Lets also include student loans and grants.

DSchoen on March 24, 2009 at 12:37 AM

First of all, student grants (like Pell) are peanuts. This is painful experience speaking. Monies allocated for federal college assistance have become a cruel joke. We have however found reason to spend billions on a few certain military escapades...but that discussion should wait for another thread.

Secondly, those grants and loans usually produce something useful - people with a college education. Lots of them.

I guess the buses won't be going to The Greenbrier to look for rich folks to bully -- the resort has filed for Chapter 11 protection and has apparently cut a deal with Marriott. I've stayed there twice, thanks to relatives who have more cash than I, and saw Ron Howard and his family enjoying the amenities. Our waiter said that Howard goes there a couple of times a year to relax. Yeah...he and Andy Griffith did that pro-Obama video before the election. I wonder where Opie will go if the Greenbrier becomes just another Marriott? Feh.

entagor
“Retention bonuses are not severance pay, they are supposedly spent to keep people from leaving, as if blackmail is an natural part of taxpayer bailouts”

Regardless of the reason for the bonuses, they were in the employee contracts, it was not “hidden” it was not “unknown”.

It was agreed to not by AIG but by OUR government, meaning Obama and the Dem Congress wrote it into the STIM bill that these bonuses, and the authorization to pay them WAS NOT in the TARP bill (bailout) it was in the Stim Bill
Obama’s stimulus bill!

Look, if I have a written, legal, binding, singed contract that says if I mow X lawn I get paid $100,000,000.00
and I mow that lawn I will get paid $100,000,000.00
In this case, Obama created a written, legal, binding, singed contract with AIG. I have no idea what all the requirements were for AIG to fulfill that contract, but they did.

If they hadn’t the bonuses wouldn’t have been paid.
If you got a problem with the bonuses being paid it’s not with AIG or their employees, it’s with Obama and his merry band of fools.

AIG is a bunch of crooks. They did not deserve the bonuses. We should not have given them any tax money if the bonuses were to be paid because these same crooks led the speculation of the nations insurance underwriting.

Okay I agree. So why did Obama and the Congressional dems that wrote the stim bill insist that these bonuses be PAID!

“The Acorn protest was all air and less than the crooks deserved. Protestors had letters to deliver asking the crooks to help them or their friends keep their houses. I have no trouble watching those folk tell their stories”

That would be the Acorn folks that Obama and CO sent out.

I want to hear from EVERY member of Congress who voted FOR the STIM bill WITHOUT reading it to get up in front of the American people and explain their stupidity.

After that, they should RESIGN!

Same for Obama’s admin.

AIG is a bunch of crooks. They did not deserve the bonuses. We should not have given them any tax money if the bonuses were to be paid because these same crooks led the speculation of the nations insurance underwriting.

Had AIG failed you would have seen a crowd with pitchforks at those homes and it would not have been Acorn members, so the crooks of AIG got off easy

AIG was the biggest insurance underwriter and many of the nickel and dime policies would not be replaceable because they were age dependent or dependent on contracts guaranteed for the life of the contract. And uninsured

The Acorn protest was all air and less than the crooks deserved. Protestors had letters to deliver asking the crooks to help them or their friends keep their houses. I have no trouble watching those folk tell their stories.

It was similar to the tea parties which were highly weighted to white senior citizen (patriots IMHO) who were also given more credibility than their numbers which were bigger than acorn and no buses.

Both protests were ogranized i.e. rallied, relatively small groups used to get camera time and the MSM played up the Obama side which did not go against public sentiment despite HA opinions

As far as scaring the children, these crooks were stealing the shirts off the backs of little people everywhere with no regard to scaring their children. They are so far removed from the destruction they have wreaked in helping crash this economy they have no feel for how scared children of unemployed and evicted parents are every day and how merciless the bankers are pulling out the rug from under the millions they conned into balloons to keep theor mortgage fees and refi numbers cranking

I can understand a cop with a stick coming in and telling the protestors, ok folk, time to move on, but the hissy fit and shock at the 'brown shirts' terrorizing the bad AIGs is not propoprtional to what the bad AIGs did to Americans

Retention bonuses are not severance pay, they are supposedly spent to keep people from leaving, as if blackmail is an natural part of taxpayer bailouts.

I think the protestors did AIG crooks a favor because they are so far in la la land they think it cannot get worse

HOW DID ACORN GET THE ADDRESSES OF THE AIG EXECS WHO RECEIVED BONUSES? - This has got to be a story.
HondaV65

From that F/F B. Frank.
Remember he asked that AIG CEO for the names and address of all AIG’s that got the money

YOU WOULD THINK, SHE ALONG WITH A HUSBAND WORTH AN ESTIMATED BILLION DOLLARS, WOULD LEASE OR BUY AND FLY THEIR OWN PLANE, OR FLY FIRST CLASS ON COMMERCIAL AIRLINES LIKE OTHER RICH PEOPLE.

Hum?

I wonder how much of her own BILLION dollars she will part with to support the “new” Tiny Tim bank rescue plan?

Anything less than $999,990,000.00 I would view as “no faith" this plan will work.

"Every Representative and Senator who voted for that legislation should ante up and pay the taxpayers back the $168 million!"

They wouldn’t be able to do that “Personally” however why not dock their pet ‘earmark” projects till we get it back?

In total that would NOT be a lot spread over all Representative and Senator who voted for this bs but we could start with the most egregious violators like

Frank, Who wanted the names and address of all AIG’s that got the money.

Dodd, who wrote this F/UP

And that clown who warned AIG to “give our money back!

One amusing anecdote: The protesters stopped at one point in an organic grocery store and were suprised to learn that many AIG execs were shoppers there, and that according to the store’s proprietor, they were actually very nice people.

We have met the enemy and... he... is... us!
