Too good to check: Palin robocalls being made in Iowa, New Hampshire?
posted at 7:29 pm on March 23, 2009 by Allahpundit
Doesn’t mean she’s responsible for them, but someone’s interested:
I wanted to let you know that I just received an interesting phone call. It was an automated poll and it asked the following questions:
1. Do you have a favorable opinion of Sarah Palin?
2. Gov. Palin thinks A, B, C, D & E do you agree with Gov. Palin?
3. Do you feel it is important that Gov. Palin is reelected as Gov. of Alaska?
The only two surefire GOP candidates for 2012, I think, are Huckabee and Sanford, the latter of whom is profiled in the Washington Independent today as the great Paulian fiscal conservative hope. Exit question to Palinites: Why Sarahcuda over Sanford? Make the case in the comments, if you can.

The ones that have been proven wrong that you hear about come from the same school of economics – Keynesian.

My point was, Levin’s Constitutional background gives him a very informed perspective on American History, and economic policies that go against the Founders intention for America.
It all ties together, you need some understanding of the Constitution to get why our system of government has been the economic engine of the world. It’s very simple. It’s called liberty. Levin gets how all of these things have converged to make America the best place in the world to make a living and raise a family.
This is my larger point, sheepskin on the wall does not a man (or woman) make. Life is the best educator.
I will continue to take Levin’s word over yours, yes even history and economics. When we have a 15000 comment thread about computer programming language, then you are the king.

you should keep to economics theory at least on that subject you are not making a fool of yourselve like you do with Palin posts. As far as Peter being right? He also said Gold would be at $2,000 last year. He was right about the econonmy but if you would have listened to him in his entire message you would have taken a bath with your money.
That does not mean he will not eventually be correct but if not for Obama and the Fed spending like crazy over the last 2 months gold in all likelihood would have dropped to under $500.00.

dedalus on March 24, 2009 at 11:42 AM
You are confusing economic theory with investment advice. Austrian economics has nothing to do with his investment advice. But you are just inventing things. He never gives exact dates for anything since it is impossible to predict the exact time. He said he expects gold to go over $2000 in the next couple of years. All of that is irrelevant to the economic theory that explains what is going on and why.
Poptech on March 24, 2009 at 11:44 AM
Wrong. American History, World History. He has studied these topics to inform his knowledge of why our system is the best man has offered so far, and why other systems have failed, over and over again, in World History. Knowing the Constitution as Levin does helps the perspective when learning about other governments, and why they did not work out.
Levin would eat your ass for lunch in a debate on any topic under the sun, except for perhaps computer programming.
That is a fact.

Oh, how wrong you are! This is a man with a considered, intellectual and rock solid understanding of the philosophies that led to the founding of our nation. Not just legalisms, but the whole enchilada. Economic freedom is only a part of the whole picture. It’s an important part, but just part.
Take the subject of National Security for example. Levin served in the Justice Department, but I’ll wager that he knows more about defending this nation that you ever will.
The philosophical underpinnings of American Conservatism is what this book is about. Grounded in the Framer’s philosophy, we have excelled for two centuries. The farther we get from those principles, the worse off we will be. Demonstrated by detailed examples from World History.
I stand by my previous statement.

An opinion piece from Salon? Let’s hear how Rolling Stone weighs in next.
I read this piece, too, interestingly borrowing its title from a Tina Fey rip off of the movie Heathers. It says Palin didn’t fire all those crooks in Alaska because of corruption but more from personal ambition.
That still beats the endless bribes accepted by Barack Obama and most of the Democratic party K Street hookers. Show me *any* politician with comparable reform achievements to Sarah Palin’s.

I honestly don’t know much about Sanford. Cuda’s primary selling points, at least to me, are her executive experience and charisma. You can learn facts quickly or have aids around for reference. But charisma and decision making capabilities are extremely difficult to develop.
Eggheads – or the extremely intelligent/knowledgeable don’t always make the best executives. There’s something else that makes for successful candidates. I think it’s got more to do with personality traits and innate abilities than just pure knowledge.
If Sanford is a decent extemporaneous speaker capable of explaining his ideas clearly and concisely, he may be worth a look. I really like Sarah on a gut level, but she’s not THE ONE for me.

The voters judged Carter to be qualified for the job, and then decided he wasn’t. Things change. I dare say, most presume he is now insane. Alaska was a US territory before it was a state. Of course, it enjoys “limited economic freedom.” It’s a giant national park. Here’s results from polling done for the GOP Primary in 2012:
Do you see Mark Sanford name even mentioned once? NO. He is a non-player for 2012. He is just a pipedream that Allah likes. Without national name recognition you will not raise any money. Sanford doesn’t even have a PAC.
The only way a darkhorse candidate can pull himself into contention is by charisma alone (like the Huckster did in 2008). Sanford has NO charisma, ergo there is no way he can be a contender in 2012.
Jindal won’t run because of his off-year relection bid in November of 2011, too late to be able organize for the primary. Any viable candidate would need to announce in the Summer of 2011 or earlier.
The 2012 GOP primary will be race between Sarah, the Huckster and Romney, with Newt being a possible 4th contender.
Norwegian on March 24, 2009 at 12:15 PM
She can be nominated based on fund raising and getting more votes in the early primaries than her opponents. There is no criteria for being qualified or electable. The Democrats have nominated a number of unelectable candidates over the past decades.
Palin’s poll numbers went down during the fall campaign. She increased turnout for the base but hurt with swing voters.

In your own words.. WHY? Is he running his state more successfully? What can you say he achieved as a real estate agent and a financial analyst? We know what Obama did as a lawyer at Davis, Miner, Barnhill & Galland, 1993-2004 while he was also Senior Lecturer, Constitutional Law, University of Chicago, 1996-2004.
Obama was colecting checks for giving a lecture once or twice a year, while the majority of his time was spent helping ACORN activists bully banks into lowering their lending standards. What was Sanford doing at the time that you say makes him “infinitely qualified”?
chunderroad on March 24, 2009 at 12:18 PM
I dispute everything you said. Levin fans have fits when people explain who he is.

It is when the ranking went DOWN since she has been there.

damn those statistics

Now, based on your standards we have established that you have no qualification to be discussing politics. But, since you continue to crave education in this area, I will indulge you, yet again. In a head-to-head with a newly elected president, The One no less, this is a remarkably positive performance. If the media has the guts to continue to report this kind of polling, her numbers will continue to rise against Obama. Do you understand now? No, I didn’t think so.
littleguy on March 24, 2009 at 12:21 PM
History is filled with many politicians who were judged qualified and elected only to subsequently become very unpopular.
There are far fewer figures who overcame high negatives. It isn’t impossible, just difficult and rare. Sarah needs a catalyst, something that reintroduces her to the American public. I’m sure her advisors are working on it.
dedalus on March 24, 2009 at 12:21 PM
Pageantry experience is good for a retail politician. It shows she has poise and confidence enough to win scholarships that will pay her way through college.
Chairman of the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission is business experience, and rooting out corruption during that time is a sign of competence.
Governor of a State performing better than Sanford’s SC or Obama’s USSA is a significant achievement, as well.
chunderroad on March 24, 2009 at 12:22 PM
Then why do you support Romney?

chunderroad on March 24, 2009 at 12:24 PM
Bigger question regarding that poll … why wasn’t the opponent Sanford or Romney?
Sanford and Romney are not a threat to The One
joey24007 on March 24, 2009 at 12:24 PM
Mark Sanford (Marshall Clement Sanford Jr.)
Education:
- B.A. Business, Furman University, 1983
- M.B.A. University of Virginia’s Darden School of Business, 1988
Political Experience:
- U.S. Representative from South Carolina, 1995-2001
- Governor of South Carolina, 2003-Present (6 years)
Professional Experience:
- Associate, Coldwell Banker, 1983
- Project Manager, Beachside Real Estate, 1984-1986
- Associate, Goldman Sachs, 1987
- Financial Analyst, Chemical Realty Corporation, 1988-1990
- Real Estate Broker, Brumley Company, 1990-1991
- Owner, Norton and Sanford Real Estate Investment, 1992-Present
Those make him an economic einstein compared to the populist “maverick” who is no such thing. Palin is supported by economic illiterates who only really care about Pro-life/Religious issues.

As usual… no one asks if Alaskans have gotten this call… which is no big deal. I.E. I got the call 3 weeks ago and Allah is just now putting this on. What a crock.
Poptech/Allah, are you going to put any of the accomplishments that Palin did… or just spew as usual for being a whiny little moderate aka liberal.
FFS… this is getting really farking OLD!

What do you mean, “explain who he is”? I know exactly who he is, he does not hide anything about his background, he is quite proud of it, rightly so.
The fact remains that you are no credible source for anything. I’ll take Levin, and you can go to the Bob Barr Convention. We’ll see who does more to mobilize conservatives across America to take the country back. I’ll bet Sarah Palin out does you on that front, too.
Good day, sir Popagandist.

Palin: ORLY doesn’t get an interview with me or the huge ratings it guarantees.
chunderroad on March 24, 2009 at 12:26 PM
Ultimately, it is about the guy at the top of the ticket. The financial crisis made it impossible for the GOP to win, and McCain did a poor job making his case. However, the opinion of voters when isolated on Palin was not positive and declined as the campaign went on.
dedalus on March 24, 2009 at 12:26 PM
yeah, you posted that one already
joey24007 on March 24, 2009 at 12:26 PM
ROFLMAO! No it is not, she was appointed that position for political reasons not because she has any REMOTE understanding of energy policy. Palintologists are beyond stupid.

Even Mark Sanford himself would have to accompany his resume with a cover letter explaining his qualifications, if he were looking for a job. What did he do?
chunderroad on March 24, 2009 at 12:28 PM
What’s with the quoting of the religion? It’s creepy. But anyway.
Based on that resume, it would appear that he knows his econ. But does he have the interpersonal skills to make his case to the general public?
Leadership isn’t just about possessing knowledge, but in the ability to A) persuade people to follow you and B) have a vision about where you’re going. Knowledge is easily obtained. Wise counsel can tell you how to get where you want to go.
But knowledge alone will not grant you the ability to lead.
TheUnrepentantGeek on March 24, 2009 at 12:28 PM
I posted her accomplishments!!!
Sarah Palin
Accomplishments:
- Spending increased by 55% as Mayor of Wasilla
- Racked up $20 Million in Long Term Debt as Mayor of Wasilla
- Spending increased by 31% as Governor of Alaska
- Requested $456 Million in Earmarks as Governor of Alaska
- Raised Taxes on Oil Profits to 25% as Governor of Alaska
Poptech on March 24, 2009 at 12:28 PM
and what was the reason for that?
I think it was the McCain campaign’s inability to allow Palin to give her record and views early in the campaign
and just as bad … the McCain campaign’s inability to defend their VP candidate from the outright smears that were aimed at her.
joey24007 on March 24, 2009 at 12:28 PM
Andrew Sullivan is that YOU! Allah get a grip!
