Video: Michelle on Pelosi, and enforcement works, part 37B

A new study confirms that labor costs follow the laws of supply and demand. When illegal labor gets removed from the market, employers have to pay more to replace them. The Hill reports on this economic breakthrough that will only shock the open-borders lobby:
As the topic of immigration and workplace raids begins to heat up again in a new administration, a new study finds that wages and employment grew for legal workers after a series of 2006 raids.
The report by Jerry Kammer of the Center for Immigration Studies, a think tank that advocates against amnesty for illegal immigrants yet against mass deportations of the same, looked at the aftermath of six immigration raids at Swift & Co. meat-packing plants in Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, Texas, Colorado, and Utah. About 1,300 undocumented workers were arrested, and another 400 without authorization to work in the United States were detected around the same time through better company screening. …
The study estimates that about 23 percent of the plants’ employees were not authorized to work in the U.S, taking into account that the raids only targeted the first shift of the day and that the CIS investigation revealed large numbers of workers did not show up for the later, post-raid shifts.
“There is good evidence that after the raids the number of native-born workers increased significantly,” Kammer writes, noting that all of the plants were back to full production within five months. “But Swift would not provide information on how its workforce has changed. Swift also has recruited a large number of refugees who are legal immigrants.
“At the four facilities for which we were able to obtain information, wages and bonuses rose on average 8 percent with the departure of illegal immigrants.”
Quelle surprise! Eliminate undercutting labor and compensation increases. Who’d've thunk it? I wonder how long it took wages at those plants to rise 8% before the raids took place. I’d guess at least three or four years.
If Congress really wanted to improve the working environment for Americans, they’d quit fooling around with Card Check and start putting a lot more resources into immigration and employment enforcement. Oh, wait … Nancy Pelosi says that enforcing American laws duly passed by Congress is un-American. By her reckoning, it’s a lot better to strip the rest of America’s workers of the secret ballot than to enforce the laws we pass through Congress.
The boss rips her, but good, and tackles Chris Dodd’s lie as well:

You don’t say.
I agree with Rush, if they start coddling the illegal immigrants in this environment…you’re gonna see global warming alright, in the form of riot fires….
Enforce Immigration Laws
Punish Illegal Employers
Give Our Federal Agents the tools to finish the job

It is this type of information that makes you wonder why the “working guy” voted for Obama. Why is it so difficult to understand that if an employer can hire illegal immigrants cheaply it will mean he doesn’t have to pay Americans better.

I heard ICE raids have been put on hold…and Homeland Security secretary doesnt know who authorized it. hmm…does anyone in Washington know what the hell is going on??

Oh, yeah. I’ve written Peblowsi and let her have it. And I’m proud of it.

Considering that immigration enforcement is an explicit mandate of the Constitution, I can see how she made such claim.

It’s common knowledge that you cannot be liberal and rational at the same time.
It’s all about the liberals and their power, they care not one wit for America or it’s people.

Thanks Ed/AP for having the boss up on two video links this morning. She’s absolutely right as usual.
I wonder if the method to the
democratsocialist madness is to cause a crisis on so many fronts that even the public outcry will be aimed at different directions and thereby less effective. The chaos is coming form all corners!Christian Conservative on March 19, 2009 at 2:24 PM

In one word my brother…no.
Did you ever see the Marx Brothers in A Night at the Opera?
Same management style.

So this “border” thing , is it un-american to?

Funny you would mention that. I saw that a few weeks ago..I think it was on AMC, but Im not sure.
btw..I be a sister, not a brother. lol

I broke the news to my husband yesterday, before he put on his uniform and gun and went out to defend our nation’s borders, that what he was doing was UnAmerican according to speaker Nancy Pelosi.
Between Harry ‘This War Is Lost’ Reid and Nancy ‘Enforcing the Immigration Law is UnAmerican’ Pelosi, they should take their act on the road to boost up our men and women in uniform.
HornetSting on March 19, 2009 at 2:29 PM
Personally, I think Pelosi herself is the epitome of the very meaning of someone or something that is “Un-American”..her picture should be next to the dictionary entry.
She has no loyalties except to herself and how any situation will directly affect her bottom line or boneheaded liberal agendas.

On the bright side, I’m 100% correct on my NCAA bracket and Obambi’s at 22%.

Thank you. It is hard for them to do their jobs when the government is against them. BTW, Ramos and Compean are going to be on Beck, I believe Friday.
The break-in, no dice, thomasaur…we have a really good alarm system in now. And we moved. Thanks for asking. :)
We have to support our Federal Agents, like our Troops, because our government in charge right now is fighting against them!
HornetSting on March 19, 2009 at 2:45 PM
The last attempt at amnesty really ticked me off, especially Bush saying the illegals were ‘doing jobs Americans would not do’. When Reagen signed the last amnesty bill he said “no more”. We were going to secure our borders. What a crock! The politicians lied then, and their lying through their teeth now. BTW, how long is ICE going to “investigate” Obama’s ‘auntie’ who has ignored TWO deportation orders?

Yep, but here’s the kicker, I live in AZ and the gubment is going after Sheriff Joe for “civil rights violations” because Sheriff Joe had the audacity to enforce immigration laws here!
Yeah, it’s un-American…right! So with that Pelosi-logic is it not un-American that AZ now has one of the highest kidnapping rates in the world due to Mexican coyotes and their illegal immigration trafficing, not to mention the out of control drug cartel violence that is starting to spill over into the US, I guess that’s not un-American according to the wicked witch is it?
As far as I’m concerned The People’s Republic of California can’t sink into the sea soon enough, and when it does I hope Nancy is there to enjoy it…what a souless POS she is, she’s a perfect fit with SF values and morals…or lack-there-of!

1. We pay our taxes so that those that didn’t work can now have thier unicorns delivered.
2. We have to shut down the congressional phone system telling our representatives we don’t want lawbreakers to get amnesty.
3. Obama resigns and takes all his democrats with him and moves to Haiti…..I want this one!

Most any Arizonan would probably tell you that if there’s a hold on ICE raids, it’s likely the authorization came from the Secretary of Homeland Defense herself. She did a miserable job of defending the border as governor, and is as pro-amnesty as they come.
Shay on March 19, 2009 at 2:51 PM
He doesn’t necessarily have to go to Haiti… though it would probably be crueler to send them to Rhode Island or Michigan.

We need to stop prosecutions for murders since they too separate fathers from their families. Isn’t liberal logic amazing?
TooTall on March 19, 2009 at 2:57 PM
Quick question: who does Dodd represent, the Treasury Dept., Nancy Pelosi, Barak Obama, or…Americans and the citizens of Connecticut? It seems almost all Democrats have forgotten all about that little detail!
stonemeister on March 19, 2009 at 2:58 PM
Hey Hornet, I didn’t know you had a border guard in the family! Thanks to you and yours for trying to do the right thing.
This thanks is coming from an outraged Mom, who found out 2 days ago that my son, who’s a pilot for a major carrier, is about to be stripped of his ability to carry his weapon on board to keep you safe, and it’s looking like he’s going to be treated like a common criminal with this crazy administration.
What’s next, taking the weapons away from our Border Agents?
Knucklehead on March 19, 2009 at 3:01 PM
Pelosi is freak. This woman should be removed from office.
I cant believe the people of this country would want that creature making decisions for our nation.

I saw it as well…and it’s the channel where Robert Suchandsuch or Ben Mankewitz host the movie…and if I recall correctly, Alec Baldin (GAK!) was co-hosting with Robert for A Night At The Opera.
Patrick S on March 19, 2009 at 3:02 PM
If they “start” coddling them? Honey, they’ve never stopped. The recently passed S-Chip bill gives illegal aliens expanded medical care at taxpayer expense (there was a provision requiring recipients to show they are U.S. citizens or legal residents in the bill — it was stripped out before the bill was finalized); the recently passed “stimulus” bill will create an estimated 300,000 taxpayer-funded jobs that will go to illegal aliens (again, there was a provision to require “stimulus”-fund recipients/employers to use E-Verify to ensure that only U.S. citizens or legal residents were being hired, but once again, Reid and Pelosi made sure the provision was stripped from the final bill).
At a time when millions of Americans can’t find jobs, our federal government is still making sure there are plenty of inducements being created (with our tax dollars) to keep illegal aliens coming here.
AZCoyote on March 19, 2009 at 3:17 PM
Increased labor costs, like tax increases, must be either passed along to the consumer in the form of higher prices or absorbed by the company, resulting in competitive disadvantage (under the reasonable assumption that use of illegal labor is widespread in the meatpacking industry).
A huge problem is selective enforcement. Just how unconnected was Swift & Co. ownership? To which campaigns did they fail to contribute? What out and out bribes did they fail to pay? The problem is gross lack of ethics within our political establishment, independent of party affiliation. Many Republicans are corrupt too, though Democrats seem more brazen about it.
Throw the bums out. We need a clean slate.
exdeadhead on March 19, 2009 at 3:19 PM
Notice how no one was clapping at Nazi Pelosi’s applause lines?
She pauses for a moment and continues on. Uh, Nan…
They don’t understand English.
Ted Torgerson on March 19, 2009 at 3:27 PM
Im sure companies that hire illegals would not like amnesty. They would now have to pay them what you would pay Americans. Lets see no English no education vs English w/high school ed at the same pay. Which do you pick? If there is amnesty expect allot of unemployed new citizens.
Greed on March 19, 2009 at 3:30 PM
Good point.
But not only does Arizona (Phoenix has the distinction of recording the second highest number of Kidnappings in the world) have a high kidnapping rate, it also has second-highest number rate of Social Security Number fraud and identity theft fraud.
The illegals in this country who are not doing unfortunate gang-related stuff are indeed often performing SSN theft, identity theft fraud, and other cases of document fraud against law-abiding USA citizens….
And both political parties welcome this.
At the hospital where I am employed, the finances are really struggling big-time. I work in the Emergency Room. And a lady walked up to the Nurses station and said in bad English, “check up for daughter. She a cold.” And she proceeded to hand over her Medicaid Public Aid card and a photo Identification card from a Central American country. She has no Driver’s License, and she barely spoke any English.
My point in raising that story is this:
those who say the illegals will leave if we prosecute the employers are simply wrong.
The illegals in our country have access to the world’s best healthcare delivery system. And they have it for free, thanks to USA taxpayers subsidizing and paying for it.
Does anyone think the illegals will want to give that up?

Nancy doesn’t even have a brain, she is a San Francisco liberal. Things are getting so stupid in Washington that I don’t know why we even bother with this thread. Just to continue their posturing they even passed the “tax the AIG bonus” thing today.
duff65 on March 19, 2009 at 4:08 PM
I hear ya ColtsFan and I agree, the above story you shared is exactly why many Phoenix/AZ emergency rooms had to close their doors, they just couldn’t afford to keep them open anymore and those that aren’t closed are overwhelmed!
The closing and/or overwhelming of emergency rooms creates two very critical issues:
1) Without enough emergency rooms seriously ill or injured people die.
2) emergency rooms being used for “doctors office visits” (as your story eluded to) for such no-emergencies as a cold overwhelms the emergency room to the point where those that have a legitimate emergency due to injury or illness are having their lives put at risk.
Again I know emergency room personnel are trained in triage and try their best to prioritize those with the most severe injury/illness; the fact is anytime you overwhelm a system the more likely it is hat mistakes will be made!
Not to mention of course that we tax payers are paying for these non-tax-paying people to use and abuse our system just adds insult to injury!
Liberty or Death on March 19, 2009 at 4:15 PM
Nancy, where were you on this issue?
