Pelosi: I’m not partisan

Partisan, Nancy Pelosi wonders? How can anyone think that the Speaker of the House is partisan? Pelosi scoffs at the notion that she acts in a partisan manner in an interview with Charlie Rose, picked up by The Hill:
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) is denying Republican claims that she is partisan, saying she has been open to GOP ideas.
In an interview with Charlie Rose on Friday, Pelosi was asked what is the most unfair and misleading impression of her. Pelosi initially said she doesn’t think about it, but when pressed, the Speaker took on her Republican critics.
“There seems to — some people think there seems to be a market for saying that I am very partisan, and that I don’t give the Republicans their opportunity. That simply is not true. They know in this recovery package that we had, we ask them what they wanted. They wanted certain things in there.”
Later in the same interview, though, Pelosi demonstrates her partisanship on the question of Iraq. Rose asks her about the Obama plan on keeping troop levels around the 50,000 mark in Iraq, and she responds:
While acknowledging the Obama administration has used the 50,000 figure, Pelosi said she is “hoping it’s closer to 35 [thousand]. And what I have said is the good news is the war is ending. Troops are leaving Iraq.”
In an interview with MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow late last month – before Obama had officially announced the 50,000 figure — Pelosi said 15,000 or 20,000 troops would be a more prudent figure.
What changed in the last couple of weeks that created a need in Pelosi’s judgment for an additional 20,000 troops in Iraq? Her party leader, Barack Obama, announced his own targets for troop levels. When Republican George Bush was President, Pelosi had an even more limited view of the role of American troops in Iraq. WRAL reports this from November 2007, after it became apparent that the surge strategy was working:
Pelosi said House Democrats hope to get a proposal to Bush before Thanksgiving to withdraw combat troops by the end of 2008. After that date, war funding would pay only for embassy protection, targeted counterterrorism efforts and limited training of Iraqi forces.
What changed? The party holding the White House. But oh, no, Pelosi is not partisan.
Maybe that’s just on war policy. What about domestic policy? Is Pelosi more amenable to bipartisan processes? Not really:
Obama faced an early test last week, when, in the midst of the debate over economic stimulus, Democrats worked to shut Republicans out of the policy process, then behaved boorishly when Republicans complained.
Democratic leaders responded with the political equivalent of a sack dance in football. “If it’s passed with 63 votes or 73 votes, history won’t remember it,” said Senator Richard Durbin, Democrat of Illinois.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi added to the mood by saying, “Yes, we wrote the bill. Yes, we won the election.”
But don’t call her a partisan.

The only bipartisanship Washington Democrats have shown with Republicans is their trying to split the Republicans into two parts via getting their moderate and conservative wings to fight each other over a phony issue of Rush’s leadership of the party. The Washington Dems are not willing to concede that citizens who elect republicans should have any influence on their governance and thus do not hold hearings where R’s can speak, don’t allow amendments to the bills they draw up all by themselves and don’t allow time for R’s to read bills and show their flaws before forcing votes.

I agree. We have people in D.C. who ought to be home and going through therapy.
You are on a roll, jeanie.
True and it indicates why it is so terrible for them to have so much power.
They have little to no understanding of flyover country and what many, many Americans are like. They’ve never been a part of an ordinary middle-class existence.

This graph from the California Legislative Analyst’s Office details how tax hikes will continue for two more years if Prop 1A is passed.
One Percent Sales Tax Increase. The budget package includes a one-cent increase in the state’s SUT (sales and use tax).
Personal Income Rate Increase. A 0.25 percentage point increase in the PIT rate is the second major tax increase.
Car Tax Increase. The Legislature increased the car tax (VLF) from 0.65 percent to 1.15 percent as part of the budget package.
Reduction in the Dependent Credit. The final tax increase is a reduction in the dependent credit.

I don’t think so. I think you’re being too generous. I don’t think there’s an ounce of criticism for anyone except Ed and the GOP in his comment. He’s writing that this blog post is stupid because the Republicans are partisan, too, thus kind of completely missing the point.
Or maybe I’m not being generous enough?

Yep and Ted Kennedy has never had a drink in his life. Denial of the obvious is the first stage of lunacy. Peloser is a compulsive liar and a disgrace that someone of her complete lack of integrity should even be in the Congress much less a leadership positiion. “Glory Hole” Peloser wouldn’t tell the truth at gun point.

I used to live in Kalifornia and referred to Diane Feinstein as dumb, Barbara Boxer as dumber and Nancy Pelosi as dumbest. I was always embarresed that they represented me as a resident of Kalifornia and as a woman.
The longer I live, the more I understand why it took so long for women to have the right to vote. Most of their reasoning is derived from emotion and feelings.
The only two women politicians I respect are: Golda Meir and Margaret Thatcher. They were two incredible women and it will be a long time before we see the likes of them in politics.

“The most alarming single danger to the American political system lies in the fact that an identifiable team of Fabian operators is bent on controlling both our major political parties(under the sanction of such fatuous and unreasoned slogans as “national unity,” “middle-of-the-road,” “progressivism,” and “bipartisanship.”) Clever intriguers are reshaping both parties in the image of Babbitt, gone Social-Democrat. When and where this political issue arises, we are, without reservations, on the side of the traditional two-party system that fights its feuds in public and honestly; and we shall advocate the restoration of the two-party system at all costs.”

I recall a telephone conversation I had with this C*NTS staffer during the days that she had run off to the ME to talk to leaders there (remember the scarf pictures?) We were all wondering if she was in violation of the Logan act. When I asked her staffer why PELOSI was taking this on herself, she replied that if Bush wasn’t going to do it, then Pelosi would. Clearly this staffer was a-okay with violating the Logan Act.
I now record every conversation I have with politicians staffers. I would have loved to hang that soundbite around Pelosi’s neck for the rest of her days.

Folks, whatever the libs say, no matter how dishonest becomes the truth when the media doesn’t follow up on their nonsensical “nonpartisan” claims with probing questions about her clearly partisan quotes and behavior. Perception becomes reality. For example, Pelosi, Reid, Frank all have higher approval polls numbers than John Boehner!? The Media is shameless and despicable in their liberal propaganda campaign.

I was thinking the other night that George Washington turned down the monarchy offered him after British defeat, saying that is exactly what the Colonies just threw off their backs. Then I thought if Obama or Pelosi were in the same position, neither would refuse a crown and scepter.
I only hope she’s at home when the San Andreas opens up. Last time was 1906 and they’re usually good for every hundred years. 2009 and she’s on borrowed time. If everything west of the fault slid into the sea, half the Democrat/Socialist/Communist power would drown. One can only hope for the best…….

Nancy Pelosi on the other hand is a socialist. This implies convictions. You know she will support the Democrats because you now where she stands ideologically. Not the other way around.
