Glenn Beck: It’s time for a march on Washington

posted at 7:20 pm on March 27, 2009 by Allahpundit
Share on Facebook | printer-friendly

He’s playing this off like he’s just tossing out the idea, but come on: Anyone not think he’s at least toying with the possibility of planning a mass protest himself? His Oprah-fied populism is a huge hit; why not take it to the next level and see how many people he can pull into the streets for a march? He could even get this guy to don his cravat and lead the parade. It won’t do much to scare Congress so long as The One’s approval rating is high, but it might be a shot in the arm for the GOP. All they need is a date — Tax Day? May Day? — and a few hundred thousand conservatives willing to take a day off and travel a few hundred (or thousand) miles. Exit question: Would you go? Nah, you wouldn’t.

Of course I would have to quit my job to stop the IRS from just taking the money out of my check. But what the hell.

Terrye on March 27, 2009 at 11:37 PM

Anyone can go to their HR and change their filing status to “Exempt” in which case they will withhold no federal income taxes. Will there be repercussions? Possibly. Is it worth it? That is up to each individual.

Tax Day Tea Party – Morristown, NJ on the Green – 12 noon.

Tax Day Tea Party – Atascadero, CA Sunken Gardens 12 noon

Everyone should put the info for their area on their car back windows…pass the word…a lot of people don’t know until they’re over with.

if you say so, Saltysam.

Just an observation…

Saltysam on March 27, 2009 at 11:50 PM

I’d go.

At best, you get folks energized to go back to their homes and work for conservative causes.

At worst, you meet a lot of cute conservative women.

Seems like a win/win.

Jack M. on March 27, 2009 at 10:41 PM

Amen brother. I’d be there for sure. You know, as much as what’s going on in Washington deeply disturbs me, it’s kind of neat being the “opposition.” Brings me closer to what our founding fathers must have felt like. That said, I’d rather not be the opposition for much longer.

Greyfox on March 27, 2009 at 11:51 PM

BadMojo on March 27, 2009 at 11:47 PM

Or you can go and file for an extension like I did and send in a few bucks to the IRS. It’s perfectly legal. If enough people filed for extensions, I wonder what the impact would be?

Knucklehead on March 27, 2009 at 11:51 PM

I wouldn’t go because I no longer believe the politicians are paying any attention.

Conservatives might get fired up, but we’re a ‘law and order’ type fired up. No one is going to be worried that they’d better listen to us or something bad might happen.

JadeNYU on March 27, 2009 at 7:43 PM

The protests aren’t for the politicians to see. They’re for us. Glenn’s tack all year has been to demonstrate that “we surround them”. How many people last year voted for Obama because they thought you would be some kind of weirdo or outcast if you voted for McCain? The liberals have been hammering home for years the message that extreme leftism is the political norm… these tea parties and marches and protests make it clear that IT IS NOT SO. Large and frequent protests between now and 2010 may not have any effect on the Democrats currently in power, but they have a potentially game-changing effect on the electorate, especially spineless “moderates” like Allahpundit.

joe_doufu on March 27, 2009 at 11:52 PM

AP – I have never seen someone so out of touch (and so cocky about it) with not only with their own reality but their cultural environment and the pulse of the Nation.

As much time as you spend blogging and watching the news cycle one would think you have a clue or one creative idea.

You are truly the most dunder-headed fool I’ve ever witnessed and I’ve met so many.

Don’t hide behind me when the sh!t falls apart you pinko.

I think that’s a little overboard. Allah has done and does quite a bit of good with this blog, but his detachment from what’s going on is disturbing, as I explained here:

HornetSting on March 27, 2009 at 11:53 PM

I love Glenn but this is where we part company. Conservatives do their talking at the ballot box. That’s what happened on 11/7/06 and 11/4/08. There are ample votes to give the Republican Party a very comfortable win but “that” they will not have until they stop trying to be centrists. All the marching in the world won’t help. DD

Darvin Dowdy on March 27, 2009 at 11:55 PM

Saltysman:

Once again, I don’t know what you are talking about. It seems to me that you are picking a fight for no good reason.

Terrye on March 27, 2009 at 11:46 PM

So, I picked a fight?

This is a fight?

If this is a “fight”, I think it was you that posted at me directly to begin with, challenging my post.

That’s fine; I’m not offended. I hope that I have not offended you.

I believe I’ve treated you with a high degree of respect and civility.

If you do not understand what I am talking about, then please ask me for clarification on any specifics.

I’d be happy to oblige.

Hornet, New Mexico is having tea parties 4/15 in Farmington, Hobbs, Albuquer uh etc.
Las Cruces and Santa Fe.
My sign in Oklahoma will say

Janna on March 27, 2009 at 11:35 PM

Las Cruces is only 70 miles away. May have to travel over there if I can’t get some people interested here. I think people are so damn angry they will go for it, though.

So, let me get this straight because I had to attend to staff services for my cat.
Salty and Terrye are fighting about paying taxes. Salty wants to revolt, say 150 million people giving the government the finger on April 15th and Terrye, doesn’t feel that would do any good because the IRS would just come and take your stuff. Well, I figure there would be a lot of people to chase after. Their leader is too stupid to file his own taxes and the government can’t find thrity million illegal aliens that march every May 1st demanding rights. I figure if you were one of even seventy million, you’d be safe. Am I getting this right?

Dogs have owners, cats have staff.
Back story, during the Obama debacle prime time, I made mention that my cat could do a better job than Obama and she was licking her butt at the moment, (she’s doing the same thing right now as I write), and we figured we would replace Obama with my cat…..it’s gone to her head and she requires a maid now.

I think even a stupid troll knows that this would be the wrong hornet’s nest to stir (a subject of which you obviously have expertise!).

Of course. Allah keeps giving them bait with Palin threads. You can’t even get a word in edgewise when the trolls get rolling. I just can’t understand the stupidity that leads these morons around by the nose.

This made me think of one of the early Family Guy episodes (before it became a liberal, Christian bashing show) where Y2K causes a nuclear holocaust and Peter talks about the need for guns in New Quahog.

He says something to the effect of “Without guns how would our forefathers have settled their differences?” and then it cuts to two guys in powdered wigs doing the classic 10 paces and turn and them running towards each other and girl slapping each other.

MobileVideoEngineer on March 28, 2009 at 12:32 AM

Hi Oink-
Sounds great–lets go for it.
I live in Los Angeles so the southern route it is for me.
About sharing rides and expenses (gas, etc.) I could take three
persons in my car or I could go with someone else and share
their expenses.
Stopping off in public parks for rallys on the way and picnics to save food costs if needed or just for rest stops.

I will post this on my meetup board and talk to the group about it. They are all conservatives, at least no rinos

Saltysam on March 28, 2009 at 12:21 AM

That would be hilarious if it wasn’t true and the worst part is that WE are paying THEIR salaries!
BTW, yes, 70 million would be a whole lot of people to find, especially if you can’t find your ass with two hands and a flashlight. If my husband didn’t get his paycheck FROM the government, we would join in. Unfortunately, they have us by the short hairs. :>)

HornetSting on March 28, 2009 at 12:34 AM

Well they apparently can’t find 20 million illegal immigrants to deport them, so maybe it would only take 15 to 20 million.

MobileVideoEngineer on March 28, 2009 at 12:36 AM

Well, I’ll go to the one in St. Paul MN on April 15. It’s difficult to get to Washington, but if there’s enough notice, I might try.

This is our chance to speak up, folks. Don’t ignore it.

mngander92 on March 28, 2009 at 12:41 AM

“I live in Los Angeles so the southern route it is for me.”

I drove that route twice … how I discovered Rush Limbaugh, actually. Grand Canyon, Petrified Forest, Painted Desert, Meteor Crater … a beautiful trip. Maybe even a chance for a side trip to White Sands and Trinity site. That is a great route if you get the chance.

I get the feeling that RINOs don’t like Beck very much. At least Beck is trying to accomplish SOMETHING which is WAY more than any RINO or party-line GOP member will do, all those people want to do is whine, complain and wring their hands. Even Gingrich is slurping up the Obunghole propaganda like it’s a smoothie. Guns are NOT crossing the Mexican border from the U.S., it’s a LIE People. GOP members are becoming Obungholes “Willing Idiots” if you by this propaganda.

I heart Glenn Beck. I was so excited when he made the move to Fox.

I like Allah a lot. I’ve been at HotAir since the beginning, and even stopped reading Michelle’s blog as much since she launched this one because it’s so good. Even despite my issues with Allah’s atheism and his condescending attitude towards believers/logic, I will say that I’m a “fan” (for lack of a better word)….

BUT, his continual mocking of Beck and others who see what is going on is annoying and perplexing to me. AP is clearly an intelligent individual, and I’m not sure just why he can’t see what is happening right now. If I didn’t respect him as a person, I’d just dismiss him and talk to the rest of ya’ll who are on the same page as me, but I’m just so damn confused by his attitude of late.

THANK YOU! This man is Oprah for conservatives. Yeah, it’s not personal, it just that I hate seeing people “wondering what happened to him.” Nothing’s worse than seeing people disliking you for “changing” when you’ve never changed a bit.

He’s not a “traitor to the cause,” because he was never really on anyone’s side.

Sadly, we do not have that long to wait. This country will never be the same by the time of the next vote. Maybe they will even have done away with that process as well by then.

There was a time when I would write to my senator expressing my concerns but to no avail; when I finally realized it’s the staff that edits the mail and the senator would only see what was on his agenda. The politicians in power laugh at the public outrage until election time and the they refer to their re-election manual. Politicians are all in the same frat house, like lawyers screaming at each other in court and then having a beer and laughs afterwards. What’s the answer? I wish I knew because now I understand what happened in Germany in the thirties.

mixplix on March 28, 2009 at 9:04 AM

In this era of populism, and flaw-riddled Republican candidates, whom are unlikely to beat the Obamination in 2012, perhaps a populist like Beck or Rush should run for President. Do you actually have to be a politician to be President?

Mister Ghost on March 28, 2009 at 9:11 AM

Maybe at the end of each expose’ remind the public 2010 and 2012(not the end of the world) are around the corner and is our opporutunity to change the guard.

The trick is who do we elect? Consider people who have your interests at heart. Remember, a politician does not need to go to D.C. to implement their ideas. They can really go there and wait for us to call with a idea or a problem that affects all, then their job begins.

First, when the segment of the public gets an idea it may not be widely held by the majority, so our elected politician must garner support among other politicians for the cause and if the problem or idea really is a public issue then they get to go to work to solve the problem. Second, this does not always mean a new law. However, if a law is the answer, then rules should be that nothing can be added to the law that is not relevant to the law, and no pork attached.

I would take a couple days off to be there. I’ve been wanting to hit the Smithsonian for a while now. Although I would need at least 5 days for that to satisfy my craving. It would be sweet to actually to something productive while I’m there.
Make a date.

In fact only 25% of American colonists supported the revolution. But it was the right 25%.

Well there’s a big surprise, the moron known as DeathToMediaHacks (or as I like to call him Hacky Sack) and the moron known as Allahpundit (aka Allahpukedit) agree. Well imagine that, I would have never expected that. /sarc

MobileVideoEngineer on March 28, 2009 at 10:29 AM

Oh, I forgot to add, yeah, I’ll go. We all MUST go. We must write email and fax these ass clowns EVERY DAY. FED ex letters, UPS boxes and file every damned law suit we can.

We must bury them in an avalanche of communication. Bombard them until the flood drowns them.

Has anyone actually proposed a sustained communication onslaught? That IMHO would be more effective than a march they can ignore.

dogsoldier on March 28, 2009 at 10:31 AM

Nobody on here would go. We are in love with our voices, and we all have Napoleonic complexes as we bravely type away here.

Why would we ever want to become just another pinpoint in a sea of hundreds of thousands of street urchins?

We are above all that.

Gawd, Beck and the idea of us protesting have ur skid-marks up in a bunch much? lol! What’s a real protest to you–one that you agree with, huh? You goofs really get unhinged at the thought of any group of people rallying against this admin for any reason or Obama and his policies.

Get used to it. The groundswell’s building.

Not the last couple of election. By next election there will be another graduating class fully indoctrinated by government run schools. Your kind becomes less and less relevant because you have chosen to ignore the foundation of our problems: Public schools.

Bush had a chance to make inroads, instead he gave in to the country clubbers and the elite and stripped vouchers out. You guys are being played by both parties.

Bush did not give us the elite–they have existed since the founding of America. As for your take on Bush’s record of Dr. Evil, how’s this one for size: no other president has given aid to Africa and helped combat AIDS in that continent like George W. Bush. Sad to see the media buries this inconvenient fact all the time because then..well…he just wouldn’t make such a googly-eyed boogeyman.

well, i am going to a tea party. will the idiots in Congress listen? some might.

but to paraphrase a poster above, i’m doing this for myself. I really need to know that “i am not alone” & that others “feel my pain”

kelley in virginia on March 28, 2009 at 11:00 AM

Glenn Beck isn’t wrong as more people are getting mad, and that sentiment is becoming global. I prefer tea party marches over riots.

DannoJyd on March 28, 2009 at 11:01 AM

we need to have many tea parties that reach the local TV stations. and let’s hope there are some big enough somewhere that the stupid network people pick them up.

kelley in virginia on March 28, 2009 at 11:06 AM

I knew that I was probably going to do a march on Washington once the porkulous was passed. I’ve been just waiting for the announcement of a national protest in DC. Will be attending my first local tea party on April 15th.

Will I get off of my dead moderately conservative arse, Allah? Hell, yes. What’s also funny is that I’m becoming decidedly less moderate since January.

Enough is enough.

GeeWhiz on March 28, 2009 at 11:07 AM

I’d go. I don’t have a job anymore thanks to this government anyway. The least I can do is go and stand up for what I believe is right while I wait around for companies to not call me.

ConDem on March 28, 2009 at 11:11 AM

Exit question: Would you go? Nah, you wouldn’t.

Projecting your own attitude, huh?

Anybody want to guess who he might be? Kay Baily Hutchison?

Mcguyver on March 28, 2009 at 11:15 AM

the protests will help us all stay positive because we need to know “we are not alone”.

isn’t it sad that we need this positive bump only after 4 mos of bambi? usually it takes much longer for the weariness & despair to creep in from an administration

kelley in virginia on March 28, 2009 at 11:18 AM

I don’t understand the hostility against Glenn Beck. I laugh out loud when I watch him. Out loud, not a sly grin. It feels good to laugh when things are so crazy. He is genuinely funny… a dead fish wrapped up… And his points are spot on. It is a great combination. And O’Reilly wore the hat!!! Great theater shtick! Sometimes he over reaches but what comic doesn’t?

I just don’t get why so many seem so threatened by his success! I thought the Doom Room was hilarious!!!!! His Communist stuff was both tongue in cheek and our greatest fears vocalized! Bad things are happening. But we don’t have to lose our sense of humour!

Perhaps there is some jealousy involved in all the criticism? Just wondering… ratings like his make people feel insecure.

Just shows your weakness not his.

Anyone can go to their HR and change their filing status to “Exempt” in which case they will withhold no federal income taxes. Will there be repercussions? Possibly. Is it worth it? That is up to each individual.

BadMojo on March 27, 2009 at 11:47 PM

Well actually I have zero withholding and pay my taxes one time on Apr 15th. BTW: You are better off paying once on 4/15 than making estimated payments and being wrong on the amount.

You know, honest to (the)God (allahpundit doesn’t believe in)….

Sometimes I have to wonder which side you’re on, AP? Or, perhaps that’s it – perhaps you aren’t on a side? Maybe you just can’t lower yourself to that level and actually join the masses in picking liberty or tyranny? Some days, you sound like a semi-patriot, and other days you might as well be reading from the Messiah’s teleprompter.

One day, you’re going to fall into the trap that the left has fallen into, AP. You’re going to over-reach, and as the left is going to learn – there are consequences for over-reaching.

Gainesville Georgia Tax Day Tea Party
April 15th, 2009
4PM – 6PM downtown, Poultry Park ( in front of IhoP )

There are over 70 tea parties in GA already…that covers almost every town bigger than a cross-roads with one stop-light.

This is not some silly rally for the GOP. Matter of fact, my local GOP doesn’t have the GUTS to do something like this, and I dare say neither does anyone else’s county GOPr’s. The GOP isn’t getting a shot in the arm from this…they are going to find themselves standing side by side with the democrats in 2010….out in the cold, while independents and Libertarians fill the government.

And I always thought there would never be a legitimate 3rd party in this country…..I’m not libertarian, but I am by GOD not going to vote for either a democrat or a democrat light candidate anymore. My country deserves better. And HA’s readers deserve better than the writings of a self-absorbed keyboard-captain that can’t decide if he’s a conservative or not.

Either get on this train or get out of our way while we conservative American patriots save the Republic. Which Tea Party are YOU going to AP? And if your answer is none of them, because you don’t think they will amount to anything – the what are YOU doing about our new socialist government? Oh, that’s right…I forgot…you’re helping the liberty of the people of this country by blogging half-hearted political posts from your always-on-the-fence perspective. Well, horray for you. What a hero.

In the name of Liberty and without regret,

Thank you for that excellent demonstration on how the mainstream media works hand in hand on the Leftist misinformation campaign.

I see 17 cops, about 25 signs, and maybe 85 people.

I see a headline:

“Thousands Set Off on Rainbow Alliance March”

Set Off?

Blatant indication of a press release sent out by the protest organizers being used as the “big story” by the Left’s lapdog press.

So typical.

Saltysam on March 28, 2009 at 11:32 AM

Sadly, we do not have that long to wait. This country will never be the same by the time of the next vote. Maybe they will even have done away with that process as well by then.

hillbilly on March 28, 2009 at 8:40 AM

The more I listen to what Congress and TOTUS are doing, I’m wondering if things won’t drastically be changed by July 4th, or even April 15th. Congress is desperately trying to push some amendment so they’ll need only 51 votes to push thru Boy Kings ridiculous budget and God only knows what else.

And then we have Turbo Tax Timmy making this huge power grab to take over corporations if he see’s fit….one man, one decision, and he can’t even do his own taxes.

I listened to Newt last night on Greta and then watched Beck and I’m not sure if I’m more scared than I am angry. Am I the only one who thinks this whole thing is spinning out of control at record pace? It seems like there’s not one day that goes by without us finding out another little bill or law that’s being passed right under our noses.

I thought it would take the Boy King a couple of years to take control, not two months.

Knucklehead on March 28, 2009 at 11:57 AM

My wife and I will be at the local Idaho Tea Party on 15 April but DC is 2000 miles away and the Obama economy does not allow folk to take time off.

And I’m sure this is going to be so much harder to undo than it seems to be to do!!! It is VERY truly scary. I wanted to pass my birthright of freedom–inherited from generations of my ancestors–to my grandchildren… it should be their inheritance… more percious than money.

I look around and I see the beginnings of a managed economy on the order of the old Soviet Union. I am appalled that it has been so easy for them to trash self-government and capitalism so fast. It is happening so FAST!!!
