Bin Laden: Conquer Jordan after Iraq, or something

posted at 12:30 pm on March 14, 2009 by Ed Morrissey

Osama bin Laden may still be alive, but he’s living in another world.  Adolf Hitler spent his final days moving phantom armies around a map in his bunker.  Likewise, bin Laden has sent a message to his nearly nonexistent terrorist bands in western Iraq to finish up their conquest, because he has another mission for them:

Bin Laden called on faithful Muslims to support militants in Iraq and said that country should be used as a departure point for attacks on Israel. He suggested fighters use a route from Iraq through Jordan and into the West Bank.

He said supporting fighters in Iraq was a “rare and precious chance” for ultimately taking control of Jerusalem. After taking control of Iraq, he said, fighters should then head to neighboring Jordan.

“Jordan … is the best and widest front, and from Jordan the second launching will be toward the West Bank and the borders will be forcibly opened,” he said.

Right now, those conquering forces have found themselves cornered in Mosul.  They’re not wiped out yet, and they still cause damage, but they’re on the endangered-species list.  Iraqis not only have rejected the bloodthirsty lunatics of AQI, they have rejected religious extremism in politics as a whole.  Islamist parties suffered across-the-board setbacks in provincial elections, and even the Dawa party has now de-emphasized its Islamic roots in favor of a more secular approach.

The choice of Jordan as the next “conquest” for nonexistent AQI forces is only a mild surprise.  I’d have expected Egypt, Ayman al-Zawahiri’s country of origin and a nation where the Muslim Brotherhood has a much stronger presence.  Jordan has a somewhat closer relationship with Israel, though, and borders western Iraq.   If Osama actually did have an army, that would make at least some logistical sense.

Otherwise, bin Laden’s message was mostly unremarkable.  He doesn’t appear to have much to say about the United States in this missive, which seems a little surprising, but the entire message may not have been released yet.  He also calls the deaths of 1300 Palestinians in Gaza, in a conflict they provoked with Israel, a “holocaust”, attempting to hijack a little of Israel’s moral authority on genocides.  What, then, does he consider the murder of 3,000 civilians in New York and Washington DC?  Oh, wait, I forgot … it’s only a holocaust if no infidels get killed.

Ed, did you read the Spectator article yesterday that says OBL is dead and AQ is irrelevant? I believe OBL has long been dead or we would have seen him a lot more of his missives on live video tape.

Delusional rant or message within a message?

I still believe this jackal is dead. There is no reasonable explaination for not posting a 2004 like video. If he is alive then that video didn’t lead to any strikes that seperated his head from his body so why not stand up and give the world a definative answer and his followers a boost?

Nah….he is dead.

Egypt’s security forces are far too strong for any sort of AQ take over. That had been part of Al Zawahri’s plans, but he gave them up not long after hooking up with bin Laden.

Jordan has always seemed sort of squishy, though a friend of the US. If Jordan were to start having to deal with AQ in its own territory, it could hurt US relations.

I don’t care if bin Laden is dead as long as we know that Al Zawahiri is alive. He was always the more ruthless one and the one with the brains. bin Laden was dangerous, but he lived in a fantasy world ever since the Soviets were driven from Afghanistan.

That’s because Osama is in Pakistan which is serving him nicely. He apparently gave up on Afghanistan since all he talks about is Iraq and Israel.

That would also make sense if bin Laden is dead, as Al Zawahiri never cared much for Afghanistan being central to the AQ cause.

DUBAI (Reuters) – Al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden accused moderate Arab leaders of plotting with the West against Muslims and urged his followers to prepare for jihad (holy war), in a recording aired by Al Jazeera television.

“It is clear that some Arab leaders have plotted with the Zionist-crusader coalition against our (Muslim) people, these (Arab countries) the United States calls the moderate states,” bin Laden said, without naming any of the leaders.

There ya go Democrats; Obama promised to kill OBL within his first 100 days… Go get him Dems, show us how it was supposed to be done.

I wouldn’t say AQ is irrelevant at all. Of course they’ve been dealt a massive blow in Iraq. However, they’ve since set up camp in the Maghreb after absorbing the Salafist Group for Prayer and Combat. Same with Indochina with al-Qa’eda and Abu Sayyaf and Jemmah alIslamiyya.

The difference between Conservatives and liberals.

Conservatives will rejoice when he is either killed and it’s made known that he has been dead for some time. The reason they will rejoice is because a very evil enemy of the United States is dead.

liberals would only be happy if UBL is killed when they are in power. They would be happy because UBL never meant anything to them except political points.

An old fighter pilot friend down in Ft. Walton told me that his Vietnam era co-pilot (back seat F-4D), a Predator test pilot in 2001, mentioned a missile strike in February 2002 had killed who many believed was UBL and a dozen or so of his party. A blizzard had set in immediately after the strike. Days later when our forces arrived at the site, not much was found, clothing, wreckage etc. No bodies. President Bush, being vilified even then by the socialist democraps and their allies in the media was unwilling to claim the kill without the body. I have seen the video of the strike and believe UBL died that day.

You mistake why so many people want Obama to fail by personalizing the failure, as the left did with Bush.

What I and so many clearly want to fail are his policies. I want his policies concerning global warming–cap and trade, nationalized health care, trade policies, education solutions, tax policy, card check to name a few, to fail.

Among other things I hope he continues to be a huge success with his wife and children, I hope he sheds any hate he might have picked up from the Rev Wright and that he comes to realize, without incidence, that Islam is not the religion of peace.

The key difference between myself and so many on the left, perhaps even yourself, is personal hatred. The left hated Bush, the person.

Actually, Bush had the 90% job approval immediately after 9/11. In my universe, that is in September. It had already started going down by early October of ’01.

In fact, it wasn’t until December of 2001 that he promised to get bin Laden. By then his numbers continued to decline and continued to do so after he made the statement.

But all of that is irrelevant, anyway, as bin Laden hasn’t been seen alive since Tora Bora in that same year. He hasn’t been able to do the relatively simple task of making a video while holding up a current newspaper headline to prove that he’s not worm food.

If Ozzie makes a video holding up a newspaper that says “O’bama Beats McCain”, then I will believe he’s alive.

The OBL- Zawahiri group used to have some clout but not so much anymore. Those other groups just use the name for its infamous connotations. The real terror groups to be concerned with do have state sponsors like Hezbollah, Hamas and the Taliban. AQ and its so called affilliated groups are more a ragtag bunch of thugs than an organized militia. AQ is not entirely irrellevant but they are not the center of the terror universe as they would like us to believe, that honor lies with the mad mullahs of Iran and to lesser extent the enabling segments of Paks intelligence services that help the Taliban.

I know that is the con talking point but is there any truth with reality in that assertion?

Wrong. The poll numbers show there was no unity and cons wanted the President to fail.

I dont want Obama to fail because of who he is. I just know that he will fail because his policies are inept.

If Obama wants me to unite with him then he would be more acceptible to my positions. Give respect to get respect.

Just saw his message on CNN.

He says Israel committed a holocaust in Gaza.

Like with your assertions, there is no truth with reality in with that one too.

Bin laden is of little consequence, Obama is doing a good enough job of ruining the U.S. economy.

6 Million Jews died in the Holocost. How many Palistinians died because their terrorist leaders deceided to lauch missiles at Israel provoking a counterstrike ?

Again your “Truth” is very jaded and sinister.

William Amos on March 14, 2009 at 5:08 PM

They want his policies to fail. Going forward that will be the majority position despite all the freebies he’s using to bribe the ignorant.

So holocaust is now synonymous with self defense?

I appologize for misreading your words. You were asserting that Obama was lying when he said that Gaza was a “Holocost”.

Now I see that is what you wanted to say. I did misread it.

William Amos on March 14, 2009 at 5:15 PM

Just like the you and the Liberal Democratic Left for the past eight years, especially in time of war……..

………. how does it feel?

By the way, Conservatives never said we wanted Mr. Teleprompter to fail, it is his Marxist/Socialist policies we want to fail…….

……… you just hated President Bush, because that is what the Media, Hollywood, your Liberal Professors, and George Soros told you to think.

“Hate………. Hate………. Hate………. Hate………. Hate………. Hate……… Hate……… Hate………. Hate………. Hate…….”

(Imagine leather boots and goose stepping)

……………. Sound familiar?

(If) Bin Laden (is) still alive…Barack Hussein Obama is our country’s greatest threat.
