Even Obama supporters worried about White House incompetence
posted at 9:37 am on March 16, 2009 by Ed Morrissey
I guess we can officially say that the honeymoon’s over. The New York Daily News, not exactly a pillar of conservative thought, finds itself wondering aloud about whether Barack Obama and his team have the competence to lead the nation. The whispers have grown into a chorus:
Not long ago, after a string of especially bad days for the Obama administration, a veteran Democratic pol approached me with a pained look on his face and asked, “Do you think they know what they’re doing?”
The question caught me off guard because the man is a well-known Obama supporter. As we talked, I quickly realized his asking suggested his own considerable doubts.
Yes, it’s early, but an eerily familiar feeling is spreading across party lines and seeping into the national conversation. It’s a nagging doubt about the competency of the White House.
Well, what did people expect? For the first time in decades and perhaps ever, America chose a President without executive experience in the public or private sectors, and without military command experience. If people expected smooth performance and cool competence from that kind of resume, then the best that can be said about them is that they indulged in self-delusion on a massive scale.
For the rest of us, this comes as no surprise at all. The failed appointments have managed to be less embarrassing than the ones that “succeeded”, such as Tim Geithner and Vivek Kundra. The administration keeps promising plans that never get delivered, and Obama all but abdicated to Nancy Pelosi during the Porkulus debacle. And that doesn’t even begin to cover Obama’s embarrassing performance during Gordon Brown’s visit, and Hillary Clinton’s shameful “I don’t understand multiparty democracy” tour at the EU.
Obama is in over his head, and so are his closest aides, such as Geithner, Hillary, and the entire team. The best we can hope is that on-the-job training can work quickly.
Update: Worse than Bush? Kevin McCullough makes that argument in his weekly column.

Why, so they can more effectively ruin the country?
The best that we can hope for is that the Obama Administration crumbles into irrelevancy quickly.
Perhaps Obama needs to spend more time with his family. Biden needs to spend more time on his hair plugs. Pelosi needs to spend more time with her jewelry. Reid needs to spend more time with the other Gambino Capos.

Now I wonder when incompetence of the MSM will being to play out in the public forum. At some point – some major player in the media is going to have break from the pack and admit to their complete lack of scrutiny on Obama.
Maybe – maybe not. The MSM has so much invested in this administration – it’s hard to know when or if they will break from it.

Maybe yes, maybe no. Considering that Obama wants to turn this country into a state dominated by an enormous government, emphasizing “economic rights” (while ignoring the actual rights in the Constitution), incompetence may be our friend.
Of course, that means in foreign policy and other areas, O will lurch from one disaster to another, which will pose certain problems.

My concern is that if we focus on competence, we lose focus on his radical plans for re-making America.
I’m kind of glad Obama is incompetent, because he’s already gotten through an outlandish stimulus package and a pork ladden omnibus bill and laid the groundwork for national healthcare.
If her were competent, I would be calling Rahm Emanuel today to set up am appointment with my government mandated primary care physician.

anniekc on March 16, 2009 at 9:45 AM
Or, we can hope the American people are at least smart enough to learn this lesson realy, really well, and not repeant it in iether the midterms of 2010 or the next big event in 2012. The bottom line is that if you ignore everthing else and elect a President based on the color of his skin because you think it is “their turn”, you’ll end up with a President with the appropriate skin color who may or may not have anything else at all going for him. Until America comes to tersm with the fact that this is exactly what heppened in 2008, we can’t bet on anything.
MikeA on March 16, 2009 at 9:46 AM
What the hell did these glassy-eyed Ogabe supporters expect by electing a guy for his skin color?
Ogabe is more interested in getting invited to all the best parties, campaigning for homecoming king and writing “Barack ♥ Michelle” on his school folder. He’s a teenager with pretensions to superior judgment based on nothing more than his chairmanship of the school yearbook committee.

What’s to worry about?
The goal of the
communistdemocrat party is to weaken the US, exponentially expand government control and make as many people beholden to government as possible. Incompetence in a president fits in perfectly.darwin on March 16, 2009 at 9:46 AM
The problem, though, is that the Republicans have been completely unable to mobilize effective opposition to any of Obama’s ideas. Obama is just making so many obvious mistakes that the media is having a harder and harder time keeping the lid on it.
Obama can still do a lot of damage to us. Make no mistake: if he gets Card Check, socialist health care, mass amnesty, or a serious bank or industrial nationalization under his belt, the GOP is done, incompetence or not. Once people become dependent on Government, they will always choose liberals.

And a bud from the flight line who’s black is already using worse language about him than I even would.
I would think even if I were a liberal that this is actually necessary if we want any level of performance out of this administration at all. They don’t get better by saying, “Oh Tim knows what he’s doing and oh look the DOW just jumped a little.” If you tell them they’re great when they’re screwing the pooch, all you ever get is puppies.

Yes, he’s incompetent. But he also has the MSM behind him and they’ve invested a lot. The media played more of a role in electing this rube than in any previous election. So really, to them, he is too big to fail. They’ll use the same strategy to keep him in office as they used getting him into it. They’ll pound us with his nuance, his power of personality and how he inspires the masses by virtue of maintaining a pulse.

Jabba The Cat on March 16, 2009 at 9:58 AM
I remember when any “anonymous Republican source” used to criticize Bush was to be automatically discounted because the MSM was purposefully trying to torpedo the Bush Administration. What happened to conservative skepticism of MSM reporting? Oh wait, that wasn’t skepticism of the media, it was a strategic way of dismissing criticism without having to deal with the substance of it. Well done, but you may have wanted to wait more than 10 seconds before completely reversing yourselves.
Also? One Democratic supporter does not the entire DNC make. I think it’s cool if conservatives need to take comfort where they can. The Administation’s appointment process hasn’t been perfect, but every new Administration has these issues, they just rarely are under as close a microscope due to these unique times.
What concerns me is this blogs failure to even keep up with the news of the day. Obama’s unveiling a pro-small business plan today, chances hot air will cover it? Zero. What’s the conservative reaction to AIG’s bonus-bonanza? The GOP’s total lack of any alternative budget. Trolling for every instance of a Democrat who doesn’t support Obama is redundant. Even Obama’s highest poll numebrs never showed 100% Democratic support. Therefore one Democrat not supporting Obama isn’t a reflection of anything new, there’s always been at least one.

Now we’ve got to decide whether the incompetence is good if it keeps a fascist-lite program from being implemented here in the US, or whether we need some competence to get the economy going again and terrorists away from our shores.

His tactics are incompetent.
Words. Just words.

Well, that does not appear to be Obama’s case. He’s grasping at straw words he already condemned. THAT is pathetic, proving his lack of substance.
Obama converts the citizens’ war on terror into a war against the citizens. Words don’t feed the hungry. And hunger clarifies vision. Why else do the righteous fast by tradition when seeking illumination?
Morons need not deny the inevitable results of Socialism. Obama displays the disturbing disdain for humanity. Much is made of the obvious POVERTY that Socialism coerces. Just don’t ignore the bloated excesses of that party’s leadership’s extravagance.
Words. Just words. When the tax man comes and the citizens fork over everything to bloat Obama’s cruel beast, the ignorant will feel the pangs and suffer the cost of empty word hunger. Malnutrition is not a pretty sight at reality check.

Expose those who are saying one thing and voting for another. In my home state of Montana, both Tester & Baucus are voting in lock step with Obama, holding the party line. Grassroots efforts need to organized to expose the voting records of these two Senators so that the people of Montana will not be fooled by the lies that will surely come down the road. Grassroots efforts in every state are a big factor if we are to rid the country of these people starting in 2010.

True, and if we can find contact between the administration and this group we got their ass! Given the way they bumble so far it shouldn’t be hard.

Hahahahaha….you never cease to amuse. Saying that is like saying the hole in the Titanic was disappointing.

I noted this week that more than one person said, “He’s a bright guy, but he doesn’t really know what he’s doing with the economy.”
People were scared to even suggest he was too inexperienced in the election. I presume that the race bill has been paid “in full” in many people’s minds now.
Now, he gets to be real and to be criticized. He should be. There’s signs that he’s set up a phony picture. He misguaged American voters in doing so.
We see through it.

The first black president, the first mentally handicapped person to be Speaker of the House and a cadaver brought back to life running the Senate. This is indeed change that we can believe in.

The world watches as Barry and The Crew run around in circles. It won’t be long before some wiseguy decides to stick out his foot.

Ha, that’s rich coming from a donk. If you had been paying attention to the news, you would have noticed that all it takes is one immoral republican to brand the entire party as evil. The donks pick out there single target, then the MSM jumps on board making every attempt to destroy the guilty party which more often than not leads to a resignation. Not so with donks, the MSM doesn’t go after their bad seeds, conversely they don’t report on their misdeeds at all.
Remember what they did to Foley, and how they used him to portray republicans as evil hypocrites. And George Allen with his mscscs moment. The lefties ALWAYS pick a mark, bring him down and then go on with their mantra about how the whole republican party is corrrupt as a result of a few misguided politicians.
Republicans get a week long diatribe in the press, while the donks receive no criticism at all, or worse yet …. they are praised.
