Pelosi: Enforcing American immigration law is un-American

Spectacular Hispandering (as Kaus calls it) from Madam Speaker, coinciding with The One’s decision to toss yet another hot-button issue that he doesn’t have to deal with right now onto his already crowded plate. Describing positions she disagrees with as un-American or unpatriotic is an endearing little habit of Pelosi’s and comes this time with a twist: Not only are immigration raids unpatriotic, apparently, but illegal aliens are among the greatest patriots of all.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi recently told a group of both legal and illegal immigrants and their families that enforcement of existing immigration laws, as currently practiced, is “un-American.”…

“You are special people. You’re here on a Saturday night to take responsibility for our country’s future. That makes you very, very patriotic.”

“I was embarrassed by what she said,” said Rick Oltman, with Californians for Population Stabilization, an anti-illegal immigrant group. “Exhorting illegal aliens for taking responsibility for our country’s future…. In fact, sitting there in the audience…. I really resented that comment.”

This also coincides with a new poll from Rasmussen showing 68% support for punishing businesses that hire illegals, up slightly from a few years ago despite the headwinds from Hopenchange. No matter. Like The One says, “I won.” And like the boss says, “The question is not whether, but when.”

AIG hired (or retained) employees to supervise and wind down the financial products division’s book of business, then well in excess of $2 trillion. Since the business was being wound down, these jobs were not great career opportunities. So AIG entered into agreements with its employees that if they would stay for a given period of time, they would earn a bonus. The bonuses that fueled the current controversy were paid to employees who held up their end of the bargain by remaining with AIG.

So an employee is promised a bonus if he stays on and works another year in what would otherwise be a dead-end job; in reliance on that offer, he stays and works for a year. Now Congress wants the bonus back. It’s hard to understand how that comports with anyone’s idea of fairness, let alone legality.

Remember when George Bush was “shredding the Constitution?” Ah, those were the good old days! Now we have Congressional Democrats trying to give themselves political cover by advocating patently unconstitutional legislation singling out a few thousand employees of a single company for a “tax” that would reclaim money that they were promised, and earned, with the full knowledge and consent of the Federal Reserve and, it turns out, Congress. (powerline)

The American Constitution is beneath Liberals… If these people continue to show such blatant disregard for our Constitution, for our laws, they must be forced to resign.

Keemo on March 18, 2009 at 7:53 PM

Pelosi needs to be forced to write a phrase from the preamble to OUR Constitution 100,000,000,000 times on the chalkboard:

“to ourselves and our Posterity”.

Let her explain what the “ourselves” and “our Posterity” means.

I wish James Polk were still alive to give Pelosi the treatment she really deserves. We have another contender for the Grassley Challenge.

Of course the House Madame would say this. She needs more domestic help for her homes.

Defending this country from enemies foreign and domestic puts Madame second only to the Caliph on the list of DOMESTIC enemies.

SeniorD on March 18, 2009 at 7:54 PM

I wish Pelosi felt the same about my Canadian husband. We’ve spent thousands on legal fees trying to get him back to the States in full compliance with the law, while he never really broke the law to begin with. When they reviewed our file when we were married, they decided he’d been abusing tourist visas. They said if he had a problem with it, they’d ban him for 10 years to life. It’s been 4 now.

Phrases like “hispandering” bug me. The people who want to enforce the law are in the right, but they often manage to find the perfect way to alienate hispanic Americans with their argument. (Another example of this was criticizing John McCain by calling him Juan McCain.) It’s unnecessary.

Anyhow, back to laughing at Pelosi. It’s both funny and sad that we got beat my these mean-spirited dorks.

Separating fathers and children is un-American UNLESS the kid is a Cuban refugee, who is legally here, then Pelosi is ALL FOR busting down the door at night and ripping the child from the father and sending him back to Fidel. Legal refugee children cant vote for Democrats you see, but illegal mexican adults CAN!

I’d like for this bitch to say that in front of the men and women of the U.S. Border Patrol and ICE who go out day and night and protect this country from enemies bent on invading the United States.

The only time ICE ‘kicks down doors in the middle of the night’ is when the have a fugitive CRIMINAL illegal alien to arrest.
If the illegal aliens don’t want to be separted from their families, then go the (*$^& home! You’re not supposed to be here anyway, leeches.

I agree with you on everything about illegal immigration, I think. I just believe that we should use more polite language. I’m not embarrassed to oppose illegal immigration (I’m proud to, in fact), I just dislike that particular word.

I know you mean well. Everybody should just keep quiet and not hurt anybody’s feelings. However, may I ask why we should worry about alienating aliens? Your choice of words is even more thoughtless than those you complain about. I know lots of Americans of Hispanic descent. They are offended by illegal aliens. Shall we keep this up??? I think I will report this to Obama’s newly created Department of Redundant Redundancies.

Old Country Boy on March 18, 2009 at 8:36 PM

Describing positions she disagrees with as un-American or unpatriotic is an endearing little habit of Pelosi’s and comes this time with a twist: Not only are immigration raids unpatriotic, apparently, but illegal aliens are among the greatest patriots of all.

In Nancy Pelosi’s plantation-centric world everything is botox overdose induced delusion. Nothing is what it is because everything is what it isn’t. And contrary-wise; what it is, it isn’t, and what it isn’t, it is. You see?

Cheshire Cat on March 18, 2009 at 8:38 PM

I’m beginning to think Obama really does want just one term. Why else bring up amnesty now? The country is in no mood for yet another law that will reward people who have behaved selfishly and lawlessly, while punishing those who behaved responsibly and played by the rules. We’ve seen far too much of that already from Obama and the Democrats.

The majority of the country has already said no to amnesty, and that was when we had nearly full employment. It is ludicrous to believe that Americans are going to be receptive to the idea of legalizing tens of millions of unskilled, under-educated, non-English speaking foreigners who are going to be competing with Americans for scarce jobs and further burdening our already massively overburdened taxpayer-funded services.

Is Obama really so delusional about his own powers of persuasion that he thinks he can convince Americans to accept amnesty, or is something else going on here?

AZCoyote on March 18, 2009 at 8:38 PM

sandberg on March 18, 2009 at 7:56 PM

Agreed. But the party is currently plunging into extremism. The loudest, angriest voices on each issue shout down the moderating voices and we are left with a discourse that is the most extreme possible despite the often conflicting message between issues.

We are now have conservative ‘base’ that think it’s acceptable to say blacks are too stupid or too racist to vote against Obama so there is no point reaching out to them. The corollary is we can then use offensive rhetoric to appeal to people in agreement.

It is perfectly acceptable to go on anti Islam tirades and link to websites with grossly offensive and bigoted material.

Hispanics are to busy trying to get their relatives into the country to ever vote for any party wishing to defend our borders so we again can use divisive rhetoric to pander to extremists on this issue too. Except of course those ‘genuine’ American Hispanics of Cuban decent.

Issue after issue we loose support because we tell people they aren’t welcome unless they accept the often disrespectful rhetoric.

Reagan is turning in his grave.

Get with the program or GET THE HELL OUT OF THE WAY! THIS IS OUR COUNTRY. WE ARE TAKING IT BACK!

I’ll let you in on a little secret about why I no longer care about angering illegal aliens.

My parents live in Bexar County, Texas. Their neighborhood has been overrun by illegal aliens. They drive around at all hours of the day and night, blaring tejano music, with loud bass that shakes their windows. They have parties during the week, on weekends, whenever where they get drunk, play their music loud, and yell, in the middle of the night.
My parent’s neighbors leave trash everywhere, that blows into their yard. This is the trash of at least three families that live there. Since moving in FIVE years ago, the three women that live there have had kids EVERY year! They drive a Chevy truck and a Cadillac Escalade.
They treat Americans in the neighborhood like THEY are the ones that shouldn’t be here in this country.
My father yelled at one guy to slow down after he peeled out near children. He got a Eff you for his trouble.
When my parents call the cops, they come out and tell the illegals to turn down their radios, but they don’t do anything about the root of the problem because Bexar County fails to enforce the federal law.
My parents own a small business. They cannot afford insurance, they have to compete with companies that hire illegal aliens, and now they have to live in a community that is overrun and looks like a third world nation.
Am I worried about offending illegal aliens. NO!
I am an American of Mexican descent and I am tired of politicians and MSM saying that ‘hispanics’ will be offended if we want to enforce the law.
These are invaders and they need to go home!
That is why I want to take my country back, one commnunity at a time.

HornetSting on March 18, 2009 at 8:43 PM

I long ago got sick and tired of the sleazy chuck-and-jive shamnesty politicians of which John McCain was the chief ring leader with Nancy Pelosi now obviously far eclipsing him. The reason that Republican supporters of “Comprehensive Immigration Reform” want it is so that they and/or their campaign contributors can have serf labor. They would probably prefer actual out-and-out slaves but that is illegal.

The reason that shamnesty Democrats want this is so that those who are now illegal can become legal and vote for them. Many of them probably also want to do this for the same reason that shamnesty Republicans do too.

Does anyone think that many of these shamnesty politicians really care one wit otherwise for the illegals.

Does anyone think that any of the shamnesty politicians are going to invite these Mexican Indios and Mezclados to join their elite/exclusive golf clubs?

Come to live in their gated communities, other than as servants?

Invite them to their yachts, other than as low paid deck hands and/or servants?

Invite them to their cocktail parties?

Introduce them to their daughters?

The big majority of the Mexicans who have come here/will come here are Indios and Mezclados, not the Spanish descendant light-skinned ruling class of Mexico. This is a form of ethnic cleansing by Mexico’s ruling class.

So the shamnesty politicians like Nancy Pelosi are aiding and abetting and facilitating ethnic cleansing.

If the U.N. were not such a joke, she would be standing trial for trying to reintroduce a form of latter-day-slavery in the United States and for the mass ethnic cleansing of Mexico.

Wow….amazed you posted this. I assumed that starting a thread to show the stupidity of congressional views towards ILLEGAL immigration would be to “populist” for you AP?

melachiro on March 18, 2009 at 8:51 PM

That’s nice. But since you were replying to me, I’ll let you in on what’s apparently a little secret, too: My post had nothing to do with angering illegal aliens. But hey, fight that strawman!

And yes, the correct term for illegal aliens is “illegal aliens”. Yeesh. All I’m saying is that the word “hispandering” sounds really really dumb.

Anyhow, have a nice night.

sandberg on March 18, 2009 at 8:49 PM

Fair enough, sandberg. We are on the same page…I’m more worried about our country, as you are, and not some label that AP wants to use.

Remind me never to get you ticked at me, sweetie.

Here’s my story. I was stocking dairy overnight at Wal-Mart
back in 2001, between jobs. The cleaning crew came in and was getting in the way. I tried to speak to them, but of course, I got, No Habla Ingles. A little later, I was taking a carton of broken eggs to the back and one of them said, “Hey man! You’re getting eggs all over our clean floor!.” I have Hispanic friends that view them the same way you do, Hornet. This amnesty garbage has been tried before. Remember what happened then?

kingsjester on March 18, 2009 at 8:53 PM

I have as much pull during a primary as you do bucko and I’ll have you know that whack jobs like you using extremist bravado are seen as the paper tigers you are by everyone I know.

Pot bellied yokels pissing and moaning down at the local, too drunk to ever mount a real challenge. Always complaining how those with enough conviction to actually work for change in our party/country are never doing enough or not doing it right.

pox on you.

barkolounger on March 18, 2009 at 8:39 PM

You sound like a very angry person, barko my lad, very angry. Having so much anger is not healthy for you. You must make an appointment with me or preferably with a colleague of mine as I am semi-retired now and yet still very busy. Just a prescription for a few edificatious pills might be enough for your condition but only if your condition does not progress to far.

I have a feeling it is going to be tried again. This president and Plastic Nan don’t seem to care about America.
My fingers still hurt from Summer of 2007.
Good to hear from you, king. I would never be angry at you. I will stand pitchfork to pitchfork with you. :)

No, you said…

Get with the program or GET THE HELL OUT OF THE WAY! THIS IS OUR COUNTRY. WE ARE TAKING IT BACK!

So someone that disagrees with YOU, isn’t part of the WE, which is an American.

Got it.

ummmmm….no offense, but you aren’t too bright are you!
Few posters, and even fewer “conservatives” could cram so much misinformation in so few words.
Let me just take one…the blacks have been schooled by the democrats now for about 40 years, the dems control every inner city school district and have for that 40 years. How are the blacks doing in school? How about 30-40% drop out rate (65% in Detroit), our of control out of wed lock children…no it’s not us who are afraid to “reach out” we just don’t want to give a “hand out”, we have seen what that does. To continue would just have us perpetrate the continued injustice to a once great emerging class of people.
That was just one of you foolish mis-judgements about conservatives.
Too bad you have forgotten about 9/11, and all the beheadings, and the dancing in the streets…you are a fool, no offense.

barkolounger on March 18, 2009 at 8:39 PM

You are absolutely correct we do not WANT illegal aliens of any kind in our country. I for one am tired of all of our politicians pandering to specifically the Mexican community, over immigration. Yes, there are those illegals who genuinely want a better life for their families, but they are no better than any other immigrant attempting to make a better life for their families. Unfortunately, a lot of the illegals are no better than leeches and live off of the hard working American citizen. “Moderates” insult me. These are people who have absolutely NO IDEA of what they truly stand for. These are the people who stick thier fingers in the air to see which way the wind is blowing on that particular day. It is no wonder they never truly fight for any cause.

You sound like a very angry person, barko my lad, very angry. Having so much anger is not healthy for you.

Funny that when someone is angry that the party they belong to winds up in the political wilderness, leaderless and without direction, they are suffering mental illness.

Yet the extremist ranting and raving, the intolerance and xenophobia that threatens to keep us out in the cold goes undiagnosed.

Perhaps that is a reason among many we are where we are.

barkolounger on March 18, 2009 at 9:05 PM

Citizens arrest for providing aid to criminals, guilt by association, deception under oath when sworn in- to work for the best interest of Americans.
Works for me.

I wish James Polk were still alive to give Pelosi the treatment she really deserves. We have another contender for the Grassley Challenge.

Well, I did have that possibility in the back of my mind, of course, being the highly trained professional that I am, but I always try to start off being optimistic with any new potential patient. I suppose we can probably just forget the pills and go straight to showing him a picture of his mother will applying electroshock treatment to his testicles.

Sigmund on March 18, 2009 at 9:08 PM

Pelosi is a total moron. She should be removed as speaker, censored by her peers, and recalled by the voters of her district. Well, one can dream can’t they?
How about drawn and quartered?

GFW on March 18, 2009 at 9:08 PM

Can we ship this stupid (insert word for female dog here) to some other country? Perhaps the UAE? I am getting sick and tired of this BS from the left, next they’ll says it’s improper to keep known terrorists from coming to the US. Un-friggen-believable!

BadMojo on March 18, 2009 at 8:26 PM

Oh but Mojo, didn’t you get the memo from Ms. Napolitano? We no longer have “terrorists” or enemy combatants. Now we only have people that create “man-made” disasters. Add to that, AG Holder said today that some Gitmo prisoners could be released into the US. Between illegal immigration and man-made diaster bringers being allowed to roam freely amongst us, guess that whole terror alert thingy is out the window. Can’t upset or frighten anyone, now can we?

Oh, and today Obama also quietly (the stuff he does off camera like signing the omnibus porkulous budget that he doesn’t want to have his picture connected with) ended the program that allows commercial pilots to carry guns in the cockpits. Just his little way of inserting a bit of gun control at the expense of public safety while being sneaky at the same time. As a flight attendant, I know I feel SO much safer now!!

You’re an American. That gives you the right to share your opionions. However, it doesn’t give you, as a Moderate, the right to label Conservatives as Neanderthals. And, by the way, if President Reagan is shedding a tear in Heaven right now, it’s because we have the worst President in history in the White House and his beloved Republican Party is trying very hard to be Democrat-Lite. President Reagan was a Conservative.

By the way, Congress’s Phone Banks blew up during the last try to pass Amnesty. It will happen again.
