Too good to check: Palin robocalls being made in Iowa, New Hampshire?

posted at 7:29 pm on March 23, 2009 by Allahpundit

Doesn’t mean she’s responsible for them, but someone’s interested:

I wanted to let you know that I just received an interesting phone call. It was an automated poll and it asked the following questions:

1. Do you have a favorable opinion of Sarah Palin?

2. Gov. Palin thinks A, B, C, D & E do you agree with Gov. Palin?

3. Do you feel it is important that Gov. Palin is reelected as Gov. of Alaska?

The only two surefire GOP candidates for 2012, I think, are Huckabee and Sanford, the latter of whom is profiled in the Washington Independent today as the great Paulian fiscal conservative hope. Exit question to Palinites: Why Sarahcuda over Sanford? Make the case in the comments, if you can.

A Sanford Romney combo would be good.

Repurblican on March 23, 2009 at 7:34 PM

Well for one Alaska is operating in the black and South Carolina is in the red. Two, she has far more charisma and an ability to connect with people.

goat on March 23, 2009 at 7:34 PM

First of all, anyone who’s choosing sides for a particular candidate at this point is getting way ahead of themselves. That said, the argument for Palin is the manner in which she’s governed Alaska.

If Palin made the same kinds of executive decisions from the Oval Office that she’s made from Juneau, it would benefit the country tremendously. Sanford may be good, too . . . he may be better. But you asked for the argument for Palin. That’s it.

And nothing that happens in an interview with the Perky Katie Couric changes that.

Huckabee! It’s because of this incompetent loser that John McCain got the GOP nod in 2008. By proxy then, he’s the man that gave us Obama. I will not forget. Really thin that new blood is what is needed, not hack like him.

ddrintn on March 23, 2009 at 7:35 PM

As much as the left hates Sarah, I assume they could make ditzy calls themselves in her name. Also wasn’t their polling data that informed them of their attack Rush campaign? Could be readying for another attack Sarah campaign.

Huckabee?! I don’t see how he could possibly be a serious candidate. The base loathes him from everything I’ve seen and his religion will turn off the liberals who gave the nomination to McCain. Huckabee is a joke.

Sorry, they’re both fine candidates and there’s still plenty of time before 2012. Let’s give them the time to define themselves and their positions. Either way, we’ll get someone much better than the bumbling buffoon who’s currently occupying the White House.

doug1981 on March 23, 2009 at 7:39 PM

Sanford is dull and not appealing to enough of the public. He would need for Obama to become extremely hated and hope no Ross Perot jumps in.

if he gots Bircher for the paultards, he sure wouldn’t have a shot in hell.

jp on March 23, 2009 at 7:40 PM

aside from people grossly overestimating palins ability to connect with a significant majority (although there is no doubt she can connect with the base)…theres nothing a Palin supporter really has to justify.

they both make conservative choices.

neither are international heavyweights but sadly america hasnt wanted one of those in ages. (though maybe thats a tradition conservatives can get behind…we used to elect elder statesmen with experience in diplomacy and war)

it may be that Sanford has a more ready command of the facts and of mature communication…but we can all admit thats not something america’s really wanted lately either.

and so, until we watch them campaign, theres nothing thats gonna separate them

The Wall on March 23, 2009 at 7:41 PM

Why Sarahcuda over Sanford? Make the case in the comments, if you can.

Because Sarah can raise the most money for a political campaign.

jimmy the notable on March 23, 2009 at 7:42 PM

Because I would argue that Palin and Sanford are almost identical on issues, fiscal credibility, policy. They are both solid conservatives and they both have a little bit of a libertarian/small government thing going on.

In regards to political strategy, its Palin, hands down. Sanford could never dream of that kind of charisma and ability. And when he draws 70,000 people at a rally in Florida, I’ll retract that statement.

hmmmm… Let’s see what she has to say if she ever runs her own campaign.

from the AmCon link inside the above link:

He also deviates from the Republican line on foreign policy. In Congress, he opposed Clinton’s intervention in Kosovo. And he was one of only two Republicans to vote against the 1998 resolution to make regime change in Iraq the official policy of the United States. He says that it was a “protest vote” in which he tried to reassert the legislature’s war-declaring powers. When asked about the invasion of Iraq, he extends his critique beyond the constitutional niceties. “I don’t believe in preemptive war,” he says flatly. “For us to hold the moral high ground in the world, our default position must be defensive.”

if he’s going to repeat the spin of the Left on this, then no thanks.

Kosovo is one thing on technical grounds(NATO), the Iraq stuff, given the facts, not so much.

As a “Paulian” fiscal conservative, I think Sanford is a little bit better than alternatives like Palin or Jindal. I’d of course rather see Ron Paul or Pat Buchanan try one more run, but maybe Sanford has got what it takes. Supporting McCain in the general is bad, but at least he didn’t endorse him in the primary. I need to hear much more from him regarding monetary policy and foreign policy yet before coming to a personal verdict on his potential candidacy.

I prefer Palin to Sanford because Palin is a proven reformer. She does not do business as usual which is hard to do in Alaska. She has managed to put money away in her state for the economic meltdown. I connect to her on a personal level that I do not with Sanford. While he is practicing conservative government now that the spotlight is turned on him, I believe Palin has managed to do this when it was not popular during the Bush years of big government expansion. I just like her.
