Star power: Palin to keynote big congressional GOP fundraiser

posted at 4:56 pm on March 16, 2009 by Allahpundit

Says NBC, “If there was any doubt whom the Republican Party sees as its biggest fundraiser in the post-Bush era, this news should probably end it.” They needed something strong to help wash the taste of Michael Steele’s blunders out of the base’s mouth, and this is about as strong as it gets.

Looks like Gov. Sarah Palin will continue to have a future as a Republican fundraiser. Palin will deliver the keynote address at the June 8 Senate-House Dinner in Washington, D.C. The annual dinner is a fundraiser for the Republican Party’s congressional re-election efforts.

Here’s a statement from the chairman of the National Republican Senatorial Committee, Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas:

“Governor Palin has quickly emerged as one of the most popular and recognizable faces in the Republican Party, and we are honored to have her deliver the keynote address at the Senate-House dinner. As a proven leader in her home state of Alaska, Gov. Palin represents a breath of fresh air from the business-as-usual crowd in Washington, and is one of our party’s up-and-coming young governors who will play a critical role in our re-building efforts in the years to come. Last fall, she electrified and energized crowds across the country, and we expect she will generate a similar amount of enthusiasm at this spring’s dinner.”

A lot of powerful people will owe her favors come 2012 if the fundraising’s strong. Question: Given her popularity and money potential with grassroots conservatives, how come Palin’s name wasn’t floated for RNC chair last year? Granted, she’s busy running Alaska, but so what? Mel Martinez was busy with the Senate when he became chair in 2007. The answer then was to give him a co-chair who could handle day to day operations while Martinez served as a public face and fundraiser for the Committee. Palin would probably do gangbusters business in the same capacity. I can only assume she was reluctant to consider it this time around because it would look unseemly to divide her attention while Alaska deals with the recession, but if she’s reelected next year and the economy comes back, she’d be a dynamite prospect to succeed Steele in 2010.

Update: Another benefit to being chair, needless to say, is forming relationships with party movers and shakers at the state level, a useful thing to have for someone planning a national run down the road.

I love how Sarah is standing strong and supporting Bristol and Tripp. Many women I know admire Sarah for this.

Oh I love how teen pregnancy is now the far-right’s new ideal. I am so happy we are setting the example that the left should follow. Raise ignorant children who get knocked up.

Poptech on March 16, 2009 at 11:38 PM

First of all, I am not “far right” in my political views and neither is Sarah. No one is saying that teen pregnancy is an “ideal.” It happens sometimes and you have to deal with it.

The Palins are setting a good example of a loving family that supports each other in rough and challenging times. A good family will not abandon or turn from you other during a crisis. I have seen many teen mothers who turn their lives around and go on to live successful, productive lives and do a fine job of raising their children (including in my own family). It is a hard road but not impossible to overcome especially with a good support system like Bristol and Tripp have.

It is easy to be judgmental and throw stones at girls in Bristol’s situation as many people are prone to do but it does nothing to help with the situation.

I hate to admit this but Poptech loathes Sarah Palin as much as I loathe the Messiah.

“I went to Private School but nice try with the slam even if it is dumb as hell.”

Well, you could continue to discredit whatever school you attended by repeatedly spouting your stupidity, or you could, you know, actually address an issue, like a few things I pointed out before:

“Inner-city single parent rates are pushing 80%. Is it that wicked right-wing religious abstinence-only nonsense that’s causing this? Is it the lack of access to abortion clinics?”

Heck, I went to public school most of my life. But still, somehow, I didn’t end up as totally stupid as you are. (I’d blame it on genetics, but I wouldn’t want to insult your parents.)

notropis on March 17, 2009 at 12:19 AM

“We are going to save, invest wisely today and save for the future for when that price of oil isn’t nearing $100 a barrel and maybe the federal largess, the dollars we get from the federal government, are not flowing as freely into our state coffers as perhaps they have been flowing in the past,”

So, when oil prices are nearing $100/bbl, she decides to look ahead to when the prices might drop substantially, and that proves that she’s, what, liberal? stupid?

Actually, she was one of the few people, when the price of oil was spiking, to plan for the fact that it was going to drop again.

Most lefties thought it’d hit $200/bbl and stay up there.

Damn is she stupid.

Check the price of oil today, if you care.

Teen pregnancy is directly related to the intelligence of the teenager. So maybe it is genetic?

Being brainless, I would have thought, would have prevented you from “hurting.”

So, you figure the 84% of moms in Detroit who are single, were all duped by Sarah Palin? Think they are Republicans? Think they all stupidly believed in “abstinence only” education? Think they just couldn’t find an abortion clinic, or afford it, due to Chimpy McHitlerburton’s policies?

Or do you really not give a flying EFF about these folks, as long as you can fling your feces at Palin?

(Don’t answer. I already know.)

If you ask journeymen golfers (not Tiger Woods or Phil Mickelson) you only get maybe 1 or 2 opportunities to grab the brass ring and win a major.

Because Presidential cycles are of a 4 year duration there are fewer chances to compete. I’ve have always believed you have to strike while the iron is hot or the window of opportunity before you may close never to reopen.

technopeasant on March 16, 2009 at 8:08 PM

We don’t need any sacrificial lambs. The presidency only comes around once every four years, and you always take your best shot. At this point, that’s Sarah Palin. By 2012, we may have moved on to someone else, but we sure won’t put up someone we expect to lose.

As for Palin, I think it would be huge mistake on her part to run again as VP, or skip 2012 in hopes of 2016 or 2020. 2012 will be her best shot. If she fails then, we probably move on to someone else. But if she sits it out, I think the public will move on without her in 2016.

That said, I think 2012 will be her year.

Right on cue with the pretend resume and stupid insults.

So I guess Track is also a disappointment? After all, you didn’t say Bristol was a good example of how not to raise a kid, you said the Palins are a good example. So that must apply to all the Palin children. Track, Piper and Trig are all delinquents?

If one pregnant teenage daughter is enough to condemn an entire family, then there are a lot of condemned families in this country.

But we all know that the only reason you’re so exercised about Bristol Palin’s pregnancy is for the excuse to bash Sarah Palin.

Wipe the spittle off your lips and up your meds.

I don’t think they practiced abstinence-only education. Bristol Palin apparently called it “unrealistic.” So, a) she agrees with you, and b) it looks like you’re both wrong.

ThereGoesTheNeighborhood on March 17, 2009 at 1:05 AM

It is enough to condemn them as stupid, especially when the right-wing fanatics are trying to make her out to be some conservative leader. Yeah I agree there are a lot of stupid families in this country.

Poptech on March 17, 2009 at 1:06 AM

Poptech, you completely miss the point we don’t agree with teen pregnancy we applaud her for making the courageous move to have the child instead of killing it in the womb. You don’t know if she used contraception or not and at her age there is a high chance of failure. The only and way to avoid teen pregnancy and disease is through abstinance but passion can over rule even the best of education.

goat on March 17, 2009 at 1:06 AM

“No my mom was intelligent and was taught about birth control. She did not get pregnant until after she graduated college”

And all them folks who wasn’t stupid enough to be ruled by the trailer trash Palins never got pregnant, did they?

Detroit’s unwed pregnancy rate isn’t 84%, is it? LA’s isn’t 78%, is it? Trenton, New Jersey’s, isn’t 89%, is it?

No, the only kid that ever got pregnant out of wedlock was that stupid Palin kid. And that was her mother’s fault, for being a narrow-minded harridan bitch. And her father’s, for being an illiterate snow-machine-driving rube.

Then you’re an ignoramus. Sorry, but that’s what you are.

It’d be like saying that someone who was in college in 1968 didn’t know that Asia was a continent and that Viet Nam, Cambodia and Laos were countries in Southeast Asia.

Even our podunk colleges had demonstrations calling for divestment in Krugerrands and Ray Charles should boycott Sun City and fair trade coffee from Uganda.

But, totally clueless as you are, you’re willing to believe that someone who was pulling down a 3.5-4.0 gpa at a podunk college could be oblivious to the fact that Africa has more than one country.

You obviously have not talked with many college graduates lately. I had a conversation with one a few months back who did not know where San Diego was. It is not hard to believe Sarah did not know Africa was a continent. It doesn’t look could for the “I’m dumb like Sarah” supporters.

Poptech on March 17, 2009 at 1:48 AM

Who runs the universities, liberal extremists that want a dumbed down populace. Your arguments are making less and less sense. Are you getting desperate or something?

goat on March 17, 2009 at 1:53 AM

Let’s see I graduated high school in ’82 about the same time as Palin and in my junior year had to fill out a world map with all countries, major rivers, mountain ranges, major cities, oceans and seas.

“Is Coke better than Pepsi?”

WTF

No, don’t answer. It’d just demonstrate your already well proven stupidity.

Seriously, if you really want to use your brain, stop and think about the facts that:

The highest teen pregnancy rates occur in the cities with the greatest access to abortion clinics.

The highest rates of single parenthood occur in the cities with the highest proportions of Democratic voters.

So, if you want to play your juvenile Palin nonsense, then play it, and when you’re done, be ready to think about why the reality is that all the things the Republicans say are happening and are bad are all happening in places where the Democrats have held sway for most of a half-century.

It’s one thing to be partisan.

It’s another to be stupid.

It’s yet a third to be both.

But to be proudly stupid, partisan and juvenile requires a singular skill.

Poptech, congratulations.

Funny since nothing you have typed is anything a conservative libertarian like me would ever say. I seriously doubt you even know what that means. BTW I am a Romneyite and not a Palintologist. I just don’t like to see kids that make a mistake and then take responsibility for their actions or a good woman like Sarah get trashed by dirtbags that miss the point of the conservative support for them.

Poptech on March 17, 2009 at 2:30 AM

Let’s be straight:

I like Sarah Palin.

She’s done an incredible job of taking on an oil-based kleptocracy, wrestling it from the hands of an entrenched Washinngton cabal, reforming state rules and regulations, and re-negotiating treaties with foriegn nations and domestic energy interests. That ought to be enough to earn her the respect of the reformist crowd.

Unfortunately, she made the mistake of being a Republican woman. That’s only slightly less bad than being a Republican ethnic person (fill in your favorite ethnicity.)

If someone can show me how her daughter’s sex life would affect her ability to be Commander-In-Chief, or Leader of the Free World, or even person throwing out the ceremonial first baseball of the Yankees’ season — please, feel free.

Poptech, take first swing.

Otherwise, stfu, and gtfa.

Alaska also has a substantial reserve fund in case of hard time, I figure that is something a libertarian conservative would like.
