Kyl to Obama: How about skipping Leno and putting your economic team in order?
posted at 6:47 pm on March 19, 2009 by Allahpundit
Stupid on the merits but good retail politics in how it syncs with the story of Duke’s coach goofing on The One for wasting time on NCAA picks instead of the economy. Politico’s flirting with heresy this afternoon by wondering if our new Great Communicator is really that great after all, in part because his famous temperament is ill suited to the angry spirit of the time. Chitchat in Burbank at ground zero for celebrity worship while the AIG story is roiling and people are screaming for Geithner’s head only underscores their point, although I assume the venue was deliberately chosen by Obama to try to lighten things up a bit and calm people down. If he can do it, more power to him.

That’s kind of personal?
Personal to ask him to skip Leno and do his job. Of course, he could do the type of job he’s doing…or lack of same….from anywhere.
He can be incompetent on either coast.

I had to turn off ESPN because they’re still going on about Obama’s basketball picks. It’s sickening.
Yeah, dude, you and 50 million other people are in an NCAA pool.

i sincerely do not believe that Obama has the mental and physical capability to deal with pressure, therefore he must sneak off to a more comfortable environment where he can maintain his self control and composure. When the going gets tough Obama simply escapes to a more friendly and quiet place . . . this time it was Hollywood land.

Well, Leno will certainly challenge Obama:
1. Is AIG an American Company?
2. Do you think Olbermann went to an Ivy League?
3. How do you stay so wonderful?
4. My jokes aren’t too tough on you are they? ( No JAY, they are NON existent.
5. Did Bush force you to hire Geithner?
originalpechanga on March 19, 2009 at 6:55 PM
I keep wondering what Michelle thinks of Barry flying off and leaving her. Is he ever going to settle down and stay in the WH? IMO, I doubt if he has the discipline to be able to stand the pace of steady work and the isolation from the adoring crowds. Air Force One is going to be burning a lot of fuel.
I’ve moved to another region with small children and had to deal with the transition and their homesickness. It can be hard on kids. To make things more difficult, the Obama girls are not exactly in a neighborhood where they can easily make new friends and have them run in and out of the house.
INC on March 19, 2009 at 6:55 PM

Guys I think we’re missing the bigger picture here — I’m worried about us from an international security standpoint. But if Obama manages to drag his heels in the economy like this, it’s only a GOOD thing. The GOP only needs to freeze his actions (which shouldn’t be hard with this kind of questioning) and congress will deadlock and the economy, via the FREE MARKET (remember the free markets?) should work itself out.

Who thinks that, with all this adulation coming from these panty-tossing females of the under-25 set, Obama is not going to have a Bubba scandal within the next year or so?
I worked in Chappaqua at the time the Clintons moved there. Every time Bubba was headed down to Starbucks, the crosswalks became mobbed with wealthy suburban moms literally herding their late-teen / early-twenties daughters into the coffee shop in hopes that one of them would catch his eye.

Allapundit’s right everyone. Oh just calm down.
Pay no attention, everyone, to the Fed’s colossal purchase of Treasuries yesterday, which is a far, far more important story than this AIG piffle.
Toot toot! The inflation train has just left the station! Thanks Uncle Ben!
Let Obama calm you and lighten you up after two days of spinning, pretending, and desperately pointing fingers so that you will continue to be bamboozled, as well as two months of spending, spending, and more spending that is going to result in taxing everything that lawmakers can get away with for many, many years to come.
In fact, once Leno’s over, just smile your sweet little smiles, take your calmed and lightened-up selves straight up to bed and have a sweet, blissful, oblivous night’s sleep, and improve the shining hours on Friday morning.

So is he using the populist outrage over the AIG bailouts opportunistically to deflect attention from the Fed’s inflationary move (perhaps even helping to fan those flames a little bit)? Does he think he can control this brush fire once it takes hold? A while ago, I decided that most of what we’ve seen since Inauguration Day is the product of the Obamessiah’s ideology rather than incompetence. Is he going to use this to strengthen his case for the growth of government and for yet further intervention by government in business?

This is one time I probably will be in the minority but I do not have any problem with Obama going on the Leno program. And I do not have any problem with him beginning his re-election campaign on Nov. 5/2008. And I do not have any problem with Obama wining and dining GOP legislators during the Super Bowl.
Frankly those who whine over Obama’s tactics are like the SD Chargers and Ladainian Tomlinson complaining to the world after losing a playoff game to the Patriots in 2006 that Belichick had no class, that the Patriots were dirty, and the best team didn’t win and that the Patriot players didn’t show the Chargers the proper respect. Simply put the Chargers lost. End of story.
What I carp about however is that GOP is not taking the fight to Obama and is not more vocal and abrasive in their opposition to the Messiah’s socialist agenda. And that the GOP apparently is not taking steps to compete head-on with Obama and his machine in the 2010 midterms.
Instead of focusing on Obama’s team take the necessary steps to get your own team battle-ready. Focus on building your own team and putting an organizational infrastructure in place to best orchestrate substantial gains for the GOP in Nov. 2010. Be prepared for Obama to campaign every day of the week on the campaign trail starting after Labor Day 2010. Accept reality. It is what it is.

And yet your esteemed “conservative” GOP senators/representatives are saying what on this matter? BUBKIS. Why? Because they have diddly squat to say on it. I know people are really giddy about this set of events…but I have no clue as to why. You know what’s coming out looking crappy in this event, it’s not “progressive” ideas, it’s another indictment of the disconnect between Wall Street and the rest of America. The “elitism” that’s happening now doesn’t make free market conservatism look good, the public is clamoring for leftist regulation and taxing of individual profit. The egg on Geithner’s face is that he’s reminding people too MUCH of a pro-business Republican, i.e. he’s been exposed as being too far to the RIGHT not being too liberal or socialist. I seriously am clueless as to how your side is excited about this turn of events. The public outrage has only moved the debate further and further to the left. We’re openly talking about AIG as a government property now. Think about it.

DtMH is not completely off base on this one, IMO, though he fails to note the red-on-red game of hot potato between the White House, Congress, and the Treasury Secretary. They own this thing. This is less about AIG than is about Democrat disarray.
Any gain the GOP gets here is pretty much a case of robbing the corpses on the battlefield. Retail politics is the weapon we’ve got, so let’s use it.
A Balrog of Morgoth on March 19, 2009 at 7:47 PM
Hasn’t this FINALLY taught you that the Democrats are NOT liberals or progressives even in the slightest, with some very few exceptions (Feingold, Sanders). First the GOP was exposed. They tricked people into thinking that becase their social values were like “the people” on issues like gay marriage and abortion that they were also on the people’s side when it came to economic/business policy. Exposed. Now it’s the Democrats turn for exposure and as a progressive I’m pretty much thrilled about it. Conservatism isn’t winning here. The Democrats are taking hits, but not to the benefit of conservative ideology or to free market ideology. Wake up out of your Obama hating stupor because while you’re cheering the debate in this country is moving towards the left. A massive 90%+ tax cut on individual wealth is going to pass with BIPARTISAN support and with massive support from the American people. This is not a good moment for conservatism.

It’s a very tricky game and it’s also cynical. It’s clear Obama knows how popular he still is among the vast middle. The problem for GOPers pouncing on this is that they still don’t have any credibility with the American people yet. A lot of Americans still see this as the nasty and unfortunate untangling of the Bush mess. I know you want him to “own” it super fast. And he’s not making all the best decisions by a long shot. But it’s more than possible for large swaths of Obama supporters to say:
1. I’m not loving this
2. MAN that Bush left him a mess didn’t he?
Like those two thoughts are not exclusive and while Obama will take a hit, there’s nothing to be excited about for your side. Sorry.
The only solution really is to stop donating to the DNC/RNC or any GOP/DEM candidate. I think Obama disollusionment will move people further into considering third parties which can only be good for the country.

Are you being purposefully obtuse? I think the AIG bonus tax is a bad bad bad idea. However look at the terms of the debate, the only thing being articulated is MASSIVE increases in tax on individual wealth or…not so much increase on taxes on individual wealth. A supply side tax cut is dead on arrival if it wasn’t already and tax increases on the wealthy are going to start looking a lot more attractive with this populist outrage. Please dont confuse partisan bumblings with political philosophy.

Merits are right on. The filthy liar has spent two months talking down the economy in his attempt to destroy capitalism. Arizona’s real Republican is calling out the filthy bastard and that scares the hell out of people like you. McCain’s day has passed and the filthy bastard’s party doesn’t have room for people like you who call themselves conservative (which mean anything less liberal that outright socialist). You can either discredit real Republicans or admit that you were wrong. The former tactic doesn’t force you to admit that all you bastards were wrong during the last election.
Hey Allah! You elected the filthy liar that is in the White House. His presence is all your fault and you had damned well understand that the rest of us have you to blame. Look I love speculative fiction as much as the next bloke. But it’s only a means to articulate a philosophy and can effectively predict national trends. But to claim that it’s a blueprint for an actual revolution or exodus from the country is just a little far fetched. Do you have any non-speculative fiction based arguments?

Despite evidence after evidence that everything passed has only continued the status quo while Obama gets on TV and pretends it’s marxism now and Senate Democrats undermine progressive legislation? We own 80% of AIG and the political class continues to bleat that “nationalization is not the way.” If you seriously think they are rapidly moving left…well I don’t know what to say. But the media and the public..they are moving left faster than I ever imagined or dreamed.
DeathToMediaHacks on March 19, 2009 at 8:06 PM
Holy crap. I actually agree with DtMH. Simply because FAR too many people in this country do not have the slightest clue WHAT is going on in politics and listen to the LSM and other people to make their opinion.
Almost every single one of my co-workers has the mindset that DtMH wrote whether they swooned over the Messiah or not. Many of them do not like what St. Hope and Change is doing, but they also think it’s all Bush’s fault that this is going on. They believe that the Republican party is filled with trailer trash, redneck, bible thumping, racist pr*cks and old, white, over compensated, greedy, corporate fat cats who have “no clue what it’s like to struggle” and want to keep everyone poor.
And not a single one of them understands a thing about the stock market. They know only that “gas prices go up, it’s Bush’s fault. Gas prices go down, St. Hope and Change did it for us.”
It may be nice that we have Becks and Sheps and Santellis saying what should be said but the problem is, most of this is being dusted under the rug by a media with an agenda. The way that we get through to people is to get them the truth. And it must be repeated over and over and over before they start to get it. While people on this site and other sites may be intelligent and know a lot about our government and how it works, sad to say, most of the people in this country are mindless idiots. They are more concerned with how soon it is until 5 o’clock than they are anything going on in the world.
And that is how people like St. Hope and Change get elected in to office.

Being the true narcissist that he is, it’s time for his weekly injection of adulation, adoration and fawning.

Would somebody please get access to Obaman’s social calender and map how many damn parties he has thrown or attended? Because that is all he has done since 1/21/09.
