George Soros: “I’m having a very good crisis”

posted at 8:47 pm on March 25, 2009 by Allahpundit

It’s a comfort to know not everyone’s suffering in this horrible global recession. I guess sometimes the good guys do finish first.

Remember that Jake DeSantis letter to AIG this morning and how sympathetic it made you feel about the plight of our plucky financiers? Prepare to be cleansed.

George Soros, who predicted the global financial crisis twice before, was one of the few people to anticipate and prepare for the current economic collapse…

And while the financial crisis continued to deepen across the globe, the 78-year-old still managed to make $1.1 billion last year.

‘It is, in a way, the culminating point of my life’s work,’ he told national newspaper The Australian.

So saith the man who broke the Bank of England, twirling his new Snidely Whiplash mustache. Exit question one: What’s he going to do with that billion? The left could always use a few more media-watchdog smear sites, I guess. Exit question two: I do a lot of goofing on our more conspiratorial-minded readers — birth-certificate Truthers, NAU believers, Glenn Beck fans, etc — but since the news is slow, I’m going to throw it open in the comments. What dastardly secretive collusion does Soros’s windfall prove? Did he support The One because he knew that his economic plan would further ruin the global economy, enabling a Soros profit? Or did Obama do that for him unbidden, as a solid? I knew Geithner looked shifty!

Update: The obligatory bailout sketch re-post.

Blowback

George gets richer

George Soros

soros fund management $1.1 billion

Needing few introductions, 78-year-old George Soros is yet again among the hedge-fund industry’s top earners – and yet again one of his successful plays last year was a bet against Britain, reminiscent of his uncanny premonition about Black Wednesday in 1992.

This time, Mr Soros made a good part of his $1.1bn by gambling that UK interest rates would fall – an inspired investment decision because most people last summer expected them to go up.

Obama to pay back Sugar Daddy Soros ?

Hedge funds are being offered a sweet deal to help the Obama administration rescue the U.S. banking system: A low-risk opportunity to scoop up soured bank assets that could one day make them a killing.

Unlike mutual and money market funds, hedge funds don’t have to register with the Securities and Exchange Commission. That means they don’t have to disclose such details as who runs the fund, how much money they manage and what securities they buy.

The plan uses cheap government financing to offer would-be buyers of toxic assets the potential for juicy double-digit returns. Taxpayers are left to shoulder most of the risk.

William Amos on March 25, 2009 at 8:58 PM

Look it’s not terribly far fetched to believe that George Soros, the man who bankrolls most everything, probably orchestrates some things behind the scenes.

Many years ago, my college professor, who before being a professor, was directly involved in military intelligence and anti-espionage, swore up and down that Soros was a Soviet agent. This professor provided a lot of convincing evidence.

But since then, it’s my belief that Soros has gone free-agent. He’s a true believer in communism, and I believe he pulls so many left-wing strings, that he’s able to affect so many decision makers that he can create his own windfall for his own ends. Those ends are, of course, the end of capitalism as we know it.

What dastardly secretive collusion does Soros’s windfall prove?

None. He knows that the road to socialism and one-world government goes through financial collapse and he has worked hard to bring this socialist hell to the West. That’s all. He just happens to be a self-hating Westerner who thinks, along with The Precedent, that the West deserves the pain (and even more) – you know, a typical self-hating, anti-Western supporter of the idiot messiah.

I think the answer, at least in Buffett’s case, is that a lot people who make money easily think subconsciously that they don’t deserve it.

As for Soros, if what I’m told is true, the seeds of his wealth and its growth came from the soviets, so it might also lead him to believe he doesn’t deserve it and so the system is unfair. Also, if he is manipulating the system, and he clearly has in the past, that would prove how corrupt the system is. He’s just living out the old line, “the capitalists will sell us the rope we will hang them with.”

John_Locke on March 25, 2009 at 9:14 PM

Alright here’s my fun: Soros was responsible, indirectly, for the huge withdrawal of 500 bil. back in Sept. Paulson was his plant, and with Bernanke, convinced Congress that the only way out was to give the Treasury a butt load of money and new power. Once everything was done, Paulson, who was once the CEO of GS, puts up his boy Geithner for the nom. at the direction of Soros. Obama does what his financier wants, and Geithner gets the post, who is the only one currently there, and who is the only one who had tax problems yet still made it through. Geithner then starts kicking millions of bailout money to various Soros “community organizing” front groups, as payment, and Paulson gets some “gifts” from GS, for the money that is getting shuffled their way. In the meantime, since Geithner is there because of Soros, he does what he’s told to do and begins to create such an instable climate for investment (re. the little dollar drop today), that chaos ensues, allowing for the argument for more power for the Treas. Sec. to be pushed. Now here’s where it gets tricky. While debt is created, currency is devalued, business seized and centrally planned, Soros then tears off the face mask and we come to find out that Soros is really Brittany Spears. He does a little naughty school girl dance, while singing “I’m not that innocent” and kissing John Edwards, with tongue. Whew! Glad that’s off my chest. Thanks, AP.

Some people make money by earning it – including some billionaires.

Soros makes money by bribery and hurting people – that’s totally consistent with how the left thinks about economies.

It’s no surprise to me.

And if we had functioning journalists and an FEC that wasn’t hamstrung by bribed politicians, or a Treasury headed by someone who wasn’t a tax-cheating ideologue, maybe someone would take the MOUNTAIN of evidence already extant about Soros’ manipulation of markets and put the SOB in San Quentin for a couple dozen years.

The man is the financial equivalent of a mad bomber. The fact that no one seriously tries to stop him just shows that, apart from the occasional shining moment, there isn’t a major nation in the world willing to step up to the plate and deal with thugs.

What the heck is wrong with you? Don’t you have any sense at all? Where is your brain?

How can you refer to that thing as a “man”?

JohnJ on March 25, 2009 at 9:21 PM

I like Soros, solely because he makes the wingers heads explode. And that wingers, is PRICELESS.

athensboy on March 25, 2009 at 9:02 PM

You have to live in the same shithole he’s creating, genius.

ddrintn on March 25, 2009 at 9:21 PM

Didn’t Sorors profit quite a bit from 9/11? Hey Dems, that is some fine company you grovel to…

WisCon on March 25, 2009 at 9:20 PM

Haven’t you heard? Liberals only give like 1% or less of their income to charity, like their Dear Leader, who only donated around $10,000 of the 1.2 million he made in a year.

John_Locke on March 25, 2009 at 9:22 PM

But we have to have idiots like athensboy among us, those who don’t know the proper direction to point their pitchforks. Up their own asses would be fine.

ddrintn on March 25, 2009 at 9:22 PM

Good for him.

getalife on March 25, 2009 at 9:19 PM

Wait a sec. You mean being rich is good? Huh. Better write that down, ’cause I’m getting all kinds of mixed signals. Thanks, getalife. Who else is on the “good” rich guy/gal list? Any oil execs.?

Weight of Glory on March 25, 2009 at 9:23 PM

Just a smart investor who saw it coming.

Good for him.

getalife on March 25, 2009 at 9:19 PM

If Rupert Murdoch saw it coming, would you say good for him?

Don’t feel lonely, it has crossed my mind a few times also.

WisCon on March 25, 2009 at 9:20 PM

That’s what government is for, silly.

Weight of Glory on March 25, 2009 at 9:23 PM

Did Soros cause 9/11? Some of the voices in my head say yes, but others say that he was busy personally manipulating the credit markets in order to develop an economic collapse so Osama Ogabe Hussein could win. Confusing. There’s a lot of infomation here.

Does anyone have some crackpot, anonymous sources that could help me out?

swede7 on March 25, 2009 at 9:24 PM

What I don’t understand is how someone like Soros, who is clearly a god among men as far as making money goes, can be a devout liberal/communist.

I also don’t understand how Warren Buffett can think that Obama is a good idea when Buffett makes more money than God…

John_Locke on March 25, 2009 at 9:04 PM

It’s not the money. It’s the power. That’s what the left’s all about, control.
