has yet to appoint someone. I think the Bush Chief of Protocol’s term finished on January 20th.

Under the direction of the Acting Chief of Protocol Gladys Boluda the office is responsible for activities including the planning, hosting, and officiating of ceremonial events for visiting chiefs of state and heads of government, as well as coordinating logistics for the visits; managing Blair House, the President’s guesthouse; and overseeing all protocol matters for Presidential or Vice Presidential travel abroad, working alongside the White House.

FANTASTIC. Thanks for your research. This makes the ipod look even more like an afterthought. Or thoughtless. Or just plain insulting.

Obama and first lady Michelle Obama presented the queen with a rare coffee table book of songs by composers Richard Rodgers and Lorenz Hart that Rodgers had signed in May 1952.

So much for that theory about the book coming out in 1958.

I was trying to agree with you and add my own little observation that even if Laura offered advice, I doubt it would be listened to. And yes I agree that they would not go running to the press and tell everyone how clueless Obama is.

Because we know reporters never get minor details wrong right weasel? Don’t let the fat that that a signed first edition has been found with a publishing date of 1958, or that every bit of research done thus far point to the date as really being 1958. No, better to continue to be a weasel and hang your hate on a third party report.

Oh really?

I will donate $1000 to SarahPAC if you can go on Amazon right now and show me where I can order a 1951 signed, first edition copy of the Rodgers and Hammerstein song book. I’m dead serious.

Obama or someone on his staff with a little common sense could have re-hired Bush’s chief of protocol I imagine…they didn’t mind keeping a few other Bush people around. That just strengthens my main point though, even if Obama has a protocol guy (which it seems he doesn’t) He is just trying to improvise it on the world stage.

So Jake Tapper, who first broke the story, is now making things up? Interesting.

I’d love to know how Rodgers signed a book in 1952 that you collective heads of knuckle think was published in 1958.
