Infandous: Canada bans Galloway
posted at 2:49 pm on March 20, 2009 by Ed Morrissey
Go Canada! The Daily Mail reports that our neighbors to the north have told British MP George Galloway in no uncertain terms that he is persona non grata in the Union. His ties to terrorist organizations such as Hamas make him a security risk:
Outspoken anti-war MP George Galloway has vowed to fight an ‘outrageous decision’ to ban him from Canada on the grounds of national security.
Mr Galloway said the ban was ‘not something I’m prepared to accept’ and pledged to use all means at his disposal to challenge the ruling.
But a spokesman for Canada’s immigration minister Jason Kenney insisted the decision, taken by border security officials, would not be overturned for a ‘infandous* street-corner Cromwell’ (*’infandous: too odious to be expressed or mentioned).
Wow! And here we thought that Canadians had more Minnesota Nice than Minnesota. The minister’s office says it has an obligation to enforce section 34(1) of their immigration code to protect Canadians from terrorist sympathizers and fundraisers, and while it can issue waivers, it has no intention of doing so for Galloway.
In fact, they’re being rather blunt about it, and about Galloway himself:
Mr Velshi said: ‘We’re going to uphold the law, not give special treatment to this infandous street-corner Cromwell who actually brags about giving ‘financial support’ to Hamas, a terrorist organisation banned in Canada.
‘I’m sure Galloway has a large Rolodex of friends in regimes elsewhere in the world willing to roll out the red carpet for him. Canada, however, won’t be one of them.’
It provides an interesting juxtaposition to Britain’s decision to ban Geert Wilders, the Dutch parliamentarian, for his alleged extremist ties. One has to wonder whether that prompted a diplomatic backlash, although I don’t see what dog Canada has in that fight. The two are hardly analogous, as Wilders hasn’t gone around hugging Ismail Haniyeh, the Hamas leader in Gaza, or profiting off of the oil-for-food program by acting as Saddam Hussein’s lackey. It is, however, a great example of karma.
Galloway wants to fight this decision, but perhaps he’d be better off trying to figure out why no one wants him around. Well, no one but terrorists, anyway.
And I think “infandous” will be the word of the day today. I’m going to see how often I can work it into my show this afternoon, starting at 3 pm ET right here at Hot Air.
Update: The pic at the Daily Mail has Galloway hugging Ismail Haniyeh, not Khaled Mashaal as I first wrote. He may hugged Mashaal at some point, too — I wouldn’t put it past him — but I figured I’d be accurate.

WOW.
Now if they can just get rid of that Star Chamber, I’ll feel much better.
Still…this was a bitch-slap of tremendous proportions. Maybe there’s hope for Northern Wisconsin yet.
MadisonConservative on March 20, 2009 at 2:52 PM
Fantastic. F Galloway. The further away he is from me, the better.
Proud Rino on March 20, 2009 at 2:53 PM
GO CANADA!
Kini on March 20, 2009 at 2:53 PM
I keep telling my Canadian husband life is so much better up here. He wants to move back to the States, but he’ll be surprised how much it’s changed in 4 yrs.
chunderroad on March 20, 2009 at 2:54 PM
Kudos to our neighbors in the great white north.
An excellent decision and proper.
SilverStar830 on March 20, 2009 at 2:54 PM
Goodness. Is there any way to get this man to work for the GOP’s communications office?
amerpundit on March 20, 2009 at 2:55 PM
In that case, why do they keep tolerating all those Tamil and Muslim terrorist fundraisers?
(Not that object to barring that infandous jackass, Galloway, just to be clear.)
irishspy on March 20, 2009 at 2:55 PM
meh, this guys a punk, but isnt he still technically a parliamentarian? i mean, we let ahmadinejad in the US on numerous occasions…did they need to straight up ban him?
ernesto on March 20, 2009 at 2:56 PM
Wow, someone in north America has got balls left to stand up against supporters of “man-caused disaster”.
It has to be the latitude..
the_nile on March 20, 2009 at 2:56 PM
You say infandous, I say infatada…
Christien on March 20, 2009 at 2:56 PM
off subject.
Which reminds me, Ed what is going on with the “count”.
right2bright on March 20, 2009 at 2:57 PM
Sounds like canopfor is getting some of his neighbors to put down the Kool-aid.
Good on Canada for giving Gallow-ways the raspberry.
Limerick on March 20, 2009 at 2:57 PM
Well, we have the UN here. I think we’re obligated to let heads of state and heads of government come, at least to New York City. Galloway is no head of state, and the UN isn’t in Canada. So he can kindly f off.
Proud Rino on March 20, 2009 at 2:57 PM
You say Obama…I say Yo Mama…

Sponge on March 20, 2009 at 3:02 PM
LOL! What does he want to do? Declare War? Newsflash bro – you and your lefty friends destroyed the British empire long ago – Canada might whip your arse!
On another note … Galloway will ALWAYS be welcome in the Obamanation!

Clarity, eh?

Yes, a friend of mine is native born Canadian and in the process of getting dual citizenship for her family. She isn’t ready to go back yet, but close. Says USA has really changed since she came here.
PrincipledPilgrim on March 20, 2009 at 3:05 PM
Bully for Canada. I may have to pick up some Molson or Canadian Club this evening.
rbj on March 20, 2009 at 3:05 PM
OH yea, don’t forget the banned Bill Ayers too!
PrincipledPilgrim on March 20, 2009 at 3:06 PM
“Infandous” is definitely a new word for me, and a beauty.
For sheer zing, however, “street-corner Cromwell” puts it in the shade.
warbaby on March 20, 2009 at 3:06 PM
Canada can have it though. I think the northern portion of Hudson Bay would be a perfect location.
WashJeff on March 20, 2009 at 3:06 PM
Okay where are our little friends to compare this to Britain and Mr. Wilders. Flex those fingers, Posters.
Cindy Munford on March 20, 2009 at 3:06 PM

Extra style points for using “infandous.”

Meanwhile… GITMO terrorists to star in the remake of “Coming to America”, brought to you by the Obama Administration.

You might want to get in a few “execrable” here and there just for variety and for good measure.

To all Canadians-we salute you and thank you for this.
canditaylor68 on March 20, 2009 at 3:16 PM
The lib-tards had taken Canada to the limits of insanity which allowed a conservative like Stephen Harper and his party to become the ruling party in Canada. The liberals will do the same to our nation. Then a conservative will rise from the death march, like it has in Canada, France, Poland and Germany, and will try to bring the liberal insanity back from the brink of destruction. Too bad we have to go to bankruptcy and a total breakdown of all of our inherent values before we realize that liberalsim is truly a disease that is progressive that leads to oblivion.
volsense on March 20, 2009 at 3:17 PM
Hmmm… Does this mean they won’t let Obama back into Canada? (Doesn’t $900M for Hamas come to mind?)
Christian Conservative on March 20, 2009 at 3:20 PM
What, and allow an infandous street-corner Lincoln/FDR/JFK/Messiah into Canada just to give them cheap DVDs?

Speaking of Canada,
Mark Steyn will be filling in for Rush,on Monday!
Now,it seems North America might be slowly coming to
its sense’s,
a few more Kool-Aid shipments to hijack, and destroy
and Canada might be right as rain again,I hope!!
Great news,one less Jihady cheerleader!!
Time to work on those over sea shipments of Kool-Aid
to England!!
canopfor on March 20, 2009 at 3:26 PM
Er, no. Canada is still a fiscally conservative, socially liberal country. The Liberals imploded after scandal after scandal. Policies did not do them in. The Canadian Conservative party would be closely aligned with the Clinton wing of the Democrats.
YYZ on March 20, 2009 at 3:27 PM
Joe the Plumber says he is horny, and JUST BY COINCEDENCE, George Galloway wants to come to North America all of a sudden? I’m not buying it.

Looks like there’s hope for us Canucks yet, eh?

Some of us Yanks aren’t deaf and blind. Your boys eat a lot of Afghan dust for the folks that were in the towers. Sorry about the Continential Army invading your country BTW. :)

Hats off to the Canucks!
Worse – they sent him back.

I’m sure they did more than hug, behind closed doors.
Muslim fanatics are into more than just Islam and their primary love beyond Allah is man rump.
Don’t ask, don’t tell, don’t want to know.
NoDonkey on March 20, 2009 at 3:52 PM
What he said. X2.
yo on March 20, 2009 at 3:52 PM
Seeing as how we take a higher per capita ratio of casualties in Afghanistan, risked our lives in Iran during the hostage crisis and did what we could when the Towers fell in terms of men and equipment, I find this praise rather insulting.
Krydor on March 20, 2009 at 3:53 PM
How rude and intolerant. I’m sure Canada’s HRC won’t stand for this.
I expect Citizenship and Immigration Canada will be receiving a ruling from the HRC soon demanding they pay a huge fine and allow Galloway free entry and honorary citizenship.
Seeing as we’ve found the HRC has no limits on its power, and is perfectly willing to make odd decisions (like silencing someone from publicly expressing their views on certain topics, forcing a newspaper to print an editorial, etc.) this has to be within their power.
Why wouldn’t they get involved in this issue and decide to override the Government?
gekkobear on March 20, 2009 at 3:56 PM
Perhaps the UK can do a Geert Wilders and ban that pig Galloway from Britian as well.
RobCon on March 20, 2009 at 4:02 PM
We let Ahmadinejad in because he was visiting the U.N.
We should ban both Ahmadinejad and the U.N.

……….. now if we can only borrow the law and apply it to Cynthia McKinney.
Seven Percent Solution on March 20, 2009 at 4:08 PM
Mark Steyn might have something different to say about Canada after he was subject to one of your so-called ‘human rights’ witch hunts which attempt to censor speech.
docdave on March 20, 2009 at 4:10 PM
Don’t abuse the nuanced meaning of infandous. It can be very decraptacious.

You’re so un-PC Ed.
Your subheading should have been “Man-Caused Disaster.”
BKennedy on March 20, 2009 at 6:30 PM
Go CANADA!!! Hope this kind of thinking will spread to the rest of the former Empire…
Gohawgs on March 20, 2009 at 7:29 PM
Wow, I thought the headline was a joke. I thought Canada was really happy that the terrorists were going to put us in our place. I mean the Canadian Parlement did stab us in the back just as we needed friends the most–on the eve of the Iraq war.
If they want to be friends again because of Obama, no thanks. Prehaps they think we are doing enough damage to ourselves with Obama’s election. Okay now I’ve talked myself into being mad at Canada again… oh well I was positive for a few minutes.

Perhaps the UK can do a Geert Wilders and ban that pig Galloway from Britian as well.
RobCon on March 20, 2009 at 4:02 PM
Maybe that’s behind this all… they were afraid Galloway would be stuck in Canada if they let him in.

Galloway. Mr Code Pink. Wonder how all those oil options from Saadam worked out for him and his wife.

Someone in Canada still has a pair! But I’m betting that someone else will “fix” that very soon, unfortunately.

Actually, a stopped clock is right twice a day. A broken clock can be right numerous times in a day, depending on what the problem is.
Krydor on March 21, 2009 at 2:56 AM
I’m pleased they banned Galloway and I am pleased the UK told that Dutch carrot to piss off too.
Now if only Gorgeous George would just fuck off back to Scotland where he belongs instead of polluting England we would be making real progress.

Too bad this country doesnt ban terrorist sympathizers.
oh wait…that would mean most of the administration would not be allowed here….and the libs.

If giving money to Hamas gets one banned from Canada, doesn’t that mean they’d have to ban President Obama?
