The lame anti-Rush billboard — and a response

posted at 5:45 pm on March 12, 2009 by Ed Morrissey

The Democratic Party has to do something to distract people from the parade of flopped nominations in the Barack Obama administration, the botched diplomacy of Hillary Clinton, the Wall Street meltdown, and the insane spending spree of the Democratic-controlled Congress.  Rather than have people actually pay attention to what Democrats do, the party has decided to hold an anti-Rush Limbaugh contest — to gin up a slogan for a billboard near the Excellence in Broadcasting studios in Florida.  My friend Tommy Christopher reports that they’ve picked a winner:

The winning slogan, submitted by William C. of Camden, New Jersey, will let Rush — and the Republicans who’ve decided to follow his lead –  know that Americans aren’t hoping for failure.  They voted for a new direction in November, and they’re ready to leave behind the failed partisan attack politics of the past.

Um, say, like holding slogan contests to belittle conservatives?  I know that consistency isn’t a strong point with Democrats, but didn’t anyone read this for comprehension before sending it out?

Apparently they were too busy picking a slogan.  And here it is, the message that they believe will send Rush Limbaugh screaming into oblivion:

What, “Don’t play Rush-ian Roulette” didn’t come up?  Did they miss “nanny nanny boo boo” too?  The collective genius of Democrats gets put together and this is what they’ve managed to come up with?  I guess that explains Porkulus and their decision to raise taxes during a severe economic crisis, too.

Now, Rush Limbaugh certainly needs no assistance in defending himself, particularly when the opposition is as intellectually disarmed as Democrats show themselves to be here.  However, inspired by Jonah Goldberg at The Corner, I’ve come up with a companion billboard (with my limited Photoshop skills) to place just a little down the road from this one, when it appears:

Feel free to pass this around.

Update: Color the Christian Science Monitor less than impressed:

Setting a world record today for beating a dead horse, the Democratic National Committee will announce they’ve selected an anti-Rush Limbaugh slogan to be placed on a billboard in the radio host’s hometown. …

That message has apparently been decided. CNN is reporting that the billboard will say, “Americans didn’t vote for a Rush to failure.”

Apparently, more than 80,000 slogans were emailed in and astonishingly all were somehow deemed worse than that one.

Update II: Caleb Howe discovers the super-secret transcript of the Democrats’ meeting on the slogan.

Update III: HA reader Paul C, known as Loudtalker at RFC Radio, sends a better photoshop of the same idea:

Very cool, Paul!

Because, I think it actually takes a stab at Obama.

I’m sorry, but their slogan makes no sense to me.

carbon_footprint on March 12, 2009 at 5:50 PM

Wow, that’s pathetic.

They just replace this sad attempt with a billboard featuring a picture of getalife in a bikini, accompanied by the words “Bush Depression!”.

They voted for a new direction in November, and they’re ready to leave behind the failed partisan attack politics of the past.

And, we’ll help leave behind the failed partisan attack strategies by starting a partisan attack strategy via billboard.

I’ve come up with a companion billboard (with my limited Photoshop skills) to place just a little down the road from this one, when it appears:

Standing “O” and I don’t mean Obama.

I don’t understand the filthy liar’s pathological hatred of a talk show host but it definitely is the cornerstone of an agenda that has yet to address the economy, foreign affairs, or any other matter of import.

highhopes on March 12, 2009 at 5:53 PM

I apologize that this slogan came from the the brain of a fellow resident of my home state.

The Camden area has its problems and if the winner is the product of the public education system there, then that’s just another example of the failure of our public schools. Especially in a blue state like NJ where millions of dollars are sent from the more affluent communities to the less affluent areas.

Knee slapper, yes? if it wasn’t so true.

mdetlh on March 12, 2009 at 5:54 PM

I can’t decide if the DNC billboard is taking a slap at Barry, or is just an advertisment for Rush. Because those themes can be seen as well.

Only partially true. Something like 52% of the American electorate did exactly that. It was the rest of us that didn’t (but, as Ed points out, we’re getting it anyway).

I’d throw in a dime or two and have Ed’s billboard put up down the road.

They’re kids that just keep pushing until somebody calls their bluff.

In light of the flak over the HOPE posters (over copyright infringement), I hope someone is pouring over photos of Rush to ensure that the image they used isn’t derived from a photo protected by copyright.

It sure would be a shame if they had to take it down.

But when Democrats have big majorities of Congress and a president who came to office promising a whole new kind of politics, they too look pathetic for resorting to petty attack politics against someone who isn’t even a politician.
