Video: Shepard Smith goofs on Glenn Beck

Good-natured ribbing — or is it? The segment ends cordially enough, with the two sharing a laugh, but Shep’s never had much patience for right-wing alarmism and Beck, after all, is the current gold standard in it. Is there more to this needling than meets the eye? I’m intrigued that even Wallace feels compelled to call him out.
To Beck’s credit, at least he’s got a sense of humor about it. Click the image to watch.

Damn, he wears more makeup than my wife.

No, Shep hates Beck and everything he stands for.
I bet he is jealous of his ratings and newfound status, too.
Shep is a douchebag.

Its the switch to HD cameras. Scared the living hell out of anyone who works in front of a camera.

Every since Katrina, I don’t watch Shep. He gets on my nerves. Drama queen.

Shep has been acting like a douche ever since McCain wanted to postpone that debate at Ole Miss.

Years ago, Shep was tolerable enough, but he has grown increasingly intolerable in recent years. I also saw him have a meltdown when someone “accidentally” left a camera rolling instead of cutting immediately to a commercial break. Everyone has meltdowns but his was especially vicious and condescending.
haikusrock on March 13, 2009 at 7:22 PM
I heard Beck was crying again on today’s show. No joke.
Our next Hot Air poll: When will GB finally have a breakdown on the air?
Allahpundit on March 13, 2009 at 7:22 PM
I saw this today. Shep made a fool of himself. Glenn had some fun with him though.
CNN lost a huge asset with Glenn.
Guardian on March 13, 2009 at 7:23 PM
Shep has become a jerk. Shep is jealous that Beck has come to Fox News and blown his ratings out of the water.
I watched Glenn’s program and I enjoyed it a lot. It was nice to see that we are not alone.

messed me up when glenn came to fox, i watched him at 7pm instead of shep.

Now Glenn Beck, he da man!
He could singlehandedly save this network from turning itself into NBC,ABC,CBS,MSNBC,CNN or any of the other lefty alphabet, President Pinnochio Rump Ranger networks.

NY Conservative on March 13, 2009 at 7:27 PM
I don’t watch Shep anymore. He is far enough along at Fox he doesn’t have to worry about slugging the Fox line. I am not for that but he actually need look no further than Beck to figure out if you are inheriting viewers from the program before yours you need to know pi$$ing off those viewers gets people to tunr the station. Beck didn’t do as well at CNN because he was sandwiched in a liberal line-up. Shep would be better to not try and sandwich liberlaism into a Fox line-up.

Yeah man it was pretty bad. He wasn’t just getting teared up either.
V15J on March 13, 2009 at 7:27 PM
Yes, quite a bit, actually. Lots of long, uncomfortable pauses while he tried to regain even a modicum of composure. It was very uncomfortable to watch.
It was a bit pathetic, but he’s an okay guy overall.
PBoilermaker on March 13, 2009 at 7:27 PM
Yes he was but he was talking about the military when he was getting worked up. I get worked up when it comes to our military men and women. Maybe because I see it everyday. When people talk about our Military like Glenn does I get worked up too. It brings tears to my eyes what these men and women have been through and how people react to them. The story the soldier told about the man wanting to take his bags up to his room made me cry. I have a soft spot for our guys and gals that serve.
Brat4life on March 13, 2009 at 7:27 PM
I liked how pissy Wallace was got at Shep about his jealousy of Beck. Wallace clearly doesn’t like the cattiness displayed by the drama queen that Shepard is.
Can’t we have a natural disaster for Shepard to go to in order to get his ratings up? (Sometimes I think Shepard loves these disasters just to give him a reason to hook up with Anderson Cooper. They would have such pretty children.)

Everyone seems to like to make fun of Glenn Beck for crying. He even makes fun of himself for doing it, but at least he cares enough about this country and the direction it’s headed in to try and do something about it.
I wish more people were like Glenn Beck.

Even though Glen is releasing the tears every day, there remains a possibility that he curls up in the fetal position and doesn’t stop crying until the tear sack start seeping blood.

Beck’s hospital horror story was interesting.
I think that is when he lost it.

No, that he was channeling Tammy Faye Baker. :)
Yep, I watched on the bed, dvr’d it to make my husband sit down and watch it. Obviously as a chick he got to me…again. Want M&M’s every time I look at that face! It’s like subliminal now!
BTW, that server’s been down multiple times. Nice to see folks at Times Square united for something other than New Year’s Eve or Macy’s.

Great show today. Met up with about 200 people in Conroe, TX to watch it. Met a lot of nice people.
Weight of Glory on March 13, 2009 at 7:37 PM
I will tell you all here who think a man (Glenn) crying is not ‘a man’. My husband is a big man, twenty years in the Navy and in Nam, patriot guard rider, and he sheds a tear when he sees our Republic going under or a e-mail giving our military their due. I think it is the feelings one human being feels about all important to them or those around them. I think ‘MY man, is a MAN’.

Is Beck the one who, some months ago, was caring on and on about some relatively minor operation or procedure that he had and how he was in such terrible pain and the Doctors were practically trying to torture him to death? Or am I thinking of someone else?

Shep needs to find an overpass where he can scream at the camera: “Where’s the water? Where’s the help? Where’s the government? Where’s FEMA!?”
Over and over and over again . . . .
It’ll make him feel better.
Fatal on March 13, 2009 at 7:40 PM
With apologies to assclown’s assclowns, of course.
TugboatPhil on March 13, 2009 at 7:40 PM
Shep did much better standing on the bridge in New Orleans telling people how bad it was. Then the camera panned behind and traffic could be seen leaving the area on the elvated roadway.
Lies are far easier for lefties, than truth.

They’ve opened up a brave new world not the least of which is Shep’s over-applied mascara.

Lefties lie because they realize their true selves are repulsive.
viking01 on March 13, 2009 at 7:47 PM
Yes, he was. But he won’t “have a breakdown.” People usually have those from bottling UP their feelings.
I’ve been pretty alarmist myself, ever since I started researching Obama last summer. Reading his web sites. Understanding his plans.
To me, a person OUGHT to be alarmed about all that, and I didn’t need Beck (who didn’t even have a show until recently) to tell me that.
Alana on March 13, 2009 at 7:48 PM
Isn’t Shep the tabloid guy at Fox who cries his lil’ eyes out if the wind blows?
Beck is too emotional for me, but as the post here reminds us, at least he can laugh at himself.

Stephen M on March 13, 2009 at 7:53 PM
Shep is a bastard and knows it won’t be too long and Glenn will have his time slot on Fox News.
There is nothing wrong with a man being emotional about his country. Nor is there anything wrong about respecting the men and women who sacrifice their lives to keep us safe. I have been listening to him for years and I won’t stop.
Let me ask you…..would you give up your life for this country if you knew that it might save it from destruction?

I won’t watch Shep either. He is such a loose cannon and a major whiner. Can’t hold a candle to Glenn.
Glenn was excellent today. He cried. I cried. It was a very moving show. He’s right about where we are today as a country. Divided, lacking hope…angry at the establishment. We should turn back to 9/12 and rekindle feeling of purpose and connection we had to each other. It is a great idea! Why not?

He wasn’t crying through most of the show. Shame, because he had the author of Lone Survivor on and viewing parties across the country.

A wave of heat, and Glenn is near

He seems to like to cry, and probably always will

Um, I’m a real woman married to a military guy, and I don’t care for Glenn Beck. I’m not into fear-mongering, among other things.
And Beck is another guy who talks about how disgusting abortion is but he couldn’t find any reason to vote for McCain over Obama. Either he doesn’t really care much about abortion or he is a moron.
funky chicken on March 13, 2009 at 8:01 PM
Beck has some good ideas, then seems to go off the cliff. Too much like Oprah when he does.
Too many TV personalities are trying to be personalities after having been fake wax dolls for so long they lost what little they had. Now its all fake; they’re turning into Disney automatons.
Skandia Recluse on March 13, 2009 at 8:03 PM
Yes, part of it was after the opening that concentrated on 9/11. He launched the 9/12 project, supposedly memorializing the country coming together and concentrating on the important things after the attacks.
amerpundit on March 13, 2009 at 8:04 PM
Wow, I just watched some of the Beck show. Maybe he’s nuts, but you can’t doubt his sincerity. He seemed geniunely overwhelmed by the response, I think that’s what got him. I can’t say it’s something I want to watch a whole hour of, but I can’t criticize him for being grateful.
Jim Treacher on March 13, 2009 at 8:05 PM
WTF does this topic has got to do with Sarah Palin? Geesh, she is back home in Alaska, being Governor and taking care of business, and here we are still dragging her to a Glenn Beck/Shep thread?
People these days have GOT to come with more creative things to think about…I dunno, THE COUNTRY? Why in the world bring an ex-Presidential candidate into the arena, when there are many MEN panting for that in ‘12 right NOW???
I wasn’t born here in the mainland, but I am slowly getting reacquainted with this country. Love it like I was born here. Hate, absolutely hate what’s going on and that feeling of powerlessness (sp?) is what has us here today.
Unless the bloggers bring another “Sarah Palin” topic, keep it to yourself, buddy.

Glenn is in touch with his emotional side.
He is a great guy, and has a great show. He can be a bit loony sometimes, but good fun overall.
BTW, Sarah Palin fans went to Beck and made him get those monster ratings. He has been a huge supporter of hers and he was smart enough to have her on his first episode.

It is funny seeing a guy cry on live TV. But the two guys who I have seen do it over the years are Beck and Bush Sr. Both love their country immensely and get choked up. I have to admit that when I watch 9/11 footage, I lose it. So I can appreciate the feelings they have.
As far as Shep, I don’t watch his report but find his reporting fair. That’s all I ask for.

Now that’s funny, I don’t care who you are!
Although, if he was talking about our troops, I’ll admit that is one of two things (the other being my kids) that will bring a tear to my eyes.
Give you an example, walking through Publix (grocery store chain here in Florida), my 4-year old (at the time) daughter saw a colonel, in combat fatigues, picking out a dinner from the frozen foods section. She walks over to him and says very clearly, “Thank you for protecting us with your life”. At first the officer seemed stunned, as if he thought someone were playing a joke on him, but when she smiled up at him, he said, “Sweet little girls like you make it all worth it, honey.”
I got teary eyed in a flash…just writing this its making me choke up. Daddy was so proud.
