Glenn Beck: It’s time for a march on Washington

posted at 7:20 pm on March 27, 2009 by Allahpundit
Share on Facebook | printer-friendly

He’s playing this off like he’s just tossing out the idea, but come on: Anyone not think he’s at least toying with the possibility of planning a mass protest himself? His Oprah-fied populism is a huge hit; why not take it to the next level and see how many people he can pull into the streets for a march? He could even get this guy to don his cravat and lead the parade. It won’t do much to scare Congress so long as The One’s approval rating is high, but it might be a shot in the arm for the GOP. All they need is a date — Tax Day? May Day? — and a few hundred thousand conservatives willing to take a day off and travel a few hundred (or thousand) miles. Exit question: Would you go? Nah, you wouldn’t.

Ha ha. That is the cutest thing about the “I really think this country is spinning out of control” talk.

I’d totally be there.

Of course, I live 12 miles outside of Washington…

JoeAvg on March 27, 2009 at 7:25 PM

The thing about the Boston Tea Party was that something was actually tossed overboard. Tea in that case. We need to toss something overboard. How about the UAW and the Teamsters? Buy a non-UAW car made in America by Americans. Use FedEx instead of UPS. We have to do something besides just “protest”. We need to stop patronizing the key interests of those idiots. The people who support them should not get our support.

crosspatch on March 27, 2009 at 7:27 PM

Awesome! I’ve been waiting for one of the loud voices of the conservative movement to lead with the battle cry. I’ll be there.

We need to get all the conservative heroes to coordinate, and it will undoubtedly be huge. Rush, Levin, Hannity, Savage, Malkin, Coulter, Ingraham, etc.

ErinF on March 27, 2009 at 7:28 PM

I can see it now, Michelle and some guy with a bag over his head (AP) live blogging the march. C-ya there AP!!!

Whatever the motivation, this is the right approach to counter the filthy liar and the RINOs who shrink when the concept of “failure” is put forward by real Americans.

The Congress of the United States has failed to stop the filthy liar’s statism. The MSM loves the filthy liar. Far too many “Republicans” attack anybody who stands up to the filthy liar and his statism. The time for action is now! Beck has it right. Rush has it right. Levin has it right.

ErinF on March 27, 2009 at 7:28 PM

I dont think Glenn is in the “circle of trust”. Dont get me wrong, I like Rush, Levin, and a couple others to a smaller degree. But it wont ever happen. Rush, Levin, and Hannity are friends and at times, go on each others shows. But over all, I think they have an ego. Each one would want to be most responsible for ‘making it happen’.
I think maybe we should call them, write them. Ask what they would think about it. Ask them, would they go even though this guy will be there and that guy? Id love to see it. I think it could be very successful. However, to get them all to work together and share the stage would be impossible.
I like Glenn, but I dont think some of them you mentioned care for him much. Dont know if it’s his ratings or what, but Glenn is mostly in his own company. It’s sad when I dont think we could get some of the strongest conservative talkers to come together due to ego. Id like to be proven wrong, but…..I wont be.

bucsox79 on March 27, 2009 at 7:39 PM

Would you go? Nah, you wouldn’t.

Pfffft. We already have the reason. We just need someone to lead this movement and name the time and place. I bet the turnout would be massive.

Niere on March 27, 2009 at 7:39 PM

If the focus is on local protests done on the same day, the turnout will be much greater than a Washington march. I can take a half day off work and head to Hartford but not 2 days to head to Washington.

And yes, Beck strikes a nerve because he is so disarmingly honest.

Bachmann Hearkens To American Revolution, Calls On People To “Rise Up”

She should be on his show but the House should vote on her proposal to get them on record.

Protesting the greedy capitalism in good times and socialism for their greed in bad is good protest.

Gee, which to choose? I’ll take Door #4: a conservative who doesn’t get swept up in tides of populist passion, who thinks Obama sucks big time, & who is more interested in unseating incumbent politicians than in attending frothy marches.

OhioCoastie on March 27, 2009 at 7:41 PM

Cinday Blackburn on March 27, 2009 at 7:30 PM

I agree. I think out of all of them, Glenn seems to be the most genuine. He seems to be the one doing all this, saying all this….because he actually believes in it. I see a real sense of honesty and compassion for all this in Glenn that I dont always see so much in the others. Too bad for him, because he has no become a target of the liberal media. I hope he has a tough spine and a lot of good fight in him to counter. He is in for a rough road ahead as far as the attacks. They will continue and they will be stepped up.

bucsox79 on March 27, 2009 at 7:43 PM

Exit question: Would you go? Nah, you wouldn’t.

I wouldn’t go because I no longer believe the politicians are paying any attention.

Conservatives might get fired up, but we’re a ‘law and order’ type fired up. No one is going to be worried that they’d better listen to us or something bad might happen. We could have 2 million protesters in D.C. on a day when Obama signs a bill saying that he now owns our first born children and the majority of us would say, “Well, as soon as I get home, I’ll write my congressman about how this is unconstitutional.”

The Founding Fathers risked the loss of their reputations, their jobs, their homes and even their lives because they strongly believed in their cause.

Most of us (myself included) are like lobsters in a pot. We might initially think, “This is the worst thing ever and I won’t stand for it!” but, eventually it becomes the status quo and you don’t really notice it much any more. Besides, living with increased taxes, regulations, red tape, oversight, etc beats not living at all.

Oh man, one of the most embarrassing things about the Democrats is the protesting. They essentially lost the White House for a generation (if you don’t count the Carter blip) thank to idiot hippies protesting the Vietnam War.

Then, as the Iraq War plan developed, liberals marched with a fury! With puppets! And they protested…well, they kinda protested everything. It looked pretty stupid. When I lived near DC my girlfriend at the time and I used to go to watch the protests and laugh at them.

So…you dudes want to copy this?

Proud Rino on March 27, 2009 at 7:46 PM

ErinF on March 27, 2009 at 7:28 PM

Well, I would add Goldberg and Steyn to that list and eliminate Hannity, Savage, and Coulter.

But, I’ve been saying this since the election. These top notch conservatives with the name recognition need to get off their duffs and start leading these sorts of things. I think people would respond in huge numbers across the land. But, the key is, they have to believe these guys are serious. No half way measures! If they say follow us into the valley of darkness, then they better be willing to go the distance.

Dave R. on March 27, 2009 at 7:57 PM

What is he protesting?

He’s all mad because the “Obama Administration” released 17 Chinese Muslims from Gitmo in the United States…of course – “Obama” didn’t do that, a federal judge ordered it.

And here’s what happened – they were cleared for release by the U.S. Military in 2004, but China nor any other country would take them. Since we had imprisoned people that we actually knew were innocent for 5 years and no one else would take them, we had 3 options: We could either leave them on their own, which is certain death, keep in the in Gitmo forever, which is illegal, or let them stay here.

Some of our problems are so much more difficult when you actually learn about them; thankfully Glenn Beck doesn’t seem too concerned about that.

Proud Rino on March 27, 2009 at 7:58 PM

Yes we are “Lobsters”, yes we are law and order, and yes the pols are not paying attention so voting them out is absolutely necessary. For all of these reasons the time is coming for everyone (including us) to know just how big the silent majority is. Nationwide marches with a huge emphasis on Washington is the first step to taking this county back.

Rush, Sean, and Levin have been taking about the tea parties. If they can be convinced one massive conservative showing could be realized, they will put their egos all in.

lol. come on, G…screen shots don’t do most people any favors…Beck is in a class by himself, he’s actually quite funny in an off-the-cuff way and there’s no one in television right now that has his passion and energy…don’t his ratings prove that?

Beck’s connecting with the American public right now like it or not…with that said I don’t think Glenn would do this (mass WA protest)–he’s way too busy with the radio and TV show and family. I believe he wants to ignite a fire under some-soon-to-be conservative hero’s ass, but if Beck did organize such a thing, I’d have to take that Amtrak to DC.

Bachmann Hearkens To American Revolution, Calls On People To “Rise Up”

correct me if i’m wrong, but the revolution was against taxation without representation. she’s a representative for chrissakes. she is completely clueless about what ‘global reserve currency’ means, so she’s pushing this nonsense about the dollar being replaced in America. she’s talking about being on the frontlines like she’s fighting a mortal enemy in congress, and keeps calling for armed revolt, which borders sedition. will nothing embarrass republicans?

sesquipedalian on March 27, 2009 at 8:10 PM

AubieJon on March 27, 2009 at 7:54 PM

When you look around the party, do you honestly see a large amount of people that are willing to fight and even die for the cause?

The majority of people I’ve seen don’t care about politics unless a Presidential address interrupts their t.v. The people I know that do care read a lot of blogs and write a lot of letters and place a lot of calls to congress but they’re not fighters.

Perhaps if there were inspiring leaders at the forefront of the movement, they would do more. I’m sure not every soldier in the Continental Army was a Samuel Adam’s type revolutionary but they were inspired by the words and DEEDS of him and others. I’ve yet to see anyone at the head of the party now that seems to have a plan beyond “write and call and wave signs” which has proven so effective recently…

I keep thinking people will reach a breaking point, but, if I’m honest, it seems that point should have come a long time ago and it didn’t. The last century was one giant creep of socialism and government over reach and, instead of getting rid of it, we got used to it bit by bit until now we are literally at the point where people appointed by our leaders are asking Congress to grant them the authority to seize private businesses.

I’m sure that won’t pass, but, it will make something else look so much less harsh in comparison and we’ll end up feeling as if we’ve won the battle when in fact all we’ve done is submitted to incrementally more government.

I might well go for myself however. I don’t need to be lead by TV personalities.

Sorry, beck wears a permanent tin foil hat with a new conspiracy everyday.

Too unhinged for CNN but a perfect fit for Fox.

It speaks volumes for the beckers who watch him.

Going to hop on the AMTRAK(since, thanks to o, it’s fully funded)which drops me about a block back of the Capitol and go from there. Even better, go down couple days before and stay near downtown and see the sites before and afterwards. Take one of my teeny bopper grand kids and let them see Democracy in action (I hope!)plus DC. Should be fun. Let’s DO IT!

jeanie on March 27, 2009 at 8:11 PM

Not a Beck fan but I am up for a march.

Sombody needs to remind the idiots that the people that actually love the US are pissed.

I’d contribute $$ to a fund to bring over Daniel Hannan!

Bring over Hannan for a Boston Tea Party!

How great would that be…a Brit speaking out against taxation at The Boston Tea Party redux

JadeNYU:

I read a biography of John Adams some time back and in it he was quoted as saying that colonial Americans were divided into thirds: one third tory, one third timid and one third true blue.

As for marches, there are a lot of people who will vote the way you might want them to, but they will not march. That is just not something they would do.

Terrye on March 27, 2009 at 8:13 PM

correct me if i’m wrong, but the revolution was against taxation without representation. she’s a representative for chrissakes. she is completely clueless about what ‘global reserve currency’ means, so she’s pushing this nonsense about the dollar being replaced in America. she’s talking about being on the frontlines like she’s fighting a mortal enemy in congress, and keeps calling for armed revolt, which borders sedition. will nothing embarrass republicans?

sesquipedalian on March 27, 2009 at 8:10 PM

She spewed it on Hannity’s radio show and the dems will attack. Perhaps bring her proposal to the floor for a vote. She wanted to let Americans know where they stand. Lets get them on record if they support a revolution.

Crawl back in your hole AP. Early on I saw how many people were willing to drive for HOURS to attend these tea parties, and they weren’t even called tea parties six weeks ago. If Glenn Beck organized a march on DC it would be huge. You’re getting kind of tiresome Allahpundit; All you do is toss out contradicting opinions about conservatives.

Beck is saner than Olberman or Rosie or Micheal Moore or Chris Matthews for that matter. After 8 years of hysterical eye ball popping ranting from the left, nothing I hear from the right much bothers me. It pales in comparison in terms of just plain bat sh*t crazy.

Terrye on March 27, 2009 at 8:15 PM

Hell *yes* I’ll go.

Maybe AP’s trying to stir up some support for it with a little passive-aggresive reverse psychology… ;)

It’s not surprising that the idea, for gutless wonders, of taking a stand on anything somehow equates to dying. Go back to reading Obama’s books like a good little girl.

AubieJon on March 27, 2009 at 8:16 PM

Gee, which to choose? I’ll take Door #4: a conservative who doesn’t get swept up in tides of populist passion, who thinks Obama sucks big time, & who is more interested in unseating incumbent politicians than in attending frothy marches.

OhioCoastie

The only one capable of doing that is YOU.

Dr. Dog on March 27, 2009 at 8:16 PM

Are you kidding me? You better believe I’ll go, with my family in tow!! It’s time we have this march and soon!!
