Stupid is as stupid does

posted at 8:15 am on March 12, 2009 by Ed Morrissey

What does a night of insomnia offer?  A chance to watch the worst on television in the vain hope that it puts you to sleep.  Unfortunately, even HBO has its commercials (for itself), and one kept repeating all night long.  Apparently, Will Farrell has a one-man stage show that HBO will air live on Saturday, which gasses on and on about how stupid George Bush is:

Ferrell, who poked fun at the president with his successful impersonations on “SNL,” told CNN he likes that Bush “never thinks he’s wrong.”

“He’s arrogant with a school-boy attitude, and combine that with the fact that he is commander in chief — and, unfortunately, it’s very funny.”

Wow, how original!  Another entertainment-industry portrayal of George Bush as stupid.  Perfect timing, too, as someone has to come up with a DVD that Barack Obama can offer Gordon Brown on his next visit to the US.

Will Farrell, Will Farrell … say, isn’t he the guy who did Stepbrothers, Superstar, Bewitched, Blades of Glory, Anchorman, and Elf?

A guy with a career like that is making fun of someone else’s intellect?

Fail.

Update: Kim Priestap says that the show has Bush exposing his penis at one point.  Well, that’s about the intellectual level of Farrell’s entire ouevre.  Only the arrested adolescents in HBO’s audience will find that entertaining — in other words, the same people that watch Bill Maher.

Blowback

I understand a big penis comes out onto the screen sometime near the end of the show. They have had some audience problems with that.

I am not kidding.

Some more facts:

1. Bush released his Yale and Harvard transcripts, Obama did not. What is he hiding? You’d think Mr. Super Smart would be more than willing to show off his 4.0 GPA right?

2. Bush’s grades at Yale were better than John Kerry, another super duper smart Democrat.

3. Bush to my knowledge never used a teleprompter to introduce a member of his cabinet. Obama has yet to deliver a speech without a teleprompter.

4. When asked about a P/E ratio, Obama talked about the “profits and earnings” ratio. A ratio that does not exist.

5. Obama said that he visited 57 states.

This is exactly why Hollywood and that entire industry is now viewed by millions of Americans in a very negative vibe. Clinton was a GOD to these people, while Reagan was the devil. No. 1, that’s like saying WWII started under Churchill’s watch, so it’s his fault. The FACT that the CRA was forced onto banks by impeached president clinton, is one of the major causes of the financial meltdown.

No. 2, Of course the war was fought poorly. We lost hundreds of thousands in other wars. I suspect libs like you think you can fight a war that no one gets killed. Oh wait, libs don’t like wars. You’re probably right, we need Saddam back and the torturing and raping of his own people. Only non-thinking people like you can see moral equivalence between brutal murdering dictators, and trying to liberate a country from tyrannical rule. Fortunately, there are men and women far better than you who went into harms way, to make someone else’s life better.

As President, there are only so many times that you can admit that you screwed up before people get fed up with it. Obama has admitted it once with Daschle, but he certainly has screwed up many more times. So I guess he is the arrogant schoolboy now. I’m not holding my breath waiting for SNL to do a skit on Obama giving the PM of England a DVD box set that included ET and Star Wars. I bet it was the Star Wars version where Han shoots second, because shooting first is wrong.

This guy, like most everyone else who was ever in the cast of SNL, has a very repetitive schtick. It was funny the first time back in 1996 or so, but it’s pretty tired now. Every movie character he’s ever played has been the same guy. Sad that a no-talent asshat like ferrell can’t do anything original, but that makes him just like all the other SNL movie “actors” from Chase through Fey — all basically one trick ponies (possible exception of Sandler – he started on this track, but has at least tried to expand his characters in recent films).

AnotherRightWingConspirator on March 12, 2009 at 8:40 AM

(Holdovers like Gates don’t count as “new hopey change” nominations.)(God, that’s unfair, isn’t it?)(LIFE isn’t fair, Princess!)

I would disagree with some, Ferrell is not so funny.

BDS, I am getting pretty tired of it. I happen to have been in Iraq for 14 months, I would argue that the blunder was not having gone earlier. I just retired with over 30 years, been there, done that. But for the rest of my days, the pictures and feelings I have for the poor people south of Baghdad will always remain. Especially the children.

As for the current financial issues, nice343 should try reading the CRA of 1994. Course that would require honesty, something the liberals avoid at ALL Costs.

After the Rush brouhaha of the last few weeks, I’m moving to the Jeff Goldstein way of thought. No more trying to accommodate. No more trying to see both sides of the issue. I/We know they are wrong and arrogant, no since being nice to that anymore.

News Flash to lefties: When the US collapses/falls, liberals will be the only ones getting the blame because it happened on their watch. Bingo, struck payday and has millions in the bank as a result. Most likely, these people will see the day when they wish they could have inner peace rather than all that money. If he really believes that about Bush, & if he loves the USA, he’d think it was very sad or infuriating, but I guess he doesn’t love his country, so it’s funny.

facts you cannot deny

1. This Financial crisis started under Bush’s watch
2. Iraq war was a blunder

Looks like Chris Matthews has got himself a Hot Air account to voice his simplistic arguments.

Did Will think that Barry giving the side-of-nose middle finger to Hillary was a bit school boy?

Or is it that Democrats automatically, but virtue of their little beliefs, are perfect?

He is an imbecile.

Funny in Wedding Crashers tho.

Ferrell is by far the least talented, least funny guy to make it big off of SNL. It’s not even close.

The only thing he has going for him is that he’s not nearly as irritating as Jim Carey became (although he came from Second City, but he was every bit as overexposed).

Something for libs to chuckle at as the jackass they elected, does his daily bed crap on the national stage.

Dear Will F and the like:
1. George Bush isn’t President anymore.
2. Make a joke about Obama. here’s some suggestions: 57 states, Joe Biden, Breathalyzer, the stimulus package, “I won”, all of his failed appointees, Hillary Clinton
3. Do you blame FDR for WWII? After all that started on “his watch.”
4. Do you blame Lincoln for the Civil War?

Please keep your talking points up to date. As soon as you make a joke about Obama, I’ll listen to your tired and dated jokes about George Bush.
Kisses.

I’d like to see a skit where the “teleprompter king” does a back and forth so fast that his ears fall off.

Heard the fastest way to get fired in the Obama White House is when Obama walks into a meeting and says “I have this idea…” and a staffer answers, “I’m all ears.”

Now that is low. Even nice343′s comments are more thought out than Chrissy’s. I mean, they’re pretty bad… but Chrissy level? That’s badder than bad.

While I agree that the show will likely suck, describing Farrel’s career as a ‘fail’ sounds pretty desperate.

re: iraq was a blunder

I’m old school Marine Corps.. was in Vietnam but my son is in Iraq now….. I’d be hard pressed from refraining to lay a knock down on the purveyor of such a comment…. but, I consider the source and venue….. cerebral acuity is a non factor on that puke.

Firstly, Jim Belushi is the least talented former SNL dude to make it big. I was unaware there was a debate about that.

Jim Carrey didn’t do sketch comedy until “In Living Color”. He was never a part of Second City, as far as I’m aware. On top of that, Jim can actually act.

Loved Ancorman. I worked with people from that era of Television.
