Open thread: You know what America needs? More Barack Obama on television
posted at 7:31 pm on March 24, 2009 by Allahpundit
8 p.m. ET across the dial, or try C-SPAN.org if you’re sans TV. Serious question: Why did The One call this presser? Half of it will be esoterica about Geithner’s rescue plan, the other half will be perfunctory outrageous outrage about the AIG bonuses. We can do without more of either. If you’re watching and anxious for annotation entertainment (anno-tainment?), though, there’s an embarrassment of liveblogging riches to choose from. The boss will have something going, as will Ace — with special guest star Iowahawk filling in for Obama’s teleprompter. And in what I think is a first, Greg Gutfeld will be spending his night off sharing his thoughts with Daily Gut readers. Don’t mention Canada in the comments!
While we wait, enjoy the near-epic failure of Organizing for America’s first foray into post-election canvassing. Or laugh along as CNBC cravely caves to leftist criticism by hiring Howard Dean as a contributor and inviting nutroots eminence Arianna Huffington to guest host their morning show. Good work, Jon Stewart.
Update: The TOTUS is ready, baby.

I’m looking forward to the official response from the TOTUS.
nemo239 on March 24, 2009 at 8:59 PM
Barry got a little testy when told he waited a few days to “get angry” about AIG bonuses.
You saw the commie smirk, the smackdown.
Was it the comparison to Cuomo? Do I sense a little feud?
jeff_from_mpls on March 24, 2009 at 8:59 PM
Nah, he wasn’t replaced. TOTUS just has a new look.
oakpack on March 24, 2009 at 8:59 PM

Clinton had a silver tongue. Lead’s about all I’d rate Barry.
Oldnuke on March 24, 2009 at 9:00 PM
Wow, Shep said that he didn’t call on WSJ, Financial Times, or ANY financial news. THAT’s quite telling, isn’t it?!
bryan2369 on March 24, 2009 at 9:00 PM
How does he propose to reduce health care costs?
He keeps saying that, but until he goes after medical malpractice reform, he’s not serious.

Geithner rescue package ‘robbery of the American people’
The US government plan to free beleaguered banks of up to $1 trillion (£690bn) of toxic assets will expose American taxpayers to too much risk, leading economist Joseph Stiglitz has cautioned.
The Nobel Prize-winning economist, speaking a day after the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose by almost 7pc in support of the novel public-private partnership (PPIP), said that the plan is “very flawed” and “amounts to robbery of the American people.”
Professor Stiglitz, speaking at a conference in Hong Kong, said that the US government is essentially using the taxpayer to guarantee the downside risks, namely that these assets will fall further in value, while the upside risks, in terms of future profits, are being handed to private investors such as insurance companies, bond investors and private equity funds.
“Quite frankly, this amounts to robbery of the American people. I don’t think it’s going to work because I think there’ll be a lot of anger about putting the losses so much on the shoulder of the American taxpayer.”

neuquenguy on March 24, 2009 at 9:04 PM
The thing is, Juan is not that bright. I agree with you that he did surprisingly well for a while at trying to be somewhat objective. But with the hypnotoad running at full power, I don’t think Juan has the mental capacity to maintain objectivity for long.

He had on a LOT of make-up on, too. And those purplish-black lips are proof he smokes weed. I used the present tense on purpose.
SouthernGent on March 24, 2009 at 9:08 PM
Here is a fitting analogy. Barack is the typical black father of the $10Trillion deficit child that he will abandon and let the rest of us raise.
What a great political cartoon that would make!!!

BuckeyeSam on March 24, 2009 at 9:11 PM
I hope all these people who are calling Fauxgabe boring and flat realize that he’s doing it for effect. Putting the nation to sleep is his specialty. Just like Dorothy, Scarecrow, Tinman, and Lion trying to cross the deadly poppy field, he’s sprinkling his somnolescent dandruff on the unengaged to make them trundle off to bed early or to Brett Michaels top 20 lists on VH1. He’s borrowing time before we get to his hideaway and stick him and his monkey Axelrod with pitchforks. And you have to admit, he’s incredibly good at being competently boring, with props to the TOTUS factored in.
Western_Civ on March 24, 2009 at 9:11 PM
