Open thread: You know what America needs? More Barack Obama on television

posted at 7:31 pm on March 24, 2009 by Allahpundit

8 p.m. ET across the dial, or try C-SPAN.org if you’re sans TV. Serious question: Why did The One call this presser? Half of it will be esoterica about Geithner’s rescue plan, the other half will be perfunctory outrageous outrage about the AIG bonuses. We can do without more of either. If you’re watching and anxious for annotation entertainment (anno-tainment?), though, there’s an embarrassment of liveblogging riches to choose from. The boss will have something going, as will Ace — with special guest star Iowahawk filling in for Obama’s teleprompter. And in what I think is a first, Greg Gutfeld will be spending his night off sharing his thoughts with Daily Gut readers. Don’t mention Canada in the comments!

While we wait, enjoy the near-epic failure of Organizing for America’s first foray into post-election canvassing. Or laugh along as CNBC cravely caves to leftist criticism by hiring Howard Dean as a contributor and inviting nutroots eminence Arianna Huffington to guest host their morning show. Good work, Jon Stewart.

Update: The TOTUS is ready, baby.

This guy’s teleprompter is a worse addiction for him than a “crack”berry or an iPhone.

bluelightbrigade on March 25, 2009 at 8:13 AM

I agree with you. Why do you think that?

Upstater85 on March 24, 2009 at 11:20 PM

Reminds me of someone I once knew….

I think he/she is one or more people. They’re called astroturfers. They’re fake grass roots people paid for by whatever organization wants to criticize their enemies and drum up support for their cause.

Probably some dem (or group of dems) posting under that name and a few others.

Daggett on March 24, 2009 at 11:19 PM

Interesting idea…that never occured to me.

ladyingray on March 25, 2009 at 8:24 AM

Someone told me that the Prez said on tv that the stimulus package was giving money to some glass factory. Reckon they might be a Unionized company?

fullogas on March 25, 2009 at 12:48 AM

The one he’s giving money to? Possibly, but the local glass plant isn’t getting stimulated.

ladyingray on March 25, 2009 at 8:25 AM

CNBC hired Howard Dean and Arianna Huffington???!!!! NBC has dropped all attempts at hiding their agenda. The good news is that 4 people will watch.

marklmail on March 25, 2009 at 8:28 AM

I’ve got an idea Mr. President: Go home and do some work. Quit bowling and giggling on 60 minutes and being cheesy on Leno and get to work. And quit interrupting our programs for your redundant speeches on the economy. Special newscasts should be reserved for State of the Nation type stuff. We already had one of those. Enough already! Quit campaigning and get to work!

scalleywag on March 25, 2009 at 8:43 AM

Does anyone find it ironic that he emphasizes the need to “stay the course”?

JohnJ on March 25, 2009 at 8:49 AM

“Stay the course” appears to mean “continue down the campaign trail.”

scalleywag on March 25, 2009 at 9:01 AM

The Cylons may have had a plan, but Moore did not….

sven10077 on March 25, 2009 at 7:44 AM

It’s a lousy episode, but if the montage of evolving modern-day robots had ended with a sinister fade to black on Obama’s teleprompter, it would have been one of the best TV shows ever.

+1, although there’s also a lot to be said for keeping someone like Obama where you can see him.

“Stay the course” appears to mean “continue down the campaign trail.”

scalleywag on March 25, 2009 at 9:01 AM

It’s a fine example of fascism, 21st-century liberal style: eating up ten million dollars’ worth of TV time to sell the people on a program they can’t possibly stop.

Anybody count how many times he said “We (I) inherited this”

Awilson on March 25, 2009 at 9:25 AM

He did not inherit the mess he has created with all his podium thumping and fear mongering that has caused banks and investors to be frightened and stop lending. He created the fear among the manufacturers that they would be taxed to death and they stopped producing. He caused the unemployment with his crisis talk that is endless. He created a lack of confidence in this leadership with his multiple guest appearances and constant flights on Air Force One. Most of the current mess is all on him and the idiots he has working for him. He has also created all of the mess by not stopping Pelosi and a leftist agenda.

He can take credit for all of the mess.

Obama continues to vote present.

Awilson on March 25, 2009 at 9:25 AM

He didn’t “inherit” anything. He actively campaigned to receive all of the problems he faces now.

Laugh of the day: I heard a talking head from the Brookings Institution on the radio this morning talking about Dear Leader’s speech. Predictably, he praised it.

However, at the end, he let out a howler-he was greatly surprised that the questions weren’t “tougher”.

Del Dolemonte on March 25, 2009 at 9:41 AM

Anyone notice the question on Israel which claimed, wrongly, that the new Israeli government didn’t favor the “two-state solution” and that that it’s the only obstacle to peace? HAMAS with its openly genocidal Islamic rhetoric was conspicuously not mentioned at all. It was the most fair and balanced question on Judaism since Goebbels was in the newspaper business.

64 days and no attacks…

Like the drunk who has fallen off a tall building, heard to say as he passed each floor, “so far, so good”.

kayo on March 25, 2009 at 10:02 AM

I think we all know that he didn’t inherit what he has wrought. But it bears repeating that he will try to claim that all of the country’s problems are ones he inherited. On January 20, of this year I broadcast a message to all of my children and friends. The message was “Today we begin a new error in American government.”

The bad part is the current bear market rally will let him get away with things for a while longer – but not too much longer.

Awilson on March 25, 2009 at 10:07 AM

We inherited this = above my pay grade.

Now the equation is equal on both sides.

anybody have any knowledge of how to hack a teleprompter?

His first accomplishment was saving the economy. His budget will give us long term growth.

We are headed in the right diection.

getalife on March 25, 2009 at 10:51 AM

Here’s the entire softball game.

This is the question I mentioned.

Q: Mr. President, you came to office pledging to work for peace between Israel and the Palestinians. How realistic do you think those hopes are now, given the likelihood of a prime minister who is not fully signed up to a two-state solution and a foreign minister who has been accused of insulting Arabs?

And killed Jesus!

It’s virtually impossible to parody media bias any more.

Beagle on March 25, 2009 at 10:54 AM

I’m sick of smug-face. I want him to disappear.

ErinF on March 25, 2009 at 11:12 AM

Why don’t the transcripts of President Obama’s speech include his use of dialect and slurring? The press made a point of emphasizing Palin’s manner of speech.

How much longer must I hear ‘ta’ instead of ‘to’ and ‘gonna’ instead of ‘going to’ and never see it reported that way??

(That’s one nit down, many to go…)

Good news all! I checked the television schedule for tonight and Obama isn’t on it!

ladyingray on March 25, 2009 at 12:48 PM

One of the great things about HA and Michelle’s site is the open thread during this type of speech. It’s much more calming to pan down the threads to see what he said (in your perspective) than to have to listen to the speech itself. Thanks for the great comments all!

I watched this on the Spanish channel, this guy makes MUCH more sense when I have no idea what it is he’s saying.

Did you check the Cartoon Network Listings?

He’s going to appear on Sponge Bob to give money to the Sponge Community.

I just ADORE that halo photo.

Really.

VERY flattering.

Teleprompter of the United States

Looks like someone’s trying to delete the Wiki page again.

Pope John Paul II used to have the motto “Totus tuus”, which is Latin for “all yours”, addressed to the Virgin Mary.

For “Pope” Messiah Hussein the First, it’s “Totus TOTUS”–the Teleprompter is everything!”

Oh, please, let him keep commandeering the airwaves and demonstrating what an ignorant psycho he is. Euro leaders, the press, I suspect a growing portion of the 52%, they’re all getting a bad case of buyer’s remorse.

I do, however, wish he would get himself a Twitter account, then we could all watch our programs in peace, lol!
