Heart-ache: Steele redecorates RNC office

posted at 9:17 pm on March 16, 2009 by Allahpundit

I confess, I’ve lost the plot on which type of excessive spending during an economic crisis I’m supposed to be mad at and which I’m not. Michael Steele adding a Bowflex machine to his office seems de minimis enough to me as not to be worth commenting on, but not so for Salon. Likewise, The One throwing a St. Paddy’s Day party seems perfectly tolerable, but not so for Drudge. Are there any ground rules for this stuff or is it a simple matter of throwing stones at the other side for not acting appropriately mournful while blue-collar Americans are losing their jobs?

HuffPo has more Steele audio that’s supposedly worth agonizing over, but I have a feeling the reaction to this clip will be partisan.

Haha Allah broke Hot Air!

On Topic: Obama is redecorating the Constitution.

carbon_footprint on March 16, 2009 at 9:21 PM

Let’s see. One is the President of the United States throwing party after party in the White House during a recession he’s helping lengthen. The other is a Republican Party chairman spending private money to decorate his office.

amerpundit on March 16, 2009 at 9:22 PM

Keep the colors neutral so it doesn’t offend the next inhabitant.

sheesh on March 16, 2009 at 9:22 PM

Noted reclusive RINO atheist blogger consumed plutocratic Jack Daniels on his staycation instead of proletarian Early Times. OUTRAGE!

see-dubya on March 16, 2009 at 9:24 PM

Looks like someone redecorated Hot Air.

SoulGlo on March 16, 2009 at 9:25 PM

Is he adding a firepole? Those are cool.

omnipotent on March 16, 2009 at 9:25 PM

Oh boy,I can’t wait for the Liberal screams!

Lets listen in;

I can’t beleive this,the economy is in a crisis,
people are being laid off, people are losing their
homes, and the right are busy redecorating, and further
more……… (Snark!).

I confess, I’ve lost the plot on which type of excessive spending during an economic crisis I’m supposed to be mad at and which I’m not.

And when you add in the good black guy vs. bad black guy subtext, one can go mad.

Weight of Glory on March 16, 2009 at 9:26 PM

Looks like someone redecorated Hot Air.

I did that once. Freaked me right out.

see-dubya on March 16, 2009 at 9:26 PM

So what? Seriously

Defector01 on March 16, 2009 at 9:26 PM

Bowflex machines will appeal to the ‘effeminate dudes/beta males who fall for infomercials’ demographic.

Conservatives use free weights.

Chubbs65 on March 16, 2009 at 9:26 PM

I hope to see a framed picture of Rush in our new office.

Yeah somehow HA missed the posting on the State Dinner that Obama threw for the Governors to lecture them on being frugal with the stimulus money he was handing out.

I’m betting wienies weren’t on the menu but many were sitting at the table.

Texas Gal on March 16, 2009 at 9:28 PM

How about the Super Messiah seems to be throwing a lot of damn parties lately, as well as putting his mug onto the talk show circuit.

How about putting as much effort into filling your cabinet with non tax cheats and concentrating on dealing with the serious problems confronting America, you effin teenage putz POTUS?

Gaia almight, every time you turn around, Ogabe is cocktailing it somewhere. Meanwhile, the rest of us are trying to figure out how to stretch a weakening dollar and worrying about our futures.

Bishop on March 16, 2009 at 9:29 PM

This is part of his outreach to the gay community.

Mark1971 on March 16, 2009 at 9:29 PM

RNC – a private organization however poorly run. President of the US – a public employee.

radiofreevillage on March 16, 2009 at 9:29 PM

I bet Steele wants to see if he can get Mrs. Obama’s biceps; you know he’s jealous!

deidre on March 16, 2009 at 9:31 PM

Did Steele use RNC money to do this ?

William Amos on March 16, 2009 at 9:32 PM

My advice to Michael Steele is to make a pilgrimage to Dick Cheney’s house and learn from the master about how to defend conservativism, run the RNC, and deal with the media and the left.

I would like to just add that I hope that Lynn Cheney is well and will be returning home, soon. She is a fantastic lady and a great conservative voice, too. Steele would do well to spend some time with the Cheneys, soaking in what they do naturally.

progressoverpeace on March 16, 2009 at 9:32 PM

I don’t understand why people would freak out about Steele. It isn’t like the RNC received any bailout money…they probably could use it, though.

deidre on March 16, 2009 at 9:32 PM

Is this like the tanning bed in the Governors mansion outrage? Excuse me while I sit here not being outraged.

portlandon on March 16, 2009 at 9:33 PM

How about the Super Messiah seems to be throwing a lot of damn parties lately

Oh, like this one tomorrow night? Since he will be flying to LA on Wednesday night, to be on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno, the usual shindig will be held on Tuesday night for St. Patrick’s!

carbon_footprint on March 16, 2009 at 9:34 PM

Didn’t Michelle OMama redecorate the White House
with new curtains?

canopfor on March 16, 2009 at 9:34 PM

Do any libs know the difference between private $$$$, political party $$$$ and public $$$$?

Or – do they indeed know the difference but simply have tantrums over most anything Republicans and conservatives do?

That aside – I’m getting quite tired of Steele doing things to call the attention to HIM! He reminds me of the bad-girls of Hollywood who compete for media exposure time be being evil!

Hal-9000 on March 16, 2009 at 9:35 PM

OT: has anyone ever noticed that “But As For Me” trackbacks every post on HotAir? WTH is that?

It's Vintage, Duh on March 16, 2009 at 9:35 PM

Steele’s just using the money the RNC won’t be spending on Collins,Specter & Snow.

portlandon on March 16, 2009 at 9:37 PM

Steele would do well to spend some time with the Cheneys, soaking in what they do naturally.

progressoverpeace on March 16, 2009 at 9:32 PM

Yeah, but I’m thinking that an inpatient rehab stint with Rush and Cheney as 12-step coaches would be good for Michael Steele.

Yes, it frustrates the crap out of me. And it’s just part of the Hot Air post if you go over there. It apparently runs on a script that provides a snippet and link everytime certain blogs post. It looks like it’s run on Wordpress, so it sends a trackback. Then people go over there and there are ads.

This is freaking boring.

Can we go back to talking about what a fat moron Meghan McCain is? Thats more fun.

We should have a day where every single thread on Hot Air is about how fricking fat and stupid Meghan McCain is and how hot and intelligent and cool my babe Laura Ingraham and Ann Coulter are.

Thanks!

The Wall on March 16, 2009 at 9:48 PM

Do any libs know the difference between private $$$$, political party $$$$ and public $$$$?
Hal-9000 on March 16, 2009 at 9:35 PM

Don’t be silly. All the $$$$ belongs to the government; we should be thankful they even allow us to keep some of it.

The money Steele is spending could otherwise be used to fund something for the Greater Good, like an Obama statue or a grant to study the social habits of albino lesbian badgers.

Hollowpoint on March 16, 2009 at 9:49 PM

Can we go back to talking about what a fat moron Meghan McCain is?

The correct term is “horizontally challenged.” Get with the program, Maynard.

Upstater85 on March 16, 2009 at 9:57 PM

Maybe he is just installing a phone, a computer, a FAX machine, and maybe a TV set or two ……………….

………….. apparently the last head of the GOP couldn’t get his head out of his rectum long enough to figure out the basics of what it takes to run an office.

Hey, see-dubya! Long time, no see.

How’s that new job?

IrishEi on March 16, 2009 at 10:01 PM

Michael Steele will be in Anchorage, Alaska to speak at the Lincoln Dinner with Sarah Palin providing the keynote speech.

Would you call this an example of reaching out or sucking up? You decide.

technopeasant on March 16, 2009 at 10:03 PM

It’s truely getting to the point that ALL the wonderful politicans both Demo’s and Rep’s are total fuged up, so when is the world coming to and end, soon I hope.

foxone on March 16, 2009 at 10:08 PM

A Bow flex? For 14 easy payments of $199 we could of had ads running on every station across the country about how the Democrats got us into this economic mess and how we should be voting them the hell out in 2010 or kicking them out sooner.

Vigilante on March 16, 2009 at 10:13 PM

It’s good to have one.

see-dubya on March 16, 2009 at 10:17 PM

He brought in Master P. with gold everywhere.

Steele in da house.

getalife on March 16, 2009 at 10:18 PM

Hmmm…work hard to strengthen and build up the party or redecorate the office?

Road trip to Ikea it is!

SuperCool on March 16, 2009 at 10:19 PM

What is so amusing to me is how these folks just keep walking into it. Stupid is what stupid does and that is for sure for the ones that just go from one goof to the next. A man has just got to know his limitations said Dirty Harry. See you around the unemployment line Michael.

rsl775 on March 16, 2009 at 10:21 PM

see-dubya on March 16, 2009 at 10:17 PM

I hear ya. Corzine’s got his eye on mine.

Maybe I’ll take a course in Interior Design…seems like everyone’s doing their offices over now that the economy is in the tank. Wonder where I can find those $13,000 trash cans?

IrishEi on March 16, 2009 at 10:28 PM

Likewise, The One throwing a St. Paddy’s Day party seems perfectly tolerable, but not so for Drudge.

Depends on if the President is serving $100-per-serving haggis.

Best handle ever!

nazo311 on March 16, 2009 at 11:43 PM

Dumbells, bench, floorpad and mirror – all you need to get a good resistance workout and takes up hardly any space.

Bowflex? Terrible piece of equipment in every way. Really makes me wonder about that guy.

The One throwing a St. Paddy’s Day party

Well at least he’s doing something.

OneGyT on March 16, 2009 at 11:55 PM

Steele didn’t ask for this publicity. And it’s a pretty lame charge, imo, that he spent private money for bringing in a Bowflex. The libs are just sucking us in to nail the guy to the wall. I’ll wait to see how he performs as long as he quits giving the libs MMc-type interviews.

Christian Conservative on March 17, 2009 at 12:30 AM

The libs are just sucking us in to nail the guy to the wall.
Christian Conservative on March 17, 2009 at 12:30 AM

Trust me, the “libs” love steele almost as much as we love sarah palin.

benny shakar on March 17, 2009 at 1:17 AM

If he paid for his own bowflex ok, but I am not giving a cent to anymore demi-gods

I have been burned too many times including giving up food money to support a charity I thought was all volunteer only to find the charity paids its top officer 100K. And then there was the money I was sending a hospital fund to help a poor girl get treatment for a rare cancer, only to find she had died over a year past; I got suspicious at the lack of update letters on her condition

I want to wring the AIG bonuses out of those vultures and if Steele took RNC money for a bow flex he can put any fund raising letters where the sun don’t shine.

If the RNC has been using those screaming election disaster letterheads to get contributions and then uses the bucks for decorating or exercise equipment, they can kiss my royal colonoscopy

Are they all friggin nuts or is there a world conspiracy to use up the common man until he dies a wasted wreck to make room for more Meghan McCains?

No more demi Gods

The One’s Double St. Paddy Parties

Has O’bama the guts to invite Sean Hannity over for a beer?

It was O’bama that instigated intolerance and abuse, and remains O’bama at fault, without a bi-partisan bone in his body yet with all the opportunity of choice.

Who all’s on the guest lists?

maverick muse on March 17, 2009 at 8:23 AM

At least, while Steele is busy with the office redecoration and getting buff, he is not on tv.

myrenovations on March 17, 2009 at 8:30 AM

Remington Steele, he’s just pretending to be the RNC chair, he really wants to play James Bond, but he is under contract for another year. ; ))

Angry Dumbo on March 17, 2009 at 8:33 AM

Nada but Nero Obama

Barack is so out of touch with reality, AS IF the American public isn’t sick to death with his never ending campaign for destruction.

“Obama Fingers” for sale. Obama fingers for consumption. Nazi’s pointed the finger to who got rubbed out and who moved up in the ranks of oppressors.

We’re in stark reality right now.

Per RNC office and public perception: Steele better have bought his own personal equipment or new curtains on his own dime. If he hasn’t the gumption to project consistency between platform and business, then getting the Road to Damascus vision and epiphany is a lost cause, given his Seminary training.

Time’s up. Honeymoons are over. Show and Tell now.

maverick muse on March 17, 2009 at 8:41 AM
