Awesome: Michael Steele wins freestyle rap debate with Colbert; Update: RNC outraises DNC

posted at 6:15 pm on March 20, 2009 by Allahpundit

The challenge having been issued and accepted, sort of, the beats are hereby given and the rhymes duly dropped. I knew Steele’s luck had to turn around sometime. But I didn’t know it would turn around this dramatically.

Say what you will about the man, but he can spit it.

Update: Like I said, the turnaround has begun:

In its first full month under the chairmanship of Virginia Gov. Tim Kaine, the Democratic National Committee only raised $3.26 million in February, according to figures released by the committee this afternoon.

The total lags behind the February fundraising total at the Republican National Committee, which raised $5.1 million during the month. RNC chairman Michael Steele, who faced a tumultuous first month as chairman, will get to claim an early fundraising victory over his Democratic counterpart.

I can’t stand more than 30 seconds of Colbert’s empty parody parading as satire. It’s like someone revving their engine as the green light approaches…in their Geo Metro.

MadisonConservative on March 20, 2009 at 6:20 PM

And this will strenghten the Republican voter base how?

By attracting rap-loving metrosexual urbanite atheists like Allah?

Watch the whole thing. The edit of Steele “rapping” is brilliant.

Michael Steele is having a shaky start, but I think he’ll pull out of it.

Besides, isn’t is kind of a GOOD thing we dropped all those stand-ins anyway?

And LOL. Say what you will about Colbert’s shtick, that was one of the most awesome things I have ever seen.

Colbert vs. Steele (freestyle rap-off)

Kolan vs. Obama (bowl-off)

I bet Colbert and Kolan would be the winners.

Neither of them has anything on Jay Billington Bulworth.

That was a great editing job on Steele though. I’d like to see them do that with Obama clips.

Doughboy on March 20, 2009 at 6:28 PM

It was sorta funny, then again I’m still a LOL fan of guys like Kinnison, Dangerfield and Rickles, guys who were REALLY funny.

Do another one like this with Ogabe and perhaps I’ll laugh more.

katy on March 20, 2009 at 6:39 PM

Holy crap the build up was waaaaaaaaaay too long, but the editing was a’ight.

Would’ve actually mattered if Steele’s office did the editing rather than Colbert, ya know what I’m sayin’?

ScottMcC on March 20, 2009 at 6:40 PM

This pretty much assures that Steele will not go on the show. If he does and actually attempts one for real, it would have to destroy what Colbert put together, or he would look like a stodgy stereotypical republican.

Making a rap video using the words of an accomplished black man… the reason I can’t even enjoy this weak attempt at humor is for the obvious reason that if ANY obscure, marginally-connected Republican put together an Obama rap… it would be Imus x 10.

Update: Like I said, the turnaround has begun:

I’d still be interested to see what the March numbers are like. After all, Steele’s mistakes came at the end of February and in the first two weeks of March. Indeed, I’d love to see how many letters the RNC received saying, “Not another dime.” It got one from me.

jcheney on March 20, 2009 at 7:45 PM

Okay but I thought Colbert only pretended to be Conservative. So is this a set up? Or could he be a possible convert, one of the Obama disillutioned?

Whatever–just proves it is all in the editing.

petunia on March 20, 2009 at 8:22 PM

Oh and about Steele he has yet to offend me… well maybe the Nazi thing he didn’t defend. But people are allowed not to worship Rush, that doesn’t offend me.

I wonder if the money has anything to do with Romney’s increased visibility.

jcheney on March 20, 2009 at 8:49 PM

Hopefully, that means that most of those who voted for the Dumocrats are now out of work and can no longer contribute.

At the least, they’ve lost interest because they’re realizing they’ve been had.

They now stand in front of the mirror in the morning and watch their heads slowly turn into a sucker like in those old classic cartoons.

On a scale of 1 to 10 with 10 being side splitting funny and 1 being Michelle Obama’s funny bone…this was a 5.

I hope Steele pulls his head out of his butt regarding policy issues.

That said, at least he’s raising the $$$. :)

Ryan Gandy on March 20, 2009 at 10:08 PM

WHACK.

Funny.

Good Lt on March 20, 2009 at 10:35 PM

While that was funny, I’m not a double standard guy… so I have to take Steele to task for trying to “black it up”, since I did it to Obama (and Hillary). Remember those 2 turds in Selma? And then Hillary again in Harlem on MLK Jr. Day? Sudden everyone was from “da ‘hood”.

What’s good for the goose is good for the gander… Steele needs to stop trying to be “hip”, it’s transparent and obnoxious. Our side is too smart to fall for that nonsense.

Like Obama, Steele didn’t grow on up “on da streets”, so he really needs to stop. Granted, he wasn’t raised by his white grandparents in Hawaii (which by the way, Puff Daddy you POS, has a lower percentage of black people than Alaska… Don’t think we forgot what you said during the campaign, douche). At least Steele is from the DC area, but not the ghetto by any means.

Maybe it’s just me, but I find faux-ebonics obnoxious.

RightWinged on March 20, 2009 at 10:51 PM

Ok then, in my book Steele stays (at least for a couple months, to settle in).

This was what I called in a previous exit question as my “deciding factor”. If he could get funding for the RNC then that would show he was at least making an effort and some progress.

If he’d failed at this I’d be along with those calling for his head.

Admission. I didn’t watch the rap, nor will I.

Jeez.

AprilOrit on March 21, 2009 at 3:02 AM

The editing was excellent against the rhythm. Colbert is tedious and infantile. In this case, in my opinion he was soft on Steele.

Colbert basically ran a stream of neutral-conservative phrases through Steele’s rap when he easily could have edited the Steele rap to aggressively aggravate his audience.

I think if the same rap had been done with Bush clips it would have twisted Bush into a spew of evil. That Colbert did not do a major number on Steele, IMHO, is from the natural liberal fawning over minorities

I don’t see where this gains Steele anything. The fund raising numbers don’t mean a lot to me. The same fence sitting business types who liked Obama are now getting upset over proposed taxes and anti tax money is certainly starting to panic flow towards the RNC

I haven’t seen anything from Steele to encourage me to give money and his new vision for the GOP seems to be pointed towards the kinder gentler brigade, the continuing attempt to supplant conservatives in the base with moderates in their dreams. I think his first Rush comment was from the gut and the second Rush explanation was an act of caution

Hey all you anti-Steelers: drop the purity and embrace the zeitgeist. We conservatives had better get some color on our walls or we’re finished … or perhaps, Finnish. Either way, if we stay a white bunch of accountants, it’s over.
