Quotes of the day

“Call the Palinphobes lacking in logic and they will have tantrums, but this time the sandal might fit. This is the Audacity of Type, a faith-based illusion if ever there was one, the belief that qualities shared by and appealing to pundits and writers – glibness, a worldly patina, and a superficial verbal facility – are those needed to run a great nation in a troubled and dangerous era.
But which is more rational, to place limited trust in a proven reformer, who can learn certain facts she does not know already, or to breathe fictional traits into an unknown quantity, who has never run anything, or ever done much besides talk?”
***
“The key reason Palin would lose to Obama by so much is that even though she might be the top choice for a certain segment of voters within her party, there’s also a number of Republicans who say they would vote for Obama if their party nominated Palin.”

How much would any one of us give to have so much attention being paid to him/her?
Years ahead of time, everybody is obsessed with Sarah! for 2012 President. She, of course, has nothing to say about it but nobody cares. They still chatter on.
If that does not spell frontrunner, nothing does.

For Newspapers – The Wall Street Journal and the Washington Times. I used to read The New York Sun before it went out of business and occasionally The New York Post.
For Economics – The Wall Street Journal, The Cato Institute, The Independent Institute and the Ludwig Von Mises Institute.
For Politics – Hot Air and Newsbusters. Sometimes NRO, Townhall, NewsMax, Raal Clear Politics.
For Global Warming – Junk Science, Climate Audit and Watts Up with That.
There are a lot more but those are off the top of my head.

Also in inverse proportion the more credible that Sarah Palin becomes as a major player in the Presidential sweepstakes in 2012 the less credible as a President that the Messiah becomes. Wow! What a stark contrast! If only it could contunue for the next 4 years.

Here is how to tell a bad republican. A bad republican winks at the audience…even if its a TV camera.
GW Bush…winker
Juan McLame….winker
Sarah Palin….winker
Then there are the good republicans who are good thinkers.
Abraham Lincoln…thinker
Ronald Reagan…thinker
Mitt Romney…..thinker
So, that is why the republican party sucks for the time being. Too many winkers….not enough thinkers.
The Wall on March 19, 2009 at 2:02 AM

That was what made Obama seem like such a winner to many voters. His fundraising totals were record breaking. I saw many anchors and pundits who seemed to have found a new respect for Obama and his campaign once they realized he was a money-making machine. They would drool on camera when reporting his latest fundraising numbers.
It was a combination of record money raised, higher ratings for the MSM when they featured Obama, the crowds in the thousands for his speeches, and the millions of people he was bringing into the Democratic party that made the MSM and the Democratic party choose Obama over Hillary.

At the rate The One is going, anyone the GOP nominates will be able to beat him.
And yes that includes Palin. I don’t get why so many conservatives seem fearful of her getting the nomination. She consistently drew crowds in the thousands during the 2008 campaign, and that was as the #2 on the ticket. She gives a great speech. She’s a quick learner. And she has a proven record of reform which God knows is what we desperately need in government right now.
Romney and Huckabee are both articulate and terrific debaters, but neither of them inspire the base. Jindal is too young and inexperienced. Newt has too much baggage. Ron Paul is old and crazy. Sanford’s state has double-digit unemployment which won’t exactly make him an ideal candidate for change. And we don’t want anyone from Washington at the top of the ticket. Hell, by process of elimination alone, Palin is the best choice.

When does Obama have time to get any work done? I don’t recall any other Presidents on TV all the time like this. At this rate, he may be so overexposed that people will jump at the chance to vote him out in 2012.

Despite Palin having been run as McCain’s VP, she had no control over her own image. The McCain campaign used her like bait to beef up rallies, but kept her from live interviews.
Her main media exposure, besides documentaries prepared by the MSM, was the Couric interview which was taped and edited by the opposition.
When McCain (not Palin) lost, McCain being the class act forgot who Palin was, and his mealy mouthed handlers ran to the cameras to denounce Palin as a loser they had to cover for. RINO pundits joined in as if they were now free to tell the truth, that Palin was a mental midget, unlike McCain and Obama.
Recently, McCain’s daughter is carrying the torch. She is quite a useful idiot who thinks she is on camera because people like her and not simply because she can be egged into casting shadows upon the right.
Currently the public does not know Palin, they know the reputation created by everyone but her.
If Palin gets a chance to define herself it will all change. In the same way Obama is losing luster as his created image is supplanted by his real presence

Although unsavory, there is no rule that Presidents cannot campaign for re-election while in office. It is what Obama does best. Unlike most critics of Obama I do not criticize Obama for this decision; I take the approach ‘it is what it is.’
And for that reason alone I firmly believe that if Sarah Palin wants to run for POTUS in 2012 that she must take the fight to Obama directly in the mid-term elections in 2010 by devoting most of her time in the lower 48 battling Obama-well-financed Democratic candidates, ACORN, and Obama himself who will stump daily in the fall for his candidates.
If Sarah can deliver the goods and produce a phenomenal change in fortune for the GOP in Congress (or even taking back the House or Senate)Sarah will be able with increased fundraising through SarahPAC, I believe, close the door on the other potential primary candidates and walk off with the GOP nomination very early in the primary season.
This is imperative for Sarah, in order to unite the party, coalesce the RNC and the party establishment behind her, exponentially receive more donations for SarahPAC, assemble the millions of volunteers necessary to GOTV, pick a VP candidate and tailor her message into competing against Obama in a fight to the finish.
This is the nightmare scenario for Obama. Remember what Rush Limbaugh said at CPAC: “There are more of us (those who live their lives as conservatives) than of them (liberals).”

chunderroad on March 19, 2009 at 2:39 AM
Also, the Democratic Party and the MSM did a masterful job of using propaganda to convince many women voters that Sarah was a modern day Phyllis Schafly (i.e., an anti-feminist and “opponent of women’s rights”) while promoting Obama and Biden as champions of women rights. A couple of months ago MS. Magazine featured Obama on their cover proclaiming “This is What a Real Feminist Looks Like!”
McCain already had a reputation as a misogynist who wanted to take women’s rights away so that was a double-whammy for the McCain/Palin ticket (I’ve heard stories about how badly he treats Cindy, cheated on his first wife, etc.). For example, I know quite a few PUMAs that could not bring themselves to vote for McCain/Palin because they were convinced by the MSM and Dems that it would be a major step backwards for women (even though most PUMAs hated Obama for stealing the nomination from Hillary).
sarahpalinfan99 on March 19, 2009 at 3:40 AM
Am I crazy or not – what I’d like to see is a mongo interview consisting of Michelle, Laura Ingraham, and Tammy Bruce with Sarah Palin.
But perhaps the world would implode…..
Intrepid on March 19, 2009 at 3:41 AM
One of the most neglected parts of Sarah’s rollout was not emphasizing her libertarian and fiscal conservative credentials. McCain’s teams felt that it had to play up Sarah’s social conservative credentials so much that they sacrificed common sense. How can anybody doubt Sarah was pro-life after giving birth to a Down Syndrome child?
As a result the MSM seized upong the rollout and defined Sarah out to be a religious wacko and an unworldly moron, that unfortunately Sarah was not able to completely shake off.
Being a Palin supporter does not make me blind to reality. Sarah needs to surround her with a competent public relations staff who will prevent this from happening again. That is vital.

What Couric meant: “What does a stupid, backwoods evil conservative without an Ivy League Law Degree possibly read? What could a moron like you possibly look at to fix that stupid world-view that you have. Please say (insert NYT, WaPo, Newsweek, etc here) so I can quote some obscure op-ed and make you look foolish for not knowing exactly what I’m talking about, even though you have been campaigning basically nonstop.”

One of the most overlooked aspects of the campaign was McCain’s previous record in the Senate alienating enough potential conservative voters that they refused to vote at all, voted 3rd party or regretfully voted for Obama.
So much focus was spent on arguing that conservatives spurned the McCain-Palin ticket out of aversion to Palin that the obvious disgust with McCain was surprisingly overlooked by Monday morning quarterbacks.
technopeasant on March 19, 2009 at 3:55 AM
I have never understood why there was not more focus on Sarah challenging Couric correctly when Couric asserted a Kissinger position on Iran that was proved later on not to be accurate. And neither CBS nor Couric ever apologized to Sarah or the McCain for presenting a wrong assertion.

+10 I remember prominent Conservatives like Ann Coulter who said they would never vote for John McCain (although Ann changed her mind when Sarah joined the ticket). I would also hear a lot of Conservative talk radio listeners who would call in and state that they would sit at home or even vote for Obama. I thought most would come around and hold their noses by November 4th but I was wrong. I never realized how much John McCain was despised by Conservatives until he got the nomination.

As you might know 20% of self-proclaimed conservatives (exit polls)voted for Obama. I wonder if Sarah Palin had gone on Rush Limbaugh the Monday after the convention and subsequently made the rounds to Hannity, Levin, Boortz and Hewitt etc that her appearances might have provided just enough nudge for the conservatives that you were referring to to take a second look at McCain because of Palin. Of course we’ll never know because McCain and his handlers completely disdained right-wing talk radio treating it like it was a bitter enemy to their cause rather than a sympathetic booster.
It’s quite possible that McCain’s enmity towards Rush Limbaugh caused McCain the election, although the financial meltdown significantly caused McCain’s decline in the polls for from the middle of September to the first week of October.

This is the biggest problem with the Republican party. Their constant need to eat their own. Some folks, like the Wall or Poptech no doubt think it makes them independent, it does not. It just makes them impossible to please and chronically fault finding. As far as I am concerned they are every bit as respoonsible for the fact that Obama is president as is any left leaning demagogue.
And I don’t want to hear any babble about how if only the GOP would say how high when they said Jump it would not be necessary to stab their own in the back.
The Wall, as for all that thinker winker nonsense..it might interest you to know that both Lincoln and Reagan were known to wink from time to time and both of them were considered idiots by many people who said they were Republicans.
As for Romney, I doubt very much if he would appreciate you using him this way. He voted for Palin and no doubt if given the option of Obama or Palin would vote for her again.
And the Juan McLame crap is petty, small minded and juvenile. If Republicans want to win they need to grow up and be serious. You aren’t. You are just name calling and back stabbing.

What costs a lot of conservatives elections in general however, is their constant need to attack each other. It is just so disheartening. “Conservatism”, in the sense of naturally-given individual rights to “life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness” is just a description of reality. Leftists still don’t seem to know this. To say “conservatism is dead” is to say “reality is dead”, which is clearly absurd.
Now, departures from the essential intellectual insights of conservatism can die because they are not homologous with reality. But, before you get too happy, no single aspect of current-day leftism is homologous with reality, so not only is leftism “dead”, it was never alive, in the sense of being a description of reality. Intellectually speaking, of course. Practically speaking, leftists can and do win elections and power, but the societies they set up are unsustainable, hence the collapse of the Soviet bloc and the coming collapse of European socialism. Even the most “small scale” attempts at leftism, like the kibbutzim in Israel, fail.
I’m very “intellectual” and have run through all the possible intellectual and historical permutations of leftism from “soft” to “hard” and the simple fact is that none of them make sense. On this point, the evidence is irrefutable.

There is nothing more pathetic than someone, like athensboy, trying to convince himself of sometime while simultaneously convincing others.

Last night on Fox during Hannity they showed video of Obambi speaking. The cameraman shot from an angle looking through the teleprompter at Obambi. His head, and even his ears were totally framed by the teleprompter screen. It was hilarious!
ctmom on March 19, 2009 at 8:03 AM
Could be, Terry, but instead of using the meltdown to demonstrate his leadership, he ended up looking like a chump and Ogabe looked “smooth.”
McCain ran a lousy campaign and let one opportunity after another to really batter Obama go by and let every opportunity to let himself look like the weakling be exploited.
I voted for him (but mostly I voted for Sarah), but he was a terrible candidate and I never did grow to like him very much.
(His “reaching across the aisle” talk drove me crazy!)
If the primary hadn’t already been decided by the time it got to TX, I would have voted for Rudy or Fred to be our candidate.
We got stuck with McCain but blessed with Palin.

Palin “could” easily walk away with it in 2012 if she would avoid running a traditional/conventional GOP style campaign. First on the list? Make the case that the MSM has lost all credibility with their fawning worship of Obama. Once accomplished then – avoid them like the plague. Yes there’d be firestorm to weather. It’d take courage but that is what needs to be done in order to win. Break out of the rotten system. DD

O Creator of Worlds.
The job Palin was applying for was to be President on Day One.
She was simply not qualified for that position.
She failed her job interview with the electorate.
A bigger problem is the question of the viability of Jacksonian populism in the 21st century. Sure, in 18th century agrarian America, a Noble Yeoman Farmer could rise to lead. In the 21st century…..prob’ly not so much.

“What every American needs to know about central bank power. A gripping adventure into the secret world of the international banking cartel.”

Mises holds seminars on the Federal Reserve at Jekyll Island, and they remind you that “All our conferences on such diverse topics as welfare, bureaucracy, war and monetary reform are available online.”
According to Reason and a bunch of longtime libertarians in the blogosphere, Mises founder Lew Rockwell wrote the crazier stuff in those Ron Paul newsletters. You’ll still find the occasional opposition to WWII and the Civil War, even Abraham Lincoln’s entire presidency on Mises.

Umm, aren’t you the same intellectual ass wipe that voted for a guy who thinks America is a country of 57 states?
Keemo on March 19, 2009 at 8:54 AM
I can’t imagine why Sarah would even consider running for potus ever following the attacks waged against her husband and kids just a few months back. Why bother serving a country that allowed that kind of behavior?

Let us taKE A GOOD LOOK AT dA bAMA FOR ONE SECOND …
The protest shakedowns are among a slew of accusations that Ms. Heidelbaugh intends to make against the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now. She also will accuse the nonprofit group of violating tax, campaign-finance and other laws by sharing a list of President Obama’s maxed-out campaign donors to solicit more funds for a get-out-the-vote drive.
Then we have the perfect example of a democrat commander-in-cheif …
Da Bama has sucessfully proven, beyond any reasonable doubt, that the Democrat Party stands as the symbol of greed and corruption. Try as many may, they cannot blame the AIG, Freddie/Fannie, ACORN, or the porkulus bills on anyone except for themselves. All they can do is scream, Bush! Rush Limbaugh!
Hey! You democrat socialist America haters. Do you know what the $101,332 dollars which Obama Received from AIG is really worth today? It is worth TRILLIONS to the GOP as they just cannot buy advertising like this for any price.
Like it or not, Da Bama makes Palin like a goddess as he shows that the democrat party is loaded with bums.
Kick the bums out in 2010!

The article was, indeed, quite sloppy thinking.
AnninCA on March 19, 2009 at 9:05 AM
That behavior was more indicative of the Obama campaign than the entire country. There might be enough people who would vote to oust the Chicago machine from our nation’s capital. Those people might be more inclined to support Palin more than they did McCain or Romney. Palin’s career focus has been reform. The GOP is lucky to have her.

Strange Brew, she is ten times more qualified than the Clueless Community Organizer that’s in there now.
…And she has never voted Present.

I have read this entire thread, and all I’m seeing here is ad hominem attacks against Palin. Gee, she worked on a fishing boat, but isn’t that a real job? What real jobs has Obama had, other than community organizer? And don’t say law professor; I work in Academe, and that’s not the real world (I know the difference because I worked in the private sector for over 20 years). Those who attack Palin are afraid to talk about her record of accomplishments. Okay, so Alaska is not the most populous state in the country, but that should be unimportant. One does not get to be a governor for no good reason (Arnold excepted). She has executive experience, she is reform minded, and she has managed to take on her state’s entrenched political structure. These are all desirable qualifications in a President. If you disagree with her social conservatism, fine, but attacking her personally says less about her qualifications as a candidate than it says about your own qualifications as an insightful pundit.
Unfortunately, for some, being attractive is even more of a detriment because smart, attractive women are a threat, especially if they are highly successful and conservative. If she were a card-carrying liberal, she could be forgiven for this (witness Gloria Steinem who committed the cardinal sin of getting married, oh my).
Question Palin’s qualifications, if you must or if you can, but attacking her personally adds nothing to the argument.

The first Pope had also worked on a fishing boat, and Jesus confided to him the keys of Heaven. Working on a fishing boat doesn’t disqualify a person from a higher calling.
