Video: G20 protesters set to overthrow capitalism with goth make-up or something

posted at 5:00 pm on March 31, 2009 by Allahpundit

Not only will the revolution be televised, the soundtrack will be The Cure. Not sure how seriously to take this — there’s at least an element of tongue-in-cheek street theatrics to it, a la the dopey papier-mache puppets at anti-war rallies — but the kindly old professor seen here isn’t quite as kindly as the Guardian makes him look. From the boss’s most recent column:

Demonstrators are threatening to hang effigies. Protest organizer and university professor Chris Knight vowed worse: “We are going to be hanging a lot of people like Fred the Shred from lampposts on April Fool’s Day and I can only say let’s hope they are just effigies. To be honest, if he winds us up any more I’m afraid there will be real bankers hanging from lampposts and let’s hope that that doesn’t actually have to happen.”

Exit question: If, as he says, capitalism is the cause of anxiety, how come The One’s command-economy inclinations aren’t mellowing me out? Click the image to watch.

They are not protesting capitalism… They are protesting the banking cartels’ centralization of economic regulation and power to impose their will over everyone else..

These banksters want you to believe that these protesters hate capitalism…

and I care not who makes the laws.” Mayer Amschel Bauer (1744 -1812), Godfather of the Rothschild Banking Cartel of Europe

“capitalism exists to create anxiety…”

Gee, Socialism isn’t doing much good for the ol’ anxiety level is it?

Very apt. I wondered where all the drama kids who quoted The Crow had gone.

No. Maybe that’s what you think they should be protesting. But these people are against capitalism. Well… most of these people are just looking for an excuse to act like lawless fools and party. The organizers are anti-capitalists. You give them way too much credit.

Ampersand on March 31, 2009 at 5:15 PM

I’ve got a .30 cure for what ails those assholes.

GarandFan on March 31, 2009 at 5:16 PM

Maybe they’re angry at the excesses of capitalism

What’s wrong with Goth, Allah?
Don’t force me to paint your nails black.

But, if you want some kick ass Goth, go for Tower of Strength by Mission UK. Or Siouxsie and the Banshees, Cities In Dust:

We found you hiding we found you lying
Choking on the dirt and sand
Your former glories and all the stories
Dragged and washed with eager hands

But oh your city lies in dust, my friend

I understand what you are saying. The anti-capitalists always jump in whenever they can and ruin it for the real protesters. They distort the true message. Most of the signs people were holding in the video were about bankers…

The banksters love it when the anti-capitalist people get lumped together with the central bank protestors…

Because you’re doing it wrong. You’re just supposed to chant O-BA-MA and not actually think about what’s happening.

I’m confused. So the revolution WILL be televised?

Calling this goth is an insult to goths, AP. My hot, pale brunette girlfriend is pissed at you.

Awesome.

I loved the HSBC Bank commercial I had to watch before the video would play. Very poetic.

Man… When they declare at noon that “hence forth an bits of paper issued by the bank of England cease to be legal tender” that will really screw the man. The man is seriously screwed now…

Though the guy did claim laughter is the “answer.” And he did succeed in making himself and the movement seem silly so…

Though laughter didn’t seem to be his tool of choice when he threatened that guy by saying “it’s very bad to find yourself on the wrong side of the revolution.”

While Obama is attending that lovely party, here is what YOU CAN DO until you attend your local tea party on April 15 (taxdayteaparty.com)… YES WE CAN, YES WE CAN…

** CALL TO ACTION: STOP THE BAILOUTS AND SPENDING **

We MUST act today to contact elected officials in Washington. Please forward this to everyone who will help immediately.

http://www.conservativeoutpost.com/campaign/cta/stop_spending

Follow the instructions. Of course you can contact your congressmen for free but this works well and saves a lot of time if you want to reach more than one by fax (I sent 35 today) which is important to do RIGHT NOW due to how quickly Obama is pushing the spending. We must act JUST AS QUICKLY! Don’t forget thank those who hold strong and do not give in.

I thought that was Bill Clinton for a few seconds.

That is some scary stuff. Hey “Laughing” Professor, how did Communism work out, oh yeah it didn’t.

Lance Murdock on March 31, 2009 at 6:20 PM

Not only will the revolution be televised, the soundtrack will be The Cure.

Don’t worry, the little Emos will probably just sit around cutting themselves superficially with a razor blade.

Protest organizer and university professor Chris Knight vowed worse

He’s going to make a volcano science project and ruin his sister Marcia’s chances of getting into the cool girls’ clique at school!

Downside: The G20′s had to share a venue with the anime convention this year.

Upside: More money for Dr. Pepper and Cheez-Its!

unwashed minion on March 31, 2009 at 6:30 PM

What are the odds, one wonders, that “Professor” Chris Knight is living on his family’s money?

warbaby on March 31, 2009 at 6:35 PM

Hey, let’s not minimize “the Laughing Professor” as some witty but a little kooky academic. His half-assed Halloween parade as “political theater” could easily evolve into a riot.

Make no mistake: That guy is a radical and he’s got the collective ear and mind of motivated British twentysomethings that could radicalize with him and end up causing real damage.

Noticed that too. It’s always the same beat. Do these people take a class to learn how to do that or does it just come naturally?

Glenn Jericho on March 31, 2009 at 9:14 PM

let’s hope that that doesn’t actually have to happen

Hey, the man’s about hope… how can that be a bad thing?

Mark V. on March 31, 2009 at 10:16 PM

Maybe I’m missing something obvious, but what does The Cure (one of my favorite bands…) have to do with this?

Cylor on March 31, 2009 at 11:40 PM

Can we shoot them yet? Lemme know when we can, Ill be getting on with my life without a financial crisis.

Bladerunner1701 on April 1, 2009 at 3:26 AM

Blame your warped sense of humor on capitalism? Really. Your wife had nothing to do with that, eh?
