WaPo reporter: How come Palin needs to pray with other people?
posted at 9:00 pm on March 27, 2009 by Allahpundit
It’s a special Hardball segment indeed, my friends, where Chris “Can Palin read?” Matthews is the most pro-’Cuda of the bunch. Every time I start thinking she’s exaggerating the media bias against her, something like this comes along and makes me check myself. Be sure to watch at least to the point where Matthews makes fun of her “windshield-wiper wave” — yes, really — or, better yet, where he cracks wise about the GOP being like the 700 Club.

Huckabee lied and smeared. It was all he has. He is a dishonest politician. The guy is dirty.

That’s it? Weak cheese my friend. Keep supporting a guy who thinks Jesus came to America.

So how are your anti-Palin smears any different from “Huckabee tactics”?

Why are you obsessed with attacking Mormons are you a bigot? People think your beliefs are a laughing stock, bible boy.
Poptech on March 28, 2009 at 2:45 AM
Too bad the media never did any talking about this stuff. I haven’t read his books because I think I couldn’t stomach it. I also fault McCain for not dealing with this while the primary was underway. Did he think Hilary was going to be harder to beat than Obama? I can not understand what he was thinking.
I really like Palin and I got the sense some of her true spirit was held back by the campaign. However, I also have concerns that she was really damaged by the campaign as well. I think she could come back from it but it might take time. I think the best thing she could do is support candidates in 2010. She might get a 2nd look in the process from the general public.

Why are you so obsessed with attacking Sarah Palin? Shouldn’t that hatred be reserved for, oh I dunno, Osama bin Laden or someone evil and depraved? I don’t see anything wrong with saying that she’s not federal government material, but what the hell do you care about her “handlers” running Alaska?

There you go again Poptech saying that Palin destroyed herself in the 2008 campaign when any educated person knows that everybody improves their performance with age and experience under their belt.
Branding Sarah Palin or any human being is a futile exercise. Nobody stays the same. They either improve or regress.
Now if you are going to try to make an argument that Sarah Palin is going to regress I would invite you to read the biographies and autobiographies of great men and women in the last 100 years and you will find that over 95% of them found themselves at the peak of their performance (non-athletic or non-show-business) after the age of 40.
Sarah Palin is entering her prime as a politician. When she runs for the presidency at 48 she will still be young enough to put in 18 hour days but much more astute and knowledgeable about every aspect and issue related to federal politics.
Any college student will tell you he or she is not the same person that entered college as a freshman as opposed to when he or she receives his or her diploma.
Most of us on HA are intellectually honest; we understand life; we understand the promise of youth and we understand that the promise of youth eventually blossoms into a full-blown agent of efficient delivery and timely execution. In 3-4 years Sarah will have arrived at the point, and there is nothing you or Obama can do to stop her.

Poptech on March 28, 2009 at 2:54 AM
I agree alittle but all the trash will be out by 2012. I do not think Gov. Palin will run for re-election in 2010 but instead use this time to help other like minded GOPers. She may at the same time lay the foundations for 2012. The real Gov. Palin is a force that should not be underestimated and if you do you do so at your own peril.
Clyde5445 on March 28, 2009 at 2:56 AM
Sorry I wasn’t clear, I meant for her to support other like minded GOPers not run herself. When she is able to assist good candidates in getting elected in 10, it is also an opportunity for the general public to look at her again without her being a candidate. She could help clear up some of the damage done in this past election.

Media Malpractice, by John Zielgler, was a major step in rehabitating Sarah Palin. If you haven’t viewed it yet, you should.
But basically it exposes how the media set about to destroy Sarah Palin right after August 29th, 2008 through disinformation, lies, smears, mockery, sarcasm etc because Obama and the MSM recognized the danger that Sarah posed to the dream of Bill Ayres and Saul Alinsky to foment revolution and take over the American government and establish a totalitarian state based on Marxist-socialist principles. It’s out there to see now. The curtain has been drawn back; we now see who the wizard is and how he has been fooling us.
Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. msmveritas: this will not happen again.
Read Elaine Lafferty’s essay on the IQ of Sarah Palin in The Daily Beast if you doubt her intelligence or her ability to learn or process information.
We have 4 years to get the word out on who Sarah truly is and what she is capable of.
technopeasant on March 28, 2009 at 3:04 AM
Oh no a bad interview! let’s call it off. But Romney can be a member of a racist church, impose statism, socialized medicine, flip-flop, and you’re still on board.
You can’t name the multiple aspects of the Bush doctrine without looking up Krauthammer’s article. Bill Sammon, who has written at least 2 books on Bush, even said that Bush himself wasn’t able to define it. No one can because it constantly changed.
Which has been refuted by actually named people.
Now you’re turn. Romney Flip Flops…

Yes, I think that if we knew what perversions of mind and body Obama has been exposed to in his lifetime and what that has made of him – the words narccistic and sociopath come to mind just for starters – we would all lose a year’s growth.
On that happy thought I will say goodnight.

I have Media Malpractice, just got it in fact, I need to watch it. I have no doubt she is intelligent and I would vote for her so I am not an obstacle. I think she was slimed unfairly, I guess I just worry about undoing that. The midterms are a good chance to rebuild her credibility. I also think she needs to find a way to bypass the MSM eventually.

And don’t go hurling unfair attacks at other Republicans in Palin’s defense. First because it is wrong to do so, second because it creates bad feelings between people who should be allied, not infighting, and third because tearing down another does not lift you up; you become the very enemy you fight.

A lot of people who arent Mormons speculate and wonder if that is true. I was in Mexico last summer and the Mayans had this white God visiting them and the nonMormon tour guide said many native people believe it was Jesus.
Now, if you want to believe something dumb…try believing a dude got two of every animal on the face of the earth, and put them on a boat, and then it rained for 40 days and every person and animal died except those on the boat.
That story puts the Jesus in America story to shame in its abject absurdity. In other words, STFU. thanks.

To put everything in perspective it is remarkable what has happened to keep Sarah in the spotlight since the election: turning a close 4 point spread in Chambliss’ runoff into a 14 point landslide victory; remaining numero uno in the hearts and minds of the base in polls, being the only prominent Republican I know of who suggested that Obama veto the stimulus package and thus instantly causing him to have ownership over the consequences, ruffling Team Sarah and the pro-life community with her choice of Ms. Christen as a Supreme Court judge, being in the crosshairs of the anklebiters, refusing 31% of the stimulus package, and being selected to keynote the Congressional dinner in June, while skipping the Congressional retreat, CPAC and the RGA meetings and basically keeping out of the national spotlight for 4 months because ‘she is not allowed out of her cage’ until the legislature adjourns.
In spite of all this lack of notoriety Sarah still commands the attention of the lower 48. It’s like she never went away in the public’s mind.
nsmveritas never in the history of America has a losing VP candidate ever secured the Presidential nomination of his/her party in the following election. The reason is that losing VP candidates are usually forgotten and sent to the scrap heap of history. Not Sarah.
technopeasant on March 28, 2009 at 3:40 AM
I think Palin was slimed unfairly too. Especially in light of the fact of who she was running against. Had 40 some odd journalists combing Wasilla for info but not one heading to Chicago to dig up dirt in plain sight.
Some Native Americans say that someone who taught the same things, and performed many of the same miracles did. Prove to me that Jesus didn’t come to America.
There’s plenty of evidence that he did if you ask me. Look up a book called ‘He Walked The Americas’. You’ll see the old legends I speak of in that book.
Chaz706 on March 28, 2009 at 3:41 AM
V15J probably believes some dude got swallowed by a whale and lived in the whale for 3 days or something. he also probably believes some dude hit his donkey and the donkey said “hey, why are you hitting me for? I didnt do anything wrong??”
And the dude has the nerve to put down somebody ELSE’S religion for beliefs not nearly as bizarre and absurd as those.

Hey Matthews hows about you cover something that matters like the echoing, empty offices at Treasury. Because Treasury is where the bonuses were confirmed, where the nationalize firms thing goes through, where all the TARP money is overseen etc etc. Being overworked and understaffed at Treasury would be a bad thing and a REAL news story now wouldnt it?
Be a reporter Matthews; not a shill or fluff piece call it in from home cover writer. Course, you have to still have your journalistic integrity for that.

Chaz706 on March 28, 2009 at 3:41 AM
The story line of the Book of Mormon is what makes it so obviously a 19th century production, as I see it. To me it’s not so much a question of whether Jesus came to America as it is “were there horses or iron-smelting in pre-Columbian America?”
It’s an interesting book, though. Overlaying the 19th century background is revealing as to its origins, in my opinion. Particularly the story line in Mormon 1:1-19 and its similarities to Joseph Smith Jr’s own life.
He ran for President too, you know. He and Sidney Rigdon. Interestingly, Nauvoo, Illinois rivaled Chicago politics for a few years.

Her stumble with the Supreme Court decision question was the most problematic. She could have answered the newspaper question better. Mentioning local papers would have been good. If she combined that with pointing to news feeds on the Internet she would have slammed Katie. By not identifying a single source of information, she had to know she was leaving the door open for criticism.

The childish sniping at religion and general bomb dropping by The Wall and V15J makes me really suspect they are here to win people over to their candidate. You can’t possibly think you will convert a Palin supporter by trashing her or a Mitt supporter by attacking his religion. I seriously hope that both Palin and Romney make it clear to their supporters they don’t want this done on their behalf.

I think the question they were debating is “why does Palin pray” although they wouldn’t say it that way. And if this is the case, this is an attack on religion and God. The media DOES go after Palin—they will twist any statement she makes. She could say “the sky is blue” and they will twist it. I’ve seen it. I judge Palin not by what the media tells me, but for information that I find without the media spin and from what I’ve seen, she’s doing a good job. Her earlier interviews were edited to make her look like the media wanted her to look. Hmmm, wasn’t the ability to speak and get a crowd going the reason why the media went for Obama? Where is the tingle up the leg for Palin? She can do the same and much more, she actually has experience and has done more than vote present 143 times.

They are missing the whole point of her statement. She said there wasn’t anyone there she WANTED to pray with. That to me says there wasn’t anyone there she felt she could trust and felt comfortable with. And after the lies the campaign spewed about her after the election, I’d say she was pretty much dead on in that feeling.
It’s more provocative to suggest that she was saying there were no “religious” folk in the McCain campaign. To spin it as she is some religious zealot nutcase who is pandering to other religious zealot nutcases. It is intellectually lazy and dishonest. But, I am not a bit surprised by it. I don’t think Gov. Palin is either.

Naming which magazine you read is an endorsement of the magazine. And though you may read material in order to be up on topics on Katie Couric’s superficial level to discuss with flimflam reporters, there is no reason to endorse any magazine. Satisfying the likes of Katie Couric & entourage is insufficient reason to open a can of worms that isn’t even yours, naming this or that magazine as “your” reading material.
Just ask every journalist their unnamed source of information and get their monumental marble wall of deafening silence dropped on your head.

The media and political establishment fear her down to their toes. She is a Christianist with power (in their view) and must be stopped. Her Christian faith and its many and varied followers are the one force that is currently standing athwart history yelling “Stop” to the secular humanist agenda of collective identity and no personal or moral responsibility. No other faith commands the numbers or allegiance in the US that the Christian churches do and so they attack, attack, attack. With Huckabee and Romney as men of faith at the forefront, they are surely frustrated with their inability to make her the sole face of the Christian right but it is not for lack of trying. Christianity to them only represents loss – loss of the freedom to indulge, guilt-free, in irresponsible sexual behavior, irresponsible personal behavior and irresponsible business behavior – and nothing motivates people so much as the fear of loss.
Of course, the quandary they face is the growing Muslim population. Islam demands much more doctrinal rigor than Christianity, with even its most brutal precepts codified into law and apostasy punishable by death, but the media tremble in fear of the violence of radical Islamic fundamentalist reaction to even perceived offense so they leave it alone for now. There will come a time, I think, when they will wish that their only antagonist were Christianity.

Why do they fear Sarah Palin?
1) Because they see her connect with crowds, and know she’s a threat
2) Because they love Obama, and she’s a threat to him
3) Because she’s not afraid to hit Obama where it counts, unlike … everybody else in politics
4) Because she gets the support of the people they don’t like
a) the religious right
b) people who hate big government
c) people who want the government to win the War on Terror
d) people who don’t want the government running their lives
e) the great unwashed
But mostly, they fear her because she might cost them the election.
As for Poptroll, the only question he raises is, “What is his problem?”

Sounds awfully cocky for a guy who supports someone who could only draw 52% of the vote with a totally sycophantic media and an overhyped “crisis”. And Obama’s not really getting any more popular.
ddrintn on March 28, 2009 at 12:10 PM
You are a total ass, who doesn’t know anything about what you are addressing. You are throwing the race card, with nothing but your assertions. Get humped, jerk.
Brian1972 on March 28, 2009 at 12:16 PM
LOL, sure we were a christian nation 200 years ago, actually a WHITE christian nation. But your ancient enemy ToE(theory of evolution) is stealing your power.
It isn’t just genetic evolution that is busting your chops, its cultural evolution and demographic evolution.
In 2020 caucasion becomes a minority.
strangelet on March 28, 2009 at 12:17 PM
Ima grrl.
Sexist pigs…just because I use REALLY BIG WORDS you think Im an XY.
lol
strangelet on March 28, 2009 at 12:19 PM
But it wasn’t. There are many landmark decisions that have nothing to do with abortion.
dedalus on March 28, 2009 at 12:26 PM
Trust me, if she was naked, you wouldn’t have to point it out.
jimmy2shoes on March 28, 2009 at 12:34 PM
Your premise is false-please account for non caucasion Christians…also keep in mind people, Christian or otherwise, can explore the theory of evolution, but unless and until the absolutes are in evolution will remain scientifically a theory.

You know, my son votes present everyday in kindergarten. If I get him a teleprompter and let him organize his Legos, will he too be qualified to be President?
jimmy2shoes on March 28, 2009 at 12:40 PM
Who is this white christianist god of whom you speak?
jimmy2shoes on March 28, 2009 at 12:41 PM
Dude, she couldn’t even cite Exxon-Valdiz, a decision she publically disagreed with.
No substrate, like Brooks said.
Face it, she’s an ex-beauty pageant contestant fishgutting wolfshooting PTA Grandma that couldn’t even claim the allegiance of the 80s hairbands she named her first born after: Track Van Palin, in a tribute to Van Halen.
The problem with using anti-elitism in a culture war, is that the cultural elites, ie, music, film, theater, art, dance, are all on the other side too.
IPOF, the only elites on your side are the elites of talk radio and the clergy.

Har! Har!! You can’t make this garbage up! Imagine this bonehead, who admits having voted for both (thats BOTH) Ross Perot AND Bob Barr — epic failures by any measure — imagine him, of all persons, daring to post these words!!! Poptech is like a monument to incompetance, to failure, to all that is ignorant and crude. Spam on poppy, spam on!
littleguy on March 28, 2009 at 12:58 PM
Although you are the tiniest possible segment of “the media”, AP, you are still part of the Palin-bashing crowd. Your pointing fingers at other bashers is hardly laudatory.
SKYFOX on March 28, 2009 at 1:14 PM
That’s a good one.
Facts from opinion pieces in Salon and Rolling Stone magazine. Facts from a US Today story that was retracted. Facts like the Alaska Permanent Fund is “socialist.”
Poptard repeats easily disproved arguments ad infinitum on every Palin thread, and a good deal of time and energy is spent arguing with him and increasing the site’s traffic, and the regulars are annoyed thinking they can ever reason with the troll. It’s an exercise in madness.
chunderroad on March 28, 2009 at 1:27 PM
Having been proven wrong on everything else in other Palin threads, poor strangelet has the tiny consolation of has-been endorsements validating her politics, since reality and reason are not on her side. The Democratic party hascelebrity endorsements going for it.
To quote from The Wedding Singer, “Take off my Van Halen shirt before you jinx the band and they break up.”
chunderroad on March 28, 2009 at 1:38 PM
I think after four years of a devout follower of Black Liberation Theology in the White House, the prospects of a true christian like Palin will be acceptable to many. This includes Mormons(well except for the bitter one’s still clinging to Romney), Catholics, Jews, and any denomination of Christianity in between. The Godless religion that will inspire our current President will have a destructive effect on our country. This will be obvious to many people of faith, and will hopefully lead them to electing a strong woman of faith, who stands for Life, and yes likes to pray. I have found that praying is a rewarding experience, not something that should be ridiculed. We will see if Reverend Wright’s beliefs will be espoused by his favorite pupil who now occupies the oval office. I somehow doubt this racist hate filled religion is gonna appeal to many people of faith. I believe the crazy christian lady will. Obama will appeal to the black panthers assorted Marxist, communist, and other devout socialist.

The second group of elites is producing more quality than the first. Sad, ain’t it?
ddrintn on March 28, 2009 at 2:04 PM
^ Plus, the second group doesn’t consist of government parasites, in the main.
ddrintn on March 28, 2009 at 2:05 PM
And you have so much in common.
DannoJyd on March 28, 2009 at 2:10 PM
Alas, more != more voters.
