Meghan McCain: “I am a progressive Republican”
posted at 3:30 pm on March 24, 2009 by Allahpundit
Full transcript here. Yeah, granted, she’s the RINO to end all RINOs, but come on: She’s totally charming. How can my atheist heart not soar at back-handed digs like this?
I was raised a Christian, but I was raised open-minded Christian — one to accept people, love people, not pass judgment.
You keep talking like that, missy, and you’re going to elbow KP aside as my designated left-wing crush. Skip ahead to 1:50 for her take on Rush’s “I want him to fail” comment or to 4:30 for her position on abortion and gay marriage. Am I mistaken or does she blank on what King means when he asks her about “choice”? Exit admonition: I told the Twitterites a little while ago that I have utmost confidence in HA’s readers taking the high road and not resorting to fat jokes in the comments. Don’t let me down!

Amen. With that laundry list, he might have better luck asking the Democrats to develop actual foreign policy beyond ‘Yeah we know. We think America sucks too.’, rather than try to make the GOP embrace all that leftist pap.
Honestly, listening to Meghan try to claim she’s a Republican while sounding like a Democrat makes me imagine she is the kind of woman who would love to be married and have a husband support her, as long she is able to have sex with whoever she wants. In or out, Meghan. You can’t have it both ways.
Your father p*ssed on his party and his base for 8 years, to the gleeful adulation of the Democrats. Then, suddenly, he needs them to vote for him. Needless to say, that didn’t work out well. Pick a party, and stick with it. Or just shut up already.
austinnelly on March 24, 2009 at 3:54 PM
Totally. And, in the end, that’s all that really matters.
lorien1973 on March 24, 2009 at 3:54 PM
So open-minded, her brain leaked out?

Why does she talk that way?
Red Bennet on March 24, 2009 at 3:55 PM
She’s a RINO.
msipes on March 24, 2009 at 3:55 PM
I believe she thinks she is making a stand for her views but the harsh reality is these talk shows would bump her so fast if Bristol Palin agreed to an interview. Maybe then she would realize what the media is trying to accomplish here.
sherry on March 24, 2009 at 3:55 PM
Please, we leave attacks on someone based on appearance to the trolls.
Golly! Cum-bah-ya. Soooo much nicer than we hate filled Christians. I believe adultery is a sin. “(For those of you in Rio Linda, a “sin” is a bad thing.) I believe the slaughter of children in the womb is a sin. I believe stealing is a sin. I’ve asked quite a few “non-judgmental christians”, (lower case “C” intentional) just how much sin do I need to abide before I’m “not pass[ing] judgement.”?
One adulterous affair? Two? Three? 25? What theft must I accept? Stealing someones Benz is acceptable, but stealing their Prius isn’t? Or is it the other way round?
I love people. But that doesn’t mean I stand by and watch idly as someone steps off a precipice. I am COMPELLED by my faith to warn them. My experience is that a “non-judgmental” christian is one with such limp convictions as to be indistinguishable any other “open minded liberal”.
Daddy’s Little RINO.
Indeed.

As long as I’m first.
Suh-weet.
lorien1973 on March 24, 2009 at 3:56 PM
Curse my father for being a factory worker in a GM plant instead of a politician! It’d be awesome if people like Larry King cared about my opinion on issues of great import simply because my dad was ‘Someone’.
I fear that Ms. McCain will be with us for a long, long time just as our good friend Ron Reagan Jr. I imagine that she’ll be a ‘progressive Republican’ for one or two more years (probably until her father retires). At that point, she’ll become a Democrat and she’ll be the media’s go-to person every time they need to trot out someone to say how “the Republican party has changed” and “lost it’s purpose”. Of course, from Ms. McCain’s perspective, the Republicans are falling short in that they aren’t being more like the Democrats.
If you like everything that the Democrats stand for (or at least most everything), why wouldn’t you join them instead? It doesn’t make any sense to be a member of the party you agree with less and attempt to make it like the other party.
JadeNYU on March 24, 2009 at 3:56 PM
As I said in the headlines, the more we fall for Allah’s trap and keep posting comments on Meghan, the more attention she gets.
For the love of pete, JUST IGNORE HER AND SHE’LL GO AWAY!!!
Although the more I think about it, I’ve been saying that about her father for years and he hasn’t gone away either.
I dare her to go on any show and that will actually ask her a real policy or civics question. My guess is she’ll fumble around as much as our TOTUS.

It’s good that you have wisely constrained the high road to exclude fat jokes only. Otherwise you’d have been disappointed with the very first comment.

We tried that in ’08, got us socialism.

Oh let’s just put this thread’s story to bed. She is a fat pampered rich girl with a famous last name and she is an air head. That’s about it. End of story.
Attempt at hijack:
The nationalization of AIG is not just bankrupting the country by throwing billions of our dollars at AIG’s toxic assets. The nationalization of AIG is forcing the American taxpayer to support a very different kind of toxic asset. I refer to AIG’s promotion of Sharia (Islamic law) in its Takaful division, the Sharia-compliant insurance sector of AIG. Since we the people own 80 percent of AIG, we the people now promote Sharia, too.
Don’t believe me? Takaful insurance, our very own AIG Takaful Web site explains, “avoids prohibited elements in accordance with the Sharia law,” adding: “We do not invest in anything that is haram (prohibited under Sharia). We do not borrow, lend or enter into any financial transaction that is unIslamic.”

There was never any transmutation. The progressive movement has never been “progressive” in a literal sense. Ayn Rand was a progressive. She thought she could “define” the world. The idea that you can “define” everything is Marx’s idea of science.
The earliest example of a “progressive” scientist I know of is Pierre Curie.
gh on March 24, 2009 at 3:59 PM
It’s a sure sign that the Republican Party is in total disarray, when a pretty face can get on CNN and tout themselves as the “new voice” of that Party, by spouting all the stuff that caused them to lose their support in the first place.
Does anyone know where Michael Steele is when you need him? Does Michael Steele know where Michael Steele is when you need him?
Nah, didn’t think so. We’re f***ed.

How could anyone be so clueless?
Under no circumstance is she Republican.
Going on The View; Larry King?
Everything she has was given to her.
A Republican is not progressive.
She fails to see how bad she comes across.
Something is not right with this girl.
carbon_footprint on March 24, 2009 at 4:00 PM
I wish Meghan McCain would explain what Republican ideals or principles she avows. From what she has offered thus far, I can only deduce that she fancies being called a Republican because the word’s final vowel sound is closest to rhyming with her last name’s. And even that does not work unless you pronounce it re•pub•li•cane.
Also, I wish she would explain what that thing is on the side of her head.

Either she doesn’t know what it means to be a progressive, or she is being honest about being an uber socialist…either way she is an idiot.
Conservative Voice on March 24, 2009 at 4:02 PM
I’ve said this before. If she cares about the future of the Republican Party she should show it more by talking to other people that care about the same thing.
Talking to corpses like Larry King don’t count. I know she was on with Harry Smith(lib even if he lies about it), Rachel Maddow (moron), and the View (all morons except Hasselbeck).
I guess since she got this column with Daily Beast(whatever the hell that is) she thinks it must mean anyone cares about her opinion so at least use in a constructive way even if it’s true that people don’t care to hear it.
gsherin on March 24, 2009 at 4:02 PM
Enough with this waste of space. Aside from her last name, there is no reason she should be getting any air time. I dare her to go on a talkshow with a real conservative and have a conversation about actual issues. She wouldn’t last 10 seconds.

Then your parents did a damned poor job of explaining what it means to be a Christian, sweetie. There is a big difference between being “judgemental” and the secular humanism practiced by people like your daddy.
Seriously though, who the f**k decided that you were a spokeswhore for the GOP? You aren’t even smart or accomplished.
highhopes on March 24, 2009 at 4:06 PM
seriously? you deleted my post. it wasn’t racist or anything. In fact, it’s not really even vulgar. She can talk all she wants to about how awful and hateful Christians are, but I can’t call her a dumb B because of it?
Great! I get to be offended. . . but dare not offend. I love the first amendment. We have freedom of speech. . . unless we offend someone. Just what the founders had in mind.
In that case, every time someone refers to me as a ‘bigot’ I want the post deleted. As it is derogatory. If someone calls me racist. . . it must be deleted as it hurts my feelings and is derogatory.
Seriously. . . after that thread full of fat jokes (hundreds of them) to draw the line at my comment was absurd.

Meghan McCain is the airhead daughter of a centrist Republican who got clobbered in the last election. She has no idea what a Republican or a Conservative is. She is a publicity hound and an idiot.
Why she is constantly given a platform on a supposedly Conservative site like this I have no idea. Oh, I forgot, this site employs a weak kneed centrist pansy called Allahpundit who agrees with this nonsense.

She diminishes the GOP every time she’s on TV…which is why they put her on TV a lot.
jgapinoy on March 24, 2009 at 4:23 PM
Meghan McCain might have been useful during the 2008 campaign, trying to put a young face on an old candidate.
But while her father has earned respect among Republicans for his military service, foreign-policy expertise, fiscal conservatism, and pro-life stance (although his positions on other issues are more centrist), Meghan McCain hasn’t really defined herself or taken any tough stands on issues, and is basking in the glow of her father’s name. She doesn’t realize that she’s being used by the leftist media to smear her father with her own “liberal” positions, and the media would drop her like a hot potato if she took a strong conservative position.
She needs to get her face off the TV and have a long heart-to-heart chat with her dad about what being a Republican really means.
Unfortunately, in this case, the apple (or peaches) fell a long way from the tree.

jgapinoy on March 24, 2009 at 4:26 PM
I still think she’s far more conservative than most people her age. The fact that she still refers to herself as a Republican is plus in my book. At the very least it might help attract more younger voters to our core beliefs of personal responsibility, limited government and individual liberty, which will become more popular every minute Obama is in office.
Besides, once she gets married, has kids and sees the challenges parents faces in our “progressive” society, I see her gradually embracing more traditional ideals.
Either that or she joins a cult.
