Andrew Malcolm has another entry for the Someone Left The Irony On Department. A trade group of black newspaper publishers named Barack Obama their Newsmaker of the Year, and want to give him an award. Obama finds this so delightful that he’s made it an event … but guess who won’t get invitations?
Barack Obama was elected commander-in-chief promising to run the most transparent presidential administration in American history.
This achievement and the overall promise of his historic administration caused the National Newspaper Publishers Assn. to name him “Newsmaker of the Year.”
The president is to receive the award from the federation of black community newspapers in a White House ceremony this afternoon.
The Obama White House has closed the press award ceremony to the press.
You know what’s really embarrassing? When someone gets so enraptured over another, fawning after them, issuing dreamy paeans to their sheer glory, and all the while the object of their affection barely knows they’re alive.
Let’s face it, media: Obama’s just not that into you.
Usually, failing to get an invitation to the kewl party provides a wake-up call to the besotten fool. Think the media will wise up now? Me neither.

The Press is the most important arm of the Obama White House at the moment and this is evidenced by the Carville / Stephanopolis daily phonecons and the jour-no-list (or whatever it is called) …
But “The One” knows that … too much overexposure can cause those “thrills up the leg” to become stale. He’s playing the media like a violin – and they are singing his tune beautifully!

Stop! I never want to here the words “Obama” and “Historic” used together ever again. It has been said so often about him that the words no longer carry any meaning. Much like the whole Obama presidency. History didn’t begin on November 4, 2008. Besides three months is too short of a time to judge his true presidential legacy. I sure his is going to screw things up much worse it the future.

Well, the Clintons had the same disdain for the press after they made it to the White House in 1993. But that didn’t matter as far as the 1994 midterms or the ’96 general election went, because the big media people would always rationalize away any anger they had at the Clintons by convincing themselves Newt Gingrich or Bob Dole (Bob Dole!) would usher in an era of fascist dictatorship if they took power.
The same thing is true here. The big media types convinced themselves last year that John McCain was Rush Limbaugh’s blood brother during the election, and no matter how disdainfully he treats them over the next two-to-four years, “battered wife syndrome” will be in effect and they’ll convince themselves no matter how badly Barack treats them, any Republican elected would be 100 times worse.

I thought that the newspapers were a form of “media”. According to the dictionary the defninition states (usually used with a plural verb) the means of communication, as radio and television, newspapers, and magazines, that reach or influence people widely.

He doesn’t let the press in, Ed, not because he is snubbing them. That makes no sense. He loves the press. The reason for barring them is so that there is no record of any embarrassing events that may take place at an event of hardcore black supporters, some of whom could have muslim terrorist ties. This press award could be a minefield for him.
Imagine a statement from the black newsmen honoring him like: “Mr. President, black newspapers across this nation supported you because we knew the white newspapers would never give a black man a chance. We would like to honor you not just for being a black man who has made it out from under whitey’s thumb, but for having the courage to call America out for its racist ways.”
What does he say to that which he would want aired on the 6 pm news? uh-uh-uh-uh . . .

Now, isn’t there some phenomena that Blacks have remarked on about their light skinned companions that made it in the world and would only let their darker skinned family members come to their home under the cover of night? I know I’ve heard this and or read this in many places but can’t cite one now. Of course I’m not pigmentally qualified to make this comment, but I really have to wonder how folks in the ‘hood are going to regard The Half White One closing the doors to the prying eyes of the world when his Brothers and Sisters come calling. Or how those Brothers and Sisters he’s condescended to meet with will regard it. Could be another gaffe, and not necessarily an offense against those locked out of the party.
