Comedy gold: Maxine Waters grills Geithner on the secret Goldman Sachs cabal or something

Via Business Insider, celebrating the economic acuity of a politician who’s always good for a comic soundbite. Consider this a lesson in what happens when lawmakers get their news from HuffPo: She’s trying to ask Geithner whether Goldman Sachs alumni at Treasury are favoring the company, but in Waters-speak it turns into a jumbled series of questions about where, among others, Geithner’s “CEO” used to work. (I think she means Neel Kashkari.) Anyway, just watch his facial expressions. Our nation is in good hands, my friends.

Are you sure Maxine Waters and Barrack Obama aren’t related? The Moron in the Senate and the Moron in Chief. Our country is in good hands.

Sorry, the Moron in the House. It’s hard to tell with so many.

Sorry…didn’t mean to slur any Ace of Spaders. I read Ace everyday. I should be calling Barack and Waters the Idiot in Chief and the Idiot of the House. Is that better?
lobo603 on March 24, 2009 at 8:05 PM
I can’t remember if HA ran the two clips of Waters last week, first, saying that Obama may not be “in the loop” on the AIG bonuses and, second, later announcing that Obama was now “in” the loop. It was an awesomely awesome display of total cluelessness. The White House must have had a fit after seeing the first clip because Maxy was singing a completely different tune in the second.
She’s an absolute dope.
BuckeyeSam on March 24, 2009 at 8:06 PM
The “What the f*ck is this woman talking about” expression on Geithner’s face at the 2:00 minute mark is priceless.

i don’t think tim geithner is a bad guy. i do think tim went to work for the wrong guy; namely barry o’bama.
DrW on March 24, 2009 at 8:13 PM
As stupid as she is, as ignorant, as foolish…she retains her seat with ease.
If you want to know why (and this will sound offensive, but we have to keep it concise) the black community has such a long hard road ahead of it…they keep electing fools like this to represent them. All you can do is just shake your head, in any kind of mixed company, to call her what she is, would label that person as a bigot, racist, blackophobe.
right2bright on March 24, 2009 at 8:15 PM
You can be a “good” guy and incompetent…I just have a hard time with someone (the treasure of the U.S.) who says “Turbo Tax” is the reason I didn’t pay taxes.

I agree. I’m just about to be unaware of a problem with Turbo Tax that reduces my tax owed for 2008 by an outrageous amount. My level of incompetence is directly related to how much I can benefit from it.
Look for me at the polls in 2012! I’m a shooh in for the Senate here in Virginia.

The source of her question is the article by tabibi in Rolling Stone.
And I think she’s absolutely right on to ask about Goldman Sachs’s behind the scenes game-playing.

Did Geithner ask her how that $12M she wrote into TARP 1 for her neighborhood bank was working out?

Also “Me, antiwar sex.”

Sadly, Geithner has the same expression whenever he’s telling Obama what he’s going to do with America and Obama tries to ask intelligent questions without TOTUS.

No, Goldman Sachs doesn’t run the economy. If they did, things would be a lot better. Yes, Al Qaeda was behind 9/11. And no foolin’, we really did land on the moon.

It never dawned on me that JEws controlled Goldman Sachs. Is that what you’re claiming? To criticize Sachs equates to Jew-bashing?
I think GS is right up there with Citigroup with its tentacles all over our fininicial system and government.
If you want to talk about teh Trilateral Commision that’s your problem… don’t foist it on me, ass.

You’ve got it backwards. You need to do some serious research.
As for Jews, its more along the lines of an Anglo-American empire ala the British Empire of the 1800’s.
Also, since you seem focused on Jews whenever anyone mentions banking cartels, I’ll make sure to point out that Barack Obama is black anytime you criticize him. :)
True_King on March 24, 2009 at 9:02 PM
This is the government Tim Geithner wanted, so drink this cup to the bitter end, you statist tool.
greggriffith on March 24, 2009 at 9:02 PM
There is someone trying to take her on. Meet Ted Hayes: homeless advocate, vehement anti-illegal-immigration activist, and Rastafarian Republican. Candidate for Congress opposing incumbent Maxine Waters.
Hayes received 13% of the vote to Maxine’s 84% but got 10 times the number of votes per campaign dollar spent as Maxine did. Coincidentally, he appears to be 10 times as intelligent as she is, also.
He probably will run again as there appears to be no one else ready or willing to attempt to oppose the Waters Juggernaut in that district from the Republican side.
Edouard on March 24, 2009 at 9:03 PM
Don’t waste your time on him, it’s just a card that conservatives pull out whenever anyone brings up the banking cartel or the Rothschilds. Much like liberals like to pull out the racism/homophobe/sexist card. Just remember to respond “Is it because he’s black?” whenever they criticize Obama.
That’s just to remind them how much they hate it when the race card is played on them. :)
True_King on March 24, 2009 at 9:05 PM
Then why not any questions about Citi, or Morgan Stanley, or BofA? Surely all these firms’ fingerprints are just as present on the Bailout/TARP as Goldman Sachs.
I’m not saying it is Jew bashing… just that it sure as hell sounds a lot like Jew bashing.
JohnGalt23 on March 24, 2009 at 9:06 PM
Are you saying she’s dumb because she’s black? Be careful, someone might pull out the race card.

Obama bashing sounds like what? Come on, let’s see if you can guess.

I forget what hearings it was, but this same committee was meeting a couple of months ago, and were grilling Ben Bernanke. Maxine started talking some kind of weird nonsense, and Bernanke looked straight at her, and said “I don’t know what you are talking about”.
It was then I realized that, in DC, when someone says to a Member of Congress “I don’t know what you are talking about”, they are really saying “You don’t know what you’re talking about.”
JohnGalt23 on March 24, 2009 at 9:21 PM
I felt bad for him too. I believe the testimony is under oath and having to try to follow along to whatever Maxine is spinning could totally lead to some sort of unforced error and then perjury.

The race card got burned back in November. No longer can blacks use racism or slavery as an excuse for their social position. Every time you hear “white man holding the black man down…just lift up a photo of The One. Argument over.
Unless, and maybe it’s so, whitey finally had enough and voted in a token black just to end the whining.
It’s one or the other.
BobMbx on March 24, 2009 at 9:51 PM
If you know anything about the bailouts you’d know that Goldman Sachs has made out quite differently from any other financial entity and also happens to have their alumni in charge of US policy for years.
And that has something to do with the Jewish faith because? You seem to think Goldman Sachs is just a bunch of Jooooos. Why is that? What’s your source? So, if Goldman is determined to have run a major financial scam on US taxpayers, you’re saying we need to blame the Jews?
Please explain your logic.
econavenger on March 24, 2009 at 9:52 PM
Hey, why not? I mean, what better way to ease the years of oppression against the Arabs, eh? Let’s blame the Jews for the financial mess (why not..the sterotype already exists), mention that they’re also the reason for the unending wars in the Middle East….we’re certainly to get in good with the Islamists, right? Hey, maybe they’ll even not want to cut our heads off anymore.

oakpack on March 24, 2009 at 10:04 PM
How so? Are you suggesting they got a sweetheart deal, better than that of BofA or Morgan? From what I’ve followed of the crisis, BofA seems like the most likely target of opprobrium with the Merrill deal, which i understand was sort of dicey. Did Goldman Sachs also have a similar deal?
Because unlike Morgan Stanley, Citi and other old money financial institutions usually associated with WASPism, Goldman Sachs is often, fairly or unfairly, associated with large Jewish money. My experience is that when one wants to paint Wall Street bankers as tools of the Zionist conspiracy, Goldman is most frequently the name that comes up. And frankly, that was exactly what I heard coming out of waters’ mouth today.
JohnGalt23 on March 24, 2009 at 10:06 PM
She is seriously (trying) to ask Geithner if treasury alum is favoring Goldman Sachs?
Is/Did Congress favor BankOne (Maxine Waters husband was on the Board, she has $500,00 in stocks) with TARP money?

Goldman Sachs is an investment bank nothing like BofA and the financial benefits each got are light years apart.
I’ve listened to many serious people over the years who not only saw this crisis coming, but predicted the current secondary scam that Paulson, Kashkari, Geithner et al are pulling now as a solution to benefit the most powerful investment banks and hedge funds. The standard banks are insolvent and being used for the shell game.
But not once over the years have I heard anyone with any credibility say it was Jewish conspiracy. In fact, they often explain how it’s nothing like back when that meme got started, so callers understand that stupidity doesn’t fly on the investment program.
This is all simply a legalized siphoning of the US Treasury by people with the big money who were thus in a position to make even bigger money risk-free by controlling policy and buying the politicians with sweetheart deals. Obama and the Dems are supposedly in charge, and they have to pretend to be smart, but not one of them has any clue about global finance. Primarily it’s Goldman Sachs and F.O.G.S. calling the shots now.
That’s why no staff is on board at Treasury yet, because it’s not about the most sensible policy for America at the moment. Geithner doesn’t want outside interference or people who can tell the story later. We all know that by now, but we’re still in denial. It’s about the big $$$ covering monstrous bets and getting the liquidity from taxpayers to make more huge bets now on a false recovery that will be managed by the people placing the bets. Then they get out and the pyramid collapses on your kids.
Obama just has to lay off of Geithner, say what he’s told on his teleprompter and look busy playing mini-Chavez with Health Care, etc.
