Red, red meat: Mark Levin on statism and Limbaugh as conservative leader
posted at 6:19 pm on March 24, 2009 by Allahpundit
Via Greg Hengler and Townhall, a crowd-pleasing palate cleanser to mark the release of his new book, which the boss pronounces must-reading. Hopefully success won’t mellow him: I don’t get a chance to listen to his show often but he’s much more subdued here than what I’m used to. Exit question: Imagine this lineup. Beck at 7, O’Reilly at 8, Hannity at 9 … and Levin at 10? They could move Greta’s Sarah Palin/Natalee Holloway hour of power to 11 and push the O’R/Hannity reruns back an hour. You’d watch, admit it.

Long live Mark Levin!!!

I love Levin. He deserves a much bigger audience. Hopefully the book will help in that.

Yes, Levin needs his own show. He is a great soldier for our side.

Levin should be made dictator of the U.S.A. for two years. He’d get us straightened out!

Levin at 10PM?! Hell yeah! I only wish.
Got the book today. We need more Mark Levins in the world. Mark and Rush ate my main guys in radio.

Love Levin. But I don’t understand why everyone mentions that he uses the term “statist” as if it’s his. M-W has it going back to at least ’46. Levin even says “it’s not my term”.
amerpundit on March 24, 2009 at 6:30 PM
Excellent idea Allah!!!!! Levin was on with Hannity last night (the only reason I watched) and I saw the interview this afternoon with Cavuto.
I just finished the book last night and it’s must read.

Ain’t this the truth.
Amazon just confirmed my copy is on its way–a bargain at $13.75.

Philosophically I love Levin. Probably the best conservative thinker out there, and when he isn’t screaming on his radio show he is the best at communicating the founding principles.
A deep deep thinker.
True_King on March 24, 2009 at 6:31 PM
Man, Allah it must frustrate you posting at a site full of extremists.
Levin is just another in a long line of republicans pretending they were never republicans. They are the amazing super patriot ‘conservatives’ that fought Bush for eight years.
The super patriots that didn’t primary or criticize a single one of the republicans that voted with Bush 94% of the time.
60 days after Bush leaves office the TV is full of loud mouth bed wetters claiming Obama is tearing up the constitution.
It is folly to think any of these jokers are helping do anything more than wedge the 23% hard core republicans into a shrinking box.
barkolounger on March 24, 2009 at 6:31 PM
If I was making a movie about The Book of Acts, I’d cast Levin as Saul of Tarsus…
…and I think you all know that would be awesome.

I’ve been listening to Levin since he used to do an hour (more like a 1/2 hour with all the commercials and newsbreaks) a day on WABC in NY. It doesn’t surprise me that now he’s doing three hours a day nationally. Truly a brilliant man. And like Malkin says, his book sounds like a must-read.
DarkKnight3565 on March 24, 2009 at 6:35 PM
You make it sound like a bad thing. Go organize your man bag, AP.
Fletch54 on March 24, 2009 at 6:35 PM

Because despite the chest pounding of the keybored warriors and christian bigots, I refuse to abandon my party and let republicanism die.
The party of Lincoln deserves better, and it’s time moderate republicans stand up to the loudmouths who don’t give a damn about our party, but instead love the sound of their own voice.
barkolounger on March 24, 2009 at 6:38 PM
Hmmm… Well I listen to Levin online all the time. he makes his show available for free and I like that. Very entertaining. He sure doesn’t mince words with anyone I’ve heard him talk to. It’s a little weird to really see him and put the face to voice.
I always assumed that these radio folks were like ugly freaks (hence the term “face for radio”) and that was why they were relegated to the nether regions of radio.
I arrived here this afternoon just after talking another stroll down Olberman watch lane where I treat myself to some painful flogging from time to time like that albino guy in the Davinci Code. This is a nice way to pick myself up.

Best part was Levin educating Cavuto on the difference between the Conservative movement, and the Republican Party…
Its a distinction which needs to be made to more of the media…
Romeo13 on March 24, 2009 at 6:40 PM
Drop O’Reilly and indeed, that would be a mighty fine lineup.

Knucklehead on March 24, 2009 at 6:41 PM
Well barkolounger forgets the years of Bush was behind 9/11, Bush is using the NSA to spy on his political opponents, Bush will not ever leave office and will use the military to take over government, Bush is torturing innocent little tewwowists, Bush is Satan, Bush is a dummie, Bush is a drunk, let’s make a movie about Bush getting shot, let’s make a movie about Bush being an idiot, Bush lied and people died, Bush slaughtered hundreds of thousands of Iraqis for the sheer nasty fun of it…and on and on.
Republicans act like the opposition, which they are and all of a sudden the barkoloungers drag out the old Right Wing Conspiracy nonsense again.
Terrye on March 24, 2009 at 6:41 PM
When is his show even on? We have Glenn Beck, Rush, Hannity, and Ingraham, but no Mark Levin and no Tammy Bruce- who by the way is GREAT, (much better than Laura Ingraham) I know a lot of these personalities are regional, but I hear about Levin all the time.
anniekc on March 24, 2009 at 6:41 PM
No, I would not.
getalife on March 24, 2009 at 6:41 PM
What’s a moderate? Seriously, could you please explain this to me? Just so you know, I’m not a Republican at all, I’ve abandoned them for their huge growth of government during the Bush years.
When you say you don’t republicanism to die, do you mean that you are a federalist and believe in state sovereignty? By republicanism do you mean you want a smaller central government? I assume yes because of your use of the term.
Let me know please.

Yeah, that might be true, but it seems to me that I remember Levin telling conservatives to abandon the party. I bet that broke Obama’s heart.
I am sorry, but I have lost patience with people who spend half their time complaining about Obama and the other half doing nothing to stop him or support his opposition. Republicans are the opposition.

Sweet… fresh meat. I like barkoloungers myself. The point he made about not giving a damn about the party and loving the sound of their own voice is valid.
I contend that any party that abandons the principles that made it great AND won elections deserves its time in the wilderness. The Republican party just had a moderate get his Hanoi Hilton surviving butt handed to him by a rookie senator. I love and respect him as a hero who served with honor, but that doesn’t negate the fact that he LOST.

I know a lot of life long Republicans who did support Bush and still do. It would surprise them to know that they are not the real deal.
BTW, Bush was almost libertarian compared to what we are dealing with now. And I seem to remember that after 9/11, people were demanding the government do more, not less to protect them.

Pro environment (aka CONSERVation)
Pro gay rights (personal freedom)
Pro health care reform (not state run UHC)
Pro Science
Get the religious sh*t out of government.
Stop pretending to be populists while tearing down regulations that protect our children from toxic toys and keep our drinking water clean.
It really isn’t hard to build a governing coalition based on conservative principles if you don’t keep trying to narrow them to pander to one influence group after another.

republicanism? I’m not sure what the overstuffed chair means by this. The word means simply subscribing to a republican form of government, i.e. one where the power resides in the people and is then vested in a group of representatives through democratic vote. Way to go out on a limb there!
trubble on March 24, 2009 at 6:52 PM

They wanted to make sure nothing like that ever happened. Bush was accused of not caring enough. And what is more he won a second term after he did that too, it is not as if people abandoned him for creating the Homeland Security Department.
Terrye on March 24, 2009 at 6:54 PM
I wish also but I think his ratings are still good and given the troubled state of the media, they may not want to mess with a formula that is presently beating their nightly competition. Just my opinion. Go ahead, I’ll give you the last word

It’s quite possible to build a governing coalition without being those things, too. Reagan wasn’t pro-choice, anti-religion in government, or pro-gay marriage. Largest landslide victory in American history.
amerpundit on March 24, 2009 at 6:55 PM
Gee… so sorry folks like me, who have principals and a philosophy try your patience.
You wish to keep this a Binary decision set… when the only decision besides becoming Liberal, is to join the ineffective, or to support those who do NOT support my beliefs.
I’ve worked in elections before… but will not do so for candidates who are not fiscal conservatives. I’ve given money to campaigns before, but will not support a candidate because people like you will only give me a binary choice, and that choice is between Democrat, and democrat Light.
People are PI$$ED, and starting to organize OUTSIDE of your party lines…. if you’ll notice the Tea Party Protests have NOTHING to do with the Republican party…
Things are starting to change… and hopefully we will be able to take our government back from the Fat Cats in Washington, and the MSM… but it sure won’t change by listening to McCain’s Daughter… or McCain… or Steele… who are, IMO, all part of the problem.
Romeo13 on March 24, 2009 at 6:56 PM
That lineup would be great, with one exception: Switch O’Reilly and Hannity. O’Reilly swings with the political wind and his upturned thumb says “go left” right now. So Beck, Hannity, switch to Lost or Dollhouse, then back for Levin. Works for me. It’s a beautiful dream AP, but since Danica McKellar got married the other day I realize all dreams die…

I’m sorry, your list would require me to drop one of my most solid principles…small government. Be as community-minded and altruistic as you care to be with your money, but don’t ask me to give more of my money for your projects. How about the federal government give those issues back to the state instead which will allow everyone to better decide which state they choose to live in.

AP resents all popular right wing voices. Either it is out jealousy, loathing, or just fear, I don’t know. I suspect mostly loathing with just a tint of fear. Now, if I was really cynical, and I mean really cynical, I could float the theory that it is just to bait the waters for the pure purpose of getting clicks.
