Great news: ACORN helping hire workers for U.S. Census

posted at 6:39 pm on March 17, 2009 by Allahpundit

Not a huge deal, I think, given the sheer numbers we’re talking about — the Census Bureau has 250 organizational partners soliciting one million applicants for 140,000 jobs — but combine this with The One’s tentative efforts to assume greater control of the census and we’re looking at hours and hours of rich bloggy goodness next year when the inevitable stories about lost forms and miscounts start to appear.

“It’s a concern, especially when you look at all the different charges of voter fraud. And it’s not just the lawmakers’ concern. It should be the concern of every citizen in the country,” Rep. Lynn A. Westmoreland, R-Ga., vice ranking member of the subcommittee for the U.S. Census, told FOXNews.com. “We want an enumeration. We don’t want to have any false numbers.”…

“The Census (Bureau) is a nonpartisan, non-political agency and we’re very dedicated to an accurate account,” bureau spokesman Stephen Buckner told FOXNews.com. “We have a lot of quality controls in place to keep any kind of systemic error or fraudulent behavior to affect the counts.”

Buckner said the bureau received an overwhelming number of qualified applicants — more than 1 million — for the 140,000 census taker jobs filled to complete the first phase of the effort. Each applicant, he said, must take a basic skills exam, which includes reading a map and entering data into a handheld computer. Applicants are also subject to an FBI background check, he said.

But Buckner acknowledged that it is difficult to track an applicant’s political background.

“I have no way of tracking any of that information,” he said. “If somebody comes in to a position with a political agenda and their work exhibits that, there are rules against that,” he said.

Good thing ACORN doesn’t have a political agenda. Exit question: Given how many other partners it has, why would the Bureau invite the appearance of impropriety by hooking up with a group as tainted as this? Their latest, greatest hit, you’ll recall, was breaking into foreclosed homes to reinstate the former owners, a practice they admit constitutes trespassing. Does Buckner want to spend the next year being asked about stuff like that?

Our questions didn’t matter before the election and now, having won, they are emboldened. They care very little. There IS no accountability or shame in Washington.

What ever happened to the days when companies that have been repeatedly indicted and convicted of multiple felony counts in multiple states were shut down and it’s executives went to prison?

Oh, I guess that only applies to for-profit companies. If it’s a non-profit, we reward this behavior by giving them billions in taxpayer dollars and awarding them government contracts.

My mistake.

sven10077 on March 17, 2009 at 6:45 PM

There is no reason on Earth why ACORN is still allowed to survive as an entity. It should have been shut down with a huge RICO case, putting all of its officers in jail for decades, many of its lower low-lifes in there along with them, and the organization dissolved.

As long as ACORN is allowed to exist this cr#p will continue. People need to go to jail. Period.

I suppose the squatters are “under-counted” in the census, so ACORN needs to infiltrate and corrupt that process the same way they have done to elections.

It’s not just the potential for ACORN to screw with the numbers.

ACORN empoys bad people. During the last census, I got the full questionaire, which is invasive.

omeone is very likely to notice if you do not fill out and return your form. After April 1 in a census year, all of the responses received by the U.S. Census Bureau will be compared to major lists of U.S. residences. If your response has not been received — or if you didn’t complete all the questions on your form — someone from the census will contact you for that information. The census is a $6.5 billion dollar project. They can afford to be thorough!

If you refuse to give out the information or you deliberately give inaccurate information, you can be in legal trouble. According to United States Code, Title 13 (Census), Chapter 7 (Offenses and Penalties), SubChapter II, if you’re over 18 and refuse to answer all or part of the Census, you can be fined up to $100. If you give false answers, you’re subject to a fine of up to $500. If you offer suggestions or information with the “intent to cause inaccurate enumeration of population,” you are subject to a fine of up to $1,000, up to a year in prison, or both. Here’s the official verbiage:

221. Refusal or neglect to answer questions; false answers

* (a) Whoever, being over eighteen years of age, refuses or willfully neglects, when requested by the Secretary, or by any other authorized officer or employee of the Department of Commerce or bureau or agency thereof acting under the instructions of the Secretary or authorized officer, to answer, to the best of his knowledge, any of the questions on any schedule submitted to him in connection with any census or survey provided for by subchapters I, II, IV, and V of chapter 5 of this title, applying to himself or to the family to which he belongs or is related, or to the farm or farms of which he or his family is the occupant, shall be fined not more than $100.

* (b) Whoever, when answering questions described in subsection (a) of this section, and under the conditions or circumstances described in such subsection, willfully gives any answer that is false, shall be fined not more than $500.

* (c) Notwithstanding any other provision of this title, no person shall be compelled to disclose information relative to his religious beliefs or to membership in a religious body.

Sec. 222. Giving suggestions or information with intent to cause inaccurate enumeration of population

Whoever, either directly or indirectly, offers or renders to any officer or employee of the Department of Commerce or bureau or agency thereof engaged in making an enumeration of population under subchapter II, IV, or V of chapter 5 of this title, any suggestion, advice, information or assistance of any kind, with the intent or purpose of causing an inaccurate enumeration of population to be made, shall be fined not more than $1,000 or imprisoned not more than one year, or both.

Anybody who thinks Obama is stupid should take a look at how he is amassing power from the bottom up: the census will determine congressional seats and allotments from his taxpayer-funded stimulus slush fund. A majority of voters will soon be fully on the dole one way or the other and will not give a damn about anything except “where’s my free government cheese.”

The other 48% will be on the outside, in every way.

Well, this just made my day…….NOT!

I was an FOS (Field Operating Supervisor) for the Census back in 2000 and just got the call 2 weeks ago that I’m hired again (it’s a great way to make some extra cash). Among my various duties was to teach the 5 day class to prepare the enumerators (door knockers) on how to fill in the Census form and then fill in the appropriate info into “binders”, along with adding/subtracting homes on the maps which were included in the binders.

This system is so antiquated, and overly complicated even some of the smartest people I know had a hard time getting the procedures done correctly. Teaching this stuff to morons is not for the faint of heart.

An FOS oversee’s crew leaders who have to “double check” and reverify about a third of what the enumerators turn in. I can only hope that those of us “higer ups” will be able to nail these idiots if they pull this crap.

But then again, I may get fired if they find out I didn’t vote for the Boy King.

Callie C. on March 17, 2009 at 8:49 PM

ACORN voter fraud is all part of the Cloward-Piven strategy:

In 1982, partisans of the Cloward-Piven strategy founded a new “voting rights movement,” which purported to take up the unfinished work of the Voting Rights Act of 1965. Like ACORN, the organization that spear-headed this campaign, the new “voting rights” movement was led by veterans of George Wiley’s welfare rights crusade. Its flagship organizations were Project Vote and Human SERVE, both founded in 1982. Project Vote is an ACORN front group, launched by former NWRO organizer and ACORN co-founder Zach Polett. Human SERVE was founded by Richard A. Cloward and Frances Fox Piven, along with a former NWRO organizer named Hulbert James.

Where can I get my NOBAMA sticker?? At this point, I don’t care if my car gets vandalized.

This country is now officially a nightmare. There is no way taking this into the whitehouse is without dark evil motives. We have sunk into totalitarianism. How could we do this in so short a time. Please please we need to get these horrible control freaks back into their dark shadowy caves where they can plot but not really effect us. Freedom is dead.

I have been hired by the Census Bureau and start training on april 6th. I had to take a test wich consisted of map reading (sorta) and basic math but their was no backround check, that I know of, by the FBI and I did not enter anything into a hand held computer.

By the way, now that I’m in, what are my orders?
