Most awesomely awesome video ever: SEIU pickets … SEIU

posted at 5:40 pm on March 27, 2009 by Ed Morrissey

It’s the perfect ending for an awful week at the SEIU. First they lose Arlen Specter and pretty much any hope of passing Card Check. Now they have their own employees accusing SEIU president Andy Stern of “union busting” by laying off 75 of the workers in their national office. The worst part for Stern? He had to listen to the moronic “hey hey, ho ho” chant outside SEIU HQ all day:

Gee, I wonder if the SEIU employees at HQ crossed the picket lines today.  Did they hire thugs to beat themselves up — or did they hire them to beat up the protestors?  Inquiring minds want to know…

It’s cold comfort. These criminals should all be in jail. They are the destroyers of civilized societies.

progressoverpeace on March 27, 2009 at 5:42 PM

Can we start a thread for new slogans for these idiots. I mean it hasn’t changed in almost 50 years. I think people should be sent to jail for a maximum of 5 years if you start by saying “Hey Hey, Ho Ho…”

hippies have jobs?

Kaptain Amerika on March 27, 2009 at 5:46 PM

You know the old saying. A conservative is an SEIU president who’s been picketed. Both left and right have ideologies. But only conservative ideology survives an encounter with reality.

hippies have jobs?

If they work at the post office.

keep the change on March 27, 2009 at 5:48 PM

So these people are protesting lost jobs in a union who’s job is to prevent lost jobs in a company by protesting.

Methinks they need a union for the union!

ebrawer on March 27, 2009 at 5:49 PM

Did they hire thugs to beat themselves up — or did they hire them to beat up the protestors?

Heh, reminds me of that scene in the movie Liar Liar when Jim Carey is beating himself up and the guy walks in asking him what he’s doing and Carrey replies, “I’m kicking my own ass!!”

Liberty or Death on March 27, 2009 at 5:51 PM

They got the idea for this protest from those commercials where Coke Zero reps want to sue Classic Coke.

LMFAO@ “Crossing Picket Lines!” “Did they hire thugs to beat themselves up!” Dude, you gotta quit…I’m sitting here laughing my arse off and my wife thinks I’m ‘on something’.

SEIU spent 85 million during the 2008 Elections…Now it can’t afford to pay its own workers.

Excellent point.

You know what turned Ann Coulter so against unions from an early age? She got an up close and personal look at union hypocrisy/thuggery/violence from an early age. Her father was a union-buster:

http://www.humanevents.com/article.php?id=24379

In the early 1980s, as vice president and labor lawyer for Phelps Dodge copper company, Father broke a strike against the company, which culminated in the largest union decertification ever — at that time and perhaps still. President Reagan had broken the air traffic controllers’ strike in 1981. But unions recognized that it was the breaking of the Phelps Dodge strike a few years later that landed the greater blow, as described in the book “Copper Crucible.”

There was massive violence by the strikers, including guns being fired into the homes of the mine employees who returned to work. Every day, Father walked with the strikebreakers through the picket line, (in my mind) brushing egg off his suit lapel.

By 1986 it was over; the mineworkers voted against the union and Phelps Dodge was saved. For any liberals still reading, this is what’s known as a “happy ending.”

Stern was probably listening to Laura Ingraham, followed by Rush, followed by Hannity, followed by Levin, and couldn’t hear these losers.

Wow, if they put as much effort and passion into their jobs as they did this…this is their job.

That letter was a little juvenile – sounds like something Obama would say. I wonder if his supporters will follow his request. Could be a very tight race. There may be a recount in the near future.

Liberty or Death on March 27, 2009 at 6:20 PM

How angry do these people have to get to take it on down to 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. That is something I would love to see.

Andy Stern is an idiot.

Why does SEIU exist?

What does it teach it’s members?

NO MATTER WHAT HAPPENS with the economoy, NO MATTER WHAT’S GOING ON with the company, the company must always be increasing it’s:

1. number of unionized employees
2. the pay of unionized employees
3. the benefits of unionized employees

So after diligently teaching his minions these inalienable truths, what happens?

Stern decides SEIU can’t afford to have so many employees and trying to save money, he lays 75 of them off.

What, did he think because it’s SEIU somehow the THREE INALIENABLE LAWS didn’t apply to them?

He broke rule number one.

HE LAYED OFF 75 UNION EMPLOYEES.

You CAN’T DO THAT, no matter WHO you are.

For WHATEVER reason.

Don’t have the money?

Tough skit!

What, you expect UNION MEMBERS to be sympathetic to the fact the company has no money to pay them?

Take a loss then. Bleed red. They could care less. Fire non-union employees. Get creative.

Just because you have no money to pay them and can’t afford to keep them any more is no excuse for firing ANY union employee.

After all, haven’t Andy Stern and his buddies just spent decades drumming this sort of thinking into member’s head?

Enjoy the fruits of your own labor, Andy you dumb prick!

They are protesting the employers plan to offshore the thuggery to Indian call centers. The company also wanted to replace picket lines with video screens that showed people holding signs and chanting. Those people would be paid 10 cents a day and would be fed a bowl of slop at the end of each 16 hour shift.

In fact, I believe that this isn’t actually SEIU members protesting SEIU. It’s SEIU employees (members of the Union of Union Workers) that are picketing.

JadeNYU on March 27, 2009 at 6:44 PM

First they lose Arlen Specter and pretty much any hope of passing Card Check.

Arlen Specter knows he’s Republican toast. What’s to stop from doing what all craven Congrestitutes do – ignore promises and do what they want. Hey, SEIU support for an ‘Independent’ (i.e., a known politician that is well and truly bought as Specter is) will split the Republican ticket meaning that, even if both Specter and Toomy lose, the putrid Democrat Party picks up a Senate seat.

Too bad we can’t corral all of these people into California, build a fence and let them pass all the laws they want, impose all the taxes they want and let the libs and Hollywood types live in their own little socialist nirvana but leave the rest of us out of their little experiment and free from their collectivist boot.

Maybe we should arm some of the protesters. A little internecine blood letting and thinning of their herds would be a plus.

What will happen when the stimulus jobs (congress mandated these jobs MUST be performed by Union workers)run out?

On another note I love that ACORN, etc. can convince people to work for nothing b*tching about low paying jobs. It is almost funny that these clowns finally looked at each other and said..”Hey what about what we get for OUR work?”

Conan on March 28, 2009 at 12:54 AM

Nah, Stern and his big labor boss cronies are just waiting for EFCA (er, Card Check, or, more accurately, EUB — Enrich Union Bosses).

either orr on March 28, 2009 at 2:01 AM

I have no problems with the idea of unions, but this notion that a union can gain a monopoly on all possible workers for some positions is just insane and totally un-Constitutional. I cannot even imagine a rational argument to defend this. And it’s interesting how it’s illegal for separate companies to collude in negotiating with workers, but unions can operate through whole industries as a central authority. Unreal.
