Setting the mobs loose
posted at 3:05 pm on March 21, 2009 by Ed Morrissey
Just in case people didn’t figure out what the end result of all this faux outrage over AIG bonuses would be, New York Magazine reports on the latest in liberal-populist tourism. Community organizers for Connecticut Working Families Party want to send busloads of outrageously outraged people to the doorsteps of AIG executives’ homes … and claim that they don’t want to put them at risk. Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight:
The Connecticut Working Families Party this weekend has organized a bus store that will make stops at Wilton, Connecticut, AIG office as well as the security-patrolled homes of AIG execs who are fearing for their lives.
“We’re going to be peaceful and lawful in everything we do,” said Jon Green, the director of Connecticut Working Families. “I know there’s a lot of anger and a lot of rage about what’s happened. We’re not looking to foment that unnecessarily, but what we want to do is give folks in Bridgeport and Hartford and other parts of Connecticut who are struggling and losing their homes and their jobs and their health insurance an opportunity to see what kinds of lifestyle billions of dollars in credit-default swaps can buy.”
Right, they’re not fomenting rage, they’re just encouraging it. So if you happen to record someone’s address so you can return in the dead of night, it’s not like Working Families told you to! We know we sound paranoid and we really can’t believe we’re actually on the same side as Rush, but this is getting way out of hand. Oh, to have fat ladies in high heels clogging up the West Village again.
Remember when Bill Clinton accused conservative talk radio of fomenting hate? What does he have to say about his colleagues in the Obama administration and the Democratic Party? (via King Banaian)
Update: What a shock — CWFP is an arm of ACORN. (h/t: Instapundit)
Update II: Turns out to be quite a bust. First, it attracted more press than protesters, a rather ironic twist on the Tea Party protests, which garner thousands which are mostly ignored by the media. Here are the people following the anticlimactic fizzle:

This is the left ginning up some good ol’ fashion class warfare. As obama would say, it’s a distraction. A distraction to divert attention away from the nationalization of the banks, and maybe a few other industries, too.

Who’s the drama queen?
Rush & Ed over the fomenting of public outrage about the AIG bonuses?
Or, Obama and members of Congress repeatedly expressing outrage over the AIG bonuses, which they knew or should have known last year were going to be paid, then inserted and approved a clause in the February Stimulus Bill which explicitly changed the existing law governing that could have restricted those bonuses and instead, allowed them to be paid?
Who is playing a game with drama here?

The US finance has deteriorated further to the point that the buyer of last resort, the Fed, has to buy the US sovereign debts. This is a sign of desperation.
The Fed gambles that China and the rest of the world will not dump Treasury and Agency bonds. We will find out in the coming weeks and months how this high-stake gamble works out. I doubt the result will be positive.
It had looked like the dollar reserve currency status will be lost in 3-5 years. Now I think it is more likely to be in the next 2-3 years.
We will have price inflation, perhaps doubt digit inflation, but not hyperinflation, which destroys bankers and the Fed itself.
Monetary deflation may continue, despite the promised Fed printing. 2009 is not 2003, when the debt machine was cranking out debts at the full speed – mortgages, car loans, muni bonds, cooperate bonds, IPO’s, buyout’s, swaps, etc, etc. Now the government and the Fed are the only source of debt creation. It also depends on how the rest of the world reacts. If dollar assets are getting dumped, the monetary deflation will continue with China diversifying out of dollar and into resources.
The positive impacts on stocks may be limited and short-lived. Right now, “everybody” believes that a bottom was made on March 6/9, as the Fed announcement changed the liquidity picture. The announcement is more like an act of desperation, signaling deteriorating problems underneath.
Most of the printed money will be dumped into the black hole of endless bailouts, handouts and bonuses. It is unclear how much liquidity will spill over to the stock market and the real economy.

I’m not sure it’s in every morning paper, but in Friedman’s article entitled “Amid anger of AIG,……” There is a picture of professional protesters. The one with the megaphone whipping people up is wearing and arafat/palestinian scarf. Makes you wonder about the acorn people. His face is mostly hidden by the megaphone and some kind of mike in his hand, but from what you can see he is middle eastern, or from buffalo, or michigan.
What in the heck have we released on this country? Will we survive this administration and he community organizer/organizer in chief?

What is the question?
getalife on March 21, 2009 at 7:09 PM
To me, this Osama Obama-orchestrated “working families” crap is planned to act in much the same way as a manufactured “incident” on the German-Polish border was the act that gave a certain German leader “cover” to send in the troops….
I have no doubt at all that we will see other signs of “public outrage,” fueled by the words of the child-president, that will allow his Congressional pets to enact other, more draconian, measures.
Impeachment or resignation: the only way the nation can survive.

If you had any idea the energy trolls give us. If you had any idea how the lefts overreaching unites us, you’d be less smug my friend. Grassroots grow on both sides. We are still half, at least half of this nation. The greatness of Conservatism is still in the future of this country. And when it returns, I pray we remember the way liberals treated us when they were in power. I pray then we do everything we can to wipe it off the face of the Earth.
Good bye and I hope someday it occurs to you the damage liberals are doing to the country. It’s funny, it used to be so easy to deploy. We always held this belief in our hearts that we defended all Americans and the Constitution against all enemies foreign and domestic. I never thought I’d have to worry more about the domestic. You know this one thing. I don’t deploy for liberals like you. I deploy in spite of liberals like you.
BTW, your last comment here should be posted on every thread you enter so commenters know what you’re about.

Do you even know the terms of the bonus arrangements, either with Congress or between AIG and the employees?

Did Congress have any restrictions on bonus payments to AIG employees?

Nancy Pelosi
Nancy Pelosi
11/8/02 — Last updated: 03/21/2009 12:27:26
California (San Francisco) Rep. Pelosi will become new congressional minority leader, replacing Gephardt. Some info about Pelosi: Pelosi sits on the Advisory Board of an organization called Immigrant Legal Resource Center (ILRC) along with California State Senator John Burton and former CA Supreme Court Justice Cruz Reynoso (removed from the bench by the voters). This ILRC, on May 10, 2002, sent a letter of strong support to another organization that calls itself AZTECS of NORTH AMERICA COMMITTEE. That committee demands the U.S. border with Mexico be opened to all from Mexico who wish to cross, demanding free passage both ways between the United States of Mexico and the United States of America, calling them descendants of the AZTECS and deserving of an open border. They say the Jay Treaty of 1794 says so. Pelosi supports them. So obviously Pelosi favors erasure of our southern border. — E.M. of Irvine, California

I agree with both of you but class warfare was inflamed the minute Obama started campaigning. To perpetuate it will only have detrimental effects on the angry mobs. You get people pissed off enough over something they will never have and violence erupts. Typically that occurs in their own environs – LA riots for example. In this case, if anyone of these participants decided to take down an address and return to the CT home, then this Working Family association and the rogue mob member will be 100% culpable.

They have hit on all points of this rule concerning AIG and the employees with bonuses. I get it, but to what end? What advantage will these Acorn mobsters achieve by ridiculing? I understand the tactic taken by WH as he used with Rush et al. There was an endgame for Obama and his cronies but they don’t need gas cards or jobs. So what I am saying is I think in the end this is the most ridiculous venture. To take a bus trip to ridicule and shame somebody on a Saturday will only end up further frustrating those that went and that is the dangerous effect.

Agreed. And I hope nothing like that happens anywhere in our country. However, threats and intimidation tactics are used because they work for a large percentage of the population. Many get intimidated and, like dhimmis, start complying. Others over-react, and you get violence or other wildly inappropriate actions in response to non-violent intimidation, which is sometimes wanted by those making the threats. It’s only a small percentage of the population that can be intimidated and respond strongly, yet appropriately.
This is a dangerous ploy, the outcome of which cannot be predicted.

I believe it’s simple to show how well these people live to further class envy. I think it’s also meant to intimidate private citizens from fighting back. These people were promised these bonuses before the bank failures and for tenure. It was money promised two years ago to get them to stay in a division that was being phased out and which had no future. The very actions of the Congress taxing them at 90 percent and government organizing the public humiliation is right from the play book.
See a news shot of a big house with a “500,00 bonus” stamp hitting it crooked like they do and the uniformed will think it’s an outrage. Regular Americans have become convinced that they’re the starving peasants of Moscow in the early 1900s and this is meant to organize them into the mindset that collective thinking, or collective hate, will unite them against a common enemy. The enemy is the rich.
This is becoming a country where people will hate the rich or be scared to be rich.
hawkdriver on March 21, 2009 at 8:23 PM

canditaylor68 on March 21, 2009 at 8:25 PM
And I hope it remains an isolated incident. But with the media exploting it, we could see more. If this illustrious President had an ounce of sense, he would denounce these actions but as we all know, it plays right into his plans. Therein lies the frustration.
sherry on March 21, 2009 at 8:27 PM

You don’t even have to be rich, or even wish to attain wealth, you just have to have the desire to succeed, and the willingness to work hard to achieve it, in order to be hated by the unwashed masses. Anyone who has spent any amount of time in the UK has seen what “living on the dole” does for people. I despise Obama for attempting to convert American values to this.

Exactly. There was nothing in BO’s performance this week that would have led to a 2% increase in approval. This was, in fact, the first week that we saw something close to criticism in the MSM who were cheerleaders up until this point. My two neighbors who were beyond thrilled with his election had kept campaign signs up but this week they came down. Coincidence, I think not.
