Video: Are you ready for President Steele?

posted at 8:05 pm on March 25, 2009 by Allahpundit

Don’t laugh. Come 2016, that Democratic field’s going to be wide open.

No, I kid. But I would like to know how a guy who’s now even more suspect on abortion than Mitt Romney plans to rally the Republican base to his side in a primary. His answer, presumably: The base didn’t prevent Maverick! from being nominated last year, did it? In which case, touche. Exit question: Never mind his presidential ambitions. Does he seriously expect us to believe his bumbling answer on D.L. Hughley about Limbaugh’s show being “ugly” was a deliberate, strategic provocation? Come on, buddy. Lie to me if you must, but don’t insult me. Click the image to watch.

THow am I going to sleep tonight thinking about Steele/McCain without waking up in a cold sweat? My Gawd!

chunderroad on March 25, 2009 at 11:12 PM

Not going to happen…..ever. If I have anything to say, along my fellow Conservatives….. never. Steele is a Rino.

MNDavenotPC on March 25, 2009 at 11:54 PM

Hey, I’ve got an idea! Why don’t Republicans spend all their time attacking other Republicans instead of criticizing Democrats! I don’t know why we didn’t think of this before!
JohnJ on March 25, 2009 at 8:44 PM

Its like Christmas every day, isn’t it? :D

count your blessings.

If most everyone adopts socially liberal positions they will eventually (actually quite rapidly) adopt liberal positions on fiscal matters and foreign policy issues also.
aengus on March 25, 2009 at 10:19 PM

If someone can be convinced that Christianity is the greatest threat facing America today, he can be convinced of literally ANYTHING.

Liberaltarians claim to agree with liberals on social issues and defense – that’s two out of three. But think about it: when’s the last time you heard them go to the Democrats and offer their infinitely valuable support if only liberals would just give up that silly little Socialism bugaboo of theirs? Not once; ever. That’s because they know perfectly well who their real target is.

Liberaltarians are essential just barking moonbats who’ve been cursed with an understanding of remedial arithmetic. The reason they know they can never fit in with liberals is not in spite of their similarity, but because of it. They all share a common fundamental personality trait: the absolute inability to compromise.

That’s why liberals and liberaltarians both go after conservatives like sharks smelling blood. And that’s why they attack with equal vehemence.

logis on March 26, 2009 at 12:48 AM

“So if I do something, there’s a reason for it… It may look like a mistake, a gaffe. There is a rationale, there is a logic behind it,” he said. “I want to see what the landscape looks like. I want to see who yells the loudest. I want to know who says they’re with me but really isn’t.”

I sure like Steele more than our President, but that was too funny! Quote of the Day.

Gohawgs on March 26, 2009 at 1:36 AM

Looks like we have another “Progressive” Republican being a useful idiot to a media salivating over Republican infighting.

The man is the wrong choice for RNC Chairman, that is if the RP wants to keep its base intact. If not, then he is the guy.

That’s why liberals and liberaltarians both go after conservatives like sharks smelling blood. And that’s why they attack with equal vehemence.

logis on March 26, 2009 at 12:48 AM

You are absolutely correct! And that is why there is so much confusion over some of the comments of Allahpundit. He is a libertarian, not a conservative.

McCain got the nomination because he was the least offensive candidate, which only confirms the vague direction the Republican Party has taken in the last year. Steele is not even settling for the middle; he’s bouncing back and forth between both sides, on the one issue that is dear to the heart of the conservative base. Neo-cons and other “country club” conservatives do not understand this alleged obsession with abortion. They’re too busy crying over selling their yachts to make ends meet to consider, that without the right to life, the other rights don’t matter.

Steele knows he has to unite the party, but the membership is divided over this issue. So he panics. We learned about panicking in the Boy Scouts. It’s the first thing some people do when they’re lost in the woods.

manwithblackhat on March 26, 2009 at 7:16 AM

Now this is not a good idea. I supported Steele, but since he became RNC chair, he hasnt done as much as I thought he would do. He needs to realize that we cant give in to the pro-choice crowd and that true conservatives are pro-life.

He seems to not be able to keep his face off TV and he cant keep his mouth shut. Every time he opens his mouth, he says something totally inappropriate. Steel needs to focus on the midterms and getting more Republicans elected.

becki51758 on March 26, 2009 at 7:54 AM

I say screw the base with their ‘my way or the highway’ litmus test stances.

Go start the pro-life party if it is the single most important issue for you in every political figure you would ever consider voting for.

I blame the litmus testers failure to show up at the polls for the Obamonkeys victory.

The litmus testers are traitors. Screw ‘em!

Mr Purple on March 26, 2009 at 7:58 AM

In order
1. Palin
2. Sanford
3. Romney
4. Daniels
5. Jindal

NOT: Huckabee

lavell12 on March 26, 2009 at 8:10 AM

What drugs is he on? No f’n way.

johnnyU on March 26, 2009 at 8:45 AM

With Steele, its all about the cringe factor. Name another GOP politician who provokes more cringes in less time than the Chairman.

james23 on March 26, 2009 at 8:50 AM

Are the Republicans going for Democrat 2.0? I am an Independent and apparently more Conservative then both Steele and Meghan McCain…to be fair to Meghan, I don’t really think she has a political philosophy, she is just trying to get onto a reality TV show…auditioning. Branding Republicans Democrat Lite, leaves people like me with Ron Paul? or I can just abstain from voting like a bunch of Conservatives did last Nov in Protest.

Dr Evil on March 26, 2009 at 9:02 AM

That’s not going to happen, Steele.

the_moll on March 26, 2009 at 9:05 AM

Isn’t Steele already under the bus at this point?

(He should be).

Thaddeus McCotter for President 2012

The Race Card on March 25, 2009 at 10:56 PM

Oh, but I do speak that way which happens in my opinion to be the truth and I reserve my first amendment right to express my opinion and the truth as I see it.

But if others can’t dispute the facts, they call names and play The Race Card. You are entitled to play it, however poorly it may be played.

Everything is not all about you and if you were offended then look inward not outward. I don’t give others such power over my life, liberty, or happiness.

logis – That was spot on and very well thought out.

DUMP STEEL! (But not the US market.)

Western_Civ on March 26, 2009 at 10:08 AM

Which party are we talking about him running in?

whitetop on March 26, 2009 at 10:10 AM

No to Steele.
.
It takes more than one good speech to make a real president, but I’m ready to hear more about McCotter.

darktood on March 26, 2009 at 10:13 AM

I’d like to see a Paul . McCain ticket

Ares on March 26, 2009 at 10:28 AM

My first thought, non-wonk Hulu’d mushy-brain that I am, was that Allahpundit was referring to this. I mean, c’mon, Pierce Brosnan wouldn’t need a teleprompter. How much worse could he be than The One?

Some of you are nodding in agreement. Aren’t you?

Paul_in_NJ on March 26, 2009 at 11:25 AM

Steele’s stock is tracking the market quite well.

spmat on March 26, 2009 at 12:34 PM

There have to be other people who can make it past the RNC barricades

The whole situation is getting sad indeed

It is not republicans destroying each other. It is conservatives being offered only ones who pass the RNC testing program.

Republicans are not that picky, but they are being presented with a very small bucket of fish and called fickle for complaining.

Palin and Romney are the exceptions. Romney bought himself in and the RNC spent all their ammo keeping him out. They blew up Rudi, Fred and Huck to do it, something I now thank them for

McCain brought home stray dog Palin and now the RNC is stuck pretending they don’t hate her

They are trying to build Jindal as a diversion from Palin but he didn’t gain traction.

Steele is playing as well as Jindal. Time to move on but the RNC requires a RINO blood test

Speaking of Hughley, he accused us of making him Chairman so we could say “look, we got one (a black guy) too”. I hope we aren’t as stupid as the other side. Look what that has done to the country.

Steele seemed a lot better before his repeated gaffes. Now, the idea of him representing us on a national level, and being our main guy, is terrifying. Bad enough he’s our behind the scenes guy now.

RightWinged on March 26, 2009 at 4:57 PM

Seriously though, if the GOP wants a future (in the future), they’ll need to abandon the whole abortion angle they’re on. Oh, and the Christian right. They’re only getting to be a smaller voting bloc, get with the program.

Seixon on March 26, 2009 at 6:08 PM

Because we should totally support the murder of innocent babies.

Seriously, if that’s what the Republican party becomes, I hope it loses every single election from here on out. And I most certainly won’t be a part of a political party that thinks it’s okay to ignore infanticide just so it can win elections.

People like you are just so disgusting. How many abortions have you paid for? Lots, probably.

I agree with the other two commenters before me, you are one sick individual. Thank God Lincoln never took such a stand regarding slavery. The future of the party is secondary to the future of the unborn.
I can just here it now, if the union wants to stay intact it better get with the program and support the enslavement of black people.

Hey, all you libertarians, there is a party for you just stand in line behind the winning team of Ross Perot and Ron Paul.

Looks like we have another “Progressive” Republican being a useful idiot to a media salivating over Republican infighting.

Joe Pyne on March 26, 2009 at 2:26 AM

…and who exactly is going to be starting the ‘infighting’?

Michael Steele insulting the ‘litmus testers’ for their stance on abortion (never to be accepted even if your daughter was raped and delivery of the child would threaten her life)…..or is it the ‘litmus testers’ starting the fight by attacking Steele’s abortion views?

Since I haven’t seen Steele starting any infighting I can only conclude it is the ‘litmus testers’ responsible for the infighting.

So go start the ‘No Abortions Ever’ Party and enjoy your 20% showing in the elections. Way to go!
