Quotes of the day

posted at 10:30 pm on March 18, 2009 by Allahpundit

“Call the Palinphobes lacking in logic and they will have tantrums, but this time the sandal might fit. This is the Audacity of Type, a faith-based illusion if ever there was one, the belief that qualities shared by and appealing to pundits and writers – glibness, a worldly patina, and a superficial verbal facility – are those needed to run a great nation in a troubled and dangerous era.

But which is more rational, to place limited trust in a proven reformer, who can learn certain facts she does not know already, or to breathe fictional traits into an unknown quantity, who has never run anything, or ever done much besides talk?”

***
“The key reason Palin would lose to Obama by so much is that even though she might be the top choice for a certain segment of voters within her party, there’s also a number of Republicans who say they would vote for Obama if their party nominated Palin.”

They over sampled Dems by a 44-33 margin. Today’s generic congressional ballot shows Repubs up 41-39. This poll is worthless.

takeamericabackin10 on March 18, 2009 at 10:35 PM

Sarah Palin looks better, and better everyday after seeing this disgrace in the WH.

ousoonerfan15 on March 18, 2009 at 10:35 PM

The media has been bashing Palin for about 9 months none stop, and she hasn’t really been able to defend herself for the last 4 months or so. I’m shocked the numbers are as close as they are.

Let’s see what people think as the O-cession continues to deepen.

18-1 on March 18, 2009 at 10:35 PM

Well, its good to see that the left’s hatchet job has not gone unrewarded. They are at least competent at something.

johnsteele on March 18, 2009 at 10:35 PM

Like other commenters before, I’m calling bluff on the second “conclusion” by the pollsters. Please. A real Republican would never vote for Obama. Maybe stay home if they hated the Repub candidate, but not vote for a socializer. Sigh… I hate Polls-to-Make-News.

“The key reason Palin would lose to Obama by so much is that even though she might be the top choice for a certain segment of voters within her party, there’s also a number of Republicans who say they would vote for Obama if their party nominated Palin.”

Then they’re idiots. The best definition of intellectual I can think of is the one my father gave me when I was a little boy and so terrible impressed by an Ivy League type I saw on TV. “An intellectual is someone who thinks deep thoughts, but can’t actually do anything useful.” Seems the republican party is now loaded with them.

No worries, President Pinnochios’ bizarre and erratic behavior and worse policy decisions coupled with his shoddy treatment of every foreign dignitary that has set foot on U.S. soil since his election shows that he is seriously damaged goods and may be bordering on a nervous breakdown or severe A.D.D. and may not be able to serve out his four year term.

He even read his own speech and the Irishmans speech congratulating himself in the process at the St. Paddys’ Day party.

This is the flip side of their refusal to be disturbed by the fact that Obama had no record to speak of, as long as he looked like a Gap or Vogue model, and could write and could talk up a storm. A Gap or Vogue model would never disgrace you, and besides, he was there.

Oh yeah, he can talk up a storm, as long as his trusty teleprompter is by his side.

Obama will lose significant support in 2012 due to higher unemployment, lower or negative GDP and inflation, not to mention enormous debt. A good size of his base will sit that election out.

Republicans should be focusing on governors’ races in NY and NJ, for example, and the Congressional midterms.

4 years is a long time in politics. So much of what happens depends on things outside her control. I just hope Sarah learned during the campaign how much she needs to know. I hope she has a support circle like Reagan did. She has the brains and the charisma. She just needs to do the work. She would be a great president.

Obviously 52% of the “rational” voters believed in fairy tales. They can now repent at their leisure.

GarandFan on March 18, 2009 at 11:11 PM

I think this is the wildcard of 2012. The media was able to run game against Palin but in 4 years what is the public mood towards the Obama loving media? Do they dare running the same game against Sarah? I think the lay of the land to safely smear Palin will be possibly different for 2 reasons.

a) Obama was sold to the USA by the media. People will blame the salesman for the bad car and not being bad shoppers. This leads to wanting to believe the reverse of the media.

b) Palin won’t be caught in a sudden whirlwind of investigation where rumor runs fast. God knows they will flip ever dirty card face up to see way ahead of time. Think Obama got out from underneath Rev. Wright (with media help)but what helped him the most were people were tired of the issue after a while and it didn’t matter to people by Nov 4th. Anti-Palin forces will punch themselves out and combined with a media of (a) They won’t be able to just say take our word for it about Palin.

Conan on March 18, 2009 at 11:12 PM

Obama will win in 2012, come what may.

Why? Guilt. Most of those who voted for him in 2008, because of guilt, won’t have the guts to admit their error. However, after two terms, those same people are off the hook.

Perhaps, it is indeed true that Palin doesn’t appeal to more than a core segment of conservatives and is unelectable. She didn’t help herself with that sham engagement of Bristol and Levi. As Debbie Schlussel notes,

“I thought their engagement was a fiction put on by the Palin family to help win the Presidential election. And, unfortunately, I was right. As I noted, this kid had a very pretentious name (“Tripp Easton Mitchell Johston”), but not what was far more important–a father married to his mother.”

Has the mainstream media even reported on the teleprompter gaffes, trying to enter the window of the White House, bumping his head (Ford like) on the helicopter, saying one thing and then saying another, 57 states, etc., etc. or do we get these only through Fox and the conservative blogs? Can you just imagine if they could pin something like any one of these on Sarah????
The comedians can’t find anything funny about Obama? It would be hilarious if it weren’t so sad.

Not that I’m hoping for Palin … she is (albeit unfairly) a toxic asset … but maybe if things got bad enough with Obama the GOP turncoats would rethink. That said, its Romney or Mitch Daniels all the way.

Sorry, I meant to use block quotes.

Notice the three parts of The Prestige.

1. The Pledge. “Gee, I like Palin as much as you guys, cause I’m a concerned, faithful Republican voter.

2. The Turn. “But I worry that she’s unelectable.”

3. The Prestige. “Mitt Romney, though… now there’s a guy with real charisma. A leader, you know what I mean?”
