The World Will Test Us, Part III

posted at 12:10 pm on March 21, 2009 by Ed Morrissey

Joe Biden tried to warn America; he really did.  In October, while campaigning for his running mate, Biden predicted what would happen if America elected an untested, inexperienced, single-term Senator as President:

“Mark my words,” the Democratic vice presidential nominee warned at the second of his two Seattle fundraisers Sunday. “It will not be six months before the world tests Barack Obama like they did John Kennedy. The world is looking.”

Indeed the world is, er, looking.  And Russia, which floated the notion of basing its bombers in Cuba last week, gave the US Navy up-close looks at its bombers twice this week:

Two Russian planes flew within 500 feet of U.S. Navy ships participating in military drills with South Korea, military officials said.

After trying unsuccessfully to contact the pilots, U.S. fighter jets met up with the Russian planes and flew with them until they left the area, CNN reported.

One incident occurred Monday, when Russian Ilyushin IL-38 maritime patrol aircraft flew over the aircraft carrier USS John C. Stennis while it was in international waters in the Sea of Japan. The Russian aircraft flew within 500 feet of the carrier, which was lower than other Russian flyovers in the past year, military officials said.

On Tuesday, two Russian long-range bombers overflew the Stennis and the USS Blue Ridge several times at about 2,000 feet, U.S. military officials told CNN.

Earlier this month, the Chinese started harassing an unarmed Navy exploration vessel, requiring the US to send armed escorts into the international waters of the South China Sea.  North Korea is about to launch an ICBM with a reported range that easily includes American territory.  Moscow has flipped Kyrgyzstan and put our supply routes into Afghanistan in jeopardy.

Biden was right; they’re testing the mettle of the new President.  Evidentally, they’re finding that he doesn’t have much, and they’re becoming more and more arrogant about their provocations.

“but..but..but..I thought the world would love us now?”

LOL, becki51758 ! But this is what happens when some one who is not fit to be a dog catcher becomes POTUS.

Interestingly, the way I see it, Obama has been a miserable failure in every real job that he has pursued – first it was community organizer, next it was Illinois state legislator and then of course IL junior senator. he also failed to bring any meaningful change to the education system in Chicago after pairing up with terrorist Ayers and serving on the Woods foundation.

The only thing Obama has ever been successful at is in self promotion. Notice how miserably he has failed while trying to promote the “stimulus” or the health care nonsense. Heck, EVEN a die hard supporter like Warren Buffet called him out on his “handling” of the economic situation.

The biggest affirmative action hire in this nation’s history is becoming an absolute joke.

Not to worry, Joe Biden and Nancy Pelosi are waiting in the wings – the very thought of that makes me shudder.

nagee76 on March 21, 2009 at 12:24 PM

This is the kind of statement and sentiment that gives self-identified conservatives a bad name. We are all Americans, whether socialist, democrat, republican, or ethnic supremists of all ilk. To wish destruction on Americans by outside forces is beyond the pale (google “beyond the pale” – that’s Irish you know). I know you can make that pronouncement with the expectation that you won’t be affected in East Overshoe, Indiana. However, the people in Oklahma City found out that bad things happen in smaller population centers in the red states.

Don’t bring a community organizer to a fight for global dominance.

the_nile on March 21, 2009 at 12:17 PM

Interesting role reversal here for Obama. In the good old days of community organizing, Obama and his ACORN buddies could bully local governments and lending institutions with meritless accusations of racial discrimination. Obama and his ilk prevailed because public-relations concerns and white guilt prompted these governments and lending institutions to acquiesce in being extorted.

Now, Obama is essentially in the position of the local governments and lending institutions, and he’s getting pushed around by all sides. Bullies respond to only one thing. Indeed, I have a DVD for Obama–A Christmas Story. Fast forward to the scene in which frustrated Ralphie finally beats the snot out of bully Scott Farkus and crummy little toady Grover Dill. Deep down, we all know this is true.

And on a more cerebral note, Obama, keep in mind what Edmund Burke is supposed to have written: “Evil happens when good men do nothing.”

1 Vice President and President of the Senate Joe Biden
2 Speaker of the House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi
3 President pro tempore of the Senate Robert Byrd
4 Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton
5 Secretary of the Treasury Timothy Geithner

11 Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Shaun Donovan
12 Secretary of Transportation Ray LaHood

Please consider the consequences of promoting such a world view. And if you can’t consider the impact on others, think about yourself. We currently live in a country governed by Democrats. If you are a crime victim, do you want the police or FBI checking your political affiliations before they decide whether to help you? Equal justice for all.

Here’s what I don’t get. Don’t major ships, like aircraft carriers, or even destroyers, have a no-fly zone around them? Remember the Vincennes shot down that airbus because it came within about 15 miles of it. Why would the Navy allow a military aircraft to even come close to its ships, especially the carriers?

Hey Dr Evil, did it ever occur to you that Bill Maher is a complete imbecile and the Congressional Black Caucus is RACIST?

Consider that thought.

I see that there are several commnets about Obama leaving the white house in the midst of one of these crises. Now cut that out! (a la Jack Benny). Throughout the Bush administration, everytime Bush stuck his nose out the door of the white house, went to Crawford, or had a state dinner, etc. he was criticised by the marxist/democrats as not doing a day’s work, insensitive to problems, dancing while he was having black people killed in Katrina, or partying while our soldiers were dying in (name it). Now we conservatives are kinder and gentler than the marxist/democrats. So let’s not treat them like they treated Bush. Maybe they will learn from the example (in a pigs eye).
