Obama: AIG is like … a suicide bomber

I’m pretty sure this won’t go down in history as Barack Obama’s finest moment:
But today, President Obama took that rhetoric in a different direction. He actually upped the ante explaining that AIG is like a suicide bomber.
“We had to step in, it was the right thing to do, even though it is infuriating,” Obama said, explaining why the government needed to bail out the troubled banks.
“The same is true with AIG,” he said. “It was the right thing to do to step in. Here’s the problem. It’s almost like they’ve got — they’ve got a bomb strapped to them and they’ve got their hand on the trigger. You don’t want them to blow up. But you’ve got to kind of talk them, ease that finger off the trigger.”
Well, that’s simply not true. We sent $900 million to suicide bombers. We gave AIG over $150 billion.
Speaking of which, now that we’ve identified Chris Dodd as a liar on the bonus codicil in Porkulus, isn’t it time to do the same for Barack Obama and the White House? Let’s recall what Dodd said was his reason for rewriting his amendment to allow the AIG bonuses:
BLITZER: Well, so just to be precise, what we’re talking about, this mysterious loophole that was inserted at the last minute that allowed these bonuses in effect — now these bonuses, $165 million, to go forward. What I hear you saying is that, you personally, you did this in order — at the request of officials at the Treasury Department, Timothy Geithner, among others.
DODD: Well, I didn’t say who it was. But just say this, I wouldn’t have modified my own amendment at my own insistence. I mean, I spent a long time to having people try to be — change it. And obviously they came. And the alternative was losing the amendment. And I didn’t think we should do that at all.
BLITZER: Who asked you at the Treasury Department to do it?
DODD: Well, they were people, obviously, coming and negotiating with the staffs back and forth. And I don’t know their names specifically, it was at a staff level, people were talking about it.
Gee, would this be the same Treasury Department from the same administration that were “shaking with outrage” over these very bonuses? Dodd’s a liar, but he’s not the only one in this debacle. A conspiratorially-minded person might conclude that the administration deliberately enabled the bonuses so they could stoke populist outrage and push through more of their anti-business agenda.

Obama’s talk of suicide bombers is more projectionism.
The problem is the bomb is strapped to his own a$$!
BOOM!

So if AIG is a suicide bomber, and Obama has been providing AIG’s financing, doesn’t that mean Obama = Osama bin Laden?
AZCoyote on March 19, 2009 at 10:27 AM
AIG Akbar!
Take the tinfoil hat off, Ed. That’s just craaaaaaaaaaaazy talkin’ there, mister. To think that our government, the government of hope, change, shared prosperity, bipartisanship, ethics and integrity, would create an artificial outrage is just purely and wholly ludicrous. To believe that, you would have to think that a sitting US president would order the bombing of an aspirin factory to downplay an incident of alleged indiscretion with an intern.

Obama Bin Laden
izoneguy on March 19, 2009 at 10:34 AM
People keep saying that Obama is intelligent. He’s not.
Obama graduated from one of the top four law schools in the country (Harvard, Yale, Chicago, and Michigan). One of the reasoning skills that a law student should develop is an ability to analogize. If you collected Obama’s many examples of moral equivalence that he’s offered in only the past year, you’d find that he his ability to analogize is terrible.
I’m no fan of AIG, but the moral equivalence of AIG and terrorist bombers is moronic.
Beyond that, and probably more important, Obama simply cannot think well on his feet. Maybe he’s okay if he’s given three hours to go to the law library to do some research and another three hours to compose something for the teleprompter and yet another three hours to discuss his composition with his cabal of Emmanuel, Axelrod, Jarrett, and God knows who else. But I’ll take Palin’s gut instincts over Obama’s alternating professorial ruminations and dumbass off-the-cuff comments any day of the week and twice on Sundays.
BuckeyeSam on March 19, 2009 at 10:36 AM
Analogies to suicide bombers….Must be a Muslim thing.
EMD on March 19, 2009 at 10:36 AM
Let’s get all the bonuses paid by any entity receiving government money out into the open, including Freddie Mac. If Obama wants to go changing contracts ex post facto, or punishing people with bills of attainder, lets let Him hit all the executives and workers getting these bonuses, not just those in AIG.
Again, AIG was a victim of Obama Waters Franks LLC, and this is just mugging the guy again to make sure Obama’s gotten ALL the money.

Insulting, if I were capable of being offended. Rather this is distasteful and shows contempt for military who deal with IEDs everyday, with far less fanfare and at a much lower profile than Tim Geithner, Ben Bernanke, Hank Paulson, and the Wall Street money launderers at Treasury and the Fed.

I was getting really frustrated at how he was being defended by “his ministry” as well, so I had a jumbo glass of adult beverage and watched CNN for awhile- then I read a lot of the comments on “moderate/left” websites. Good Lord. It is frightening that America is so incredibly gullible! Of course it doesn’t help to have Obama-complicit media that refuses to report events accurately! The facts are there, everything is verifiable, yet the questions from the MSM remain unasked. We all live in the same world; Why the left is intent on allowing the destruction of it by an inept administration, I’ll never know.

Barry better be careful about whipping up populist outrage. It’s not something that can be easily controlled, and you never know in which direction it might turn next.
It’s true that most of us didn’t receive million-dollar bonuses, but most of us also don’t get $400k salaries or $500k advances to write a kiddie book.
Capitalism and big pay-outs for little work is okay for Barry — but not for the rest of us?

When has Obama ever been “outraged” at suicide bombers? Or called them names, like reckless or greedy? It won’t happen. Suicide bombers are underprivileged, who came from deprived backgrounds. They need understanding. To Obambi, AIG is the height of evil.
