Video: Rush on Obama’s redistributionism
posted at 2:55 pm on March 31, 2009 by Ed Morrissey
Consider this Red Meat Central, courtesy of Townhall. Rush Limbaugh continues hitting Barack Obama on overreach and then explains what he believes Obama’s motivations to be:
It’s not what Obama knows. It’s what you think he knows. It’s what he makes you think he knows. He doesn’t know anything about the automobile business. He doesn’t know how to change a tire. … He really believes it his job to return the nation’s wealth to its rightful–quote unquote, rightful owners.
I especially liked Rush’s comment about the American auto industry, coming on the heels of new GM CEO Fritz Henderson’s comments about bankruptcy being the only way out of their competitive disadvantages. They sell plenty of cars, as many as Toyota does world-wide, but they incur massive losses from their pension and benefits obligations, while Toyota makes a profit from its better business model.
Motivations are harder to pin down, but the sudden move towards corporatism and government control of the marketplace seems very ominous indeed. With attacks on compensation and the sometimes forced nature of TARP allocations, it looks as though Obama envisions a massive reordering of what had been a free market to a fair market … with his ideas of fairness trumping all.
Rush asks a fair question: why are we letting people who know nothing about the auto industry act as czars, imposing their policy solutions on a private entity? It seems curious that more people aren’t asking that question.

Where are the rupublicans?
As usual they are hiding under the bed, crying in the corners, sucking their thumbs, and jumping on the band wagon after wringing out their damp drawers.
They are the biggest bunch of cowards who think they are leaders, by the fact that they hold elected office.

I think Obama has a strategy to push sooooo much crap at once that he ensure that at least half of it gets implemented. People in opposition will appear to be shooting from the hip and without a cohesive plan since there are too many issues to attack.

Obama should just design a new car himself. Seems to me that another head of state did that decades ago, so Obama, the greatest leader ever, should be able to also.
It will have 2 steering wheels, one to go one way and another to quickly go another way. It will have a GPS system that will tell the driver exactly where he is no matter which of the 57 states he is in. It will get about 1 mpg but the drivers manual will say that it will start getting 100mpg if you drive it for at least 4 years. It will have a hood ornament that looks like Michelle’s lower jaw. In the glove compartment will be a mini-me Rahm Emanuel who will jump out and fix a traffic ticket if the driver should get one. If it is used as a company car the no extra cost Geithner on board computer program option will compute the mileage for tax purposes and do so very much to the owner’s advantage and that could pay for the car right there!
Ladies and Gentlemen, I give you the HopeNChange mobile. Get your advance orders in and beat the crowd. Discounts for volume purchases. No down payment necessary just as long as your kids or grandkids have a credit card or are expected to get one someday. If you or your kids or your grandkids can not pay, you will all be sold to the Chinese as coolies.

Why, yes MB4! Mr. Hitler and Mr. Porsche did design a “people’s car”! I’m sure that Mr. Obama’s car will be similar to the design of the new car that India rolled out. Except this one will be electric and not be able to drive more than 20 miles at a time.

New General Motors CEO Fritz Henderson won’t cut his salary to $1
by The Associated Press
Tuesday March 31, 2009, 2:41 PM
General Motors’ new chief executive says he will not cut his salary to $1 a year like his predecessor Rick Wagoner.
Fritz Henderson said at a news conference Tuesday that his pay will remain unchanged now that he is head of the troubled automaker. His base salary as chief operating officer was cut 30 percent to about $1.3 million this year when GM accepted government loans.
Wagoner agreed to accept a salary of $1 as part the automaker’s $13.4 billion government loan package. He stepped down as CEO on Monday as a condition for additional government assistance.
On Monday, the Obama administration gave GM a 60-day deadline to get concessions from its union and creditors before granting the automaker more aid.
I guess Fritz doesn’t take Bwarnwey Fwank’s threat seriously.

You ask why more Americans aren’t objecting, Ed? The reason is the pitiful and nearly nonexistant state of economics education in our public schools.
The foundations of capitalism are alien concepts to many Americans. If you showed a basic supply/demand chart to 100 high schoolers and asked them to explain it (or to even just identify it), I’ll bet 99 would give you a blank look. Don’t get me started on their ignorance of the impact on economic activity that results from raising taxes.
We’re raising a generation of socialists. Minimum wage? Raise it. The rich? Punish them. Charity? Let the government handle it. Corporations? Evil.
I honestly doubt the trend will change direction until we all experience severe pain & hardship. America’s not going to wise up until the statists and their ideas are fully discredited by an economic catastrophe even greater than the one we’re in now.
Meh. Happy Tuesday.

People ARE asking that question. They’re warning about the march toward socialism. They’re warning about the massive deficit spending. They’re warning about rewarding bad behavior with all these bailouts. They’re warning about all the pork. They’re warning about the unconstitutional nature of all these actions.
There’s one small problem. Aside from Fox News, talk radio, and the internet, NO ONE IS COVERING IT!!! Have you seen a single tea party story on any of the major networks or cable channels(Fox notwithstanding)? When the pundits and talking heads discuss Obama’s plans, do they ever get into the details regarding whether or not they’ll work or if we can afford them? Hell no! Everything is within a political prism. Obama and the Dems, good. GOP aka Party of “No”, bad.
I’m pretty much resigned to the media remaining silent and much of the electorate remaining ignorant for about 2 years. Then when things get really ugly, all of a sudden eveyone will be clamoring for an explanation and wondering why no one saw any of this coming.

Afterall, these 535 ‘know it alls’ are sooooo enlightened and smarty smart that they can do anything! Its incredible when you think about it. Anybody remember the bank run scene on George Bailey’s wedding day in It’s a Wonderful Life? At one point, Potter calls George at the savings and loan, and he informs George that he’s just taken control of the local bank through a bailout. At that instant, the camera turns to an obsequious, feckless man (presumably the president of the bank) who is wiping his brow with a great sense of relief. Well, that POS banker is the face of everyone of the CEOs who have gone hat-in-hand to DC for a bailout.
As far as I’m concerned, Obama is Henry Potter, though he doesn’t have Potter’s financial acumen and he doesn’t have Potter’s financial resources given that Obama’s resources happen to be ours.
My question is where are the damn George Baileys of this country? Whether in banking, manufacturing, Congress, or whatever the sector? Though only a movie, Bailey held on when he was down to his last two dollars, and he ultimately succeeded. And when he later got torpedoed by Potter’s theft, George still rebounded–not through a government bailout, but through help from family and friends who were all too willing to help a man who’d created so much goodwill within his community.
Our leaders, whether in the public or private sector, make me puke. You give me three people like George Bailey, Harry Bailey, and Sam (Hee-Haw) Wainwright to lead this country, and I’ll bet any amount of money that we’re turned around in two years–all without Obama bailout mania.

Reparations and Oligarchy. That’s what it’s about.
Reparations, because as Rush says, the idiot is pissed. He’s pissed because the Rev Wright is pissed, and Frank was pissed, and Bill Ayers is pissed…..so good little follower that Obamy is, he’s pissed too.
He doesn’t really care that much about the new oligarchy, that made him what he is, but he still needs them unless he can somehow wrest control away from them (He can’t. He’s too stupid). Whay THEY want is to make sure that you slippery capitalist creatures be forever ruined, so that YOU can’t ever risk supplanting them again.

So what we’re saying here is the US auto industry will soon become a gubmint-subsidized entity, like the railroads, that lose millions in perpetuity, and WE get to pay for it. They’ll fill it with the usual mindless hacks who couldn’t make it in private industry, and a once glorious industry will be up in smoke.
This major coup of course has been years in the making, thanks in large measure to the UAW.

D2Boston on March 31, 2009 at 4:15 PM
Just a guess, but I’d say the answer is that these private entities are taking public money.
Rule of thumb: If you don’t want people telling you what to do, don’t lay up on their tit. Because everybody — from parents and their teenagers to governments and their carmakers — feels entitled to make the rules if they’re paying the bills. Maybe their rules are eat up with the dumb ass, but that’s not the point.

Seven Percent Solution on March 31, 2009 at 3:13 PM
I don’t buy it. They may attempt a coup on the large publicly-owned companies, but even that would cause a huge outflux of experienced personnel, since oil people at all levels hate that little turd. And who will replace them -the igneous petrologists at the USGS (aka “Useless GS”)? – I think not.. The world’s oil business loves American geologists, petroleum engineers and geophysicists. They’ll snap us up in a minute. Texas English is the lingua franca of the international oil business.
All they will get for any attempt to take over independent oil producers will be destroyed wells.
Takes about 5 minutes per well…. and they will never be able to fix them.. so I don’t think that there is much of a chance to do the most radical sort of seizures, but, instead, a slow ratcheting up of taxes, environmental laws and EPA methane and CO2 greenhouse gas crap may cause chaos.
We’ll be ready, in any case..
TexasJew on March 31, 2009 at 4:19 PM
People constantly ask Rush to run for office. He always firmly turns down that proposition.
Rush’s best environment is in that radio studio. By far. Leave him where he is. Keep him talking about championship American values such as the spirit of enterprise; common-sense public policy and fiscal responsibility in government; and respecting individual liberty and accomplishment — great ideas that can drive America once more when at last Americans move to clip the wings of leftist social engineering, leftist rule-by-decree, and redistributionism as public policy.
Encourage more politicians of all persuasions to heed him on these great American values and GET IT, at last…
Edouard on March 31, 2009 at 4:24 PM
As 2010 approaches…. we need to go to Barney Frank’s district, Nevada, Nancy Pelosi’s district, etc. and start a door to door campaign with clear concise “facts” about what these people are doing to the country. Is that what those voters really want? I’ll bet they don’t even pay attention and we need to start informing them. It’s time for a movement against their movement. BTW – their movement is an equivalent to a bowel movement and we’re all getting it all over US.
suzyk on March 31, 2009 at 4:31 PM
I disagree. He needs to run for President in 2012 and here is why.
Barack Obama and the Democrats are through their gross incompetence, their thorough corruption or because of their hatred of this country are destroying the United States of America.
This isn’t the Clinton years. This isn’t even the Carter years.
We need a leader who will call this vile piece of garbage who is polluting the White House, exactly what he is.

It’s even worse than that. Who do you suppose you’ll be dealing with when you take out a loan for that new General Motors 2010 “Amtrak” with the top-shelf “Obama” options package, including arugula-colored leather interior and in-dash TelePrompTer? And who will you be speaking with when you report a serious manufacturing defect, or call to complain about being sold a lemon?
Who’s going to be selling insurance on these state-produced jalopies? What’s going to happen when the people who buy crappy government-built autos start complaining that the insurance premiums on them are too high? You don’t suppose the Administration might not invite some of those insurance people over to the White House for a little chin wag, do you? Maybe Obama will insist they accept some federal subsidies for the policies they’re writing on the American versions of the Zil and Yugo, and some federal control along with it… and maybe Obama will start deciding that some of those insurance company CEOs need to go, to be replaced by people with better Party credentials… er, better commitment to diversity and fairness in auto insurance.
What sort of conversations do you think are occurring behind closed doors, in the boardrooms of the people that supply parts to General Motors? They just became government sub-contractors. I wonder if they’re pleased with that arrangement. Their next round of meetings with the purchasing agents from GM should be interesting.
Socialism is a virus. Fascism is ebola.

Spot on! They are done … stick a fork in ‘em. New leadership for conservatives will come from none of the Republican’s in Washington, DC – they are irrelevant and spineless. The new leadership of Conservatism will come from the grassroots – look to the tea parties for them … and to the AK, LA, SC, TX, MS, AL Governor’s mansions. However – the Governors need to start ENGAGING – or they are going to become irrlevant also. I’m a big fan of Sarah Palin – but she needs to make a move and grab the ranks for a charge soon.
Personally – what the Republican Party needs is a Triumvirate of sorts. We need two, three, or four popular leaders to band together – put their differences and egos aside – and go directly to the people. They should defend each other to the hilt and charge Washington. No bipartanship – not even the “hint” of it. The message should be – we’ve lost our country and we need to get it back before it’s too late.

I agree Rush did fail. Been listening since 89 and “The American People” he always claims to speak for have lurched ever more to the left since he has been on the air. The right let your side totally overtake all areas of pop culture, government, public education and academia thus indoctrinating an entire generation unopposed.
He stuck with his old medium of radio and let the left outsmart him with the use of PR via the web and 529 groups. You guys thinking he will run for office are delusional. He doesn’t care that much for the country really, just extending his contract. I don’t begrudge him his salary, but don’t try to tell me he has made any meaningful sacrifice for the movement.

Not sure what you’ve been listening to for 2 decades; you can’t fake passion for the country for 2 straight decades. He’s got passion for it, quite obviously.
Everyone here wants to re-make Rush in their image, it seems. Look, he’s a radio talker. Radio’s his medium. Period. He’s an old dog at this game and he’s doing fine with it. He continues to reach a mind-boggling number of people day after day.
His medium is NOT the legislative halls, bandying line-items with nitwit politicians.
The passion he expresses for America is the same passion that millions upon millions of Americans, who live honestly, work hard, pay taxes, and drive their cars with the radio on, also continue to feel.
His best place — absolutely — is to be where he’s talking to this big audience, so that millions will listen, and think, and act accordingly.

Do we see any Republican politicians standing up against the greatest assault on our Democracy ever witnessed? No we don’t.
Do we see any public figure standing up to this assault? Yes we do. Rush Limbaugh has been attacked by the potus, the media, and every other Liberal controlled institution on this planet for the past several months. Did Rush back down to the relentless pressure? No, not one bit.
Limbaugh, Hannity, Beck, Ingraham, Levin, all under attack, all standing up tall, proud to be Conservative Americans fighting the righteous battle against a the machine. But yet we have a so called Conservative here preaching the Liberal message, Limbaugh is only out for himself.
Yea buddy, you really fooled us. Kinda like monkei swearing to me one day that he is a Reagan Conservative. Jeez, you people are sicko’s.

The average American has NO IDEA where this goes…but they are about to find out in a BIG PAINFUL way
15% unemployment and 15% inflation and they will start to see the problem but not until then unfortunately

Obama is a creation of a huge propaganda machine. The media is an intricate part of this machine, and is mostly responsible for Obama’s image. I don’t agree that Obama has done this quite well. On the contrary, the media has done this quite well. Obama himself has already lost the support of European leaders. One leader told Obama today that he is taking America to hell. Trust in Obama is disappearing daily. Obama’s a creation, a vehicle designed to take Liberalism to it’s intended goal. You stupid shit brainless Liberal citizens are the tools used to help the machine reach it’s intended goal. Mindless fools just begging for something to make your lives have meaning. Liberalism preys on your kind.
We will not sit by and allow this assault to continue. We will not sit by and allow our civilian leaders to be destroyed. We will try our best to halt this assault peacefully. We will organize beyond what was expected. I can only hope a peaceful ending comes of this.

While listening to Rush this afternoon on my way to work, he sounded almost despondent for a few moments when the subject came to today’s polls–at first he was ready to dismiss the WAPO poll, but then he pointed out that Rasmussen has shown Bambi picking up in the past few days as well and he made a comment that maybe a majority of Americans are now willing to accept a “soft tyranny.” I don’t think he was showboating and grandstanding here–I think he was genuinely worried about the prospect.
After getting off work, I couldn’t get that thought out of my mind. Have we reached the point where all too many of us are willing to accept the rule of Papa ‘Bama now? Sad to say, there probably are many–some of whom are trolls here–who would be content to become Papa ‘Bama’s serfs. A lot of hard work and anguish comes with freedom’s many delights. The most important element of freedom is the ability to choose and making choices is often hard. In a free society, you choose the path you take–and you have to live with the consequences of those choices: Do I major in Engineering or Art? Do I put in those extra hours at work or tell the boss that I have to be with my family? Do I scrimp and cut back on expenses to send my children to private school instead of public? Do I relocate cross-country for the higher salary that will help put my children through college even though it might cause problems at home? Those and a host of other choices both great and small you have to make in your lifetime. That wealthy banker living in his villa and driving the fancy sportscar might well have paid for all that with 80 to 90 hour work weeks, a strained marriage or even a divorce, strained relations with children, and possibly a heart attack.
It would be easy not to have to make those choices–to have Papa ‘Bama tell you what you need to do. You might even get a vicarious tingle of revenge when Papa ‘Bama’s minions strip that rich banker of everything he owns and redistributes the proceeds to you and others in the form of “redistribution of wealth”. You don’t have to worry about your job–Papa’s got it all sorted out for you; don’t have to worry about a roof over your head–Papa will make sure you have three hots and a cot. Kid’s will be able to go to school, you’ll have your rationed health care. And you’ll have your stipend to make sure everyone is treated fairly. All you have to do to have all this is to do what Papa ‘Bama tells you…don’t make waves…and vote the way you’re supposed to. No thinking required…no deciding…no need to take chances…no need to make choices.
As for me–No thank you. I’ll keep my freedom.

One other point…we’ll have an inkling as to how the American people think regarding wanting a “soft tyranny” soon. Watch the response to the Tea Party protests on April 15. If we get good crowds–then that’s a good sign. If not, then not so good.
The first real test will be the 2010 election with the 2012 election sealing the deal one way or the other. November, 2012, the American people will have made their decision: Liberty or Tyranny.

Right on Rush.
May God Bless and strengthen Rush Limbaugh.

This is why Rush is the leader of the True Republican Party, not those pantie waists who claim to be republicans in the house and senate. They apparently don’t know the Constitution and apparently don’t care if we become a socialist state.
Throw them all out and get Conservatives with some backbone in there to fight for our country!!!!

I think that too often, people don’t “get involved” or even care – unless they see that it affects them directly. If they’re not GM shareholders or bondholders or don’t work for an auto related industry – not paying a lot of attention.
When the government comes for their business and their management and their freedom, though – then they’ll snap to attention!
“First they came for the auto executives, and I didn’t care because I wasn’t an auto executive…” Or something like that.

Redistributive Change we can believe in, Clownies! I, for one, am so very proud to live in a country where our Presidential candidates are thoroughly vetted by a fair and impartial press, so as to avoid unpleasant surprises. And to think, that those racist Palinite rubes insisted on god-king Barack being a socialist…and who is this Green character they keep alluding to?

We had a good candid candidate a year ago. Problem is that he ran a completely inept campaign. When we get a candidate who isn’t afraid of being wrong every once in a while, who can clearly articulate – in plain language – what his or her principles are and why they’re held dear – then people will vote for that candidate. Regardless of which side of the aisle the candidate stands on.
In short, we need a candidate who hasn’t centered their entire being about the concept of grabbing ahold of the reins of power, who is willing to lay off using the whip on the rest of us, and is willing to go back where they belong when it’s all said and done.
So that leads me to ask – When are you throwing your hat in the ring?

We need someone to take coordinate and take charge of the protests.
We need someone to say “We’re mad as hell and we’re not going to take it anymore,” then explain exactly why we’re mad and what we want from whom.
The coordinator needs to say:
1. Everyone go to their state capitols on a certain date/time.
2. Make signs. Go to a certain website for ideas.
3. Someone needs to arrange for speakers and media relations.
That someone needs to sing from the rooftops (or from behind the Golden EIB microphone) that they are in charge of these protests.
I’m telling you, Rush is sounding more exasperated than I’ve ever heard him before.
Desperate times call for desperate measures! Folks, I know it’s incredible the mess we’re in. We are in a living nightmare and we have to FIGHT for what we believe in. We have to fight because our ancestors fought for this country (at least mine did). My grandparents would be so incredibly sad and outraged at the mess we’re in. I miss them so much, but at the same time I’m glad they’re not here to see this.
We have to quit talking and start doing.

Attacking the qualifications of the car czars is a trap. By doing so, you unquestioningly accept the premise that if the czar were qualified, his running of the industry would be justified. You can’t attack on both sides of this (against the czar’s qualifications and the concept of a czar) without basically surrendering on the concept issue by virtue of the qualification issue’s premise. And then, you end up in a quagmire of relativism on the qualification issue.
Attack the premise of fascist economics or you surrender by default.

I bet he could win and I’m sure every additional million he makes has less and less marginal utility. Screw the pay-cut, if his highest value is the country he should serve with pride.

Why, yes MB4! Mr. Hitler and Mr. Porsche did design a “people’s car”! I’m sure that Mr. Obama’s car will be similar to the design of the new car that India rolled out. Except this one will be electric and not be able to drive more than 20 miles at a time.
