Good news: EPA set to shackle economy with ruling on global warming

posted at 3:20 pm on March 23, 2009 by Allahpundit

First come the new regulations on corporate pay, then comes onerous litigation to force emissions compliance. All we need now is a monster tax hike and then we’ll really have this economy humming.

Sometimes I get the feeling that recovery isn’t quite the paramount priority for the left that they claim it is. Paranoid, I know.

“This is historic news,” said Frank O’Donnell, who heads the public watchdog group Clean Air Watch. “It will set the stage for the first-ever national limits on global warming pollution. And it is likely to help light a fire under Congress to get moving.”

But business groups decried the move as an economic disaster.

“By moving forward with the endangerment finding on greenhouse gases, EPA is putting in motion a set of decisions that may have far-reaching unintended consequences,” said Bill Kovacs, vice president of environment, technology and regulatory affairs at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. “Specifically, once the finding is made, no matter how limited, some environmental groups will sue to make sure it is applied to all aspects of the Clean Air Act.

“This will mean that all infrastructure projects, including those under the president’s stimulus initiative, will be subject to environmental review for greenhouse gases. Since not one of the projects has been subjected to that review, it is possible that the projects under the stimulus initiative will cease. This will be devastating to the economy.”

Will The One press ahead with this to satisfy the greens or put it on the backburner until GDP is growing again? Prioritization hasn’t been his strong suit thus far. Exit question: Anyone been to Costa Rica?

Precedent Uhhhhbama must get the price of electricity and gasoline up high enough to make the green crap economically feasible. He wants to run the country on sunshine and breezes. He can’t do that when gasoline is $2 per gallon.

Obamanomics…….not just for idiots anymore.

Much better that climate change alter the planet! Rising sea levels will eventually make my place that’s five miles inland convert to beachfront property! Keep up the good work!

For every page on the new regulations I vow to buy and consume 2 cans of beans, eat three hard boiled eggs, and down a 40 ouncer. Let me tell ya, you don’t want to stumble across my greenhouse gas.

There are lawsuits pending in California based on the non-compliance with a state mandate for carbon dioxide production limits. Since it takes one ton of carbon dioxide to make 1 ton of concrete, California will stop all construction, including road repairs, until a resolutio0n is found. Of course, it will take years for these things to be resolved and the environmentalists will demand restraining orders on all new projects and sources of carbon dioxide until the new limits can be implemented.

And actually, the only thing holding these lawsuits back today was that horrible bush administrations refusal to allow the EPA to create laws from the fraudulant scam known as global warming. Well, it used to be global warming, but that got to be so recognizably fraudulent they had to find a new name for it.

Calling these socialist circle-jerks “watchdog groups” imparts a legitimacy they never earned and don’t deserve. They are pushing a leftist agenda and this just happens to be the vehicle they’re driving right now.
I wonder, does it come with leather? Oops, my bad.

First come the new regulations on corporate pay

Well, corporations aren’t really natural elements of a free market. You could argue that you accept govt interference once you choose to incorporate your business.

They’re the remants of old-style British mercantilism. Why should any business have to incorporate or shield its owners from liability?

I’ve been to Costa Rica a couple of times. There and Australia are my prime choices should things get really, really, really bad.

Don’t they know that the “Global Warming” isn’t happening anyways? It’s cooling slightly right now. In fifty years it will probably be warming again, then cooling, then warming, etc. It’s _cyclical_. Geez. :/

The problem with “Green” is that it doesn’t work. Wind power needs a 90% backup of a more steady source like coal or nuclear or hydrodynamic. Solar panels still are not economically feasible. This is why we have propaganda like “Clean Coal” on ads now; coal STILL provides 50-60% of the power used in this country.
One question: our electrical grids in this country are stretched to the limit in many cities; how can anyone with any understanding of this advocate electric cars and/or plug-in hybrids?

Petroleum based chemistry is ubiquitous in this society; we rely on it for many other things besides fuel (think plastics for instance). I see a wide variety of products being carbon-taxed into oblivion.
This is an all-out war on all consumer goods and services.

Soon to be a hypothetical question.
