This Act may be cited as the `Congressional Commission on Civic Service Act’.

SEC. 4. DUTIES.

(b) Specific Topics- In carrying out its general purpose under subsection (a), the Commission shall address and analyze the following specific topics:

(6) Whether a workable, fair, and reasonable mandatory service requirement for all able young people could be developed, and how such a requirement could be implemented in a manner that would strengthen the social fabric of the Nation and overcome civic challenges by bringing together people from diverse economic, ethnic, and educational backgrounds.

As tongue-in-cheek, this is quite amusing. Suppose we consider a more realistic scenario, though, like being compelled to work for ACORN to “register” new voters. We have an all-volunteer military now, but we are seriously discussing the possibility of a civilian force “as large and as well-funded” as that military force, BUT only the civilian service will be mandatory. If we can’t imagine compelling our youth to serve in the military, how, for the love of Pete, can we justify compelling them to serve in some White House youth corps?

It’s being forced to give up your services/time/labor to others for no compensation, and to no benefit. This, IMHO, would fall under the 13th amendment as being illegal, since it’s not military service, and there is no declared war going on.

School is required because education benefits both the individual and our country. The individual is compensated for their time by being educated.

I was forced to give my time and labor to learning the quadratic equation. I can say with great certainty that it did not benefit me, nor did it benefit the country. I was not compensated for my time in any sense; all I know is that there is something called “The Quadratic Equation” and I didn’t understand it very well (also, I’m pretty sure there was a 4 in it).

Further, “volunteering” could benefit both the individual and our country.

The 13th Amendment argument – yes. Making kids answer phones at a battered women’s shelter for a few hours is the exact same thing as forcing people to pick cotton for every day of their lives, selling their children to other people, whipping them periodically, not allowing them an education, etc.

About the only thing you said in your post that was even remotely true is that AJ is NUTTY!

Anyone that believes 9-11 was an “inside job” is not only a nut but should be ridiculed and spit on. In our favor is that the Obama mob is largely do-less and lazy. If they are unwilling to WORK for their own food, they won’t be willing to risk their own lives defending the Empire of O.

If it came down to revolt over the government flagrantly violating the Constitution and our rights, would the military side with the government? I think enough would refuse that any attempt at an O-tatorship crackdown wouldn’t be done by the regular military for fear of whole divisions switching sides. After all, every soldier in the military ALSO took an oath to preserver, protect, and defend the Constitution. And many more of them MEAN it than do Washington politicians.

This is why Obama is obsessed with creating his “civilian” defense corps, which would end up being a storm trooper outfit made up of true believers (“Obama Youths”) who probably came through one of these “involuntary volunteer” service programs.

Obama is showing every sign of trying to subvert our institutions for his own perpetual power and aggrandizement. And he’s doing it rapidly. Problem is to get to where he wants to go is going to require a lot more time (at least a generation) than he has as President.

Which is why I look for there to be a 22nd Amendment showdown 6 years from now if we don’t send as much of his congress packing as we can in 2010 and send him packing in 2012.

Assuming, of course, the 2012 election isn’t intentionally orchestrated to come out like the Minnesota senate race… Which is my prediction.
