Obamateurism of the Day

posted at 7:53 am on March 22, 2009 by Ed Morrissey
Share on Facebook | printer-friendly

This is a clip from a few days ago, and in this case, it’s not so much what he says as the obvious fact that he got lost on his Teleprompter while saying it. Watch President Obama look nervously left and right trying to find the thread of his remarks, and drop into the Department of Redundancy Department when he does:

There are those who say that the plans in this budget are too ambitious to enact. To say that, uh … they say uh, in the face of challenges, uh, that we face, we should be trying to do less than more.

In the face of challenges that we face? It’s facing those challenging challenges that really challenge us to our face.

Got an Obamateurism of the Day? If you see a foul-up by Barack Obama, e-mail it to me at obamaisms@edmorrissey.com with the quote and the link to the Obamateurism. I’ll post the best Obamateurisms on a daily basis, depending on how many I receive. Include a link to your blog, and I’ll give some link love as well. And unlike Slate, I promise to end the feature when Barack Obama leaves office.

My wife’s father was an illegal — barred from entering the US under the Alien Exclusion Acts. He got in anyway, as a result of the San Francisco Earthquake — a Paper Son. So, since we’ve walked a mile in those moccisans, we’re a bit sensitive in my home to the plight of the illegal alien………………

I hear ya buddy….and I can relate.

My Great Uncle was a gay cannibal, so we’re a bit sensitive in my home to the plight of Jeffrey Dahmer…

My uncle was a mass murderer, so we’re a bit sensitive in my home to the plight of Son of Sam….

And my Second Cousin Twice removed (on my mother’s side of course!) was a domestic abuser, so we’re a bit sensitive in my home to the plight of Domestic Abusers…

………..I’m guessing they are the kinds of people who turned in slaves fleeing via the Underground Railroad — law abiding citizens, no matter what the law.

Joe Biden God love em

Obama, the first president in decades not to attend the Gridiron Club dinner during his first year in office, couldn’t make it because he’s busy preparing for Easter, Biden said.

“He thinks it’s about him,” Biden said of the holiday.

William Amos

Did I miss something? I thought Easter wasn’t for 3 weeks yet? What kind of preparations does he have to make? Perhaps laying the eggs so the girls can color them? By the way, what church has Obama chosen to attend? Is he even attending church?

gobblemom on March 22, 2009 at 10:48 AM

Obama is The Church; he doesn’t need to attend one. As Louis Farrakhan said, “He is The One we’ve been waiting for.”

Sadly, there is an element of truth in Biden’s snark.

Pardon me while I go puke.

Then his picks that he posts on the White House website prove stunningly inept. They fall out at the 5 percentile level after 2 days according to ESPN.

He posted his picks on thew WH site!! My God. With Treasury not staffed, and all the other Foriegn policy stuff building can he please quit going on ESPN & Leno and stay in washington and do his job. And now he is doing 60 minutes this Sunday. If it wasn’t so sad & terrifing it would be funny.

Kevin in Southern Illinois on March 22, 2009 at 11:09 AM

Ed, I like this idea. Since Obama has such thin skin and can’t take a joke about him, this will be such fun. Faux humility.

Are we limiting it to Dear Leader or is Biden included?

conservative pilgrim on March 22, 2009 at 11:10 AM

I think he needs Sylvan and STAT! First, he needs to take an American history class and then Econ for Dummies. You know these boo-boos and blunders are good for a laugh, until you realize this moron can press all the red buttons! GOD SAVE US!

The winner for last week though has to be Brown not being able to play the DVDs Man-Child gave him! That was a hoot!

And to think we had to listen to 8 bleeping years of the MSM ripping Bush for him supposedly being soooooo stupid! UGH! This guy in 8 weeks has managed to basically tick off most of our allies and make our enemies feel they could easily attack us. He has nuked our freedoms/democracy and in 8 weeks sounded more like Elmer Fudd than POTUS!

ESPN has been doing “Baracktology” updates. Groan. After Round 1 he was in 5%! My four-year old’s bracket was doing better than his! He bounced up to 40% yesterday, which is still laughable. Especially from a basketball aficionado such as The One.

On Espn radio yesterday, the hosts were blasting the Coaches, specifically calling out Coach K, for telling Obama to focus on the economy and not brackets. The three guys proceeded to defend Obama and tell the coaches to “lighten up.” Gee, I wonder who they voted for???

Manufactured intelligence. Put on the preacher voice and read a working teleprompter and you get elected president. But without that teleprompter, you are SCREWED. Barack-O = fail.

Say what you want about Clinton, but he was smart, knew the issues and could freestyle with the best of them. Barack-O is a hollow shell of a politician that has NO idea what he should say without his trusty teleprompter. What an ass.

Makes me like this video even more.

I once heard a stand-up comedian ask: “Do you even know anyone WHO KNOWS ANYONE who likes Geraldo Rivera?”

Seriously, though, Fox is perfectly aware that his ratings suck. But that fruit loop was in on the ground floor and helped get that network started from nothing. He’s nothing but an embarassment now, but he’ll have a place there intil the day he dies.

And I’m sure that everyone at Fox (with the glaring exception of Mr. Rivera himself) hopes that day will come soon.

I very strongly believe the election of The One is a right wing conspiracy. We put a lame candidate to oppose him and he puts a show on (lame fight) to pretend he wanted to win. So when he loses, and BO wins, we could ALL then SEE what we were in for and to show the country (and the world) what happens anytime we elect a member of the Donkey Party.

Country and the World will ignore this NO LONGER.

Unfortunately I can not take 4 more days let alone 4 years of this administration.

Hooboy, are you off in your history of Rivera at Fox News! Geraldo cam on board at the beginning of the War on Terror back in 2003. Rivera’s prior show was tanking in the ratings, and he desperately needed something to boost his career and make his schtick saleable again to the networks and/or cable news channels.

So Geraldo cut a deal with Fox in which he would go over and personally report on the war from the Iraq frontlines, in return for his own show.

Rivera no more made FNC the number one rated cable news show today than Alan Colmes made Sean Hannity one of their top stars.

jukin on March 22, 2009 at 1:46 PM

I don’t think you mean to imply that race has anything to do with intelligence, competence, character, or morality.

Obama is not the least intelligent President, nor the most incompetent, although he seems capable of winning the incompetence title. And he is certainly the most extremely left-wing President we have had at least in my lifetime, if not ever.

And therein is the great danger if he can effectively enact and administer his extremist policies. And this is why I actually hope he is as incompetent as these first two months make him seem.

To the extent race was a factor in Obama’s election, it was the manner in which commentators and voters reacted to his race.

Some thought that he was someone who overcame great obstacles due to his race, but I don’t see that. Nonetheless, this caused many people to overlook aspects of his personality and agenda that they might not otherwise.

Some wanted to prove they aren’t racist, when they might actually have been so once, or still are racist. Also, some wanted to prove to the world that our country isn’t racist.

After all, who likes racists? Racism is based on ugly and irrational beliefs that dehumanize the victims as well as the believers, regardless of the racial identity of the person advocating it.

Conservatives get a bad name for being racists. And I must admit that I’ve met some conservatives and Republicans who are racist. It’s always disappointing. Then again, I’ve met far more liberals and Democrats who are racist. It seems to fit better into their world view, in which nearly all humans are mere pawns in some vast social power struggle.

I must say that I have never considered myself racist, and in the area I live it really isn’t much of an issue anyway.

But, in the last campaign the liberals and democrats have me considering the fact that they may actually have pushed me fairly close to being there. Their incessant use of the *race card* as a political weapon and their blatant hypocrisy could tend to make normal people extremely resentful of such tactics. Anyone who would deny that they used such tactics to their benefit would be either a liar, or too naive to be allowed out alone in public.

A good operator can set the talent up so that they will be able to babble and then go back to the text without looking too stupid. It is a learned skill. That being said, O’s operator just sat on the text, which is what you do when you’re inexperienced or if you want to screw over the talent.

Make your own conclusions.

A teleprompter is a terrible thing to waste….

Last night on Fox’s Newswatch, Jan Hall (Jane Hall!!!!) said that Obama is risking over exposure in the media. Her words were that he is “everywhere”: Leno, CA town hall, meeting with Ahnold, 60 Minutes tonight, his presser on Tuesday, and that he really should back off a bit.

Jane Hall said that!

I hope he listens. I’m tired of his mug.

I love this! This is why I call him pres-uhhh-dent Uhhh-bama.

Still hoping somebody finds a way to get into his teleprompter and insert goofy sentences for Glorious Leader. Might even get me to listen to one of his televised oratories just for the chuckles.

It’s like watching a Muppet while the muppeteer below it is having a sneezing fit.

Reading a speech from a teleprompter is actually quite difficult. It’s unnatural for the speaking voice. I would give him some credit for being able to do it as well as he has, but when he flubs it or gets lost with it, he is really quite awful.

Sadly, reading the teleprompter is his best skill. His best skill and he mucks it up more often than someone with his teleprompting talent should.

Love me some sweet teleprompter action on a Sunday afternoon!

………. it’s the evil cousin of the TOTUS,

the White House Phone or WHPOTUS, that keeps ringing at 3:00AM…….

WHPOTUS; “(Ring……….. Ring…….. Ring……… Ring……. Ring…… Ring…… )

Mr. Teleprompter; “Will SOMEONE answer that g*d damned phone…………

………….. I can’t concentrate on what I am reading!!”

Thanks for that link. I never thought I’d actually MISS Bush and think a video like that was nostalgic, but wow, Obama sure fixed that.

Actually, reading from a teleprompter is not difficult at all. If you can read aloud to your kids, you can read a teleprompter. Do you really think all the news readers on local tv are smart and talented? Trust me, theyr’e not.

However, there is a talent to improvising on teleprompter and recovering when you’re lost.

Why are people making fun of the Administration?

We should just be happy we have as President a mainstream African-American who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy.

I mean, that’s a storybook, man.

malclave on March 22, 2009 at 7:55 PM

This guy is a phony and the press knew it. This country has been had.

Where is the video of BHO thanking himself when he screws up with the Irish PM?

It’s got to be out there somewhere????
