New drama: McCain staffers angry at Palin for saying she didn’t want to pray with them

posted at 5:58 pm on March 26, 2009 by Allahpundit

She said she meant no disrespect by it, but it’s hard to see how: “So I’m looking around for somebody to pray with, I just need maybe a little help, maybe a little extra… And the McCain campaign, love ‘em, you know, they’re a lot of people around me, but nobody I could find that I wanted to hold hands with and pray.” She ended up praying with Piper. Maybe she meant there was no one there with whom she felt close enough to share a moment like that?

Anyway, I’m sure it’s all their fault for feeling insulted.

“We all talked this A.M.,” said one former Palin aide in an e-mail. “This set off a nerve for sure with a lot of people.”

“It’s yet another example of the few staff still loyal to Palin questioning their loyalty and ardent defense of her over the several months since the campaign,” said the aide, who was granted anonymity to speak candidly about campaign colleagues…

“It’s about us people who were on the plane, who showed extreme loyalty to Palin, continually getting thrown under the bus or slapped in the face by her comments, whether she means it or not,” the staffer said, adding that Palin’s remarks “cause you to question not only your loyalty but her judgment as a leader.”

The former aides said they place part of the blame for Palin’s post-campaign candor on the governor’s staff in Alaska. Several have reached out individually to offer advice or assistance to the governor, but “have gotten only pleasantries in response,” said one aide.

No way to tell, obviously, whether the source here is a true Palin loyalist like Randy Scheunemann describing sincerely how his feelings are hurt or an (allegedly) false loyalist like Nicolle Wallace seizing the opportunity to throw a few rotten eggs back the ‘Cuda’s way. Exit question: Did she ever single out Scheuenemann or any other former aide by name for praise to distinguish them from the people who were sniping at her after the election? Maybe this is a case of some loyalists thinking she doesn’t appreciate them when she really does.

Palin is the Republican version of Maxine Waters… some people love her too.

popularpeoplesfront on March 27, 2009 at 12:19 PM

Must have missed it when Palin “gradulated” her alma mater.

cs89 on March 27, 2009 at 12:22 PM

Oops, wrong politician (that was Corrine Brown).

Waters is the one with the banking/ethical trouble.

However his continued tolerance of the obsessive Palin bashing trolls makes me think that he enjoys what they say and how they debase any Palin thread with their childish drivel…

Since Ed has come on, I suspect Allah’s posting numbers have dropped…this is one area that he can build numbers for his posts.
It is getting predictable…Allah is fighting, as we all are, to keep his job, his job is to drive people to post, and this is an easy way to do it.
Ed takes a little tougher track, he actually does some research and some in-depth reporting.
Allah can ride the “Palin train” for a little while longer, then Michelle will catch on and see that his numbers are driven my these “controversial but predicatable” posts.

Waters to Geithner- “Your CEO…”

Geithner- “My CEO?”

Think about it for awhile and get back to me on one of the future Palin threads here on HotAir. We can then find someone to do the trust paperwork, etc.

Ah, so you’re not only a lazy blogger who reposts stuff from months ago that was refuted with facts,

You’re a chickensh*t that won’t stand by your picks.

PUSSY!

The truth is your man Romney is a nice guy, but his best spot is running as the veep for Sarah. That is the best team at the moment.

The key to 2012 is Mitt’s humility. He cannot beat Sarah in a head-to-head, but as an eastern moderate businessman he could help the GOP out assuming that foreign policy is not the need at that time by helping to unite the party.

I just stood up to your bullying and gave you a chance to stand up for yourself and you backdown so quick.

You’re a girlyman who needs to seriously think about what you want to do for the rest of your life.

It’s time to pull the plug on you. You’re bringing the site down. Not with post count, but with poor quality posts.

The more I observe Obama’s minions, sycophants and lap dogs the more I think that they do not hate Sarah Palin for being a female conservative but more so for being a real threat to the Messiah.

If it were a male RINO that was deemed to be the greatest threat to Obama they would hate him as much as they do Sarah Palin.

So many over the years…years ago they had a downtown celebration and large pancake breakfast in South Central L.A.
This was in about 1992/93…she would be there with Mayor Bradley, I was always one of the “pancake cookers”, Mayor was bright, smart, a real gentleman, but Waters was even then, brash, foolish, incredible stupid, yes I said stupid…just full of anger and treated everyone on the line like a servant.
She rode the wave of “hate the (white) man”…

popularpeoplesfront on March 27, 2009 at 12:19 PM

This is good. Maxine Waters is an obscure Democratic party Congresscritter who made recent headlines accusing Geithner of belonging to a secret cabal of banking kleptocrats who are hellbent on some James Bondian plot of total world domination.

She is also well known for loudly screaming RACISM whenever the Bush administration proposed increased oversight of the dicey mortgage-backed securities market. She also received nice little campaign contributions from Fannie Mae for all her trouble.

How does Maxine Waters have anything to do with Sarah Palin? I missed when Maxine Waters gave a memorable speech to the Democratic convention. Hell, even Marsha Blackburn has more political clout than Maxine Waters. When was the last time Maxine Waters was invited to help a candidate get elected in a tight runoff competition? Fundraising efforts?

Despite how cheesy this video is with its repeatedly calling her a “maverick” and tying her to John McCain, the Gov. of Alaska has a compelling biography and is the most astute retail politician of her time.

Obama is a Chicago pol. He needed a sycophantic apparatchik press to sell him to the public and gloss over his crooked associates, poor judgment and questionable ethics. Sarah Palin is a real, genuine threat to Obama, and they know it.

Caribou Barbie should pray that she doesn’t say stupid things like the following

“As Putin rears his head and comes into the air space of the United States of America, where– where do they go? It’s Alaska. It’s just right over the border.”

Thank you. Amen.

Maybe she meant there was no one there with whom she felt close enough to share a moment like that?

based on this quote it is hard to find an insult

I discuss the Bible with many people especially strangers based upon the trend of the conversation and their body language indicating they are interested. Often we share a few words of praise to God, as in, ‘thanks to God for his mercy’, or ‘I am optimistic because God is in charge’ or I suggest the value of the Bible to them relating passages that bring me joy.

Yet I would not normally seek a prayer mate from a group of folks I deal with daily, unless that person had shared a full willingness to talk about the Bible in a way that made me comfortable. When I pray, I am praying in agreement, and it could be awkward if someone interjected words I would never agree upon. I would have to advise the other I cannot agree to the words. For instance, people who read Jesus differently than I. For instance, Dear Jesus, I know you would never stand against stem cell research because you wish to save the little children….

To pray together means we share a common message to God. It doesn’t mean the people I do not pray with are not good enough, it means my words to God have to be true to my beliefs.

People as arrogant and full of self importance as this guy don’t require reinforcing. I made a comment earlier today and it apparently offended him and his ancestors enough to drive him to make irrational assumptions. If he wants to debate a topic, he should debate instead of telling someone he doesn’t agree with to get lost, especially on a forum devoted to discussion.

AubieJon on March 27, 2009 at 2:57 PM

Have you noticed that most of these trolls read from the same playbook that says that history is static, that personal improvement is impossible and that political viewpoints remained fixed in time.

Thus Sarah’s warning of Putin rearing his head will never come to pass, that Sarah, who has already been through the rigors of a national campaign, is incapable of political self-improvement or self-development, and that all of 52.9% of Obama’ voters are members of his cult and would never consider voting for anybody else.

Ya know, people really need to get a life. The entire focus and point of the story was PIPER, and it was pretty cute and got a big laugh. For those who didn’t actually see/hear it, Palin asked Piper to pray that God would help her in the debate and that He would speak through her. To which Piper responded, “but Mom, that’d be cheating!” The mention of the McCain staffers and not being able to find anyone she wanted to hold hands with and pray at that moment was just a minor aside.

unwashed minion on March 27, 2009 at 3:46 PM

Congrats!! You win “dumbest post of the thread award”!!!

Golly, I could never beat yours, skippy!

I never said you shouldnt pray as a group. What I said was that if she needed to say a little prayer, she could find a quiet, solitary spot and bow her head and say a prayer. There isnt a requirement for her to find somebody to hold hands with like she implied.

And the most retarded thing was she impugned everybody on the campaign saying there wasnt anybody there she was comfortable praying with.

The Wall on March 27, 2009 at 1:13 AM

You called her a nutcase for wanting someone to pray with someone. You said it, not me. You own it. Accusing others of stupidity won’t change that.

And how is it impugning someone to say you didn’t feel comfortable praying with that person? I can think of so many reasons why you might not pray with someone.

a) Didn’t feel close to him
b) Didn’t trust him
c) He was busy
d) He never talked about his faith
e) He was a known atheist/agnostic
f) He didn’t seem approachable

The list could go on.

Let’s face it, it takes a jerk to level this sort of attack, “nutcase” and all. But that’s fine with you, because it’s just another excuse to bash her.

On the plus side, you’re starting to make Poptech look good by comparison ….

I love this … over 600 comments in a Palin thread – and if you look at the rest of HotAir – you can see the other Palin threads dominate this board also – I mean … an average topic gets maybe 200 comments and Sarah routinely triples that here.

Add to the fact that attacks against her are stepping up and the presence of all these trolls here – and you can see the left is completely crapping their panties that they might have to face the ‘cuda in 2012. Don’t believe them … if they really thought she was stupid they’d be only too happy for us to nominate her. Their presence and attention here proves their real fear of her.

You’ve got to be kidding! Sarah’s kids got a once in a lifetime chance to travel the USA, meet fellow American citizens of all backgrounds, and be a part of a history making campaign. Any one of us should be so lucky! Kids take off from school all the time for family trips and other events. Lessons can be made up you know.

You just look for any reason to criticize Sarah. If she had left her kids in Alaska or dressed them down, she would have been criticized for that.

The Obamas also dressed their kids fancy and took them around to rallies and campaign events. I would it find very creepy and troubling if a politician had a family and either shunned them or hid them away while they were out campaigning.
