Ready to welcome your friendly, neighborhood Gitmo terrorist?

Democrats spent the years after 9/11 insisting that they could keep America just as safe as Republicans, given the chance. Maybe they had a different set of Democrats in mind than Barack Obama and Eric Holder. The Attorney General briefed reporters yesterday on the plans for releasing Gitmo detainees, which apparently include releasing the terrorists inside the US:
Attorney General Eric Holder said some detainees being held at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, may end up being released in the U.S. as the Obama administration works with foreign allies to resettle some of the prisoners.
Mr. Holder, in a briefing with reporters, said administration officials are still reviewing individual cases of the approximately 250 detainees to determine which will be put on trial and which may be released to comply with plans to close the detention facility by next year.
What a great idea for national security! Why, most of these fellows could never have made it inside the US had we not captured and detained them on the battlefield. Now we’ll just bring them in ourselves, bypassing all of those nasty border- and transportation-security systems designed just to keep these very radical Islamist terrorists from entering the country. Brilliant!
Why will Holder consider releasing them in the US? The Obama administration found out that talk is cheap among our European allies. Most of the detainees can’t return to their home countries, because their home countries will either kill them (Saudi Arabia, China), torture them and then kill them (Egypt), or send them straight back to al-Qaeda with lovely parting gifts (Yemen). Obama wants Europe to take them, since most of Europe spent the last seven years criticizing Gitmo and demanding their release. Now that Obama actually called their bluff, Europe suddenly discovers that they don’t want dangerous terrorists in their back yards, either.
Call it a survival impulse that the Obama administration lacks. Obviously:
For “people who can be released there are a variety of options that we have and among them is the possibility is that we would release them into this country,” Mr. Holder said.
So which community would like to volunteer first? Anyone? Anyone? Bueller? Bueller?
Addendum: I find myself growing nostalgic for the days when American government kept Americans safe, instead of the terrorists.

You know what sucks? I can see Americans getting into trouble for harassing former GITMO detainees.
Of course, that’s before some of them blow up some Americans. After that, I wouldn’t give a plug nickel for the lives of the rest of them.

There are a few who can probably be released safely into the US. I’m thinking for example of a group of Chinese Muslims who most agree were rounded up by mistake (they wanted to learn how to undermine China- not the US) and sending them to China probably isn’t that great an idea.
However, most of them should be executed.
That’s what international law says should happen to them- whatever the liberals may claim international law says, in truth international law is pretty harsh with unlawful combatants.

This is ridiculous. The picture and headline on the front page makes it seem as if KSM is going to be released. This is clearly dishonest. KSM is not going to be released in the US or anywhere else.
If the detainee is a terrorist, they wont be released. We rounded up tons of people that were not terrorists. That had no intention of causing harm to America or Americans. We need to let them go.

Based on your comments I’m not sure if you do know, well I do know, I know the good people in this war are NOT people that would take over civilian aircraft full of innocent men, women, and CHILDREN and use it as a missile to slam into a building full of more innocent men, women, and CHILDREN to be incinerated!
I know the good people in this war are not the ones that purposely (as a tactic) hide and fight amongst the civilian populations, do not place their weapons within civilian populations or their places of worship, the good people in this war do not hide behind women and children, nor do they strap bombs to themselves and detonate such bombs at a market place where innocent men, women, and children are murdered for the “crime” of going shopping!
Also, I am truly grateful my father and many, many like him during WWII didn’t have your moral compass and instead understood the difference between right and wrong, good and evil, because if they hadn’t and they believed as you do we’d all be speaking German or Japanese right now!

I am curious to know, as we are at war with these fellows, if they are released here, and I tracked, hunted one down after being released, and shot him down, would I be comitting a crime? Would I be an un-uniformed illegal combattant? Would I have any rights under the Geneva Conventions? Seriously……

Maybe they can put them in a pork-funded prison to nowhere, preferably in a Lib Congressman’s district.
