Obamateurism of the Day

posted at 7:53 am on March 22, 2009 by Ed Morrissey
Share on Facebook | printer-friendly

This is a clip from a few days ago, and in this case, it’s not so much what he says as the obvious fact that he got lost on his Teleprompter while saying it. Watch President Obama look nervously left and right trying to find the thread of his remarks, and drop into the Department of Redundancy Department when he does:

There are those who say that the plans in this budget are too ambitious to enact. To say that, uh … they say uh, in the face of challenges, uh, that we face, we should be trying to do less than more.

In the face of challenges that we face? It’s facing those challenging challenges that really challenge us to our face.

Got an Obamateurism of the Day? If you see a foul-up by Barack Obama, e-mail it to me at obamaisms@edmorrissey.com with the quote and the link to the Obamateurism. I’ll post the best Obamateurisms on a daily basis, depending on how many I receive. Include a link to your blog, and I’ll give some link love as well. And unlike Slate, I promise to end the feature when Barack Obama leaves office.

I wish I could hope that he would grow into the office but his administration is spiraling out of control faster than he is ruining the economy. It is equally frightening that the GOP in 2010 may be our last best hope.

We must all face the music that we are facing an opponent who is the face of incompetence, and our best way to face him is to let his own face destroy himself in a face-off.

I’m happy to be one of 52 million people (mostly Americans) that did not cast their vote for this often incoherent doofus.

This nitwit is an embarassment to everything he touches.

Takes time out to fill out a bracket while he should be doing his job because he sees himself as a big time Basketball buff. Played in high school, you see, didn’t start. Big whoop.

Then his picks that he posts on the White House website prove stunningly inept. They fall out at the 5 percentile level after 2 days according to ESPN.

To follow thst up he goes on Leno and makes fun of Special Olympic athletes.

I mean you couldn’t make this crap up. Harvard Law should be ashamed.

Lose a debate . . . he has never participated in a serious unscripted debate. He only does a monologue and even that must be electronically prompted. Furthermore, unless in some dictionary ‘arrogant” is synonymous with “thoughtful” that definition is also inaccurate. On the other hand, I can certainly understand why he must use the teleprompter to preclude him from becoming lost in a fog of random firing synapse connections.

Heartache: after hearing from readers, William Safire, in his weekly NYT On Language column, offers a couple of suggestions to Obama.

http://www.nytimes.com/2009/03/22/magazine/22wwln-safire-t.html?_r=1&partner=rssnyt&emc=rss&pagewanted=print

The column opens:

Because they are not privy to President Obama’s BlackBerry number, and because they can find my e-mail address printed invitingly at the bottom of this column, the legion of grammanatics — those stern prescriptivists living in syntax who make up the Gotcha! Gang — write to me with examples of presidential errors in English accompanied by the message “Tell him to cut it out.”

BuckeyeSam on March 22, 2009 at 9:12 AM

Change We Can Reset

Impeach overcharge pass the buck that stops nowhere Obama.

His duration is only secured by the veil we impose over our own eyes, as easily cast aside as not, and more easily sooner than later.

Nada Obama characterizes the Goblin King sprung into “reality” by impulsive youths’ blaming Bush for their own interpretation of responsibility. Jareth represents self inflicted pain in a self tolerant labyrinth where every Constitution reference is tossed into an oubliette.

As in the movie, OUR Labyrinth climaxes in Jareth’s multi-dimensional, M. C. Escher-inspired castle. The Goblin King makes a final appeal for us to abandon our Constitutional quest and stay with him (Be my slave, obey my every wish, and I will love you). To get released from the clutches of our own making, we must recite the monologue from the beginning of our nation’s founding just as Sarah recalls the final line of her opening monologue. The words that Sarah had kept forgetting throughout: “You have no power over me!” Thus, initially forgotten and temporarily abandoned for the drama to unfold, the recapitulation is complete given its authentic cadence to conclude on solid ground at home. The elitist Goblin King’s castle of Socialist Feudalism crumbles to oblivion as Sarah finds herself home in the front hall with the clock striking midnight, witnessing Jareth the Goblin King flying away as a nocturnal vision, aka nightmare.

Characters appear in our “home” reality by invitation, electoral vote, or by breaking and entering. There are means at hand to legitimately dismiss officials who corrupt our constitutional government. Impeach!

Really tired of seeing dear leader’s mug everywhere. Really, I can’t recall being constantly inundated with a former president’s face as much as this narcissist Obama. Take this week’s media blitz: first it’s California town hall meetings, then the Tonight Show, followed by his dorky Saturday morning YouTube address, then 60 minutes, and finally his second nationally televised press-conference on Tuesday. Give me an effin’ break. Get off the tv, get out of my living room, and do your stinking job already!

becki51758 on March 22, 2009 at 9:34 AM

Not a lot of “change” if you look a little closer to the real power:

1967
Congressman Wright Patman, then the Chairman Of The House Banking And Currency Committee, stated in Congress,
“In the United States today, we have in effect two governments…We have the duly constituted government…Then we have an independent, uncontrolled and uncoordinated government in the Federal Reserve System, operating the money powers which are reserved to Congress by the Constitution.”

If the private (hidden) accounts of every elected official were examined, you will find Federal Reserve manipulation working behind privately closed doors.

The Oath of Office is to uphold the Constitution of the United States of America, not to alter it.

The President’s Constitutional responsibility is to secure our borders and protect our national security as Commander in Chief.

This past week, Potus Obama has attacked our nation’s population, sneering at the mentally and physically challenged whether that way by birth or accident, and threatening the permanent welfare of our troops who suffer SACRIFICE for love of our Constitution as love of home’s sanctity.

With extreme prejudicial antipathy, Obama selects whom he accepts as deserving equality under the law.

Michelle has already made clear the only two to get pie are her girls. By her own choosing, she is not our nation’s first lady, but self appointed empress.

So it begins. Immigration psuhers demand an end to all immigration raids and deportations

William Amos on March 22, 2009 at 9:39 AM

So it begins? Here’s the Pope from a year ago.

My wife’s father was an illegal — barred from entering the US under the Alien Exclusion Acts. He got in anyway, as a result of the San Francisco Earthquake — a Paper Son. So, since we’ve walked a mile in those moccisans, we’re a bit sensitive in my home to the plight of the illegal alien. And having the Pope on our side is icing on the cake, as is having Abraham Lincoln as well.

People who want harsh immigration laws (even against illegals) are certainly not the “progeny” of Lincoln — they are, rather, the “progeny” of his adversaries, the Know Nothings. I’m guessing they are the kinds of people who turned in slaves fleeing via the Underground Railroad — law abiding citizens, no matter what the law.
