Quotes of the day

posted at 10:35 pm on March 30, 2009 by Allahpundit

“Even as astute a conservative thinker as Mark Steyn has been swept up in the tide that thinks Obama is a ‘transformative’ radical. But look again at his approach to the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. In both cases, as noted, he is carrying out the Bush policies – the same that he once joined his fellow Democrats in condemning. And that should be reassuring to anyone concerned about where he is heading as commander-in-chief.

In other words, while it’s reasonable to be unhappy with a Democratic administration and even concerned because the Democrats are now a socialist party in the European sense, we are not witnessing the coming of the anti-Christ. A good strategy for political conflicts is to understand your opponent first – not to underestimate him, but not to overestimate him either.”

***
“The answer is obvious. The right, for the most part, embraces basic Judeo-Christian ideals and would not promote nor defend the propaganda techniques that were perfected in godless communist and socialist regimes. The current political and media environment crafted by supposedly idealistic Mr. Obama resembles Hugo Chavez’s Venezuela more than John F. Kennedy’s America.

The Huffington Post, Daily Kos and other left-leaning sites benefit from the right’s belief that there are rules and decorum in political debate and civic engagement. Of course, every now and then, a curious right-winger will go in and engage in discussion at a left-wing site, but rarely under purely disingenuous and mass coordinated means. “

we are not witnessing the coming of the anti-Christ

when the beast raises his wounded head, he’ll be seen as the savior…people will be singing his name, and he will be hailed as a ‘transformative figure’

people will think he’s the best thing since sliced bread…

satan always comes as an angel of light…at least at first…

Many conservatives go on kook patrol to ingratiate themselves with the “elite intellectuals” by finding people they can agree with leftists to dislike.

ANALYSIS/OPINION:

A digital war has broken out, and the conservative movement is losing. Read the comment sections of right-leaning blogs, news sites and social forums, and the evidence is there in ugly abundance. Internet hooligans are spewing their talking points to thwart the dissent of the newly-out-of-power.

We must not let that go unanswered.

Even Obama is smart enough to figure out that another attack on the US makes him toast politically. He is just pretending to get along. He plagerized all of Bush’s speeches on the war so that he sounded like Bush. It is funny to watch. His domestic policy is not like any American President’s should be. The man is pure evil.

BetseyRoss on March 30, 2009 at 10:49 PM

In other words, while it’s reasonable to be unhappy with a Democratic administration and even concerned because the Democrats are now a socialist party in the European sense, we are not witnessing the coming of the anti-Christ.

No. We are witnessing the rebirth of Lenin, with a nasty race-based sense of revenge that must be taken on the US and the Western world. Dems hate America and everything America stands for. That is clear. The Precedent adds the nastiness and stupidity of seeking revenge to that.

As to The Precedent’s pursuit of the war, that is not as important to him as gaining control of domestic policy and putting us all under the boot of his idiot Bolsheviks. Once that is done he’ll move on to the wider issues. Right now, he is satisfied doing as little as he can without causing major problems that would derail his insane domestic policies, but he will move on when he has the chance.

Anyone who can’t see that The Precedent is a radical is brain dead. Anyone who couldn’t see it during the campaign is just stupid. Unfortunately, we have lots of stupid, brain-dead people in this country.

On the optimistic side, the idiot messiah will be derailed when our economy, and probably our monetary system, actually collapses (not a fake collapse, as people are want to talk about, but REAL collapse). After that happens, all bets are off.

Seven Percent Solution on March 30, 2009 at 10:52 PM

Horowitz has a point though. Don’t hate Barry so badly that you get stuck on stupid. You know, like the moonbats did back in 2004. I mean remember how the media just started making stuff up since they hated Bush so badly? It was Rathergate, it was Shinseki, whatever kooky thing they could weave out of whole cloth they did. They thought W was a joke and could be beaten easily and Captain Liberal was their guy to do it. However in the end it all blew up in their face and they lost. So the bottom line is keep your heads because we need to win in 2010 and then Beat Barry in 2012.

Awww…. Isn’t this sweet! Drudge has the headline up that obama will have a special website devoted to helping people with depression, stress, suicidal thoughts, sleeplessness and anxiety due to the financial crisis.

There’s only one cure for the financial crisis, and it ain’t obama or the little pricks in his administration.

Bishop on March 30, 2009 at 10:55 PM

Personally I think we should take Obambi VERY seriously, and anyone who does not is foolish. True we have Bush to blame for opening the door on executive power, but still, Obambi was given an inch and is running a mile. In my lifetime to see an executive stepping down because the government told him to? Sooner or later, these execs are going to get REAL tired of obambi and congress, and start not taking bailouts.

Obama is like any communist. He will act like a strong man both at home and abroad. Just because he doesn’t pull out of Iraq or Afghanistan, doesn’t mean he cares one whit about national security. He will pull out when it serves his purposes.

Right now for a conservative pundit to get noticed, he needs to go against the grain. That means sounding the moderate horn so that people will look that way, and poo-poo them. It’s a timeworn tactic.

As long as we express ourselves honestly, with passion but not hysteria, with wit not abusiveness, with honor not cowardice, we will eventually prevail.

In closing, in the Breitbart thread on Gateway Pundit, a libbie essentially confessed that he/she believed that the ends justified the means in order to “change perspectives in the goal to attaining a more perfect union.” to which I replied:

And here, in a nutshell, we see the difference in our worldviews. To the left, the ends justifies the means. Morality doesn’t matter, ethics doesn’t matter, only the end result counts.

Would arguing with him accomplish anything? Of course not. He has no real idea what you’re saying to him; all he knows is that, perhaps for the first time in his life, someone is taking him seriously. Keep that up and he will never leave.

Simply because the Iraq and Afghanistan “overseas contingencies” continue in their present state does not deminish the dramatic moves to fundamentally redefine the nature of our society in a number of key industries and in so doing, vastly expand of the role of goverment.

Whether they’re trolling for attention or political gain, starving them will get rid of them. Ganging up on them only encourages them and allows them to change the subject, which is why they troll in the first place.

Whether you win or lose an argument with a troll, they win.

Our problem is that too many on the right take pleasure in endless, pointless arguing (self included) that it’s often hard not to engage trolls. Sometimes the Internet is our only outlet.

And that should be reassuring to anyone concerned about where he is heading as commander-in-chief.

Not to someone who thinks that LBJ was a disaster.

Not to Ralph Peters.

Afghanistan’s not worth a mullah’s hemorrhoid.

Not to a certain 5-star General either.

Preventive war was an invention of Hitler. Frankly, I would not even listen to anyone seriously that came and talked about such a thing. When people speak to you about a preventive war, you tell them to go and fight it.

David Horowitz take on Obama appears to be no different than the majority of the “conservative intelligentsia”. They just see another leftist politician who cannot really do that much damage to the republic. I think they grossly underestimate the impact he is having on the republic. The massive spending and take-over of the private sector will in my opinion be more consequential than these people appear to believe.

Not all of them are open liberals i.e. Proud Rino, chekote . He was also talking about these people openly lib or not, using the sites to disrupt, distract and cause chaos.

Yes, cons have ODS like the left had BDS.

Ya’ll have that in common.

Economy saved.

Auto restructured.

Chill out on the ODS.

I would add Sethstorm. I don’t mind DeathToMediaHacks. He’s usually wrong but most of the time he tries to support his positions with facts. The others are simply trolls.

You have a point that he is honing in on Mobys in their spread of disinformation, although derailing discussion is also a hallmark of trolls.

And that should be reassuring to anyone concerned about where he is heading as commander-in-chief.

Circa 2012:

Just about four years ago I set out on Obama’s Afghanistan road,
Seekin’ my fame and glory, lookin’ to turn the mullah’s hemorrhoid into a pot of gold.
Well, things got bad, and things got worse, I guess you will know the tune.
Oh ! lord, stuck in Obama’s Afghanistan again.

Flew in on a big plane, I hope I’ll be in one piece flyin out when I go.
I was just passin’ through, must now be yet another 2 tours or more.
Running out of time and patience, looks like they took more of my friends.
Oh ! lord, Im stuck in Obama’s Afghanistan again.

The Hope and Change man in the White House said yet again I was on my way.
Somewhere I lost his connection, he ran out of words to say.
I came into Kabul, a one year stand, looks like the plans fell through again
Oh ! lord, stuck in Obama’s Afghanistan again.

Mmmm…
If I only had a woman, for evry Obama tour Ive done.
And evry time Ive had to fight while chickenhawks Obama and Biden sat back home power drunk.
You know, Id like to catch the next plane back to where Im from.
Oh ! lord, Im stuck in Obama’s Afghanistan again.
Oh ! lord, Im stuck in Obama’s Afghanistan again.

Exactly, they can call themselves whatever they want all they intend to do is disrupt, derail or otherwise create some diversion in the thread. It would be different if they had any thoughtful arguments but most often it is taunting and nothing else.

While I rarely agree with him, ernesto also tries to articulate his beliefs. Not nearly as shallow as those on katy’s list.

I greatly respect David Horowitz’s ability to take the temperature of an ideological fever but he is too quick to dismiss Mark Steyn’s contention that Obama is indeed a ‘transformative’ radical.

Simply because the Iraq and Afghanistan “overseas contingencies” continue in their present state does not deminish the dramatic moves to fundamentally redefine the nature of our society in a number of key industries and in so doing, vastly expand of the role of goverment.

moxie_neanderthal on March 30, 2009 at 11:24 PM

I don’t get what Horowitz was driving at with that statement. Why would sticking with Bush’s overall strategy in Iraq and Afghanistan mean that Obama isn’t a “transformative radical?” It’s not Iraq and Afghanistan that we’re worried about him transforming.

Back in America, we’re looking pretty damn transformed after only a few months of this administration. In fact, one of the big summer blockbusters arrived early: it’s “Transformers 2,” with the formerly private auto industry morphing into a dilapidated jalopy with federal license plates. Optimus Subprime went bad and battered the financial system so badly that they panicked and surrendered to the evil Obamatron. Now all our hopes are pinned on a rag-tag band of Republi-cons, fighting a desperate rear-guard action to save America from Obamatron’s even more sinister master, the brains of the operation, Lord TelePrompTer. Only time will tell if this massive production can justify its bloated budget, with some estimates ranging above $3 trillion and production insiders whispering of more budget overruns to come… but on the other hand, unlike most of the other spectaculars gracing the silver screen this summer, attendance at this one is compulsory.

I can’t imagine what David Horowitz thinks a “transformative radical” would look like, if he doesn’t see one when he looks at Obama. It must be something involving grey uniforms, towering statues of the Dear Leader on every street corner, and armies of jackbooted thugs enforcing Party discipline on a terrified populace. Personally, I’d like to transform this particular radical into a trivia question before things get that far.
