Setting the mobs loose
posted at 3:05 pm on March 21, 2009 by Ed Morrissey
Just in case people didn’t figure out what the end result of all this faux outrage over AIG bonuses would be, New York Magazine reports on the latest in liberal-populist tourism. Community organizers for Connecticut Working Families Party want to send busloads of outrageously outraged people to the doorsteps of AIG executives’ homes … and claim that they don’t want to put them at risk. Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight:
The Connecticut Working Families Party this weekend has organized a bus store that will make stops at Wilton, Connecticut, AIG office as well as the security-patrolled homes of AIG execs who are fearing for their lives.
“We’re going to be peaceful and lawful in everything we do,” said Jon Green, the director of Connecticut Working Families. “I know there’s a lot of anger and a lot of rage about what’s happened. We’re not looking to foment that unnecessarily, but what we want to do is give folks in Bridgeport and Hartford and other parts of Connecticut who are struggling and losing their homes and their jobs and their health insurance an opportunity to see what kinds of lifestyle billions of dollars in credit-default swaps can buy.”
Right, they’re not fomenting rage, they’re just encouraging it. So if you happen to record someone’s address so you can return in the dead of night, it’s not like Working Families told you to! We know we sound paranoid and we really can’t believe we’re actually on the same side as Rush, but this is getting way out of hand. Oh, to have fat ladies in high heels clogging up the West Village again.
Remember when Bill Clinton accused conservative talk radio of fomenting hate? What does he have to say about his colleagues in the Obama administration and the Democratic Party? (via King Banaian)
Update: What a shock — CWFP is an arm of ACORN. (h/t: Instapundit)
Update II: Turns out to be quite a bust. First, it attracted more press than protesters, a rather ironic twist on the Tea Party protests, which garner thousands which are mostly ignored by the media. Here are the people following the anticlimactic fizzle:

The funny thing is that most AIG employees are probably liberals themselves. It’s almost humorous to sit back and watch the libtards cannibalize each other.

Good grief, these people are just crazed. How do they become “outraged” at the bonuses but not the people who made sure the bonuses were forthcoming?

Think of it as a “Tea Party” on AIG.

Ya right. The fact that you’re even doing this is enough to scare the crap out of anyone working in the private sector these days.

This crap should be enough to scare the living hell out of the folks at GM and Chrysler.

Percy_Peabody on March 21, 2009 at 3:19 PM
The Obama-machine is distracting the fools.
Here’s the real culprit
We were screwed by both sides. Get really, really mad at the real sources, Obama and McCain, plus their hordes of charlatans, past and especially present. Do not be fooled, or misled by the faux outrage, which is just a blinding.
Our media is incredibly drelict in their supposed duties. Such ineptness must be destroyed, at the top of the government, media, and of course at AIG.
Do not pay for this. Revolt. April 15 is a good day to lead toward, in massive tea-parties, with all we’ve got. If it passes without effect, more complacency will set in.
Revenue is not there but expenses are growing exponentially. This and next generations may never recover from this much ineptness and fraud by our masters and politicians, who’re in bed together, aided fully by a derelict media, in ‘love’ with the big Nothing cipher, with a teleprompter.
Entelechy on March 21, 2009 at 3:19 PM
Hmm, why don’t they just label all the employees with a big star or something on their homes, their businesses, and their clothing? I’m sure that the Germans could give them some pointers…….
It’s the same way people react to me when they find out I work for a health insurance company. I wasn’t aware that I was supposed to seek approval from loser unemployed liberal friends who wouldn’t know a day of hard work if it came up and bit them on the arse.
mjk on March 21, 2009 at 3:20 PM
Let us become a mob too, but for a better cause.
A clean sweep of all our representatives is essential. They are all crooks. We must also enact a mandate that no person can hold that office for more than two terms and that none can campaign for another office until s/he finishes working and earning his/her keep in the office s/he is currently in.

And it’s the guys you voted for that willingly gave them those bonuses.

Wethal on March 21, 2009 at 3:24 PM
I’m not ignoring those words at all. They can return them or Congress (and by extension, the military) can do it for them in a constitutionally compliant manner.
You just want to see AIG weasel out of paying back the funds.

2008 election cycle Obama was #1 AIG recipient, Dodd #2.
These are the 2 people responsible for the bonuses.

What are the gun laws in CT – that’s presupposing they don’t follow the Constitution being how CT is one of those NE, blue states – and can these AIG folks start their own version neighborhood watch; e.g. carry an AR15 fully loaded over their shoulder when they take the trash out?
Who on the conservative side is going to start tours to Frank’s and Dodd’s homes?
And when our taxes start becoming too onerous will we have a revolt and refuse to pay them? Reason I ask, it’s coming.
BowHuntingTexas on March 21, 2009 at 3:32 PM
Since I don’t do labor law, sure. (Litigation, now…)
Why not every law firm that does lobbying in DC or the state capitals?
Why not on Hollywood actors’ and actresses’ salaries? professional athletes? Singers? Hosts of late night talk shows? MSM news anchors?
Hey, let’s have wage and price controls. They worked so well before, didn’t they.
But why stop at wages? Why not allocate housing? Why, look at those big houses the AIG execs live in. You could put up a couple of homeless families…
Before long, we could be at Vonnegut’s dystopian Harrison Bergeron, in which “everyone was equal in every way,” thanks to 200+ amendments to the Constitution and the vigilance of the U.S. Handicapper General.
Wethal on March 21, 2009 at 3:32 PM
If anything, a broken fingernail, happens to the AIG employees or their families, I believe Acorn, this splinter group, the democrat party, Dodd, BARNEY FRANK, and Barack Hussein Obama should be charged with the crime, oh, along with the trash that boarded a bus to go a harass people that actually work and don’t have to stand in line for government cheese and welfare every week.

I don’t even know where to start. My spouse works for one of these “bailout” firms. We got a bonus. His office showed a 30% intease in assets under management and his offices showed at least a 17% profit.
It scares the shit out of me that there are actually people who want our name so they can investigate us. It scares me even further to think that there is the real possibility of a bus full of nuts casing my house and my kids. I’m wondering if I still live in America.
When those bastards in Washington passed this punitive tax, I called my dad and said “that affects ME.”. Never on my life could I have ever imagined living in a country that passes laws punishing innocent people. And yes, WE ARE INNOCENT.

Missouri has issued a State Sanctioned Report to its Law
Enforcement Personnel telling them to regard anyone who
voted 3rd Party in the last Presidential Election as “Domestic
Terrorists.” Also, anyone who opposes the New World Order,
Gun Control, Abortion, and Illegal Immigration are to be regarded
as Domestic Terrorists. This document, dated Feb. 20, 2009 bears
the insignia of the Missouri State Highway Patrol, and is a strategic
report entitled, “Modern Militia Movement.” The purpose of the document
is to lump Christians together with people who are “off the charts.” Page 3 of the
document specifically says that Constitutionalists who claim that Obama
doesn’t meet the residency requirements to be President are to be regarded
as domestic terrorists. Were you one of the 300,000 Americans who signed
petitions demanding that Obama show his birth certificate? Think YOUR state is exempt?
If We the People do not rise up in one very loud voice NOW and demand it stop, this thing is going to spread to all 50 states…no state will be exempt!
Our Country is getting very messed up. Might not even be able to trust Law Enforcement either.

The AIG execs who remain are not the ones who did the credit default swaps. Most of those actually were in London (and are no longer employees, either).
The remaining people are trying to untangle thousands of complicated insurance policies they didn’t write, and see what is salvagable from AIG.
The current head of AIG was asked by Geithner to come sort out this mess. Liddy makes $1 a year from AIG. He’s trying to help out his country’s finances, and this is the thanks he gets.
