Ramirez: The Captain Louis Renault Award

posted at 8:10 am on March 20, 2009 by Ed Morrissey

Michael Ramirez of Investors Business Daily gives us the clearest look at the highly hypocritical outrage on Capitol Hill over the AIG bonuses — and he uses one of my favorite themes to do it. Noting that “casa blanca” translates to “White House”, Ramirez casts Chris Dodd as the corrupt Captain Louis Renault, the man who shouts his outrage over gambling at Rick’s Cafe Americain while openly accepting the winnings he received from the rigged games.  I especially liked Ramirez’s touch at renaming the cafe (via Power Line):

If you have never seen Casablanca, Ramirez took his cue from this scene:

I like to use this clip whenever I give out a Captain Louis Renault award for hypocritical outrage … but after Dodd, it may never have quite the same application.

Ramirez has a terrific collection of his works: Everyone Has the Right to My Opinion, which covers the entire breadth of Ramirez’ career, and it gives a fascinating look at political history.  Read my review here, and watch my interviews with Ramirez here and here.  And don’t forget to check out the entire IBD site, while individual investors still exist.

Brilliant. Absolutely brilliant!

Very good.

Right “on the money”.

Of all the Gin joints in all the world,

Liberal Dodd,

walks into this one!haha.

Yeah, Obama should not make fun of the Special Olympics.

But Obama did say “Tim Geithner, you are doing a heck of a job!

Nuiance!

It is not faux outrage over stupid things Democrats say, is is real outrage over their hypocrisy that needs to be called out.

Maybe Allah will go back to Patterico (or maybe even Protein Wisdom) and no be so outraged as explain what Obama’s intent was.

Dodd will always be for bonuses as long as he’s not caught with them.

He’ll do a better job of hiding them the next time.

Any thinking American should be angry. Damned angry at this unsubtle attempt at the distraction and emotional manipulation of Americans, while another ONE POINT FIVE TRILLION goes out the door with a wink and a whisper.

Remember those 25 DVDs that Mr. Obama gave as heartfelt presents to PM Brown on his state visit a few weeks ago. Some of us jokingly stated that Obama gave Brown USA region DVDs unplayable in Britain, whereas other posters gave Obama the benefit of the doubt and said even Obama and Hillary weren’t that clueless to give wrong region DVDs to PM Brown on such a special and important occasion.
Well, the NY Post reports on p.10, on March 20, 2009 that PM Brown decided to pop one of Pres. Obama’s gift DVDs into the DVD player, when these words appeared on the screen, “WRONG REGION!” So it looks like Pres. Obama’s State Department is even more clueless than we believed. (Well after the State Department’s Russian interpreters couldn’t even translate ‘reset’ into Russian, I maybe understated our disbelief a smidgeon).

I can’t wait for the next brilliant Liberal idea,

if they can tax it at 100%,(bonuses)

maybe they can get away with

200%,after all,with this kind of

Democrat creativity,they can fuel

more social programs–hence,create

more voting Liberals!!!!!!!!

The politics of personal assassination have brought us to this point. Incompetency beyond comprehension. Mitt Romney is one of the only true intellects we have who is willing to serve, and we the people won’t elect him because we’re afraid of his religion.

We truly have become a stupid bunch of people.

This was a really bad-stupid move on Obama’s behalf; he is now on record in front of millions of viewers with those statements. The facts will come out, and Obama will be caught in another big fat lie. I hope he keeps touring the nation and talking freely without the teleprompter. The guys just another shuck-n-jive con man.

Keemo on March 20, 2009 at 8:51 AM

Mitt Romney lost his lead due to Huckabee pulling votes away from him. Huckabee shouldve dropped out, imo.. By the time my state’s primary was..in May..he had already dropped out. I did not even get a chance to vote for him.

That cartoon is hilarious too.

MItt Romney may well be the only Republican with the stature, the experience, and the smarts to lead us out of the socialist nightmare that Obambi and the Democrats are creating.

It’s not too early for Republicans, including conservatives, to get behind him.

I couldn’t agree more. I can’t help but to wonder about this last election cycle. Democrats crossing over to vote for McCain in record numbers, the MSM pushing McCain 24/7 during the primaries, and the Huck teaming up with McCain to bash Romney as if he were on the Liberal ticket. It smells of an orchestrated scam to get Obama elected.

Keemo on March 20, 2009 at 9:12 AM

If the voters don’t throw these incompetent, destructive idiot Democrats out in 2010 and 2012 then the terrorists have already won.

Mr Purple on March 20, 2009 at 9:18 AM

Yes Mr. Purple, this is a fact… However, we the people must also learn lessons as history unfolds before our eyes. We need to clean up those things we have allowed to take place for a few decades now, if we are going to get the “best of the best” to serve our nation in DC, and around the country. The politics of personal assassination were on display with the attacks against Sarah and even her children and husband. Then we witnessed the attacks levied against Joe the Plumber. Who in their right mind would want to put themselves and their families through such a thing. The media is to blame for this, as this could not take place without their willingness to play. The American people will learn from these experiences, where it has taken us, or we will surely have even rougher times ahead.

The media in it’s current form must die so that corrupt politicians don’t have this most powerful weapon to provide cover for their despicable behavior, and to act as the attack machine against all opposition.

I am surprised that no one has yet connected the dots between AIG and Obama. The “lightworker” received substantial contributions from AIG and it’s executives during the election. Was the
contractual bonus protection clause” inserted into the bill as a quid pro quo ?

Enquiring minds want to know…….

AW1 Tim on March 20, 2009 at 9:36 AM

Ramirez has ‘talent on loan from God’ – his ability to portray the truth in the most ironic way is uncanny.

Nero fiddled while Rome burned
Obama went on Leno and cracked jokes.

rishika on March 20, 2009 at 9:47 AM

Consensus is what you get when you don’t have leadership.
Obama is the point person for a cabal that speaks through his teleprompter.

The worst thing about a committee is that no one takes responsibility for results of their collective ‘decisions’. the O-man may claim the buck stops with him but this is more empty rhetoric.
Words, just words.

The best conservative cartoonist EVER was the late Jeff MacNelly-his “IRS form” came out in the 1970′s and is still rotflmao funny-but I’ve been saying for years that Mr. Ramirez and a worthy heir to the crown.

And in real life, Claude Rains, who was gassed as a British soldier in World War 1, lived his final years here in the States. Ironically, his final resting place is in a tiny graveyard here in New Hampshire, which was once as Red a state as they come but has since been brainwashed like much of the rest of the country.

Interestingly, Claude is buried about 15 miles as the crow flies from Mitt Romney’s summer house.

Nah, if anything, it was Republican ambivalence and incompetence. The Huckster didn’t help, though. He must have thought he could be Vice-President.

I’m hoping Mitt will speak up on the economy and on the folly of cap-and-trade soon. He’s the only public figure who can command enough attention to stop the insane rush to control ‘carbon’, and thereby every detail of our lives.

MrLynn on March 20, 2009 at 12:09 PM

After the massive damage they’ve done to our economy, having Chris Dodd and Barney Frank overseeing efforts to fix the banking crisis is like having Adolph Hitler and Dr. Mengele overseeing the Nuremburg Trials.

Do we really need these two buffoons further damaging our country?
