Quotes of the day

posted at 9:30 pm on March 22, 2009 by Allahpundit

“Missing in action is the Barack Obama who vowed to unite the country around common values. Lately he has been the very opposite of the man he promised. Instead of hope, many have a growing fear of the arrogant government he leads…

In truth, there is no history for what he is doing. He is the most radical President of our times, far outside the mainstream of our political philosophy…

He is not a reformer who fixes things. He fancies himself ‘transformative,’ a man who reshapes and reorders. It apparently begins with smashing the existing order under the pretext of managing the crisis he inherited.

During the campaign, a fellow journalist confided that ‘I know Obama is a Manchurian candidate, I just can’t figure out what for.’

I laughed then, but no more.”

This is tough because I really don’t like or trust him. By itself it is an indicator that something is not completely clicking with him. It is just one measure. I think the interviewers reaction shows that he finds his joking out of place. I would like to see the interaction on video though. I am very curious.

Everyone knows about nervous laughter, but that’s not what took place. I don’t think it’s gallows humor either. To me gallows humor is something you use as an escape valve when you’re hurting.

The scary thing is that, by definition, gallows humor is made by the person who believes that death/impending doom is INEVITABLE.

Is there a psychologist in the house?

What does it mean when someone when they laugh at a horrific situation, especially when said person is in a position to help correct it, but instead only acts to make it worse?

INC on March 23, 2009 at 12:40 AM

Such individuals who lack ulterior motive have traditionally been referred to in layman’s terms simply as a variation of a pyromaniac. Most such maniacs lack conscious motivation although they are fully aware of the acts they are failing to stop or they themselves are committing. Typically they will feel intense pleasure, gratification, or relief when causing destruction or when witnessing or participating in the aftermath. Motivation is also classified as pathological and non-pathological. Some research suggests that feeling such joy at horrific situations is pathological. Other research suggests that some motivation for this comes from rational thought. Taking joy in horrific situations for envisioned gains in political power and/or the concealment of the imposition of devious plans are examples of supposed rational decision making. I hope this helps.

Maquis on March 23, 2009 at 1:58 AM

I never thought of Obama as being super intelligent. I think he’s an empty suit. He has people telling him how clever he is, patting him on the back, building up his ego. Even in college when he was appointed to run the Harvard Review it was most likely because he is Black. They probably convinced him he was smart and that sroked his ego some more. Then other handlers took over and carried his career further. They couldn’t do the work for him all the time, as his failure with the Annenberg Challenge shows, but they managed to keep him believing he was really that smart and capable.

Perhaps that’s what attracted his wife, she can also pat him on the head and make him feel important, while she runs the show. I picture him as a show dog like an Irish Setter, all appearance but on his own unable to perform the work he should be doing. The worst part is that his handlers may be in over their heads now with the problems he is facing or they could lose control.
With someone like Obama, it’s the men/women behind the curtain we have to worry about.

Deanna on March 23, 2009 at 2:00 AM

Limerick on March 23, 2009 at 1:40 AM

I know most people won’t believe me or want to hear this but Putin is not a Communist. Yes he worked for the KGB but that is not ideologically significant – every Russian was a part of the Communist apparatus to some extent.

He is a Russian Nationalist – a frigheningly intelligent and dangerous one – but there is no evidence that he is acting on the basis of Marxist principles. If anything it’s the West that is Communist-leaning and Putin is acting out of pure national self-interest.

Damn straight…

Yes. Damned straight.

And I’m increasingly convinced that a good lot of those people are not American and, to take it further, not Western.

Saltysam on March 23, 2009 at 2:05 AM

It was a clever ruse though.

aengus on March 23, 2009 at 1:56 AM

Indeed. Same with the “workers’ paradise” hooey.

I believe every word of it. Best regards, aengus. Hold the fort over there,

Entelechy on March 23, 2009 at 1:27 AM

Barak Obama has made it perfectly clear that the last thing in the world he wants is to be “just like the guys on the dollar bills.”

His only goal in life is to get as far away from their legacy as he possibly can — and to take America with him.

Deanna on March 23, 2009 at 2:00 AM

Yup. TOTUS is only the marionette strings, someone else is doing the manipulating.

Looking at his/their inability to populate Treasury and such it is evident that they are incompetent, but perhaps we should be considering other reasons as well, possibilities include:
1) They are unwilling to share/dilute their power.
2) They cannot find that many people they can trust to participate in a conspiracy without exposing their plans.

I believe the first is confirmed. The second I fear is so as well.

Even in college when he was appointed to run the Harvard Review it was most likely because he is Black.
Deanna on March 23, 2009 at 2:00 AM

Nonsense. The only possible reason Barak Obama could have had for hiding his school records is because he got straight A’s, and he doesn’t want the world to have too high an opinion of him.

UnAmerican all the way. Sadly.

Shame that all his foreign connections and overseas raising and non-American bigamist Communist African Papa and his Madrassa days and his refusal to release mounds of documents to include his birth certificate weren’t enough to tip us off…

Maquis on March 23, 2009 at 2:12 AM

No he’s not punch drunk. I saw the same thing Kroft saw when Obama debated McCain, and the war hero stated that Obama began his political career at a coffee meeting in the home of unrepentant terrorist Bill Ayers.

Obama didn’t defend, or minimize, or attempt to refute the claim. Instead, he laughed. That’s all.

But it wasn’t a humble “aw come on” laugh. It was the laugh of a sociopath knowing he’s getting away with something.

That’s what Kroft saw.

jeff_from_mpls on March 22, 2009 at 9:56 PM

I’m actually beginning to think Obama is a sociaopath. It is simply mad to propose his agenda right now.

It is mad to go all the way to California when his Treasury Department is not staffed. It is madness.

What are we going to do with a madman as President? He hasn’t even surrounded himself with anyone competent to lead as a shadow leader. Like Kissinger, Nixon’s people might have been ethically challanged but they weren’t complete idiots like the folks Obama surrounds himself with.

Who is going to lead? Carville? And Noone better say Biden bbecause that is just ridiculus!

People here talk like there is some way to get rid of him before his term is up and there isn’t! A man like this knows how not to break the law. And he is a control freak on the lines of Stalin. Anyone with talent and he doesn’t want them close.

Obama is the worst disaster in American history.

Night all.

Cheers.

Wolfgang Petry’s words, appropriate now, but a hard translation.

Heuten Morgen

Oh Ich lieb dich
Mein Gott leben lohnt sich

Es sind Kleinigkeit die mir immer zeigen
Wie selbst in unseren Zeiten
Unser Glück wo jemand ganz anders denkt
Und ich wünsche mir so sehr
Weiter so zu fühlen wie bisher
Leben lohnt sich

He is a Russian Nationalist – a frigheningly intelligent and dangerous one – but there is no evidence that he is acting on the basis of Marxist principles. If anything it’s the West that is Communist-leaning and Putin is acting out of pure national self-interest.

aengus on March 23, 2009 at 2:01 AM

Yes I would agree. Putin is Russian Nationalist and Russia doesn’t have a history of representive government. And they come by communes through history so that way would always be more natural for them than us.

What I think is scariest about Putin is his totalitarian tendency. And his sense that parts of the old USSR that Russia might have some historical claim to are part of his agenda.

World dominance and regaining national honor… remaining a super power, etc. Those are more important to Putin than Marxist type government I think.

petunia on March 23, 2009 at 2:13 AM

And not in the psychiatric sense either. He quite literally hates American society. He’s been taught since birth that America is an evil land, based on slavery, that wants to kill him and everyone who looks like him.

There are literally MILLIONS of black Americans who feel that way. But many people would rather die than admit it’s possible that Obama might be a member of that “imaginary conspiracy.”

What incredibly rational reason do they have for believing that? Because Barak Obama is soft-spoken — and even went to college for crying out loud; ergo, he can’t be “really” black. And the only possible reason anyone could have for not sharing their opinion is because everyone other than them is a racist.
