Open thread: You know what America needs? More Barack Obama on television

posted at 7:31 pm on March 24, 2009 by Allahpundit
Share on Facebook | printer-friendly

8 p.m. ET across the dial, or try C-SPAN.org if you’re sans TV. Serious question: Why did The One call this presser? Half of it will be esoterica about Geithner’s rescue plan, the other half will be perfunctory outrageous outrage about the AIG bonuses. We can do without more of either. If you’re watching and anxious for annotation entertainment (anno-tainment?), though, there’s an embarrassment of liveblogging riches to choose from. The boss will have something going, as will Ace — with special guest star Iowahawk filling in for Obama’s teleprompter. And in what I think is a first, Greg Gutfeld will be spending his night off sharing his thoughts with Daily Gut readers. Don’t mention Canada in the comments!

While we wait, enjoy the near-epic failure of Organizing for America’s first foray into post-election canvassing. Or laugh along as CNBC cravely caves to leftist criticism by hiring Howard Dean as a contributor and inviting nutroots eminence Arianna Huffington to guest host their morning show. Good work, Jon Stewart.

Update: The TOTUS is ready, baby.

HornetSting, I have a trick question for your cat. Let’s see just how smart this feline is….

Let’s say that your cat is in the 39% tax bracket and my dog (dumb son-of-a-bitch that he is) is in the 28% tax bracket. Let’s also assume that Dear Leader limits all charitable deduction write-offs to 28%. If both your cat and my dog donate $1,000 to Jeremiah Wrights church (I told you I had a dumb-ass dog), how much of a tax write off would they get.

(here comes the trick part)
If your cat is smart enough (which clearly she is) and my dog is lucky enough (the only way this will happen) to actually EARN an additional $1,000, how much does do they pay in taxes on their additional $1,000.

I just asked my dog and he decided to lick his balls. I hope your cat does better.

petefrt on March 24, 2009 at 9:40 PM

It won’t make a difference. He will get his budget, and pretty much everything else. But like I said, it’s hard to take Republicans serious when themselves are responsible for all the out of control spending for 8 years.

Also, the plan to bankrupt America is going just as predicted.

True_King on March 24, 2009 at 9:44 PM

Well gee, getalife, Obama is a millionare. But he is good kind of rich, like Oprah and George Clooney and Warren Buffet and George Soros. etc.

Terrye on March 24, 2009 at 9:46 PM

Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama and his wife Michelle gave $10,772 of the $1.2 million they earned from 2000 through 2004 to charities, or less than 1 percent, according to tax returns for those years released today by his campaign. –> Bloomberg

Guess if you only give 1% it doesn’t really matter…

ProfShadow on March 24, 2009 at 8:45 PM

Obama wants to damage churches. He wants all power. He wants all help for the poor to come from the government. That keeps people from thinking for themselves and makes them have to vote Democrat in order to eat.

TN Mom on March 24, 2009 at 9:51 PM

Hotair has linked two Huff Po pieces tonight. What’s up with that? Leterman says everyone should lay off the teleprompter jokes.

His argument is that Obama would sound like Bush if it weren’t for TOTUS.

While the joke while Bush was in office was that Cheney told him what to say. We know Biden can’t pull that off.

Is this an acknowledgment that Obama is an idiot who must be told what to think like the last President supposedly was?

I see what he has done. That speaks louder than words.

His words were planned and honed to say what he thought would drive his approval numbers up.

When you see what he has done–it is often the complete opposite of what he said. Tonight he added new definitions to words… or he lied. And I couldn’t keep watching.

It is painful to see such a disgraceful charlatan lead where giants have led in the past.

Actually, Obama lies more often than any politician I have seen. I started voting in 1980 and was politically aware during the Carter years. Obama is the biggest liar yet. It is dangerous to the country to listen to what he says and believe anything he says is true.

The biggest, brashest con artist clamoring for the cameras and prime time every week is the Obama. His cohort asses presume that stealing a word grants ownership to alter its application and nullify its original meaning, playing the juvenile opposite game of revisionist newspeak liberally applied.

Yep. What we saw and heard was 60 minutes of a President trying to push his agenda items while evading any question that he could not or did not want to answer. He kept checking his podium for answers that were being sent in to him. He tried to act like he supported troops when just last week he wanted them to pay for their own care. He exaggerated numbers for homeless children, including those living with their grandparents. He also said that the new charitable tax rate would have no effect on donations, which was a dubious statement at best. And finally, all through the Press Conference he followed Troll Rule #1 Always Blame Bush!

Yeah. We paid attentionm. We were not impressed.

You must understand that, in general, conservatives prefer to judge history by the facts (that will happen) and not let it be (pre)-formed by the “talking heads.”

Upstater85 on March 24, 2009 at 10:06 PM

HornetSting, please let me set the record straight. I was taking my cues from Dear Leader who says one thing but means another. I know I said “donating to Wright’s church”, but what I really meant was “Our President is an Idiot”.

Better?

mctowler on March 24, 2009 at 10:06 PM

I wanted to let everyone know that my cat just fired getalife as green job, litter box cleaner level I. He kept putting one hand in the litter box and one hand in his pants and she got offended. She’s filing suit against him. Back to the welfare office for getalife.

HornetSting on March 24, 2009 at 10:06 PM

She’s not placated, mctowler. You’re gonna have to try harder. She is a hard case.

HornetSting on March 24, 2009 at 10:07 PM

There’s a video up on YouTube: The Blackberry Shuffle

RedState asked, Did Rahm and Valerie realize the President was blowing the presser?

Rahm Emanuel and Valerie Jarrett appeared to get a “he’s blowing it” email from someone during tonight’s press conference.

Look at the expression on Valerie’s face.

He pretty much covered his ass while making a bore of himself.

I thought the ass was in full view of the world tonight…

I thought Rahm looked like a sad but hopeful mom when he held a finger to his mouth.

Very informative.

getalife on March 24, 2009 at 10:04 PM

As informative as his view about lobbyists in his administration? As informative as his views on signing statements? As informative as his view about making bills public for five days before signing? Need I go on? Sounds like he’s more dis-infomative than informative. Actually I take that back; he’s only dis-informative when he speaks (read, “reads”).

Haha… Yeah, I think this crude clip explains it all… The missing link to the progressive movement!!!

FeralCat on March 24, 2009 at 9:59 PM

Well the our feral kitten turned out to be a beautiful, affectionate cat… but was much older than we thought… and began getting pregnant… We couldn’t get her fixed because she was PG or nursing constantly! After 4 litters of two kittens each we finally took her to get fixed anyway she was pregnant again! She only lived about 5 years after that, hair ball.

She also is the first cat we’ve had who was litter box illiterate! We couldn’t get rid of her because my daughter loved her so much!!! And my husband and I are too soft. So we picked up cat poop for years!!!! So I’m sort of mixed on FeralCats…

petunia on March 24, 2009 at 10:11 PM

Did anybody even bother to listen to the President?

getalife on March 24, 2009 at 9:47 PM

Thanks for sharing that.

Del Dolemonte on March 24, 2009 at 10:11 PM

Sooooooooooo………..

…….. I just got back from helping coach my son’s little league team play a wonderful game on a beautiful Spring night along the Southern California Coast.

So much fun, running around with a bunch of six and seven year olds, the smell of grass, and the sound of laughter every where………

…….. so, what did I miss?

Oh so now that I am a BHO-basher I am automatically a Booooshite? Yes, that would be a very binary way of looking at things…

I think they will ditch the Teleprompter and the big screens by this time next year and just go with a microchip implant. The electronic equipment is getting way too much press.

sherry on March 24, 2009 at 10:12 PM

Sounds like I’m missing some fun… link please?

jwp1964 on March 24, 2009 at 9:40 Pm

The Peggy Noonan sockpuppet was on fire. I’ll say that. Getalife could take a few lines from her columns.

Like the noblest of leaders, such as Nero, Obama is shifting blame masterfully. It’s like watching Mozart not only compose a symphony, but play all of the instruments himself. While conducting.

The way he’s rushing through his answers shows his sense of urgency at the situation facing the American economy.

That’s not passing the buck. That’s transformative, delegation-based leadership.

Some may question Obama’s show of temper, but to me, it’s evidence of a righteous fire. After all, when Jesus wanted to clear the temple, He didn’t meekly ask for the money lenders to leave. He took charge, wove a whip and started overturning tables. Obama’s seeming testiness is simply a slightly toned down anger of the gods.

I’m ready to turn in my column for tomorrow. How’s this for a lead? ‘As I travel from my townhouse in Virginia to my beach house in Nantucket, I sense an unease plaguing the American people. A malaise, if you will. Last night, the president’s steely gaze and direct, simple solutions to this country’s problems cut through that ill-will and helped reassure the bleating masses, showing them someone was in charge.”

Yes, but its Big-Screen TV…..or….BSTV for short.

You know, petunia, I can’t help myself.
Has your cat gone to the welfare office to get food stamps and housing assistance yet?
This sounds like what’s happening in south Texas.
