Quotes of the day

“I have been teased about my weight and body figure since I was in middle school, and I decided a very long time ago to embrace what God gave me and live my life positively, attempting to set an example for other girls who may suffer with body image issues. I have nothing to hide: I am a size eight and fluctuated up to a size ten during the campaign. It’s ridiculous to even have this conversation because I am not overweight in the least and have a natural body weight…
The question remains: Why, after all this time and all the progress feminists have made, is weight still such an issue? And, in Laura’s case, why in the world would a woman raise it? Today, taking shots at a woman’s weight has become one of the last frontiers in socially accepted prejudice.”

This political brat came out of no where, riding her daddy’s coattail, and in order to make a name for herself chose to attack – a conservative.
I guess it runs in the DNA.
Virginia Shanahan on March 15, 2009 at 10:03 AM
What I fail to see is how a size 8 is fat anyway. When I was fitness training I could squeeze into an 8 but was at n 9/10 And the only reason I’m can squeeeeze into a 6/7 but at an 8 now is because after the birth of my beautiful, joy of my life, everything in the world to me daughter, my butt and boobs properly deflated and I can’t see to get them back.
In my circles a size 8 is borderline anorexic and people want to stuff some collard greens cooked in fatback down your throat.
Magnus on March 15, 2009 at 10:05 AM
I misunderstood?
McShamnesty’s daughters remarks = conversation could be about the love of Jesus Christ and how beautiful the world is
LI = Mother in law
It was your comparison.
csdeven on March 15, 2009 at 10:07 AM
You simply do not understand the context of LI’s comment. See this post for a precise explanation…..
And this one for the concise explanation…..
csdeven on March 15, 2009 at 10:11 AM
My apologies for interpreting your responses as either male or Republican.
I should have realized that your dismissal of all Conservative voices and your whining about how we’re suppose to above this type of immaturity as more likely identified you as a troll or a liberal.
katiejane on March 15, 2009 at 10:11 AM
Not many believe she is an 8. The thinking is that she buys from high end boutiques where a 14 is repackaged as an 8 to make the snobbish patron believe she isn’t a 14. And because she travels in the circle of folks who want to be on “The Real World”, she will never find out that in the REAL WORLD that WE live in, she is a robust 14. AT LEAST.
csdeven on March 15, 2009 at 10:14 AM
I still don’t see where you got Meghan McCain= Messiah for the Republican party
Magnus on March 15, 2009 at 10:17 AM
Nice work Allah, you got 500 post out of this one. Take a bow!
Kjeil on March 15, 2009 at 10:18 AM
You act just like a Liberal. You still have nothing intelligent or even remotely substantial to say but insult someone personally because you don’t like their views.
That reflects on you and you conservatism more than it reflects on my assumed liberalism.
Magnus on March 15, 2009 at 10:20 AM
I guess I don’t get why you compared the two. McShamnesty’s daughter wasn’t having a positive conversation. She was shilling for RINO’s complete takeover of the republican party.
csdeven on March 15, 2009 at 10:27 AM
right back at you.
I’d make a reference to your side of the political spectrum but you say you’re not a Republican, you’re clearly not a Conservative and you deny being a liberal. Guess that makes you an Independent who thinks they should be the decider of acceptable Republican discourse/opinion.
katiejane on March 15, 2009 at 10:27 AM
I think that she’s an apologist, and a traitor to Conservatives.
That said, I don’t think she’s fat or unattractive. I mean, she could probably hold her own in a brawl, but she’s not what I would call “Fat”.
leetpriest on March 15, 2009 at 10:36 AM
Listen, this is not really something to get into with you at this.
I’m sorry your offended that someone has a different view of things than you and you need to insult them. But that is reality. People are not going to agree with you, Ann Coulter, or Laura Ingraham all the time. I don’t believe Conservatives are a monolithic group either. Proof of that is this very site. But if you do and act in the same fashion of those you complain about the result is hypocrisy. If you disagree with my take on what I had to say give me a response such as csdeven did. This person is saying I’m misinterpreting the context of LI remarks, which could be true.
I can’t decide how you need to think. It is my right to make an observation.
Magnus on March 15, 2009 at 10:37 AM
My wonderful woman is a 7 and looking at the video of valley girl last week she stated there is no way in hell Mcliberal is an 8.
Not even close.
We have a winner! ding-ding-ding!
gdonovan on March 15, 2009 at 10:39 AM
Probably.
Overall I think she is a typical 24 year old that has no professional experience. Especially one that is extremely wealthy and was not forced into the jungle that is the real world. And I wouldn’t derided her on how she articulates her points or presents her views. For most young adults that comes with age, experience and refinement. I was a different person at 23 than I am now at 29 and I still have some changing to do. I think whatever side she picks she will be able to make herself into a political pundit(possibley a good one, possibley not) and possible the venture would lead into other things.
Magnus on March 15, 2009 at 10:43 AM
I love Laura, and her show back when they used to broadcast it in San Antonio. But teasing Meghan about her weight, not smart. Thats what liberals do, not conservatives.
Besides, Meghan’s curves make her look hot, shes a hottie.
But I do get why Laura lobs missiles at her for appearing on Liberal shows and legitimizing their arguments against the party and the movement.
bombos on March 15, 2009 at 10:45 AM
Oh, can it! We are offended because you were offensive. People are responding to your post where you were an obnoxious scold. Nothing you said was constructive criticism of anything. Now you are whining because people won’t kiss your a$$.
We also have the right to make observations about Fatty McCain and you.
Blake on March 15, 2009 at 10:50 AM
Gross insults on a personal level are just the fodder of talk show hosts these days. It’s a kind of junior high gutter humor that was lodged against Palin constantly, against Hillary, and now Meghan. It’s a favorite way to skewer women in public.
Sexism is alive and well.
AnninCA on March 15, 2009 at 10:58 AM
I forgot…..armgate.
It’s not liberal or conservatives…..it’s all women.
Laura could impress me more if she started to have fun with poking at various male politicos….hair pieces, paunch, etc.
AnninCA on March 15, 2009 at 11:00 AM
It seems that way. First it was Hillary and then Palin, Palin’s daughter, and now Meghan. I think the easiest and most entertaining way people find to discredit a woman is to attack the things that make her such. Her looks, her sexuality, her ability to mother, and her emotions.
Magnus on March 15, 2009 at 11:05 AM

Courtesy CNN Political Ticker
If Meghan wants to be a Political Pundit and be a public figure on tv, (i.e., 15 minutes of fame) she is going to have to be able to take as well as give criticism.
kingsjester on March 15, 2009 at 11:07 AM
“why in the world would a woman raise it”
Because Meghan has injected herself into the political discussion and in a way that is insulting to many conservatives. Since Laura Ingram is human, she took offense and reacted…probably not in the most mature way….but why is it that conservatives have to be perfect 100% of the time when every lunatic liberal gets a free-pass to say any outragesous thing in the world.

kingsjester on March 15, 2009 at 11:29 AM
But we’re so hateful for talking about her weight? Why isn’t it hilarious?
katiejane on March 15, 2009 at 11:29 AM
Yup, Michelle totally nails her. She exposes Meghan’s naivete or hypocrisy or both. This MTV shrillness is Hollywood in full propaganda mode.

She does OK, but is not a true conservative. Her father is not either and it’s understandably that she is mimicking her pop. Nobody cares about her weight but weirdo liberal’s who are (ugly in the face) jealous of her.
tx2654 on March 15, 2009 at 12:48 PM
This whole thing is silly. Meghan McCain is a useless twit – talk about that. She’s not fat, and calling her fat is a really weak tactic. It’s weak when the left does it to Rush, and it’s weak here. With the cornucopia of easy and legit things to hammer Princess Maverick on, why go for the cheap (and irrelevant) weight crack?

During the campaign, I really liked Meghan’s blog. The behind the scenes photos were cool and she had a really great blog entry giving moral support to Bristol Palin in a truly classy way.
But post-campaign version of Meghan is far too attention seeking. I don’t buy a word she writes or says because she is trying to gain some sort of footing in the pundit class, which is odd because her campaign blog was not all that political. It was like Tipper Gore’s campaign photos. Like a family album.
She didn’t seem to take any political stance before, other than obviously supporting her dad.
myrenovations on March 15, 2009 at 1:48 PM
Here’s the obvious. Her weight has virtually nothing to do with her opinions about politics.
Sorry, but people don’t get fat or skinny based on their poliical opinions.
That’s why we have the term, “low blow.”
To attack someone for being pudgy and then extrapolating that to suggest they have no right to their opinions, because……what?
Eating makes you stupid?
I thought Laura’s wipe at her just reinforced the notion that conservative talk show people are obviously into unfair and nasty attacks.
Whatever.
So are the liberals.

Where is the obligatory post on dick cheney still not man enough to admit anything is his fault?
getalife on March 15, 2009 at 2:09 PM
Why is her weight an issue in this day and age?
I think the only premise would be “get your own life under control before you appoint yourself a critic”. Also she’s unrealistically denying or fibbing about her weight instead of saying the only proper thing she can to personal remarks, which is to laugh at them as ridiculously inappropriate and irrelevant to anything she has to say on political matters.
That means she’s not so wise in the ways of the world as she would wish us to believe.
Gorgeous girl, but overweight. That’s the truth, do what you will with it.

George Schultz, a man who obviously liked a good steak or three.
Henry Kissinger, a big fan of the saurbrauten.
Whittaker Chambers, a man who clearly ate all the pies.
The list could go on and on, but I think you get the point, namely that when you can demonstrate the mental acuity of these giants of conservatism, then you can think about drawing a correlation between overeating and lack of mental acuity.
Until then, jam it pizza face.

What do they mean by hispanic focused?
I live in an area that is primarily black with a very large population of Orthdox Jews.
Our Wal-Mart seems rather focused on those factors in that the home decor section caters to a clearly black decorating style and the food section has a kosher area that would rival anything outside of Israel. Yeah, they still carry Glad trash bags and such, but there is an ethinic and racial focus to the store. Which doesn’t bother me even though I am neither black nor Jewish.
Just seems like smart marketing.

Sadly, this is a point all too lost on “alleged” conservatives; that when we grant a GOP president powers, whether he does or does not misuse them, those powers stick around even after the Dems take over.
Even if we grant that nobody’s civil liberties were trampled by the USA PATRIOT Act, or by warrentless wiretaps, or by secret courts, do we really trust Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, Joe Biden and Eric Holder with those same powers? I know I sure as hell don’t.

Whoa there!! Are you trying to say that Meghan McCain should be silenced because she is hurting the conservative cause, but Ann Coulter and Laura Ingraham should be encouraged because they are helping?
Look, I disagree with a substantial amount of what Meghan McCain has written. Largely, I chalk it up to her being young, and just not having seen enough of the world to know any better. But, like a good conservative, I believe the answer to incorrect speech is argument and rebuttal, not less speech. That concept is a tool of the Left, and one of their more odious ones.
And let us be clear. When Ann Coulter goes around calling her opposition faggot, or Laura Ingraham calls her opposition fat, it is a political reality that they are doing great damage to the conservative cause. I like both of them (Ann especially, for her impecable taste in live music), but to defend this type of drivel simply because we like them as conservatives, IMHO, does a great disservice to our movement.
The Left cannot defeat us on ideas, so they must defeat us on personalities. To put forward people as our champions who put the necessary weapons into the hands of the Left is plainly stupid and counterproductive.

They may well be catering to the illegal alien population.
But they are also catering to a population of 20 million people who are in this country legally, and in some cases, can trace their lineage in this country back farther than either you or I (unless you are descended from aborigines).
This is no different than if they opened stores in Chinatown that catered to the tastes and culture of Chinese people. Hispanics are part of this country, have been for hundreds of years, and will continue to be.
And frankly, to deliberately comingle them with illegals is the type of xenophobia that conservatives should be ashamed to be associated with. I know I am.

Good. Speaking English is a good thing in the US. And the fact is that the vast majority of descendants of Mexican immigrants speak English within two generations of coming here. Same as descendants of Italians, Chinese, Vietnamese, and other ethnic groups. Some don’t, but that’s no reason to punish those who are on a glide path towards assimilation.
I am of English and Irish descent, so my ancestors never faced such a problem, at least as far as the language barrier went. But a lot of friends of mine (mostly Italian) have grandparents that faced the same kind of bigoted statements. Never mind that their children and grandchildren learned English. They had xenophobes telling them to go the hell home, because they talked funny. This country would look a lot different if the bigots had more sway. Fortunately, they didn’t, and while I’m alive and American, I will work to make sure they don’t.
While I generally agree with you, I think the point is debatable, depending on which illegal alien you are talking about; i.e., not all illegals are the same.
But Hispanics, illegal or otherwise, who are making purchases at Wal-Mart, hardly strike me as taking food from the mouth of citizens. Instead, such activity sounds like a contribution to our economy.
Engaging in serious discussion of serious topics on these boards is my intellectual duty.
Making fun of trolls… now that is a joy.

So, my husband having to leave our house everyday with a gun to go to work is just for fun, right? We don’t enforce our laws. If someone does not respect the boundries of our country and comes over, no big deal, huh?
I don’t know where you live, but where I live, the United States, the ER are overrun by illegal aliens needing to deliver their children, get medication for the sniffles, and none of it is paid back, causing the closing of many medical facilities.
The simple fact that we are giving subsidized housing, food stamps, dental care, and schooling to people that should not even be in our country is sick. The fact that you do not understand this is even sicker.
Enjoy your needling of the trolls, galt. I figure someone with your name would understand…

This is a good sign, Meghan McCain is so silly that we have stopped discussing her and have moved on to much better topics.

+100.
Her daddy has led us here.

Not just him though. Reagan (G_d rest his soul) signed an amensty bill. Kennedy has always pushed for amnesty. Democrats need illegal immigration for their census numbers and for votes. Some Republicans need it for Big Business. There is much blame to go around.

Well, Reagan is no longer with us and Kennedy will soon follow. At least Reagan admitted it was a mistake. I understand that McCain is not the only one, but we are talking about his idiot daughter and her ideology….same as her dad’s crappy logic.
