Meghan McCain: “I am a progressive Republican”
posted at 3:30 pm on March 24, 2009 by Allahpundit
Full transcript here. Yeah, granted, she’s the RINO to end all RINOs, but come on: She’s totally charming. How can my atheist heart not soar at back-handed digs like this?
I was raised a Christian, but I was raised open-minded Christian — one to accept people, love people, not pass judgment.
You keep talking like that, missy, and you’re going to elbow KP aside as my designated left-wing crush. Skip ahead to 1:50 for her take on Rush’s “I want him to fail” comment or to 4:30 for her position on abortion and gay marriage. Am I mistaken or does she blank on what King means when he asks her about “choice”? Exit admonition: I told the Twitterites a little while ago that I have utmost confidence in HA’s readers taking the high road and not resorting to fat jokes in the comments. Don’t let me down!

Ouch. Calling Meghan McCain as far left as KP? When even AllahPundit can’t see daylight between KP and Meghan, then it’s time for her to just change her registration.
Vanceone on March 24, 2009 at 3:33 PM
“I am a progressive Republican” = “I’m a RINO.”
Yeah, thanks but no thanks. Now get off my TV.
teke184 on March 24, 2009 at 3:33 PM
“progressive Republican” = “media whore” ????? ’cause that’s all I’m getting from her.

How much more are we going to have to listen to? Progressive Rebublican = Liberal. Please, go away and quit calling yourself a Rebublican.

That’s just…. So cool. You know?
Kuffar on March 24, 2009 at 3:34 PM
Is that like a conservative Marxist?
Hun, all you are is a nut that is still hanging from the tree, and you’re a tool for that tree to attempt to whitewash his liberal sins with.
“Progressive Republicans” are losers, like your dad.
MadisonConservative on March 24, 2009 at 3:34 PM
Giving hope to the vapid.
JammieWearingFool on March 24, 2009 at 3:34 PM
So the definition of ‘progressive’ has changed from something akin to moving forward and now means airhead, liberal, compromising, and “can be easily bought off for votes and pork, or in Meghan’s case, “people will pretend they like me if I wear kneepads”.
AubieJon on March 24, 2009 at 3:34 PM
Obama Christian is an oxymoron.
AP would pair up nicely with this one…
Yech! A pair that would beat a full house..

MadisonConservative on March 24, 2009 at 3:36 PM
She is so very, very brave. Those positions of hers, not judging people, not wanting to beat up gay people, not wanting to force anything on anyone… Wow. Pure bravery.
It’s just so refreshing to see a young person saying the things that not one other young person is saying these days.
myrenovations on March 24, 2009 at 3:36 PM
Can you import all the fat jokes from the comments ??
redrock on March 24, 2009 at 3:36 PM
The problem is that people don’t know what Christianity is. There aren’t different types of Christians (compassionate, zealous, open minded. . . whatever). Being a Christian means only that you accept Christ’s sacrifice for your sins.
That’s it. Nothing more. There is nothing to be ‘open minded’ about. Anything else is people trying to define what ‘sin’ is. Is voting for abortion a sin? Is being gay a sin? Is drinking a sin? most of these decisions are up to the individual – Christian or not.
Open-Minded Christian means you don’t know what being Christian means. Either you believe Jesus is Lord or you don’t. There’s nothing to be open minded about.
ThackerAgency on March 24, 2009 at 3:37 PM
Do we need such a big tent? I have no idea what conservative principle espouses. She comes across to me that she’s a Republican like someone is a White Sox fan. It’s just the team she roots for because it was always daddy’s team.
beatcanvas on March 24, 2009 at 3:37 PM
Meghan youre a skank, plain and simple
Viper1 on March 24, 2009 at 3:37 PM
Folks. This is precisely the problem. With all due respect to Mark Levine, Obama is a progressive not a marxist. He’s also an inexperienced, arrogant twit but that’s the only think which may save us in 2012.

Until the gop embraces…
Pro choice republicans
Gay republican
Global warming/Climate change
Health care reform
Green Energy
… we will never form a coalition to govern again.
We have let the fundamentalists take over our party. Be they Christians or self proclaimed super patriots, the extremes have one thing in common, they are a shrinking group and they preach exclusion at a time we need to be expanding the party.

Meghan still “…makes my rockin’ world go round!”
Apologies Allah.

deidre on March 24, 2009 at 3:42 PM
barkolounger! Still strenously maintaining you are a “Real Conservative!” But every word out of your mouth is nothing but Democratic principles.
Even the socially liberal republicans are fiscal conservatives…. and “climate change”, health care “reform” and “green energy” is nothing but code for big government, socialism and or communism, taxes, taxes, and taxes.
Barkolounger, you are a troll in sheeps clothing, aren’t you?
Vanceone on March 24, 2009 at 3:42 PM
You’re describing the universalist church, not a conservative party, Mr. Brooks. Now swallow.
AubieJon on March 24, 2009 at 3:42 PM
Gee, I wonder why leftys are pumping her up. (no pun in.)
oakpack on March 24, 2009 at 3:42 PM
Nope. You’re thinking of “Progressive and Conservative” … we used to have an oxymoron party in canada but they have since dropped “Progressive”. There are lots of progressive republicans … some of them are also called RINOs.
gh on March 24, 2009 at 3:42 PM
Well, she is being rewarded with a spot on Larry King coming off one at The View and gosh darn it, she does just want to be popular.
All of the progressive Republicans are doing it.
Speakup on March 24, 2009 at 3:43 PM
Wow, the media giving a platform to a “Republican” who bashes Conservatives? That’s so unusual.
trubble on March 24, 2009 at 3:43 PM
As Keyser mentioned above, I guess we get a do-over from the headlines thread?
BadgerHawk on March 24, 2009 at 3:43 PM
What is that crumpled up wrapping paper she has on the side of her head?!
Anyway, enough with Meghan . She is a liberal progressive AKA socialist.
She is Ron Reagan but with a father who’s a RINO.
If Meghan is so confident about her “skills” as a republican expert, why not debate Rush, Laura, Levin, or Ann?
She is like so smart and stuff. Check out her analysis about Obama being an incompetent in the economy.
Brilliant analysis!
Like I think like they should like give her the Nobel prize in political science and English!
jencab on March 24, 2009 at 3:43 PM
The only reason she and her father “CLAIM” to be Republicans is that it enables otherwise ordinary and uninspiring people to stand out and receive attention.
Her father is and has been a mediocre senator at best and the case could be made that he has done far more harm than good. He would be a nobody if he hadn’t made his bones for the left by claiming to be Right.
Meghan is simply taking a page from daddy’s playbook. The media will help her to play and another mediocre star is born.
I say we shun her and deny her any place at the table.
America1st on March 24, 2009 at 3:43 PM
I don’t care about her weight any more than I care about Obama’s skin tone. These attributes do not matter.
As Dr. King put it, what matters is the content of their character.
Ms. McCain has, perhaps, not been around long enough to have outgrown youthful liberalism, but Mr. Obama has no excuse.

Jesus is the most closed minded person I know. And I know Him very well. Anyone who calaims to be opppppppppeeeen miiiiiiiiiinded is an idiot with no foundation. She doesn’t know the Jesus of the Holy Bible.
As far as her political position she is a stupid idiot with no foundation. Pretty much like her religious open mindedness.
Mercy4Me on March 24, 2009 at 3:44 PM
Meghan, using that word just torpedoed your credibility. Dash on over to the real “progressives” in the Socialist Democratic Republic of George Soros.

I say she is getting ready to run for Daddy’s seat. Thats why she has been going around on the media circuit lately. There is no other reason for it.
MDWNJ on March 24, 2009 at 3:45 PM
She says that the “social issues” shouldn’t be what defines us. Okay then, why are you talking about them and trying to make a case for yourself regarding your social beliefs. Also, I want to know what she agrees with that conservatives do….Earmark reform? I’m 24 years old, and she does not speak for me. I can’t stand it when they say she is speaking for young conservatives; she isnt.
deidre on March 24, 2009 at 3:45 PM
I think that would do her, and us, a lot of good.
World B. Free on March 24, 2009 at 3:46 PM
good point. or run for office (and lose). Or HOST a conservative media program.
she’s a lightweight (figuratively) and a tool for propaganda.
ThackerAgency on March 24, 2009 at 3:46 PM
I don’t think anyone really cares what this person is. Her Dad lost bigtime and she just wants to insult the party and stay in the news. Bad actors are kept on stage far too long. Go away with this.

Where are the liberals who love bashing liberals? Why don’t they ever get gratuitous coverage?
frankj on March 24, 2009 at 3:46 PM
Well, you don’t say. OK then, given what the word “progressive” has been transmuted into, I am an atheist Christian.

“Progressive Republicans” are the reason the party is in the crapper and a laughingstock, as well as the reason I’m not a Republican.
Oh, and she’s a lard-ass.

Her daddy has at least some redeeming features. I thought he had a pretty good conservative rating with the ACU. He’s too squishy but she’s just confused.

Even though I am a mediocre Christian I still am praying to God that Allahpundit realizes that having repetitive Meghan McCain threads about the same stupid interviews while complaining about the fat jokes is childish and beheath him.

No… Republicans used to be the more progressive of the two main parties. If Republicans concentrated on fiscal prudence, policy execution and providing competent government they would be in better shape than they are now.

Theodore Rex was a progressive Republican too. From “Liberal Fascism”….
“Progressive” sounds so cool. It’s a great label for the person who is too lazy to have a true political philosophy.
V15J on March 24, 2009 at 3:49 PM
Lots of Christians love people, accept people, and don’t pass judgment.
“Judge not lest ye be judged” is one of the most misunderstood verses in the Bible. We are allowed to discern, but judgement is the Lord’s – not ours. A lot of people believe this means that we’re not even supposed to use discernment. Not true. (Though I’m sure that’s what many liberals think it means.)
capitalist piglet on March 24, 2009 at 3:49 PM
Not.
Read Goldberg’s Liberal Fascism. However, Jonah only goes back to Wilson. The progressive movement in Europe goes back to Bismarck, afaik. They are Lenin’s useful idiots.

No fat jokes. How about empty suit/lack of substance jokes? She’s a pretty face with no reason to be in the spotlight. McCain talks a lot about what’s wrong with the party. What does she LIKE about the GOP?
I think she should jump the fence and be a proud Democrat. Of course, that gets her less air time than being a disaffected Republican.

Huh?
Do you want to explain why we give up voters that agree with us on many issues because they also believe one of the above is important?
Do you have a valid reason why we should give health care and science to the Democrats?
Why should we pander to the tiny minority that refuses to budge on those issues further wedging those voters to the Democrats?
Why do we elevate religious bigots, and xenophobes when they do nothing but shrink our coalition and hand votes to Democrats?
The most virulent morons think the party should include only those that agree 100% with them are they same people that call me a troll for wanting to enlarge the party.
Riiiiiiiight.
